True, its a disney Canon thing. Before that the accepted norm, even though it wasn't canon was that Red isn't a nature Adegan Crystal color, so Sith had gather the ingredients and a forge and sit for some times days pouring their dark side emotions into the furnace and build the crystal lattice by lattice. completely and utterly infusing it to the Dark Side. But here in the Acolyte. Disney didn't even follow their very own canon. And they did it in opinion to try and put Osha on a pedestal. To make her seem cooler than the likes of the Dark Siders that came before her. To put their stamp on it, instead of keeping with their own canon.
which is even more of a reason why it shouldnt have happened with osha. Disney made sure to make bleeding the crystal a deliberate act in multiple forms of media, that way it wouldnt conflict with the original 6. everytime we've seen it it was difficult and intentional. On top of that, that lightsaber shouldnt have even been functional anymore. they show the crystal completely dislodged and it looks like the emitter was broken. but i guess its not like theres super detailed info on how a lightsaber is supposed to work....
@@talisredstar1543 this follows Disney canon tho. When Vader bled his crystal in the comics it was difficult because Vader himself still struggled with his light side. Osha's light side was literally split off into a different person at birth.
I still prefer the old lore that red crystals are synthetically creates as opposed to the variety of colors coming from naturally mined crystals. I feel that having the Sith forge their crystal is more consistent with Palpatine's remarks about the dark side being unnatural by Jedi standards. It had a more realistic mythos in my opinion.
Because if the Kyber crystal bled?? What??? In Legends, the Sith used artificial Kyber crystals - that is why they are red, the natural ones are blue or green.
It's just another way that the new characters that haven't earned their spot are given the reward by Disney writing. It's also very representative of people's views today. No one wants to work for anything. They want everything given to them. They don't think they should have to endure the struggles. But then that's how they forfeit the journey. And just like life itself, the journey is the real reward.
Everything in this show was just too easy. It was easy to kill Jedi, it was easy to bleed the kyber crystal, it was easy to erase Mae's memories, it was easy for Vernestra to lie.
Thanks for the in-depth look at Darth Vader's story around this Meg. The way the comics played that out really makes much more sense for the concept of bleeding a kyber crystal. When I saw this play out on the Acolyte, I thought immediately of the storyline shown in Jedi Survivor with the awakened high republic jedi shown when his lightsaber turns orange red. The Acolyte version felt more like emphasis of Osha's strong turn to the dark side in the moment, but it felt too simple or easy. I find the Darth Vader story much more realistic and meaningful than other versions showing something like this.
I had no issue with it. It was a cool moment. One of them deliberately corrupted the Kyber Crystal, the other one corrupted it inadvertently as her rage and sadness spilled out into the crystal. Both are good, both are fine. Even the bleeding of the Kyber in Jedi Survivor looked kinda different from these two projects. Having slight variation in the way the Kyber Crystals bleed is a good thing, in my opinion. We shouldn't have to just copy the comics. Let the bleeding process be unique from person to person.
My issue with it is your second point. "Inadvertently", in all the examples showed, one has to deliberately corrupt it with your hatred. Even palpatine says to "make" it bleed. That would be a better explanation as to why anakin's lightsaber didnt turn red. It would have been a more emotional scene if she deliberately turns it red, we can better see her pouring in her trauma and hatred for the jedi and Sol. It would also be a great representation of the Sith showing dominance over it and making it bleed.
Perhaps the vergence in the force Sol mentioned was the reason Osha could bleed the crystal? Your explanation of Vader, and the reading of Grand Daddy Palps gave me shivers, and Mustafa, vergence? of Dark side force energy, contributed to Osha’s ability to bleed the crystal. I struggled with the choking as that was a technique for Masters and to have an ex- padawan with 6 years since using the force to pull it off was a bit stretching. Killing Sol, while a surprise, seemed anticlimactic at that point. Of course, the plot required the death for Vanestra’s sake. Coulda, sholda, woulda…Sigh! Great work SW Meg!
