    Seeing you open that box reminded me of the way my grandmother wrapped presents. It took forever to open them.

    Very nice 👍. I do love the look of the Wordsworth 😍. Will have to check out the dimensions because I'm now only purchasing small fountain pens. I have 2 vintage Conway Stewarts from the 40s and 50s, and both are excellent writers .

      If it's any help, this one is 13 cm long with the cap on, about 12.5 without the cap, and 16.5 capped. About 0.8 cm at the section's narrowest. For me, it's just about perfect. I really love this pen!

    Hello, I am a 14 year old boy and I have to say I have really had a fascination with this channel. I love writing and making my own stories and this channel seems like a good way of learning about that hobby. I really like these videos because it shows me aspects and cool little things that I love to see. I don’t know the name of the creator of this channel but who ever it is thank you and I really enjoy the videos!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, there, and thanks for the comment - if it's working for you, the channel is working! I'm the twit on the screen - my name's Michael Jecks, and I'm the author of about 45 novels, all mysteries, and most of them set in the middle ages. I only started up this channel originally to talk about books, but soon I realised that many people were keen to talk about pens, and since I've got an unhealthy fascination with fountain pens in particular, the channel has sort of moved over - although I still try to make sure that I get a video up about writing as often as I can!
      I'm really glad you like the channel. If you want advice on writing, I have got several videos up on plotting and characterisation, but if you have specific questions, just drop me a line here, or go to my website at www.MichaelJecks.co.uk and hit the "contact me" button.
      Best wishes
      Mike

    Hello Sir!
    I know you've probably been told this many times before, but I'd like to tell you too; "you're a source of inspiration!" I'm sorry if that sounds cheesy, but it is what I solemnly believe! You are extraordinarily humble, in my opinion. I hope you and your family (as well as your pets) are safe and well! My regards to you sir!

      No, I have to admit, that's a new compliment, and I'm deeply honoured and grateful, my friend. We're all safe and well, thanks, and I hope you and your family keep well too!

    Hiya Michael,
    That black chased Churchill reminds me of my CS Carbolic Smoke Ball Lawyer's Pen (based on the Wellington model). My CS grail pen is the Churchill Poppy (I am a bit of an anachronism and retired military and no other pen will do! Lol). I am sorry to see you return these beauties, however, take comfort in the fact that the Conway Stewarts you already own beat these hands-down in my humble opinion. Cheers and stay safe, Steve

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do admit that I love my Drake and the Michael Jecks, and my Churchill has a special place as the pen that restarted my interest in fountain pens - but I have to admit, these two with the new Bespoke nibs are just glorious. If I could, I would get a Wordsworth like this one. It's really lovely to write with, and the nib is superb, absolutely superb.

      They are, Sebastian. It's going to be a real wrench to send them back - but they are only on loan, sadly. That little Wordsworth, though, that is a beauty. Both of them write like a dream - it's just hard to put them down!

      writerlywitterings well with lockdown the way it is and taking your own safety into account what with Covid-19. You might have to delay the expected return date by a few weeks if not months, no? Such a shame that.

      Hi, Fizix - I'll be getting some decent photos of them both and putting them into the video using them both, I promise. For now, though, they write like a dream - but I adore the Wordsworth - it is the perfect size and balance for me. Just beautiful!

      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Angela. Yes, they are truly gorgeous, both of them. I have to admit, the writing experience with the Churchill is vastly better than with my own original model. That was lovely, but this is better balanced, and has a better weight in the hand. As for the Wordsworth - that is just divine, it really is.

    I also received a Conway Stewart pen today. Mine is a Wordsworth Rose Ripple in ebonite. It's no longer available on the site, but Alastair Adams was kind enough to have one put together from the remaining CS stock. It's length surprised me, too. But when posted, it is the perfect length for my hand and really well-balanced. The nibs aren't from CS but the fine I ordered writes extremely smoothly. Once you've tried the ones you have, you just may want to buy one.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Douglas, and yes, I would adore a Wordsworth. It is just the right size and weight for me, and like you I am hugely impressed with the nib. It feels just perfect to me. I hope they have plenty of stock to supply others as well! Sadly, much though I'd adore one, my finances have collapsed this year. It's halved because of all the cancelled teaching, lecturing and tour guiding jobs, so no chance of buying anything this year!

    I am certain that you will be well pleased with their performance, and crestfallen to return them. My own Churchill is by Bespoke, and I am blessed to have it.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bespoke really did do a fabulous job with the Conway Stewart range, didn't they? I am really impressed with this one. And as for the Wordsworth - I'd take one like a shot, if I could. Just a lovely writer, and so practical for slipping into a pocket. It'll hurt to send them back, as you say!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be an easy choice. I am blown away by the feel of the Wordsworth. It's small enough for any pocket, big enough and balanced enough for even a fairly large hand like mine - and I already have a Churchill!

    If only I knew the value of these pens. I had a Churchill Classic I gave to a work colleague some years ago. It was ok to use, but I found it a bit scratchy, so had no problem giving up. Blimey.

      You have one very happy work colleague! My only problem was, that the pen was too light. This newer version is much better weighted. I'd suggest to your mate that he owes you a drink!

    A bit off topic perhaps, but I can't take my eyes off the chubby silvery thing in the upper left corner of the movie. It's obviously dispensing blue ink at the moment, is that it's proper function? I cannot figure out what this is, please educate me. I will then watch the video once more and manage to focus on the pens.

    Hi, I'm looking for a short story writer that can tell me about the best ways to write: best computer software, typewriter, using pen and paper. How this effects getting published, how to get published or finding an agent for short stories, how to submit or send the stories off to the agent/publisher in the UK. All I'm seeing on TH-cam is American novel writers and publishers with top ten tips on how to write a novel. Not helping as I live in the UK and never wrote a story before. Can you or anyway please give advise. Thank you.

    The new Conway Stewart fountain pen’s are not Conway Stewart Pen’s if you ask me a lot of Chinese parts go into making them

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know where you get that from? The majority of the pens are being made with the outstanding stock from the last Conway Stewart company, I believe. Which items are Chinese?
      The company is starting to manufacture fresh items, but as I understand it, they are making their own bodies and assemblies. The only thing I can say is, that the new version writes very smoothly and the quality of the workmanship and the resins used are stunning.

      writerlywitterings I collect English made vintage Fountain Pen’s , I have approx 15 Vintage Conway Stewart Fountain Pen’s , I have tried the more recent Winston Churchill Pen but alas it doesn’t hold up to any of my Vintage Conway Stewart Pen’s or my Burnham , Wyvern , Summit etc plus I’ve spoken to Fountain Pen restorers and they’ve all said that the new Conway Stewart Fountain Pen’s are not a patch on the vintage one’s.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markwoods4574 I'm enormously jealous - I would love some vintage Conway Stewarts. However, the Churchill was made long before Conway Stewart folded. My own was made here in England (Plymouth) from about 1999 or 2000 (I think). The new ones are also made in England under the new management, in Portsmouth. The 100s, Wordsworths etc are all made from UK parts made in Plymouth.
      Personally, I'd really like to get my hands on one of the casein pens. They're supposed to have a wonderful feel to them, or so I've read - rather similar to ebonite. Those older pens must have been gorgeous, from the look of the photos I've seen. But I would be willing to bet that the modern ones will be more reliable simply due to the quality of the machine tools etc available. The set up at Plymouth was really astonishing - computerised lathes etc. It was nothing like the old photos of their workshops in London near St Paul's!
      Thanks for the comments. I'm looking forward to testing other Conway Stewart pens soon - a Duro, a Belliver, and a special 58. Hope you may find some of them interesting!
