Nice and comprehensive overview of the void. Definitely it's the most effectively terrifying part in Subnautica (at least the first one) for me. Not just the ghost leviathans, who are a sizable and effectively undefeatable threat, but also the idea that, no mater what, there's nothing you can do get past it. It's the true end, but no end at all - just an endless expanse. Particularly straight down, where there truly would be no escape from it. Endlessly increasing darkness and pressure as you get further from the sunlight, expanses of water that put entire planets to shame. It's easy to forget, immersed in the surface biomes and caves, but the idea that the map is just this colossal floating chunk of stone in a truly endless ocean is more terrifying than any leviathan could hope to be.
You mentioned a theory about the wounds on the void checiclarate and how something bigger likely would have caused those. That is chilling to think about.
The Void is something that made Subnautica very special. All the theories and creepypastas based around this seemingly large stretch of open water. And if you think in a more scientific term, there's most likely underwater volcanoes near the bottom, that most likely will create other stretches of land like the Crater and Sector Zero. Its also obvious that the Void is the only "Dark Zone" of Subnautica, (The Dark Zone usually starting past the Twilight Zone about 1,000 meters down. And biomes like the Grand Reef, Sea Treader's Path, and Blood Kelp Zone are obviously inspired by the Twilight Zone.) And seeing as we only know about 5% of our own oceans, both the Void of Subnautica and the Dark Zone of the real world are two things our imagination tends to dwell on. What lurks down there? Seeing as Subnautica Below Zero is seemingly the final entry in the series, we can only keep guessing. Good video!
One time I was just wondering in a normal biome when I glitched under the map, I thought it was a good way to travel safely so I stayed there, until I got the void message and was attacked by ghost leviathan just a meter below the surface of a normal biome, one of my scariest subnautica experiences
in subnautica below zero during development, right at the beginning, where your character was already spawning in the base already on the planet, the map was not complete and in the void area I remember Sea Emperor leviathan saying "hi" to you was the most cool at the beginning of Below zero.
I want a game like this where it tricks you with thinking the void is the edge of map and fills it with terrifying things to deter the player... but in reality there's a bunch of hidden secrets, exclusive items, and lore dumps to find. Bonus points if they wait a couple years before adding it in a stealth update.
@@anirudhashok3332 There are, actually! There are two adults in the Grand Reef and one in the Northern Blood Kelp Zone, according to the wiki. In my experience I've seen one that seems to usually patrol about halfway between the sea treader path and the grand reef Degasi base, and one that generally hangs around close to the Lost River entrance in northern blood kelp.
i honestly wish there was a part of the void that was optional to explore, like a deep sea alien facility with some Easter egg/s, also i think there should be like little grub creatures hanging on the rock side, it's always been a really cool looking environment to me
i really hope the next game explores the void more because honestly its such a cool concept. Also love the vids. joined the discord so now i make sure i watch new vids :)))
Would be awesome, imagine exploring a bioilluminescent reef deep in the void, if you try to swim up you'd get attacked by ghost leviathans and maybe void chelicerates.
This volcano could be one of many underwater mountains dotted across 4546b’s tropics. And the layout of this volcano from summit to base is interesting. You’ve got the crater, then you’ve got the edges which are basically a steep wall, I dunno how the base looks like, but I do believe the base gradually slopes into the ocean floor plain. I have found a good real life example, the devils tower in Wyoming.
@@mapleflag6518 I think the only continent is sector zero, right? If it’s one of the poles like Antarctica being the continent and the arctic only being an ocean. I remember at the end of the game where u see the planet, that those small “continents” are just islands from my perspective.
Every few months I’ll come back to Subnautica and Subnautica Below Zero exactly cause of this The unknown lore behind the void in this example or you’re longest base building videos brings me always back into Subnautica Thanks 🔥
some of Bacon's videos are so professional and steady while others are so funny they make you burst out laughing, and this video was the first of the two types but was still pretty educational and fun
or post game content like after you beat it if you go back you will get new messages on the radio which are missions that give fun stuff like a gun for the cyclops(mission example: defeat x reaper leviathans
I always love learning about each biome, the developers put so much love into each games environments. I'm sure they'll be just as dedicated with subnautica 3. If multi-player is really a thing in the next game I hope they make it cross platform.