Kirak Infil'a was a Jedi from The High Republic era who undertook the Barash Vow for many years, a deep meditative sense that would surely have had his crystal respond to him and the strength of his discipline. Vader is still unbalanced and young, and he undergoes the light side force visions before he bleeds the crystal. I do like it more than Osha's, and I think Ben Solo's is also pretty quickly done (and yet he messes up the crystal and cracks it, pretty symbolic of how the process of shoving down his innate light with the tragedy he added to and was accused of broke him during his dark side fall), but you make barely mention of Jedi Survivor's. Dagan Gera is an emotionally unstable, impatient Jedi who fell to the dark after Tanalorr was invaded by the Nihil and the Jedi Order had him abandon it. It was his project, so you can understand the frustration, but he chose to kill the Jedi to get the remaining Tanalorr compass from his one ally, Santari, who cut his arm off and sealed him in stasis to give him a second chance. In Survivor, he's awakened, whines about Tanalorr, and then bleeds the crystal in 30 seconds! We got far more out of Osha than we ever did with Dagan. For me, it goes Vader > Ben = Osha > Dagan in terms of bleeding being depicted as a result. Dagan was a compelling villain, but he barely gets to show any goodness in him even in the flashbacks, where he's selfish and only listens to Santari because he has some love for her. Far easier to buy Osha's pain flowing out, even if the story to get there was mixed in execution. Sol isn't apologizing to her, he's justifying his actions instead of showing any remorse for making a bad decisions in a complicated situation that was escalating so quickly on all sides. He can't even fully justify it, seeing as he can barely understand how Osha and Mae are the same soul but in two bodies, but he still chose that angle instead of explaining it.
A scene that was Ill conceived, rushed, shallow, simplistic and like much of this show flying in the face of the wider star wars lore, and no amount of mental gymnastics can justify it. It doesn't surprise me anymore how inept Disney have become in their treatment Star Wars. This show was supposed to be about the Sith... unsurprisingly it wasn't. In their attempt to vilify the Jedi they have actually made the Sith look weak. There was no mystery, no fear, no sense of menace, the darkside reduced to something akin to a 'lifestyle choice.'
Remember Ahsoka also did it with a sith Light Saber, she bled it till it turned white… if I’m not mistaken it’s the one in ‘Tales of the Jedi’ episode 6 Resolve, the inquisitor she killed she used his lightsaber!
There are Star Wars fans that have not read everything ever produced. I’ve heard enough to know about bleeding a crystal due to extreme pain and emotion. I thought it was very cool that they showed the crystal starting to change before the Sabre changed later. Y’all take this way too seriously. This was a cool moment that doesn’t need to be killed because a TV show can’t perfectly match the books/comics. I really enjoyed this series.
Vernestra Rwoh killed her padawan, young Qimir, and Darth Plagueis brought him back to life with the Dark Side. But where did he get his red lightsaber? Of which Jedi?
Good video. The haters simply have no idea about star wars. Cool video. Everyone wonders why Osha could make the crystal bleed and Vader couldn't. Well, Anakin was more desperate than hateful. He felt anger, but not like Osha. His hatred for Obiwan was limited. At least he didn't kill his mother. In some scenes you could see Anakin crying as he slaughtered the Separatists. Killing the younglings and Jedi was the only way to save Padme. It also seemed forced rather than natural. During his bloodlust, his crystal was in the lightsaber. That's why he didn't bleed. Anakin was too emotionally unstable and distracted to let the crystal bleed. He hated everything and everyone and didn't know what he was doing. Osha, on the other hand, had a focused hatred that was directed at one person at a time. She was in her right mind, but her disappointment and frustration was more focused than Anakin's, who simply did what Palpatine asked. She did it of her own free will. Besides, Anakin was still unbalanced in the Force. The good was still present in him. You also have to remember that it wasn't her own lightsaber. Also, Qimir hinted that Sol was hiding his dark side. Perhaps the crystal was already under pressure from Sol. The best reason could also be the influence of Qimir and the fact that his lightsaber was damaged by mae and the crystal was exposed so that Osha had direct contact with the crystal. With Anakin it was just more complicated. Details that Star Wars fans tend to overlook. 🙂
The crystal in Sol's light saber started to bleed while Osha was killing him with force choke. I think the act of killing Sol with the force while in possession of Sol's light saber and the fact that she showed no mercy to him and let her rage and hatred consume her in the process of doing so definitely helped the process.
@@carolbriscoe9337 it's just copying off vader. Makes you wonder what they'd have done if vader never used the force choke 🤔 basically lesley wants her characters to be the first to do this sort of thing.
why would she be holding back 16 years of rage? she was crawling through tunnels on her way to the rickety catwalk when Koril's witches were attacking and when her other mom was freaking out and turning herself and Mae into black dust. If anyone deserves her ire, it's the witches who were literally screwing around with her entire life in an unnatural way, if she wants to be mad at someone, be mad at her moms for screwing up her entire life.
Its like she grew up not knowing any of that at all. What rage could she have, Except for her sister who she believed burned the castle down. Stupid plot says it has to happen so it happens.
