I agree with you but as a beginner myself I like to start with a rtf and I'm planning on building planes but the problem is that alot of kits or building your own plane can get really expensive
Thank you for your comments. I am "old" in my club, but only flying for about 9 years. I still fly high wing planes because that is my skill level. Just have fun.
Some folk are more pilots than makers. I enjoy both. I started with foamies, and continue to buy and fly them, but I’ve spent a lot of time repairing and strengthening after crashes.😅 I do see how balsa just “flies better”. I had to get my pilot skills up before going to balsa though…. They don’t repair as easily as foam. 😁
My first powered RC plane was a glow powered SiG Kadet Sr. Big, beautiful and loud. Now I have built several dozen Foamie kits and flown lots of Store-bought planes like the MPD Commander and I don’t miss the Kadet.
One big advantage of Eflite planes is that they come with SAFE. I don’t take off or fly with it, but it has saved me from many crashes. It can be useful for landings as well.
@@kyledupont7711 inexperienced pilots may not benefit from gyros. Newbies usually fly in near calm conditions, and have an over control problem, which can be helped with SAFE.

As a kid, I really liked driving Tamiya RC cars and trucks. When I started flying, I kind of stopped driving. That changed briefly when I got an Arrma Granite. Now I'm into EDF's so the trucks stay on the shelf.
Nate and Abbie, I want to thank you both for all you do for us and the hobby. I love to watch your reviews and do take your word on your recommendations. It has been quite awhile back but I purchased a quad from one of your video's and the quad is spot on with your recommendation. It is the SG906 Pro. Thanks guys !
I love this list! I have several of these. One note: I put Tundra tires on my Red MPd Commander, uprated the esc to 60amps and now I can fly 4S 3300 batteries in it. Definitely my favorite jack of all trades planes.
The TTE I wholly recommend as a first plane . I have taught 3 first time pilots with mine and then they bought one. I set up the transmitter for them with the slats and alot of expo and as they got more comfortable we took the slates off and put less expo with higher throws. I love the TTE it comes with me to the field everytime.
Nate I bought a Commander after watching your earlier flights when you first got it. I have just about flown the wings off mine. Everyone at the two clubs I am a member at have often commented at just how well it flies. At $625.00 Australian It is a bit pricey for my budget but You really get what you pay for and it seems to get a ride in the back of my car more often than any of the other planes in my workshop.
Man, I’m so sorry that you had to pay that to own one. But I’m also really happy to know that you trusted me enough to pay that for the experience! Your follow up means a lot to me, so Thank You for taking the time! Love that you love it 👍😁😎⚓️
Nate, I don't know if you teach or not but with your skills and great attitude your students would learn very quickly. that's my opinion!!! Hi Abby. Ralphie
Great lineup!👍🏽I'm surprised the umx timber x wasn't on here its a great beginner plane that has decent aerobatics I also think the arrows pioneer is great I love flying it however I had to mod it to get the roll rate that I wanted and now it's 100% better✌🏽
I have the Red MpD Commander on 4S with Tundra Tires. Hard to beat. I have upgraded the esc to 60 amps and it handles a 4S 3200. Just remember, roll-out, don't "pull" out.
If you don't mind doing a video (if you haven't yet)showing doing the repairs on one of the major crashes, just a suggestion but could be fun (build, fly, CRASH, rebuild, fly again) grin
Both E-Flite Maule M7 and RV-7 should be considered as well as the Durafly Gloster Gladiator. Fantastic planes all three of them. They are just as good as the planes mentioned in this video. But for a beginner go for the Eachine/Volantex mini warbirds!
I so enjoy your videos, love the excited banter between you two. You're going to have a very happy baby, that's for sure! And I haven't even mentioned the fantastic flying yet! (that was some crash at the end, glad you managed to fix it. A few scars but hey!)
