Really cool, Brad. Thank you! I suppose I could see a production unit between $1100 and $1300 that would include a few of the items you mentioned and definitely foldable or attachable bouts stuffed somewhere in the case. It would probably be considerably more building one unit at a time.

Brad, My mind is blown!!! This guy is a frickin genus!!!!!! He reminds me of Leo Fender in the way that he is an accomplished inventor, engineer, and Luther !!! I was stationed in Japan for 4 years with the USAF Bands and they love American guitars! Their illegal law suit copies were the seed that started Fender Japan.thanks for your wonderful videos!!!

    Two thoughts about this.
    1. Not practical. There will be far more problems down the road than _any_ benefit you might get from this product. A total waste of time and money for any player out there. There are far better ideas and designs for a travel guitar.
    2. Totally awesome!
From an industrial design perspective, this thing is pure art. A total museum piece that belongs in any collection, not just restricted to a musical collection.
    ...I want two of each.

ANY Clapton solo I'd upload would CLEARLY slow my growth because they hate anybody mentioning him since he didn't stay with the "narrative" during covid. They clearly want to cancel him AND his fans.

Hey Brad...hmmm dunno...I vaguely remember seeing something like those guitars in an old Japanese guitar magazine from the late 70's/early 80's. I used to get different Japanese guitar magazines back in the 80's and they were full of guitar advertising from all kinds of shops. It seemed like innovative travel sized instruments and other novelty designs were fairly common . I was always amazed at what the Japanese were producing that we never saw in the West, for the most part. Although that fellow is obviously very talented, imho I don't think there would be much of a market for the folding portable guitar other than as an interesting novelty. Thanks fir the video.Cheers!

    • @ChristopherCobra
      @ChristopherCobra 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Likely would be a large market in a place like Japan. Personal space (even in the home) is at a premium there. I myself would pick one up depending on the price and quality. Much easier to travel with than a full rig or even acoustic. I have a few Japanese guitars - including a marquis/Polaris HB. They can make quality instruments for certain - and make them reasonably inexpensive. Good video.

Never understood travel size guitars. I’ve traveled. Planes, trains, automobiles…lol. Never had a problem with a full size guitar case. I took public transportation for years, taking my favorite guitar everyday. I do understand how cool the design is here. But travel guitars leave a lot to be desired.

Very interesting. The Japanese thinking is: compact, but with extreme attention to detail. Also, they will try things that corporate America mindset would never approve into production. Just take all the unusual electronics designs from Matsushita and Sony in the 1970s.
Or consider Olfa paper cutters. It's just a paper cutter, but when you inspect the plastic molding, it's perfect. And they have a cartridge model you can load 5 blades into, it has a back door. Genius.

Yes I've seen that guitar somewhere before,(believe it was Derell Braun channel ) but it didn't impress me enough to even remember it's name, the lever in the back stretches the strings back in tune, probably the best travel guitar I've seen, but I'm not even into them, a guitar to me, has to have a neck that doesn't fold and a body big enough to hold,I would have loved that guitar when I was a kid, back in my 007 & man from uncle days ect,but now I seek better tones and playability, not portability.

I'm an international traveling businessman and daily practitioner of guitar. Every time I go on a long trip the only way I can get to sleep is by imagining I'm playing a guitar instead of counting sheep. This is a god send. He should find a quality manufacturer and start by selling in the duty free. Seems like an odd place to sell an instrument, but I have a hunch it would do surprisingly well and get great global marketing at the same time. Had I seen this at my last stop i would not hesitate to buy this. I'm not sure what it should be priced at, but the convenience is next level. That in itself would add value to this amazing creation.
The case is cool, but honestly you can have a soft case to pack in a carry-on suitcase with a small modeler with headphone jack. fkg genius! Also AAFES (Army, Airforce Exchange) in deployed areas over seas wouldn't be able to keep this thing in stock. Bored soldiers would be all over this!

Ciari Guitars has gone around at NAMM the last few years and has been featured on a few channels recently. They make a similar guitar design with a neck that folds back using a special mechanism, but their guitars have a full body and headstock. They have several stock models and configs and can make customs design. It’s actually not a ton of money for what it is and the fact that it’s made in Nashville - they start at $1599. Have you seen that brand? Would be interesting to compare the Ciari design to this one.

Guitar of the future...or piece of junk from the past? I've got my eye on a Steinberger Spirit Pro with a NUX Mighty Amp 3 and headphones for travel purposes. It comes in a gig bag and doesn't fold but it's headless with (I think) a more elegant tuning machine solution, loaded with 3 pickups, 5-way selector, lap enabler and a whammy bar. These are going in the $349 - $399 range. I'm not crazy about folding the guitar and strings and being so far out of tune just to fit it in a smaller case, even with an amp. That bass was pretty cool though.