It could also be interpreted as the lingering part of Anakin within Vader that Vader had to struggle against in order to complete the bleeding. Osha had 16 years of violence, hate, and pain she had been suppressing, and she was confronting the source of that pain. So of course that degree of emotion would cause bleeding that much quicker. If I recall, even Qimir seemed surprised.
I like to think that Vader and Kylo struggled to bleed their crystals in the same way they struggled to remain loyal to the darkside. They were never fully away from the pull to the light. That was why it was so much harder for them to bleed their crystals. Just a theory!
The way they wrote his story that was meant for Vader/Anikan in general cause the Will Of Force needed him to return back to the good person he once was, but he refused cause he can't forgive himself. That's why it makes more sense the reason the writers did his story this way in the comics. Osha's didn't need to be like Vader's/Anikan's way of bleeding the Kyber Crystal cause it didn't need to be. It just had to be done right, and it was all they needed to do. With all the anger and hate she had built up in her all those years, it made sense that she was able to easily do it without noticing that the crystal was exposed. She obviously does show shame for doing it.
The real reason is Sidious wasn't there to bleed Vader's crystal for him and Qimir was there for Osha's. Look @ Qimir. He's concentrating on something.
It’s the saber that killed her mother. When Sol destroys Qimirs saber he uses Trakata to turn off his blade to dodge the block and reignited it. It’s a disgraceful move for a Jedi and even the sith see it as cowardly.
Eh, Dagan Gera did it in a moment as Cal watched, and the Jedi series of games is one of my favorite recent Star Wars stories. I do think it was too easy, but I'm ok with letting it slide because she hit the height of her pain and betrayal just as she was touching the crystal. She "bled" it by accident, which would be a rare thing because you can't really schedule the moment your heart/will is crushed and you fall to the darkside ahead of time. Maybe not the narrative choice I would have made, but it effectively demonstrated "and this was the moment Osha fell to the dark side" very clearly.
I think this works for Dagon because its going the route of dark jedi and not sith. For instance, Dagons crystal would have also gone through all of the same trauma he did during the battle of tanalor. add on top of that being betrayed by the jedi and his master and he and his crystal went through a lot together. So in this instance, the crystal is basically already primed to be bled
I loved seeing Osha bleed Sol's crystal as both a physical & visual representation of her emotional state. I was taken aback with how fast Dagan did it in Jedi: Survivor tbh, but because of how fast it happened, I didn't question the speed of Osha bleeding Sol's crystal as "less than" or "breaking canon".
The entire season we are told Osha and Mae are not normal. They are a conjuring of a possibly dark side coven of witches. Osha was removed from the Jedi order because she is consumed by her rage. Why would it be hard to believe she bled a crestal after finding out someone she trusted has been lying about the subject of rage the whole time. Also all of her dark sided feats being done subconsciously could mean she was designed by the coven to do exactly that(preform dark side thing with easy).
In my opinion the intensity of the bleeding depends entirely on how much pain one has the offer and the amount of inner turmoil they have. Osha's pain is a warm dream compared to all the suffering Vader's been through so it makes since his bleeding would be more intense. It isn't as much about power as it is the amount of pain you're pouring in at a time, and Vader had ALOT of pain. Even in Dagan’s case his bleeding didn’t seem as chaotic as Vader’s or even Ben Solo’s and was even able to it whilst casually trauma dumping on Cal. it seems it can be different for most. Vader and Ben struggled the most because they were both conflicted at the time.
Since Osha never changes expression regardless of what is happening, we never have a lot of understanding or empathy for her as she switches sides from her dead Jedi friends to their killer and then an indifferent sense of rage towards Sol.
Yeah my issue is not really how it happened but just that the show didn’t make me feel or believe that Osha had years of deep rage and anguish. It really felt like she bled a crystal cause she got a bit mad.
I agree it wasn't super well executed, but it does make sense - she idolizes Sol but quit the order because she couldn't suppress her hatred of her sister, only to find out it was Sol who killed her mother. It's all the anger that kept her from being a Jedi, combined with one gigantic moment of betrayal.
@@macehead the show couldn't show us Osha's rage, she was the "good one" for most of the run time. That would have given away the game. Or did they?... At the end, we find out that Mae and Osha are the same individual. I wonder if this means Mae and Osha share emotions, even if they don't know it. Mae's rage is Osha's rage and vice versa. I hate to use this example but kind of like Naruto's shadow clones, the emotions they went through over 16 years that were their own plus those stacked on top by their other half. There's no way I can know this is the case until told otherwise but, I think it makes sense.
