@@MangoMonster2007 I found it in a dusty second hand bookstore, the old man thought camera was a 60 years old film camera and the lens was a bbq charcoal chimney. I could haggle and get them both for $10 but I thought I got a good deal.
It's 100% worth it and will be for years to come. All that's happened in the last 10-12 years is higher resolution sensors. But the thing is, we've been able to get very good 24x36" prints from 6Mp images since 2007 or so. Today's generation of camera's have gotten a little better at noise control and other quality of life things like faster and more accurate auto-focus (but that's somewhat dependent on your lens too.) So, getting a D600/D610 on the used market is a fantastic way to step up to a FX body. Best part is, if cared for well, you'll probably be able to recover some $$ in a couple of years if you want, as 24Mp will forever be more an adequate. Many pros like this resolution for the simple fact that they don't fill up cards and hard drives as fast, and the transfer and processing is quicker. They know 36 and 40Mp cameras don't really do anything for their work but slow it down. And yes, I'm a little biased. I got a D610 with a vertical/battery grip for $500 recently. But honestly, I can get just as good of images out of my D90 from 2009. Being good at photography has almost nothing to do with the gear, and the only gear that really means anything is your lens.
Over the years I have owned a few Nikons. My first was the D 70 then I moved up to the D 7000 which I really liked. However I recently purchased the D 600 and everything he has said has been spot on. Even though this is an older model I still love it. I don’t remember if it was mentioned but it has two memory card slots. I like that because I use slot two as a back up. All my pictures are going to both cards. I was fortunate and got mine for $300. It’s rock solid and no issues. I did buy one of those hard screen protectors to cover the LCD. obviously it’s not a touchscreen but I do feel better with that being there. great job.
They should work I believe VR stands for vibration reduction which is a type of stabilization so as long as its the right mount I don't see any problem. ( I have never used one tho..)
Excellent review. I bought a D600 because the prices were depressed owing to the shutter issue. I took the view that most, if not all, of them would have been fixed by Nikon by now and that made them a bargain. I also had a drawer full of old Nikon glass, which was handy.
This looks like the right camera for me. Video is an occasional thing for me where i fit into 'a phone would do but having it on the cameras a bonus' and the resolution will allow more cropping than my d300 at 12mp. thanks for the review. I'm surprised this didnt get more than 1 sequel.
I agree this D600/610 is a bargain for stills. I also think the Canon 70D (crop sensor) s a surprisingly good bargain for talking head videos (with face-tracing AF and a flippy screen.)
No, absolutely not, but d610 instead if you really want a d600 series, because of the shutter defect, that's why nikon released d610 to replace it in such a short period; btw you can't find one brand new d600 because nikon called the unsold d600 back; research a bit you will know what i'm talking about
Wow, Nice review. Great pros and cons. Good Camera for taking pictures. New subsciber here, Nice meeting you at Monte's today. Good job and thanks for sharing.
I haven’t used any of those but looking at the specs the D750 seems way better. Same resolution but newer compared to the D600. It also has better specs on video and better screen feature( touch, tilt etc..) I am assuming the autofocus may slightly perform better as well
You can tell the difference from 22 to 24MP? wow. JK. The D600 is one of my favorite cameras ever made. One thing you need to wary of that this video doesn't tell you, is that Nikon recalled the D600 for the faulty shutter. But Nikon did offer free lifetime replacement of the shutter. So that is one thing to lookout for if you're looking to buy a used D600. Ask the previous owner if the shutter has been replaced by Nikon.
I picked one up about 6 months before they closed the service advisory and got this done on mine. For that reason I think this body will last me a very long time.

Incredibly underrated camera.
Yep
I particularly love that I can free lens with it if I want, great feature that not many DSLRs have.

If you look at how much pro FX lenses have dropped in price since the introduction of mirrorless, it's the best buy for those who are informed.