i like to think that when the ghost leviathans stop chasing you its because youve entered the area of another (and probably bigger) leviathan, because the pda says that the void is home to "many leviathans", not many ghost leviathans, and it also says that the ghosts are very territorial, explaining why they dont leave the void and why they stopp chasing the player, its because its not their area anymore
My first experience with the below zero void was as follows: travel in my sea truck, pda says I’m in the void, quickly turn around to leave and take a massive hit from the back. I get out and see the flick of a tail moving back into the darkness. Never went back
Right as I got a notification for this video I immediately went and watched it Oh and Subnautica has been my favorite game almost IMMEDIATELY as I first saw it
God, I'd LOVE a void update... You know, like, to not just be the end of the map, but be like the "second stage" of the games, and being able to explore and having actual content out there...
I'm really happy I found your channel, dude. I recently discovered Subnautica, like a month a half ago, and I've fucking playing it, almost obsessively, non-stop. I find the gameplay loop so... relaxing despite being terrified half the time. I always listen to your videos in background while I play.
The void is such a huge missed opportunity for dlc I'm hopeful that call from the void will come out within a few years so i can experience how they should've used it
Hello, TLB. I haven't been able to watch your videos due to being very busy, but one thing hasn't changed; watching your videos makes me happy. 😊 Thanks for making such entertaining videos! Keep it up!❤
This is real story, real thing that happened to me while playing first Subnautica (you dont have to believe me if you dont want to) In first Subnautica, i wanted to try how far can i get into void (not into deep, but straight foward) in cyclops, and after while being attacked by 3 Ghost leviathans, lots of Ghost leviathan's screams and almost having panic attack, everything suddendly stopped, Ghost leviathans swimmed back away from me and stopped screaming and that scary blue color changed into grey colored water and when i looked that "cheat menu" (or something like that) to look at in what biome i am, it useally says like "biome: kelp forest", but when i looked at it, it says "biome: *empty space*" (it didnt said empty space, but nothing was there), i quickly swimmed back into void (because that silence never was scarier (i would never believe how happy would i be to hear Ghost leviathans)) and when i looked at radar, something was quickly (like REALLY QUICKLY) swimming to me and then dissappeared before crashing into me My friend said that i was probably Phantom leviathan, but idk whats that supposed to be since theres literally nothing on internet about Phantom leviathan
@@TheLastBacon i guess so, it was coming to me at straight line with yellow color (red color is when animal attacks you), like, i really dont believe it was Phantom leviathan, since there's literally pure nothingness about it
Glad fhe community for this game is stil lvery active, I love it and it has to be one of my favorates, my phone and computer screen is stuff from this game, awesome videos though, the void always interested me
I remember playing below zero when i had little to no experience with subnautica and ended up in the void and not seeing the void creatures (sorry i don't know how to spell their name) i finally saw one and a freaked out and it killed me I started that world maybe 20 minutes before that. 😆
I have a question if you don't mind. Assuming this planet was real the void would have a floor right? So if the auruora landed in the void and was standing upwards. Would it still be underwater or you reckon the top would be poking out? Weird question I know.
It’s interesting…why the architects made so much effort on hiding the emperor deep in the lava zone and building complex systems to make a living ecosystem for it, instead of just build near the surface (less infrastructure needed). + ghost leviathans don’t get out the void, they could have bigger meals by interning the shore of other ecosystems…what do they fear? +the gargantuan died in this volcanic Island environment where the game developed, which makes me wonder…how it end up there? There might be a migratory course of súper leviathans that arrive to the map and reproduce or just pass by, this would explain the ghost leviathans behavior, the gargantuan fossils and the strong protection to the emperor, besides it’s already known important purpose. I know it’s just programmed npc to not let the player abandoned the map, but it’s cool to think there is something else out there staying unnoticed. There’s too much space and oxygen perfect for mega fauna to developed.
The deep ocean in general bugs me. The void (and the crash zone) in Subnautica Triggers a violent revulsion in me that I can't explain other than possible thalassophobia.