Nate, great list. I have the Husky (Special Edition) and after swapping out the power system for a true 6s set up, and cannot agree with you more. I am surprised that you covered almost all arenas except EDF's. If you haven't had to opportunity, grab an Avanti High Performance. That will get your heart going, and you'll be surprised at how controllable it is. Just take can on those landings, it can "bronco" on you if you don't land 3 point. Thanks for another great video. Cheers!
with a grass runway airfield, my fav is by far the UMX Timber X. I can land it, take it off, practice my touch and go's. It is forgiving, and will fly as tame or as wild as I want. And under 200 it is a great value. The Vulcan 70mm High performance edf. Great value at under 300, fast, and easy to fly. Under 1k, my fav is the Freewing F22 High performance 8s. Great flyer, great flight characteristics, and so versatile. Also, Blade 480 Ultimate kit, is my favorite helicopter.
@@Rcdude2007 i dont have all the parts, i have the main wing but like, half of it is stuck in a tree somewhere in kansas cuz it broke there and i dont livfe there anymore
Slats or no slats on Timber Evolution as rookie Grandpa graduates from Aero scout-- still on SAFE-- landing. Can you glue on and remove slats if you want ? Thanks
The slats are put on with double sided tape, not easy to remove and replace again unless you replace the tape. The slats look cool, and slow the plane slightly more, but they are delicate and prone to damage due to hanger rash.
The best rc planes for my wallet, are balsa planes bought from people who stopped with the hobby. For about 100 euro (100 dollar) you can buy a really good plane.
Thanks for the tips. I agree with the Turbo Timber Evolution which is a plane that i have been looking at now for quite some time. Regarding the Arrows Husky however, it looked interesting to me also as an alternative for the Timber. But if you look at how the wing has to be connected then the Turbo Timber is much easier. So the Husky would only be an alternative if you could transport it without taking the wings of in my opinion. What do you think ?
Another poster mentioned Flex Innovations, which I second. Their RV8-10 is a fantastic 3D plane that is very light, acrobatics and fast, running 6S power. Think of it like a somewhat larger E Flight RV7 that has been on steroids (I also own and enjoy the E Flight RV7 and have been flying the E flight Erratix, which is a blast, but is a little fragile due to its paper/foam sandwich construction vs. the traditional Foamie 3D planes like the kits from Twisted Hobbies ). Please consider connecting with Flex and other manufacturers (PA or Extreme Flight, for premium planes that require more building skills but are really rewarding) to expand your reviews in the new year. Thanks for all your and Abby’s positive energy and my best wishes for the birth of the newest member of your crew!
The Flex Innovations RV8 is one of the best. But as you can see, mostly E-flite is on the list cause that's what they are tasked to sell. And 2023 just started, so we don't even know what planes might come this year.
Great pics you guys. I would pick the husky number one. Nate, you had the most fun with this plane. And it has lights. Big selling for me. Hey, eflite, put lites on your planes. Tell them nate. Makes a way better plane. You know that.
Haha, sorry! Video coming fairly soon, explaining .. or Showing rather why and how it got so muddy!! I’ve got a huge decision to make… clean and fix? Or sell and buy a new one 😬😂😅⚓️
I AGREE with everything you said!! GREAT CHOICES!! Has FMS added the WHITE DOT to the Pitts nose cone?! They should, it LOOKS better!! Thanks Saylors for sharing your thoughts!! 💟👍😘
Good list. I got my Husky Special Edition a couple years ago when you first reviewed it, and its still in mint condition. The 6S Ultimate is even better, but my Husky refuses to crash so I can replace it. It was a good year for Eflite, even if they did mostly V2 old models, but they chose good ones. If I were limited to only one company it would be them.
I've been hoping you review either the Arrows MiG-29 or the F-15 Eagle. Either model is on my must have list, but can't decide which one to get. Looks department I'm drooling over the MiG rather than the Eagle.
Nate I don't know. Good list but on #1, I have to disagree I have flown the Commander and just felt that the Cirrus SR22T is just slightly better. Now on that Commander I do have to say this if it was balsa it would have been done. I have both foam and balsa and have had crashes with both and most of the time the balsa ones I just couldn't put them back together. But I do feel balsa flies better. Anyway nice to see ya both and Abby when are you due. It is time girl. God Bless you both.
