I have found some at thrift! I use different colors every season...fun. Still use paper towels for wiping grease from dishes pots but haven't bought paper napkins in a year!

I'm finally doing something right!! I haven't used any paper products ever! I tried to bring my daughters up with this philosophy also. Yay!

The only Tina Shenkel I've ever known was a total bad-ass doing all the things right!
No paper products ever is darn impressive and shows us we have plenty of room for improvement!
      Thanks so much for sharing.

I invested in flannel reusable “paper” towels and I love them. They double as napkins or cleaning cloths and when they have all been used (I bought 3 rolls of 24) I toss them in the wash and hang them to dry, roll them back on their cardboard tube and voila! We are back in business. I also invested in “reusable toilet paper” which is also made of flannel. It is great for going #1. I still have regular TP for the hubby who refuses to use the other and for guests and going #2 although there have been times when a damp cloth is preferred for.. lets say “finishing the job” and these are great for it. I have a bucket in the shower where I toss them after they get a good rinsing and then they get tossed in my collapsable washing machine and washed with hot water soap and vinegar. My grocery bill has gone down by not needing to buy TP as often and that is great because everything that is edible in the store costs more. It feels good knowing I am not contributing as much to the destruction of our world this way. I know of families that do this and each person gets their own color of “TP” which is cool because if you have a sewing machine or serger you can make these yourself with a zigzag stitch or serged edges and if you have little ones you can use flannel with their favorite characters on it. You can do the same for reusable “paper” towels. Then they always know where to get a rag if they spill something or a napkin if they want to eat something.

I do have paper products, but other than toilet paper, I generally use cotton and linen towels and washclothes. Old t-shirts often get cut up to use as cleaning rags. As for the free newspaper that comes each week, I reuse them for all kinds of garden projects or drop clothes when painting and gluing all sorts of things.

Yes! Old t-shirts are some of our favorite rags. It sounds like you’ve got a good system going. 🙌🏻

I kept all my grandparents handkerchiefs, tea towels, and napkins after they passed. I use them daily. Using a stack of a dozen linen/cotton hankies instead of paper towels is easy. I always have stacks of cloth rags in the laundry room for cleaning up puppy accidents or cleaning my woodstove glass. Oh, and NEVER use a kitchen sponge to clean anywhere else in the house. Kitchen stuff stays in the kitchen, for sanitary's sake!

Yes!!! We have “special” rags for the kitchen only. We love that you get to reminiscence about your grandparents while you use their linens.

I look for cloth napkins at estate sales. It's easy to find them still in good condition and they're always inexpensive.

Re paper tissues: I always gave cotton handkerchiefs to my children, saying: 'We don't blow our noses into trees'

In a single year, the American logging industry plants an estimated 2.5 billion trees to replace the 900 million trees they cut down. That's 2.5 trees planted for every tree harvested. The logging industry is actually good for the planet. Plus, paper towels are completely biodegradable and can be added to the compost pile. The water that is consumed to wash those cloth towels isn't replaceable, and the soap/detergent is adding to the environmental chemical load. Cloth towels are not the sustainable option you think they are.

Regarding toilet paper: I’ve been using the Seventh Generation recycled tp, which we like. I’ve tried the bamboo but find it too rough😊

We haven't had a chance to write the video yet, but we use a bidet for our backsides, reducing our need for tp drastically.