Ya know what would be an awesome mod or feature in the first game? Once you get to the true void, you come across a creature so massive that the smallest bubble it can make dwarves the aurora as a whole, but when scanned, the PDA just breaks due to how large this.... yea no i cant really think of a class to describe how gigantic this would be, best i can come up with is Behemoth class
another thing. I just had a dream about subnautica below zero. I was the dead zone. I saw what a zombie like shrimp (shrimp boy that replaces the reaper) was. it was massive. like super duper massive. I screamed and swam with my sea glide only to see the other shrimp boy aka Reaper Leviathan. I was like in the back of the ship of the aurora and as it killed me, I woke up screaming. terrifying dream if you ask me.
I'm quite recent fan of this game and subscriber to this channel. I'm amased how many people show love for this game and how great the fandom is. As for the void I must say I love this idea of big empty space with nothing to find or see besides Ghost leviathans. Yet on the other hand I wonder if it wouldn't be better to have an unique giant creature lurking deep down (maybe at the level of the 'true void') or that 'The Single Cell Landscape' (if it was even possible to implement). Anyway, thank you for the great video!
Oh my, watching the underwater voids gave me quiet a degree of anxiety. It had not the intense fear I can have if I'm the one playing, but the anxiety was there in my gut lol. Love this game. So glad there is a true Subnautica 2 coming. Can't wait!
Using the grappling arm for the prawn suit in the tundra void you can grapple the ground and walk really far away from the point grappled and then get some ridiculous speed and swing through the whole map.
The original void will always be terrifying (probably objectively better) but something about below’s zero’s void absolutely horrifies me, maybe it’s the fact the void chelicerates look like zombies, they appear so fast and you can’t see them until they’re right on you (unlike the glowing, somewhat slower ghosts) or the ambience, but my first time stumbling upon it was a chilling experience
hey this is actually pretty unrelated to the video but the place we play on in subnautica would actually most likely be a "caldera" which is similar to a crater in shape but it is usually much larger and it is formed by the inward collapse of a volcano post-eruption!
Dude the anxiety i get from the void and far lands just being such vast, weird, empty spaces, is just crazy, my heart is pounding just looking st the video. Its so fascinating to me lol.
@@TheLastBacon I was building a base or smth, I once got to the back of the aurora without a prawn I think, I was going down, but I saw like the map? I remember building a massive base that expanded out into the void in creative mode, and yet I'm still terrified of going behind the aurora
Nothing good happens behind the Aurora :)
It's the reaper's paired with fact that you can't see them but when you hear one it means they see you.
One time I was just wondering in a normal biome when I glitched under the map, I thought it was a good way to travel safely so I stayed there, until I got the void message and was attacked by ghost leviathan just a meter below the surface of a normal biome, one of my scariest subnautica experiences
Definitely not a safe way to travel :)
that bone shark is on a mission 0:18
Haha most definitely :)
Where is bro going😭
Where is it
@@-SpaceNewsNow-off on a side quest to sector zero lol
in subnautica below zero during development, right at the beginning, where your character was already spawning in the base already on the planet, the map was not complete and in the void area I remember Sea Emperor leviathan saying "hi" to you was the most cool at the beginning of Below zero.
Good times during early access :)
Ive played this game for years and had hundreds of playthroughs, but there us always more to learn and i love it
Dang you're a true OG! :)
I want a game like this where it tricks you with thinking the void is the edge of map and fills it with terrifying things to deter the player... but in reality there's a bunch of hidden secrets, exclusive items, and lore dumps to find. Bonus points if they wait a couple years before adding it in a stealth update.
I’d love that so much :)
I am suprised how scary the void can be even tho i know what it has in it.
Right?! :)
There’s something different about the ghosts leviathans in the void. They seem very different (not in a good way)
Yeah they're also larger! :)
Well, they are adults, the one in the lost river is only a child ghost leviathan
I know they’re adults, they still seem different to the other adults though. They seem scarier out in the abyss…
@@shaunlawson1498 there are no other adults to compare to though
@@anirudhashok3332 There are, actually! There are two adults in the Grand Reef and one in the Northern Blood Kelp Zone, according to the wiki. In my experience I've seen one that seems to usually patrol about halfway between the sea treader path and the grand reef Degasi base, and one that generally hangs around close to the Lost River entrance in northern blood kelp.
i honestly wish there was a part of the void that was optional to explore, like a deep sea alien facility with some Easter egg/s, also i think there should be like little grub creatures hanging on the rock side, it's always been a really cool looking environment to me
Same!! :)
i really hope the next game explores the void more because honestly its such a cool concept. Also love the vids. joined the discord so now i make sure i watch new vids :)))
I totally agree :) Yay thank you! Welcome to the discord!