I asked Bard this question: is yugi shimano known as a guitar builder?
    Bard's answer:
Yes, Yugi Shimano is a well-known guitar builder. He is known for his meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. His guitars are highly sought-after by musicians around the world.
Shimano began building guitars in his early 20s. He was initially self-taught, but he later studied under some of the world's most renowned guitar makers. He opened his own workshop in Japan in the early 1990s, and he quickly gained a reputation for building some of the finest guitars in the world.
Shimano's guitars are known for their exceptional tone and playability. He uses only the finest materials and construction methods. He also pays close attention to the individual needs of each customer, and he tailors each guitar to the customer's specific playing style and preferences.
Some of the most famous musicians who play Yugi Shimano guitars include Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Sting. Shimano's guitars have also been featured on numerous recordings and in films.
Shimano is a true master of his craft. He is a gifted craftsman who builds some of the finest guitars in the world. His guitars are highly prized by musicians around the world for their exceptional tone and playability.

yeah i remember asking Chat GPT about some random song lyrics by Phish. Lyrics that are pretty obscure but definitely available online and well established. its answer was so confusing; it had SOME correct lyrics mixed with random lines from Roundabout by YES. it was really hung up on those YES lyrics, particularly "Mountains come out of the sky and STAND THERE" (which i always found to be somewhat comedic due to their anti climatic nature-like thats all they did?). the answer seemed realistic tho if one didnt know better they would think the lyrics were accurate.
when i saw the list of famous players who supposedly play this guys guitars, i got similar vibes. if this guy sold guitars to Clapton and the like, i feel like there would be way more information about him and he wouldn't be so hard to find. Bards answer sounds like he was talking about a different luthier just like chat pgt was giving me lyrics to a completely different song. or maybe im wrong and this guy actually put his guitars in some famous hands. but long story short these AIs lie with full confidence and its odd.

I'd pay $800 as it is in the video, but the sky is the limit if it was total state of the build with the neck and body made out out of the same type heavier-than-wood resin that Steinberger uses on their basses and guitars. I'm a huge fan of Steinberger bass guitars. My buddy has the first series and I always avoided playing it until one night I was really under the weather and he swore I could be half asleep and the Steinberger would damn near play itself. It felt so good playing it I forgot about being ill.

This is how a serial killer puts all of his guitars away.... before burying them in the garden....
On a side note this is fantastic for small ladies, little people and peeps who are chonks. Because you've weight relieved so much AND you've got rid of all the wood that makes playing a guitar uncomfortable if you're carrying extra padding in the chesticles. We've all seen that person playing a strat and that upper horn cuts into them like a butcher against the chest. Saddle bag Sally or Orangutan Reggie this guitar keeps you free.
I genuinely hope this guy makes a bunch of money off this where his company gets bought out and the line increases in fidelity and availability. There would be people interested in an all aluminium guitar for sure. Or aluminium and carbon fibre. Too many things you can try just with materials and pickups. Clearly you could take any modelling amp or small valve amp and retrofit it to a similar cavity. Tons of options.

$750 USD is probably the limit that people would spend but only possible if these were mass produced. There's an opportunity with that empty case to use transducers. Could be a unique sound for sure. Very cool and that guy is a natural engineer, no doubt.

I'm surprised he doesn't have inflatable carbon fiber origami fold out sides you pump up with the same lever that folds it open.

I could see this next to my cigar box guitar.....in my garage. The design is cool, I cant deny that, but who is this for? I feel that when you get to a stage in your life where you have to have a guitar on you at all times, chances are you are also someone who is particular about tone and playability. Like that dude who checks his truss rods twice a week. I have to carry a case no matter what, might as well be a strat. As far as the amp, I'd prefer a bose L1 compact. I can carry that over my shoulder and not sound like crap. Roland also has some portable battery powered options that sound great. Whatever, love the channel, would never buy anything like this.

You an buy these the brand is Ciari, cost about $1,600. They do a double cut that looks like a rounder jazz master that can fit in a reasonably small bag considering the guitar.. Really is a great idea.

While it looks like interesting engineering, it doesn't look comfortable to play. And I doubt the market really needs another travel guitar. Plus, the need for travel guitars isn't all that big. But of course, if you build a better mousetrap...

Cool gimmick , I wouldn’t let someone play anything like that in my bands honestly . How does it stay in tune jumping around ? But it does save someone a couple feet of space if someone has to Uber to band practice .

Never happen - the draw of the guitar is not only the versatility and artistic input from the instrument itself , but it’s the archetypal “Guitar Hero” image , and this CONTRAPTION just DOES NOT LOOK COOL!!!

    • @TheGuitologist
      @TheGuitologist  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Your point is noted; however, the archetypal is passe for those of us who are over the "Guitar Hero" image. That IS the draw of this for someone like me. I'm more interested in the art and engineering of the device rather than the vanity of posing like some silhouetted visage. Besides, who else has a full rig in a briefcase they can carry around? The exclusivity of that alone is a draw, surely.