10:18 Fret not Abby, it wasn't your fault at all. Not even a teeny tiny bit. Nate was flying. His hands were on the controls. He was the pilot in command. The fact that he zigged when he should have zagged and sent his favorite plane nose-first into the runway was his responsibility, and his alone. Sorry Nate, no disrespect intended. Besides, you repaired that one and were able to get a second one too. It turned out very well. Don't blame Abby (even partially), thank her. Cheers!
Hey, love your channel...I'm currently new and flying the aeroscout 2.1m foam plan, but looking for another beginner foam plane to fly..any suggestions? Thanks..colin
Thanks! Are you looking for PURELY beginner focussed? Or something you can grow into a bit more? Would you like it to fly on the same batteries you are using now? And finally, do you want something bound to a radio again, or are you ready to take the next step and purchase a universal radio? Happy to help! 👍😁😎⚓️
I really liked my commander. I’m a new pilot and I flew it very well until a servo mishap took it out. The only reason I have not bought another is because of how the wings attach.
My most recent fixed-wing acquisition is the new UMX Twin Otter. Haven't had a chance to get it in the air yet. I also have the UMX Pitts, but it has always had a telemetry issue where it screams at me from the moment it connects that the 'smart' battery is low (not charged for flight). It reports the 2S battery at 8.1V and the 3S at 11.1V. I guess maybe I should have addressed this with HH back when I bought it. :)
just wondering , how can you rate the top 5 best airplanes of 2023 when 2023 just started? There may be new rc planes comimg in 2023 that you have no knowledge about.
So I usually hate when people release list videos like this at the beginning of the year too, which is why we usually release our “top” videos in December! However we actually did record this video in December, but my pregnant wife got pretty sick. She’s had strep throat, the flu, and even a bladder infection all in one month! And now somewhat of a tooth problem. This put a pretty big delay on our editing and especially recording schedule, as health must come first! These videos take a lot more time and effort to do than a usual flight video for example, so here we are. I hope you can relate and understand the situation that we’ve been dealing with. Have a great day! 👍😁⚓️
Hay Nate and Abby, congratulations & God bless on the expected arrival of your next child & I don't know for sure rather or not maybe the baby has already been born since you made this video. Nate, I've seen you in a couple of your videos flying the fairly new E-Flite Spectrum Draco, a model aircraft designed and patterned after Mike Patey's full size Draco. I like the looks & handling of that E-Flite model aircraft with that large 2.0m wing span well enough that I'm ordering one myself. I know that Mike had that terrible accident in it where he totaled the aircraft, but praise the Lord, neither he, his wife Chandra or the third passenger were injured or killed! I can't wait to see his next Draco X that he is preparing to build and I'm hoping that E-Flite Spectrum will contract with him to build that version as well!
I like flying foam planes ✈️ myself doesn’t break has easy if you crash it I only have two planes myself both are foam planes to I fly drones more and good to see Popeye again to 😊😊😊😊⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️
I am so happy about this video! I have been waiting to get the Arrows Husky for awhile, and to here that it is in your top three planes, it is great to here. But should I get the Husky Ultimate, or the Normal one?
I've got the Evo and love it. I'd like to get the Biplane but I don't have a place to put it. Hmm... I can get the umx version I suppose lol great idea!!
Hey Jerry! So we actually recorded this in 2022, and planned on releasing this video a couple weeks before Christmas or so. However Abby caught strep throat, got the flu, and even had a bladder infection basically all of December while being super pregnant! It was awful. As you might be able to imagine, these videos take a lot of effort to edit, of which we do! So this video sadly got delayed. Here’s the cool news: this list still applies to every day of this year so far! These planes on our list didn’t have to come out in 2022, or even 2023.. they were just the best of this category in our opinions! Thanks for watching! 👍😎⚓️
I know this is an old video but im just seeing this and i have to laugh because in my day we all flew gas engine planes and built them from balsa wood. Im going to get back into flying only about 50 years later. Going to have to give this battery powered planes a try.