Would be awesome, imagine exploring a bioilluminescent reef deep in the void, if you try to swim up you'd get attacked by ghost leviathans and maybe void chelicerates.
Hi bacon, just wanted to say, thank you for keeping this wonderful game alive, much love
Much live right back! :)
Ooh that is an excellent example! I bet it looks very similar :)
@@TheLastBacon indeed it is
Plus there are also a couple smaller continents right?
@@mapleflag6518 I think the only continent is sector zero, right? If it’s one of the poles like Antarctica being the continent and the arctic only being an ocean.
I remember at the end of the game where u see the planet, that those small “continents” are just islands from my perspective.
@@moalzaben5554 we don’t see the entire planet.
Every few months I’ll come back to Subnautica and Subnautica Below Zero exactly cause of this
The unknown lore behind the void in this example or you’re longest base building videos brings me always back into Subnautica Thanks 🔥
Yay thank you! :) That's awesome!
some of Bacon's videos are so professional and steady while others are so funny they make you burst out laughing, and this video was the first of the two types but was still pretty educational and fun
Yay thank you kindly! :)
I really hope the 3 game has a more horror feel with being forced.
More horror would be fun :)
terror
or post game content like after you beat it if you go back you will get new messages on the radio which are missions that give fun stuff like a gun for the cyclops(mission example: defeat x reaper leviathans
I always love learning about each biome, the developers put so much love into each games environments. I'm sure they'll be just as dedicated with subnautica 3. If multi-player is really a thing in the next game I hope they make it cross platform.
Absolutely :) Can't wait for the 3rd game!
Evening gentlemen it’s me Rick “belch” Sanchez and I just wanna say I love this channel and this game
Evening sir! Thank you so much :)
No problem its an honour
How you manage to re use content without it getting stale is incredible. You keep this game alive.
Thank you :) Trying my best!
i like to think that when the ghost leviathans stop chasing you its because youve entered the area of another (and probably bigger) leviathan, because the pda says that the void is home to "many leviathans", not many ghost leviathans, and it also says that the ghosts are very territorial, explaining why they dont leave the void and why they stopp chasing the player, its because its not their area anymore
I really like that theory :) Wish there was something like that actually in the game!
My first experience with the below zero void was as follows: travel in my sea truck, pda says I’m in the void, quickly turn around to leave and take a massive hit from the back. I get out and see the flick of a tail moving back into the darkness. Never went back
Good thing you turned around :)
The third game needs to have a void that acts as a regular biome as well, maybe even add some exclusive resources or fragments
Would be awesome to see a dark/deep biome like the void :)
Something in Subnautica makes me come back everytime to it. Such an amazing game. Love your videos!
Yay thank you :)
Right as I got a notification for this video I immediately went and watched it
Oh and Subnautica has been my favorite game almost IMMEDIATELY as I first saw it
Yay thank you kindly :)
God, I'd LOVE a void update... You know, like, to not just be the end of the map, but be like the "second stage" of the games, and being able to explore and having actual content out there...
I’d very much love that too :)
Why in the freash fuck was there a peircing metal screech at 2:20? Shit almost blew my fucking ear drums out
Yes :)
@@TheLastBaconWHY?!
This game is definitely my favorite game of all time, best visuals, awesome effects and terrifying gameplay
It is an amazing game for sure :)
I never knew that there were deposits in the below zero void... Time to make a new base 💀
Haha best of luck :)
Dont forget the moon pool so you can go out Like Samuel L. in "Deep Blue Sea"
Lol
I'm really happy I found your channel, dude.
I recently discovered Subnautica, like a month a half ago, and I've fucking playing it, almost obsessively, non-stop.
I find the gameplay loop so... relaxing despite being terrified half the time.
I always listen to your videos in background while I play.
Yay thank you so much :) Really glad you’re enjoying the game!
Can we take a moment to appreciate the work he puts inside of himself?
Thank you! :)
The void is such a huge missed opportunity for dlc I'm hopeful that call from the void will come out within a few years so i can experience how they should've used it
Absolutely :)
Never knew the map was on a dormant volcano crater
Now you know! :)
You can see it in the last two biomes if you haven't beat the game yet
Hello, TLB.