@@taylormadealpha yeah I totally get it but you are sort of making my point for me. This was just one of far too many instances where the viewer is tasked with making all of the connections through speculation. If they weren’t able to establish the level of rage to us bc of the storyline then they should have left out bleeding the crystal until the next season or something. Instead they chose to present it in a pretty weak fashion and make us figure out how to justify it. Just bad decision making in my view.
Idk if I found out the guy who's been raising me since my mom died actually killed my mom and didn't tell me about while letting me blame my sister for it I'd be more than just "a bit mad" about it. Didn't need a whole lot of "speculation" to get to that conclusion either.
@@DanyTheMe I would be more than a bit mad as well. Unfortunate that they failed to coney it in a meaningful way in the show. You and I are still left with filling in the blanks as to the true depth of her rage and anger. I’m not saying that the storyline doesn’t warrant her being very angry and disturbed…. I’m saying they did a bad job of getting that across in a believable or meaningful way.
Would it make sense to assume that because she was part of a force dyad that was created by the vergence, which was near them, and she had so much hatred that she just bare-handedly killed the jedi master that raised her, and wanted nothing than to kill Quimir, that there was a lot more to it??? I feel like there are other things that could have boosted the process, that weren't spelled out.
There was also a vergence on Brendok, a vergence that played a huge role in the birthing of Mae and Osha. I could see that a being created by that vergence being so close to that vergence could cause power levels to work differently around it
@@kelevra7711 you're ignoring the whole subtext of Vader as a character. Him struggling with bleeding his crystal is a metaphor for his own internal struggle with his light side aspects. Vader is literally chosen by the force to restore balance and help defeat evil. Osha was made by dark side witches on a planet with unusual force properties, and physically split from her light side aspect. This has nothing to do with power levels and everything to do with alignment.
@@DanyTheMe talking of subtext? Are the witches really Darksiders or just different force users? Osha has never been trained in the dark side and never really showed any affection towards the dark side. That was Mae. Now they switch roles and Osha dips in the dark side for the first time, is able to forcechoke an other forcebeeing while bleeding a kybercrystal without having real sith eyes or doing it intentially? And the internal Conflict between Osha and Mae isnt that differently from Anis/Vaders internal conflict. Imo; the deeper you go in subtext ( Canon/ and Legends, where some stuff is coming from), the less sense it makes.
@@kelevra7711 There's no way to know things about the witches that haven't been shown yet, but hear me out cuz I get what you're saying. I'm saying the witches are dark side aligned, but this doesn't mean I think they're evil. We have people like windu who can channel the dark side without being evil. Let's really look at the twins. Mae was more aggressive as a child, but only out of fear of loosing her loved ones. She joins the sith, but with the secret intention of being able to find her sister. Even after having trained under Quimir we never see her use any dark side abilities. Force push and pull is all that girl ever does. Osha on the other hand is presented as well behaved, however we also see that she has no hesitation to leave her mother and sister behind in search of the things she wants. Her interest in the jedi is never about wanting to help others or a connection to Sol or the light side. It's about her wanting to learn their ways and wielding a lightsaber. Like anakin, she isn't taught the force choke, the ability comes to her in a moment of anger and frustration. Quimir's helmet spoke to her, as we've seen with Vader. If we're talking subtext, a big theme of this show is that jedi aren't above having flaws, and Sith having valid motivations before being fully taken by evil. The misdirection with the twins mirrors those themes. The angry little girl who lashes out at loss doesn't need to succumb to darkness The quiet respectful kid isn't above becoming a monster in their search for fulfillment.
I mean, confusion was a HUGE part of it. Sol was a father figure to her; all of her emotions were pulling an insane U-turn just then. Also, she "accidentally" bled the the saber. There was definitely a moment of "I'm pretty sure this used to be blue" on her face.
Its so easy to add 'bleeding can be made only thought deep meditation, where FU betrays himself(fights himself within)'. And you can make it perfect. Instead of all that lovey-dovey scene at the end you can show how she gets out of trance holding Sol's LS and it changes color, bleeds, and Smylo Ren comes and puts his hand on her shoulder with deep meaningfull look. Its that easy to make bleeding inside the show and make it canon-wise. Instead of changing color when she activates it, LS could simply become unstable, produsing some weird red lightning signifying that it starts bleeding. This would still be closer to canon.