@joeys5429 hello what did you mean when you mentioned the Canadian ultimate? Are you thinking the Ultimate 3D or is there another Ultimate that I don't know about thank you 😊 your friend Marty from Canada 🇨🇦 🛩 🛩
One question do you have to register the RC planes like we have to register quadcopters , and have your registration numbers on the RC plane, and when remote ID come in, will all your RC planes have to install it, and do you have to take the FAA exam to fly RC planes. I have really been turned off to RC flying because of all the new regulations these days. I love the airplane videos you have but they are not hobby things anymore when you have to register with the federal government to just have some fun in your own field out back the house.
Reach out to the AMA regarding these questions. If you feel that they’ve been able to help you, click our link and sign up for a year! I can tell you that most of the things you are worried about is fear mongering click bait created by “content creators” for views “ie $$$” as fear is a cheap/ easy way to keep people hooked. A lot of information posted from third party people is super inaccurate, so please bear that in mind. I hope this helps! It’s a fun hobby, enjoy it! Remember too, if it were really about safety, we’d all have speed governors on our vehicles with GPS technology. We’d never be allowed to drive over the speed limit. Problem solved. ⚓️
My first one was a warbirb f4f from Parkzone. I still have it with some bruises but the is now more than 10y old. I will buy a new motor and fly it again
Hey Nate, I know you vaguely answered it with "best 6 cell plane" but you prefer the Arrows Husky over the Carbon Z cub? I am currently contemplating a large top wing airframe. Thanks
It depends what you want to do. I have the Carbon Cub 2.1 and I have flown the Husky Ultimate. IMO the Husky can do more. In terms of really wild maneuvers ( Harriers, Snap Rolls and my favorite Flat spins) the Husky Ultimate outperforms the Carbon Cub. I have done the same thing on my Carbon Cub and have ripped out the elevator nylon hinges twice so I put dubro hinges on the elevator and rudder put a slightly bigger motor and slightly smaller prop and now she screams. The Husky ultimate came out because pilots reported back with the same issues and the factory listened and built the rudder and elevator with stronger hinges. But it all depends what you want to do. I have lots of fun with my Carbon Cub I can go nuts with it or just loaf around and do some really nice touch and go's or if it's a little windy I can literally kite her all day on almost no throttle.
I haven’t had an RC airplane in the air since crashed my Kraft reed radio so bad it was not repairable. Since all technological improvements, I have “the bug”, again. would you please recommend a plane for me to get back in the air, with the caveat that I live in a part of south Texas with consistent 15-20 mph straight line winds, daily! Needless to say, my concern is acquiring a plane to handle this wind, and keep the price “reasonable”. Any help will be appreciated!
Good advice! This is our favorite planes list, but not necessarily for beginners 😁 We have a video specifically for first time or new flyers 👍😎 You are right though, for sure! Thanks for watching! ⚓️
I’m not sure if you have one but I just saw a rc vtol it was really cool if you have one can you do a new video or please get one and do a review pretty please lol. Love the videos thank you
I own both pitts, they are both excellent. great choices. I also have the 850 pitts and it is my favorite of the group. A stronger structure. the 1400mm has landing gear issues and I fly from grass. I wish there was an upgrade to the 1400 pants structure.
What!? You both are saying the 850 is where it’s at… apparently I’m missing out! I’ll have to see if we’ve got enough diaper money set aside for the month for me to pick one up 😅😁 I probably have enough points on Horizon to make a good dent anyways! 👍😎⚓️
You really need to pick up both, honestly. They are both so great, but so different from each other they don’t even compare. I promise you’ll be happy you ended up getting both 👍😁 But if I could only fly one, and those were my only two choices in the world, I’d get the Radiolink just because it’s more versatile. Now, remember we have the Eratix on our list too! These style of airplanes are just insanely fun! Also please co sided using our link when you buy yours, and let us know which route you went with! Fun guaranteed either way 👍😎⚓️
The Eratix is already an amazing front yard sized flyer. I highly doubt it, but I can say these are selling like hot cakes!! If you don’t own one, you’ve gotta eventually plan on getting one. Until then, go A560, UMX Pitts, and then the Eratix. Now THAT will be a great year of flying!!