I haven't been able to watch your videos due to being very busy, but one thing hasn't changed; watching your videos makes me happy. 😊
Thanks for making such entertaining videos! Keep it up!❤
Thank you so much :) That really means a lot!
This is real story, real thing that happened to me while playing first Subnautica (you dont have to believe me if you dont want to)
In first Subnautica, i wanted to try how far can i get into void (not into deep, but straight foward) in cyclops, and after while being attacked by 3 Ghost leviathans, lots of Ghost leviathan's screams and almost having panic attack, everything suddendly stopped, Ghost leviathans swimmed back away from me and stopped screaming and that scary blue color changed into grey colored water and when i looked that "cheat menu" (or something like that) to look at in what biome i am, it useally says like "biome: kelp forest", but when i looked at it, it says "biome: *empty space*" (it didnt said empty space, but nothing was there), i quickly swimmed back into void (because that silence never was scarier (i would never believe how happy would i be to hear Ghost leviathans)) and when i looked at radar, something was quickly (like REALLY QUICKLY) swimming to me and then dissappeared before crashing into me
My friend said that i was probably Phantom leviathan, but idk whats that supposed to be since theres literally nothing on internet about Phantom leviathan
Yeah you definitely left the "regular void" at that point :) Not sure about the creature though - could've also been a bug I suppose!
@@TheLastBacon i guess so, it was coming to me at straight line with yellow color (red color is when animal attacks you), like, i really dont believe it was Phantom leviathan, since there's literally pure nothingness about it
The radar signal could have been something left over from development, maybe when they were testing the radar.
Glad fhe community for this game is stil lvery active, I love it and it has to be one of my favorates, my phone and computer screen is stuff from this game, awesome videos though, the void always interested me
Thank you kindly :) It’s an amazing community for sure!
I remember playing below zero when i had little to no experience with subnautica and ended up in the void and not seeing the void creatures (sorry i don't know how to spell their name) i finally saw one and a freaked out and it killed me I started that world maybe 20 minutes before that. 😆
Oof yeah the first visit to the void is never pleasant :)
At first I thought you were helping aci tease his project, I’m so hyped
Oh maybe at some point ;)
0:05 No pain no gain
Haha fair :D
@@TheLastBacon if there isnt repercussions ill do it again 100%
Ok, you got me. After months of watching your vids, I will subscribe, your patience with this game is insane. Love it.
Thank you kindly! :) Welcome to the community!!
I have a question if you don't mind. Assuming this planet was real the void would have a floor right? So if the auruora landed in the void and was standing upwards. Would it still be underwater or you reckon the top would be poking out? Weird question I know.
Given the bottom of the void is mostly around 3k deep, it would certainly be underwater :) I believe the Aurora is just around 1300m long.
@@TheLastBacon that's crazy!!! Thank you.
I don't even play subnautica anymore, but Bacon makes me remember how good of a game it is.
Yay that's awesome! :)
Nice Secrets... I Never New Any of Them Before This.
Yay that's awesome :)
Ooh that’s a great theory actually :) It is really strange how much effort they went through to build for the emperor where they did.
i love this game. its such a shame that its so underated
It really is :)
I had no idea what I had when I was playing Subnautica for the first time. I wish I could relive it again.
🙏
0:39 *looks at bag full of O2 tanks* I think I'm probably going to need a bigger backpack as well
BIG oxygen tank :)
@@TheLastBacon yeah
You, speedymouse and salvner always feed my Subnautica addiction. Love the awesome content :)
Yay thank you kindly! :)
No matter how many times I see someone enter the void in this game, it always makes me so uncomfortable.😂😭
Always makes me uncomfortable to enter it haha :)
The deep ocean in general bugs me. The void (and the crash zone) in Subnautica Triggers a violent revulsion in me that I can't explain other than possible thalassophobia.
I remember writing a fanfic about if Riley came across a second survivor and if the gargantuan existed. It was a fun little project
Ooh did you publish it anywhere? :)
If you published, drop the link :)
0:08 *looks at pile of 25 reaper bodys* ... I- I'm not sure they're the deadly ones anymore...

Damn I did not now the void had lore ... Another great video!
Thank you kindly :)
How about monumental or astronomical class?