The only question that needs to be asked is, if they have so much material suggesting forming a red kyber Crystal is done one way, why did they just decide to do it differently? They know all of us Star Wars nerds already know how it’s done. It’s almost like they are trying to incite discourse over different details. Just fill in the blanks for fans, and make it awesome. marvel used to do it, and so did Star Wars
The whole Acolyte story is rooted in the fact Brandock has unique Convergence / Power, so why can't that be the reason for the ease by which the crystal was changed.
(edit: I forgot to thank OP, in my rant, for their post it was really good) The thing is, is that George Lucas has explained how Canon is defined. To me by definition, of what he's explained and what is established, the OT, PT, and Clone Wars (animated) was the Canon. Anything, and I mean anything outside the films/motion picture is not Canon, i.e. books, comics, etc. Those are the rules George Lucas set for Legends(EU)/Canon. Legends(EU) had to be approved by him, before it was made into film. This was to prevent contradiction, and inconsistencies with continuity. Because, once it was made into film, it was bona fide. So, with that said: George Lucas did not provide a direct canonical explanation in the Star Wars films or in his own statements about why Sith lightsabers are red [he hadn't approved that yet]. In the Star Wars films and related canon sources, the color of a lightsaber blade typically reflects the Jedi or Sith's connection to the Force and their personal Kyber Crystal. Star Wars Legends (the Expanded Universe {EU}), red lightsaber crystals were synthetic and used by Sith to signify their allegiance to the dark side of the Force. This distinction was carried over into the prequel trilogy, where Sith lightsabers continued to be red, but George Lucas himself did not explicitly state this in the films or in his canonical statements. Therefore, while red lightsabers are associated with Sith, George Lucas's direct canonical explanation for why Sith lightsabers are red is not provided in the Star Wars films or his own statements. Disney-LucasFilm, as deconstructed and retconned what has come before it. The don't use him as an advisor. They have convoluted and or contradicted Canon. They've done this by including their recreated/redefined Legends (EU) into Canon. Meaning the books, comics, devise creators with differentiated concepts, etc. sources outside the films to explain how lightsabers are red. All these new story tellers from the Lucasfilm story team have included some new way or new idea, and call it Canon. But, they can't even agree on which source to use, and just change ideas and or concepts from one creator of the story and or film to another. What we see in the film is not consistent with their own Legends (EU) sources. They also redefined what is Canon, by expanding the definition to (their) books and comics, etc. They have singled handedly broke the continuity of what George Lucas created. This is by far the biggest issue with the fans (Hardcore {as opposed to casual fans}). The way the lightsaber turns red in this way, is by far the laziest way they could've done this, and they did it in Canon. So, now that solidifies how it's done. You don't know how detrimental that is. It's solidified. It's now just a glorified mood ring. If they thought that the films by Rian Johnson divided the fandom, or was divisive ....woah, wait til this sinks in with the Canon hardcore fans, they consider this, "blasphemy." Disney, has not let it sink in yet how a beloved franchise, if the destroyed, will turn on you on masse. But, I think Disney will sink even into lower levels.
The exposed crystal had nothing to do with why it was able to bleed. It was exposed to show the crystal bleed. Normally the crystal is covered so the crack was way to show the audience what was going on. I dont think Osha's turning the crystal red was unearned or easier than Anakin's. The difference was Osha was no longer conflicted. Anakin even after the youngling kills, the death of Padme & his crippling duel with Obi-Wan he is shown in the comics still being pulled by the Lightside. He considers seeking out Obi-Wan and begging for his forgiveness. It is cliche but "From a Certain Point of View " storytelling was part of the difference. What I mean is Anakin grew up in a Jedi Order Era where he saw a lot of justification of actions that were inconsistent with the Jedi code. He saw Peacemakers become Generals that caused massive death & destruction. Those actions gave Anakin a much more grey POV of the Jedi enabling his conflicting. Whereas on the other hand Osha learning the truth about Sol's deception by omission, Sol killing her mother, the cover up and the fact had the Jedi just minded their own business none of the needless death would have occurred. There was nothing redeemable about the Jedi in Osha's mind after learning the truth. She idealized the Jedi and held certain beliefs about their morality then seeing it all seemingly was a lie expedited her turn to the darkside. A jedi can also heal a crystal and restore it to its pre-sith color. The Ahoska novel has a scene at the end where she demonstrates crystal healing.
If the kyber crstal inside Lightsaber is Intune with it's wielder could Sol's doubts and regrets have weaken the crystal before Osha bleed it red. From the show it looks like he has these feelings for all of those years.