Durafly is HobbyKing and they have really fallen off the face of the earth as even a remotely viable company right now. I’d steer clear of anything HobbyKing for a while as they’ve got a TON of problems. 💯⚓️

I love my Eratix ! It's so cool to be able to putz around then pull into a also most endless vertical.
Gas burner, 59-60 inch Wing Span, ARF's. Got 2, both with .46 sized engines. 10x6 props ,6 channel Radio Gear. Both planes I found on sale. $79 - 100.
Both E-Flite Maule M7 and RV-7 should be considered as well as the Durafly Gloster Gladiator. Fantastic planes all three of them. They are just as good as the planes mentioned in this video. But for a beginner go for the Eachine/Volantex mini warbirds!
I have a mini Volantex f4u crossair and it's the best for starters because I've banged it over 50 times.
Congrats onthe baby. Mozoltov 🎉
Nate, the Commander is absolutely beautiful!!
10:16 i would also choose this ariplane!!!!!
Cool Guys and Abby , you are looking very radiant !!
Slow Ultra Stick is my favourite 🤷🏻♂️
E-Flite Apprentice S anyone? Really nice trainer and great for casual flying and basic aerobatics.
I have all three Pitts. Love them all.
Cheers!
You are right, the Commander is awesome.
with a grass runway airfield, my fav is by far the UMX Timber X.
I think I just ordered the UMX you referred to. Were you meaning the Timber X? I don't see a turbo version of their UMX Timber.
@@pondfisher9632 Yes the Timber X. Thank you for the correction. I edited my post.
The rage Rc p51 is probably one of my personal favorite planes. It’s cheap fast durible and over all just a fantastic warbird to fly!!!
i have the rage rc corsair v2, flys really nice, just recently broke the wing so imma get the mustang
@@aydenmumm3676 the mustang is my personal favorite
@@Rcdude2007 valid, i like the focke-wulf 190, but they dont make one i can crash and fly again after
@@aydenmumm3676 if i were you get some foam glue and fix it that way thats what i do on my planes
@@Rcdude2007 i dont have all the parts, i have the main wing but like, half of it is stuck in a tree somewhere in kansas cuz it broke there and i dont livfe there anymore
Congratulations on the newest addition to your family 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Tooth picks and glue for the commander don’t forget to rebalance
The A1D Skyraider is my favorite plane in my fleet flys like its on rails happy easter guys
Awesome top 5 guys 👍🏻
Thanks Erric!! 👍😁😎⚓️
Like your picks ,, my next few are gona be byplanes in my fleet
I was actually thinking about charging my Ultimate 3D to fly today! Great minds think alike 👍😁😎⚓️
The best rc planes for my wallet, are balsa planes bought from people who stopped with the hobby. For about 100 euro (100 dollar) you can buy a really good plane.
Love it
Abby and Nate y'all rock! Love the channel and content! Peace
i love my P-51 Mustang from E-flite
👍 bring back BOAT WEEK!
Bring back Warm Weather and we will 👍😁😎⚓️
Low wings are always sliders the pits is not a novice the husky looks great to fly or number 4
That muddy Kraton is driving my OCD insane… lol
Haha, sorry! Video coming fairly soon, explaining .. or Showing rather why and how it got so muddy!! I’ve got a huge decision to make… clean and fix? Or sell and buy a new one 😬😂😅⚓️
I AGREE with everything you said!! GREAT CHOICES!! Has FMS added the WHITE DOT to the Pitts nose cone?! They should, it LOOKS better!! Thanks Saylors for sharing your thoughts!! 💟👍😘
Nice!