@@zs9652 doesnt really sound threatening enough like levaithen or behemoth
I'd certainly love to see something massive out there :) Even just as an easter egg!
@@TheLastBacon well then, id be happy to learn how to mod and code and sfx and stuff, would be a great use of my time actually
another thing.
Dang that does really sound terrifying :)
Me cuesta mucho ver tus videos porque necesito subtítulos, igualmente los disfruto mucho 😊
Sorry about that :( Wish I could do more translations.
No hay problema, estoy acostumbrado porque hay pocos canales de subnautica en español
Thank you kindly! There were originally plans to have a giant tentacle there to kill the player but that was later scrapped :)
Bit of shame. But now I can imagine the terrifying bugs of giant tentacle :')
can we plz get some more bz lore vids
Sure! This contains BZ lore :)
I've never before realized just how much of the map the Aurora wreck covers.
Yeah it’s freaking massive :)
You should restart making video's on horror rather than focusing your efforts on Subnautica
Definitely want to! :)
Yo, I dont mean to sound wierd but I think your voice is really comforting :)
Really glad you think so :)
you are legit the most dedicated youtuber ive ever seen, you reply to litterally every comment, i think we should have more people dedicated like you
Would be nicer for more creators to interact more :)
Bro the noise at 2:22 made me pop my pants
Haha understandable :)
Oh my, watching the underwater voids gave me quiet a degree of anxiety. It had not the intense fear I can have if I'm the one playing, but the anxiety was there in my gut lol.
Love this game. So glad there is a true Subnautica 2 coming. Can't wait!
I totally feel that - deep water always makes me uneasy :)
This video made me remember when i accidentally went into the void 3 times...at night. That was definitely fun. Great video, as always!
Sounds like fun trips ;) Thank you!
Dudeee sick video and sick thumbnail? You know its gonna be good when bacon uploads
Yay thank you kindly :)
Using the grappling arm for the prawn suit in the tundra void you can grapple the ground and walk really far away from the point grappled and then get some ridiculous speed and swing through the whole map.
Haha really? :)
Yeah true about the OG void! :) It was super freaky!
hey this is actually pretty unrelated to the video but the place we play on in subnautica would actually most likely be a "caldera" which is similar to a crater in shape but it is usually much larger and it is formed by the inward collapse of a volcano post-eruption!
Oh that’s super interesting! :)
The day i go out into the void and see an eyeball the size of the cyclops look back at me is the day my soul gets to see the pearly gates
Haha same :D
You always make good videos about the game, love these lore content like this so much❤
Thank you kindly :)
Subnautics is a very amazing game and i hope they add a feature where you can join another player's world
That would be epic :)
Dude the anxiety i get from the void and far lands just being such vast, weird, empty spaces, is just crazy, my heart is pounding just looking st the video. Its so fascinating to me lol.
I feel it too - it's a really strange type of anxiety :)

Ohh, so that's what I saw on my seaglider map! (I saw terrain below, in the void), but never saw it
Impressive that you made it there with a seaglide :)
@@TheLastBacon I was building a base or smth, I once got to the back of the aurora without a prawn I think, I was going down, but I saw like the map? I saw a flat bottom of the map without anything, but I drowned soon after. (I did this in my survival world/my first world, I have like a week of total playtime on that, without afk, it's like over 3.5 years old). I also lag in my base, so I just kinda avoid that 😂. Btw, I really appreciate that you still read and reply to comments on your 1 year old video. That's really I've never seen. Fun fact, first time I saw the Lost River, I thought I had to go dowb on the crater edge, and there'll be an opening, I had a long time finding the Lost River entrance, I thought it was some forbidden secret loreb for the first time. thx :) Edit: I wasn't building a base, just exploring what's behind the Aurora. When I found a supply crate behind the Aurora, I thought there was smth behind too. I even found masses of Titanium behind, on the surface. I always thought those food bars (I don't remember their names, because it's been a long time, and I played with Hungarian translation, but I always thought those things were priceless, cuz you can't make them 😂. (I used them in hardcore, though, it doesn't matter in hardcore, I always seen hardcore as real game) Do you know why it's still on the seaglide map though? Is it just a bug or smth? (I've seen it on PS 4, before, maybe after the 2.0 update, maybe it's an exclusive bug for PS 4, or it was fixed). :)
That was maybe just a little bit too much... lol