Dagan was NOT the same situation as Osha. Dagan bled his own crystal, not another force user’s. Makes sense he’d be able to more easily turn it to his will since it already had a connection to him. Sol’s? If anything, I would think it would be more difficult to turn for Osha since he cared deeply for her. You’d think it would have fought her. Nope. Just took a single touch. Also, Sol’s hilt has to be one of the weakest seen on screen. We’ve seen lightsabers drop from much higher being able to survive. Also never saw the glass panel. Who has glass on their hilt?
I think it's just a simple matter of a less talented writer trying to take ownership of the ideas created by those with much more talent. Just like the force babies, and the pointless cameos by well know characters. She had no good ideas of her own, so she just co opted some pre existing ones. To me, it's the writer's equivalent of being born on third base and thinking you hit a triple.
It did need to be an epic moment. This reveals this series' faults. The core is there, but the details and the story-telling are weak. I've said this several times, but the series needs to be 10-12 episodes with deeper and more developed main characters. It didn't need to be a big mystery. It works better as a linear series with the hubris of the Jedi revealed early to show us why this downfall is tragic for all of the characters involved. Hopefully, if a 2nd season is given the greenlight, then they will consider all of the criticism and take the constructive criticism to make it so much better.
I believe it could have also been because the krystal already had some pain in it thanks to sol, he regretted everything that had happened and saw the consequences of his actions, which caused him inmense pain, then osha finally learned the truth and completed the bleeding. Im not saying that sol turned to the dark side, but that he might have been putting his pain in the krystal or smth.
Because the hilt of Sol's lightsaber was broken exposing the Kyber. Such a simple answer. Just proves people will look for any reason to complain without actually thinking the scenarios through themselves.
Why was Sol’s hilt the weakest we’ve ever seen on screen? Lightsabers have been dropped from much higher and survived just fine. Also, who uses glass on their hilt?
Baby, if you’re going to say that Osha bled it much easier than Vader did because she didn’t go on the same field trip he did, you’re going to need to break apart how every inquisitor, Asajj Ventress, Count Dooku, EVERYONE with a red lightsaber did it. I guarantee you they had their own paths to go through to get their red kyber crystal. As for Osha, she was created from the force vergence that the coven’s base was built on top of. They were standing right on top of it when she bled the crystal.
I guess folks can justify this anyway they want based on whether they liked the Acolyte or not. For me, the writing for this show was so bad and this was just another example of it. There was no real build up of Osha’s long term pain and suffering that led to this moment where it was believable she could do this. The overall writing and character development for Mae and Osha was so bad. They never felt like compelling characters, it was difficult to understand their motivations throughout the entire show, which made it hard to have any real interest in them as an audience.
Following the disaster that was She-Hulk, I think it's safe to say that they will explain it the same way she explains it to the Hulk: because all women have to suppress their rage. So, let's just say that women are just better at focusing it into a Kyber crystal and don't need any of these man-rituals.
Actually I always thought one has to kill a person with full hate in order to turn the lightsaber red. I guess Osha has fullfilled this demand. Maybe there are different versions told in the stories. And it is good they did not make one more boring episode 7 out of it. And it showed the viewer - even she still lookes nice and shocked about what she just has done - she has turned already to the dark side. I liked this turn of event.
I liked it. It was TV and not a Motion Picture. It was not as good as Andor but I super enjoyed it. I appreciate the content I get from Disney. And from SWM.
When Sol destroys Qimirs saber he uses Trakata to turn off his blade to dodge the block and reignited it. It’s a disgraceful move for a Jedi and even the sith see it as cowardly.
She was directly touching the crystal while killing Sol. Anakin wasn’t, you have to directly interact with the crystal using the darkside of the force.
This is a good in universe explanation. Simple and to the point. Someone will try to do mental gymnastics to prove that this moment is the end of all things and you're coping but neither of those things are true. It's proof that if you stop and think for a second, there are in universe ways that Osha bleeding her kyber in that moment makes sense.
@@taylormadealpha Exactly, and on top of that, earlier in the episode we saw her "invade" Qimir's mind, which demonstrated just how powerful she is. A being that powerful, unleashing 16 years of pain and anger in one moment while killing her former master and bleeding the crystal at the same time makes perfect sense. Especially since I have some measure of experience with "unleashing all my pain and rage in one moment". I dealt with serious childhood trauma growing up, from many different directions. It got to the point when someone would physically attack me, it all came flooding out at once and I would lay waste to the attacker. The worst part for me, is that I couldn't remember it right after it happened. It was like I was possessed by some kind of demon. It would often take days before my memories would return. Needless to say, this kind of thing caused me to do whatever it took to avoid fights. But sometimes, you have no choice in the matter. And yes, it's a miracle that I never got arrested over those incidents. I was lucky enough to have friends who would get me away from the scene, even though it was technically self defense. Also, cameras weren't everywhere back in the 90s.