Woot! Dave, you got first!! 👍💯😁😎⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors Thanks! I really like your content. Just subscribed a couple of weeks ago. Keep up the good work:)
Just took a look, and they are both in stock! 😉🤔👍😁⚓️
Still love my FMS v1 Pits whit a stronger BL Motor Setup and prop
Nate I don't know. Good list but on #1, I have to disagree I have flown the Commander and just felt that the Cirrus SR22T is just slightly better. Now on that Commander I do have to say this if it was balsa it would have been done. I have both foam and balsa and have had crashes with both and most of the time the balsa ones I just couldn't put them back together. But I do feel balsa flies better. Anyway nice to see ya both and Abby when are you due. It is time girl. God Bless you both.
I really wanted one of these commando mpd but I cannot buy them in the UK ☹️
what about the UMX Ultrix? You sure seemed to get a kick out of that one.
Cheers!
NTSB: he zigged not Zagged write that down intern
NTSB intern: scribbles
I loveThe beechcraft D18
I just dont have room for anything larger than 1300m so how does the arrow bigfoot fair in this list?
Get the FMS 1300M cub its 10x better than the arrows big foot
Commander over the Cirrus? I'll have to look harder at the Commander. Cheers!!!
just wondering , how can you rate the top 5 best airplanes
of 2023 when 2023 just started? There may be new rc planes
comimg in 2023 that you have no knowledge about.
How about the all around, go to airplane called the RV-7.
Can we please get a video tour of your collection
I've got the Evo and love it. I'd like to get the Biplane but I don't have a place to put it. Hmm... I can get the umx version I suppose lol great idea!!
I would love to see you get into balsa planes and gas/nitro planes. I think you'd love them! Gives you a ton more options too I think
too noisy
Just a question. Can you say what the price is next time
My Favorit plain is a 2 full Carbon sail plane on a windy Day. Love to Play whit the Elements
15 days into Jan and 5 best plains.
Just picking
As i said. Just picking. Love your channel and your famly. Youve been adopted!
Oh haha! I thought you meant “just picking” random planes or something 😂😂 I got ya now!! 👍💯😅
I know this is an old video but im just seeing this and i have to laugh because in my day we all flew gas engine planes and built them from balsa wood. Im going to get back into flying only about 50 years later. Going to have to give this battery powered planes a try.
I wood get the Canadian ultimate over the pits
you can do as me and not comply.
I’ve never participated in R/C aircraft! But I’m so intrigued and scared to waste my money crashing… one of these days.
@@johnberrios4255 thanks John!
Flex Innovations has some very good planes.
When the wind is that strong, I pull out my FT Arrow flying wings. I built them for $60 each and they can handle all but a gale. Flite Test
I also fly 64mm EDF jets in strong winds; I recommend the F9f Panther from MotionRC. @@1212354a
Can you please do a precision aerobatics plane sometime in the future. I'm in aus and my favourite that I own is the fms su27 twin 70mm edf
When the new littleone comes you guys need to do a family pic for us .
Muchas felicitaciones por el bebé que están por tener que Dios los Bendiga y Proteja y le de mucha salud y bienestar
Would it be better for a first plane to get the Eflight apprentice rtf, eflight apprentice with an nx8 or a timber evolution with an nx8 no experience
The 850 is my favorite Pitts as well. It's a great size, easy to transport, and the performance is excellent.
What!? You both are saying the 850 is where it’s at… apparently I’m missing out! I’ll have to see if we’ve got enough diaper money set aside for the month for me to pick one up 😅😁 I probably have enough points on Horizon to make a good dent anyways! 👍😎⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors You about have me convinced on the commander, ty for all you do.
You guys ever tried 3d printed planes?

How close to the list is the Radiolink a560? I’m really wanting that or the UMX pits.
Fun guaranteed either way 👍😎⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors any chance they will develop a UMX Eratix? That would be amazing for those of us with smaller hangers.
Ooops Nate
E flight turbo timber evo VS durafly tundra v2?
