    What a great video produced by an incredible family. Nate you and Abby are wonderful people spreading wonderful personal characteristics. The RC part is just icing on the cake. Watching and listening to you fly this plane was a total enjoyment. The plane is beautiful and flies great. Just curious as to your opinion about flying it on 3S? Thanks for all you do and give to the RC community. God bless you and your family.

    This looks like a really fun overall plane. Looks to handle many situations. Years ago I got a HawkSky and had a bunch of kevlar rods put in all thru it. I learned hot to fly with it. Crashed sooo many times. But a little hot glue and she’s been flying for 5 years now. Cut the tips off the wings off and she is really fast. Lot of battle scars, and it still flies great! So sometimes simple is good !!! Good videos ! Thx 👍

    I just want to throw this out there because it happened to me with my Commander. I have been flying on some pretty hot days and I noticed that the canopy would sometimes not come off without virtually crushing the canopy to get a good grip on it. I found out later that there was some excess glue from manufacturing on both the underside of the fuse where the canopy tab touches and somewhere in the back magnetic section as well. I really could not see anything but it seemed like the canopy just got welded on from the heat of the sun. What I did to fix this was put a strip of the fuzzy Velcro on the front lip of the canopy and trimmed the fuzzy stuff down as much as possible with an electric shaver :). Then on the back part of the canopy, I attached a thin clear plastic strip of plastic that can be used as handles to pull the canopy off if it gets stuck again. The plastic tabs are bent down to fit perfectly against the fuse and it works perfectly now. No more welded on canopy in the blazing heat. The plane gives you this locked in feeling and immediately makes you feel comfortable with it. I agree with your 2022 choice Nate and I see you're having lot's of fun with it. I wish they had a balsa version of this plane, I would buy it in a heart beat. Only thing I don't like is the hanger rash that foam always seems to get. I already have dings on the wing tips and only have about 35 flights on it so far.

    • @cg5469
      @cg5469 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of people now have (or is included) a small, thick canopy tab of clear or color plastic you use to pull the canopy off. Other than what you mentioned, canopy tabs will not "crush" the canopy however, must be securely fit

    • @michaelkrailo5725
      @michaelkrailo5725 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cg5469 Mine fell off a long time ago and I haven't had a problem after I carefully removed all the excess clear glue that I believe was the root cause of the canopy sticking on hot days. I just broke another prop on a simple nose over in higher grass on take-off. Man I hate when that happens.

    This is one of my two favorite planes along with the Eflite Valiant. It can be an easy flyer or quite aerobatic, landing is not hard. I really like the plug ins for the wing servo connections. I drive a compact sedan and being able to take the wings off for transportation and being able to easily put it together at the field is a real plus, well worth the few extra bucks. Wish all planes of 1200mm wingspan have this feature.

    The more I fly this one the more I like it. The Commander is an all-round flyer. I can putz it around in the pattern or pour on the coals for some action. It does it all. I only fly it on 4S and learning my knife edges with this one. As far as grass ops go, our field is all grass and if it gets a little tall, the Commander has had some issues with nose overs. I swapped out the wheel pants for a pair of 3.5" Dave Brown wheels. No more issues. What I lost in classic looks I increased in flexibility of taxiing surfaces. It rolls straight and true on a hard deck. Oh well, my plane my choice. I'm not a huge fan of the color scheme as it can get lost in the background of sky and clouds but the livery makes it look like a Reno Racer. IF I had to choose one plane from my hanger to take to a fun fly event, this would be my choice. Sorry Valiant 😞
    Happy Landings!

    • @themeach011
      @themeach011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also don't use the flaps when taking off as it will make it more prone to nosing over. And full up elevator until u get moving and then ease off the elevator once you're freely rolling. With enough elevator to keep the tail down pretty much any plane can fly off grass if it's not too deep

    • @michaelkrailo5725
      @michaelkrailo5725 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I fly off shorter cut grass no problem. I also ditched the wheel pants since I fly mostly off grass. I use half flaps no problem on take off. I also carry an electric weed eater with me just in case I need to touch up the grass strip a little. It doesn't take much to clean it up and I'm off and flying.

      It'll fly fine. A bit less power and if u pin it the whole time your battery will probably puff but it will fly on that for sure. I fly my ultimate on both 3 and 4 and the only real difference is just the raw power of the 4s. It's nice to have but not necessary at all.

      @@TheFrenchPug I'm not totally certain on that. I see guys using the puffed ones. There most likely is some elevated risk of rupture. If you don't push the battery too hard it shouldn't puff. • @michaelkrailo5725
      @michaelkrailo5725 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It completely depends on the type and height of the grass. This is not a bush plane so the grass has to be fairly short but there is definitely a limit on the height of grass. I took this to a local park and at first and i could not get it off the deck due to constant nose overs. And yes, I know how to hold in the full up elevator and it didn't matter. So all I did was scout around for a thinner section of grass and it took off without a problem. If you do touch and goes on grass, just be aware that it will tend to nose down into the thicker grass but due to the momentum it just keeps going just fine. This is just my experience with it. I pretty much only fly off grass with it and removed the wheel pants right away to avoid problems there. It is one of the best planes I've had the pleasure of flying without worrying about tip stalls or and any bad tendencies and yet still fly all the IMAC maneuvers with ease after it has been balanced and trimmed well. I ended up using a Rudder to Elevator mix to get rid of some pitch coupling that it had and that was it. There was no roll coupling on mine and it flies extremely well even with the stock settings. So I have to completely agree with Nate on this one. I've been flying on and off for 46 years so this ain't my first rodeo.

    • @michaelkrailo5725
      @michaelkrailo5725 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does require adequate room to fly it for sure. Even more importantly, it needs a lot of distance on the approach into landing since it just keeps gliding. You would have to use the flaps extremely well and be good at flying shorter approaches. I'm pretty good at this and still found it tough to shorten up the approach on this one. It can be done, but it took me a lot more practice to slow it down enough to do shorter approaches. Normally a plane goes from level to flare fairly quickly, but this one just keeps gliding straight and level for a lot longer than most planes. The good news is this baby doesn't stall easily on the turn into final. Don't be afraid to slow it down.

      Nx8 is what I got. Seems like it should work well for all but the most intense aircraft out there.

      I'm using the NX6 and probably should have gone for the NX8 but to be honest, the NX6 is going to work on most of the stuff I fly anyways. The main reason for getting the NX8 or NX10 is so you can use special configurations like 2 Aileron plus 2 Flap setups. If the plane has retracts or other special functions then you will wish you at least had the NX8. With my NX6 I can still have 1 Aileron, 2 Flap, Reverse thrust, Throttle, Elevator, and Rudder. That looks like seven channels but the NX6 gives you that seventh channel for things like reverse thrust or retractable gear as a bonus. It just isn't a proportional channel like the other six channels. I don't own anything that needs more than the seven channels.

    Great rc plane shame about the colour Man City fc colour's. I'm Manchester United fan red and white. Plus the pilot in the plane is half cut. Great video as always 👍 Nate and Abby,!!¡
