MaamI want to share also the story of my mother who is also a current teacher in the US. She was hired in year 2006 with H1B visa not J1 (which is the current visa right now for teachers). That time my mother was already 44yo with 24 years of public school teaching in Isabela (Region 2). At that time, she was initially offered a salary of 68k USD per annum to worked in Baltimore City. She worked there for 5 years. She then transferred to New Mexico (because of immigration matters) and stayed for 3 years - offered with 75k USD. Now, she went back to Baltimore and then again offered with 110K USD per year. P.S. The main reason my mother applied to teach in the US was for me to pursue my medical degree. And now I am already a Physician, with 8 years experience. Thanks to my parents who help me pursue my dreams.
It all depends on your school district. Some places pay way less but housing costs a lot more because of what may be in close proximity. For example, if the beach is nearby, or an Airbase is close, you bet your last penny, it is going to cost a whole lot more. I live in a place where there is no bus line so a car is not optional. I find your videos quite informative.
It depends on what U.S. State one is residing. Other States charges State and County taxes on top of Federal, Soc. Security and Mediacare tax deductions. And if one would prefer to avail medical, dental, and optical insurances- that's part of your paycheck deductions also.. Other states have high housing, Gas and living costs.
Thank you Ms. Alyssa. Very detailed explanation, I could weigh down options based on real situations through your shared experiences... Hope to start my journey soon..
thank you so much for this very informative video ma'am Alissa. I was about to give up my teaching in US dream because someone I know told me that Teacher are the lowest salary in the US. She told me that $50k is not enough to cover the needs of my family because I was also planning to bring my family with me. I think it still depends in our ways of living, the way we spent our money.
As the cost of room and transportation and everything ese is according where you live . If you live in the mountains everything could cost less but consider there is not many Job opportunities and salaries are less too !

Just consider that everything in the USA is expensive. If you want to live alone expect to pay at least 1000 a month for for a cheap place. As long as you know, then go for it!