@@MrNeohacker I'm not sure if we can say this yet. Perhaps if Mae and Osha operate as the one being they're supposed to be. I'm not even sure if they can be called a dyad because they're actually the same individual. What's clear is that Osha is very powerful, I'm just not sure she can do things like control the Mortis gods, the Son and the Daughter, at the same time. Now, is she more powerful than "more machine than man" Vader? Man, I still don't know. I really want to see more Qimir, Osha and Mae so we can really see what these girls can really do. I might have missed something though so let me know.
@@MrNeohacker I wouldn’t say that. Vader had no connection to the crystal, it was from a Jedi he didn’t know. It actively resisted him and the lightside of the force gave him a vision to try to turn him back. Vader refused the vision and bent the crystal to his will. That to me shows he’s far more powerful than Osha.
I'll do you one better. Anakin was a Jedi for HOW long? A Clone Wars General that saved HOW many people? I believe he had genuine love for Padme AND Obi-Wan, but especially Padme. When he choked her out, his glaring emotion wasn't rage or fear or pain, it was greed. Even when he killed the younglings, those emotions didn't exist...he knew they had no shot...narcissism was becoming prevalent in his demeanor, and wasn't allowing the pain, rage, and fear to manifest strong enough to bleed that crystal in the prequels. Osha, by contrast, tells Mae, that her hatred for her combined with the grief of her mother dying, which was tied to thinking Mae was responsible, PREVENTED her from becoming a Jedi. And, like you said, 16 years of hatred festering within her, now compounded by more hatred towards Mae because it prevented her from her dream, the instant transition from hating her sister to hating her master even more, if that was possible, was portrayed awesomely on screen. I loved every second of Osha approaching Sol, anger coming to a boil, whispering, "Stop talking", then Force choking him to death...fantastic! Now, for a simpler explanation: The prequels did stuff more awesomely than the originals, and as time goes on and technology gets better, even more awesome stuff is going to continue to happen that was impossible back in the day. Thinking back to the Mortis arc, Anakin, when pressed, soundly defeated both the son and the daughter. If he had balance that rivaled the father, then he needed pushes to create the emotions needed to bleed a crystal. Plus, that crystal he bled belonged to a very powerful Jedi. I'm rambling now, lol. Episode 8 of The Acolyte was incredible.
She was holding back 16 years of rage. So what was Anakin doing those 21 years, where he endured slavery, abuse, discrimination, the death of his mother, the slaughtering of tusken raiders, giving into his hatred to kill Count Dooku, being an accessory to the death of Mace Windu, murdering dozens of his fellow Jedi and slaughtering younglings, choking his wife to near death out of fury and fighting his former master to the death? Everything was just hunky dory in the mind of young Ani. Overall, I don't think it's that huge of a deal. It's just the fact that the Acolyte is the one changing SW lore. SW lore has been anything but consistent, but the fact that a show that is as laughably bad as the Acolyte is the one responsible for the lore changes, people are obviously not happy about that. If this happened in, say, Season 2 of Kenobi, it'd likely be more well received. It also just doesn't hit, because the idea that a kyber crystal bleeding being a long and arduous task is more satisfying, whereas this treats it more like a mood ring.
It was cool they tried to show the concept but the execution was poor. There wasn’t even a directed focus of attention on the crystal. No explanation could relay how “by proxy” she was able to bleed a crystal.
I remember Adi Gallia had a red lightsaber in Jedi Power Battles on the PS1. Thinking about it, Plo Koon had a gold one. Obvs not cannon but it was pretty cool at the time. 😁
What you read in the comics sounds the same as what Osha went through. It's just she only needed one attempt to get there and it's hard to portray the depth of her emotion on screen. Some quick memory flashbacks might have helped
It’s hard to like the way it was done, something the chosen one struggled to do was done so easily. The acolyte is loaded with cool concepts but none executed properly. I’m sad it’s cannon and rather choose to ignore its existence. More into dune now
The problem is deeper…the canon was established by Vader already and it was a massive battle. Anakin had a significantly larger amount of punishment than we saw Osha have. It’s BS that she did it in 5 seconds and her face doesn’t change at all. It’s super lame.
This isn't saying Osha was stronger or more tormented than Vader. Vader was made by the force to bring balance. He struggled with his light side aspects all the way to the end. His struggle to bleed his crystal represents that. Osha literally had her light side aspects removed and made into a separate person at birth.
they thought it looked cool, damn the lore. thats about as deep as it goes, and like a lot of stuff in the show it ends up being incredibly disappointing and shallow, and just dumb. Like they literally have examples to work from that have weight and emotion and just ignored them. It also once again makes it seem like osha is ridiculously powerful out of literally nowhere. Thats also why its so hard to get invested in much of the star wars universe anymore, theyre breaking lore that DISNEY made.
There is an easy explanation for this with the lightsaber. It turn red when Osha held it for a visual effect, or an "epic scene", nothing else. We should not forget that Leslye likes Rian's work. And he did pointless "epic scenes" all over TLJ. To bleed them you need to at least mean to do it and have the dark force.
Isn't this the case for any movie or TV show ever made? What happens in them is because some creator created it. So yes, someone came up with the idea and then someone wrote the script for the episode.
@@impactsuit9871 so you're saying she rewrote the rules? Is that what this is? How'd she do that? Or are you saying exactly what I said; creatives involved in a project create it or "say so". Kind of like how George introduced midichlorians into the verse because he thought it was a good idea.
No. I wouldn’t give these guys anymore credit. I personally think this show hurt the cannon and was below the standards of Star Wars story telling. Episodes would have been so much better with Bette character development and detail. This would require the episodes to be an extra 15 min long to be effective. Anyways the Acolyte was sun par and I must say Rebel Moon was more Star Wars than this. I would be very surprised if there is a second season. Star Wars needs to knock it out of the park for what comes next or the slippery slope of failed exceptions will take effect. Especially on Disney stock price. That’s how I see it.
Or maybe she was able to bleed the crystal because she’s powerful in the force, was created by the force, and on a freaking planet that was imbued with the force Let alone the fact that she just murdered her father figure while using the force Accept the symbolism of the moment
While I mostly liked the show, this was pretty lame. Maybe Amandla just isn't that good of an actress or Osha being born of a vergence in the Force made it easier for her. Still, if it was that difficult for Vader, the Chosen One, then it shouldn't have been that easy for Osha.
I can save you all 8 minutes. Bleeding Kyber Chrystals Is a Disney invention. This rule didn't exist when episodes 1-6 were written... there you go. Saved you 8 minutes of head cannon to justify a connection when there simply isn't one.
Obviously, Headland never read any of the Star Wars books, or comics. Nothing about this series made any logical sense. I'm not a big Darkside fan but this was not what it should have been.
I want to know who the Sith Lord is that has been hiding in the woods thru the end of Acolyte in season one. Is it Darth Malgus? Is that who trained the little china man that ive yet to learn the name of, who trained Mae? They say that Siths come in 2s. Never more, never less. If Mae and Osha are truly turning than that means we have 4 sith here.
Because at the time, George didn't think about a lightsaber bleeding
He established what made crystals different colours. Bleeding came later. You are kinda right.
He also decided against giving a red saber because it would be hard to distinguish during his fight against Obi-Wan on Mustafar.
The real reason? Because bleeding kyber wasn't a thing when Revenge of the Sith came out.
Always 6 there are, no more, no less.
which is even more of a reason why it shouldnt have happened with osha.
@@DanyTheMe If Osha's light side was split off into a different person at birth, how is it that they were exactly the same consciousness?
Because Disney messed up the lore that’s why
Everything in this show was just too easy. It was easy to kill Jedi, it was easy to bleed the kyber crystal, it was easy to erase Mae's memories, it was easy for Vernestra to lie.
Super easy, barely an inconvenience
Lol i cant wait for his vid@hotfroganimations
Yup. Disneyfied to the max.
The guy who killed the jedi was literally Plagueis's apprentice.
You really expect him to have trouble taking out a few middle tier jedi?
@@DanyTheMewas he his apprentice?
Bad writing should never be defended. Ever.
star wars as a whole is bad writing
Excited to see you lil podcast with heavyspoliers. I have had some of my fav coverage of this show and seeing yall talk will be cool
He was a Jedi or at least a padawan. I assumed he just used his own crystal.
Lightsabre breaks easily when they can take a harder beating. Crystal conveniently sticks out and touches her hand
I don't recall knowing how long she was a padawan at the Temple, but just how was she able to force choke a Master?
@@carolbriscoe9337 it's just copying off vader. Makes you wonder what they'd have done if vader never used the force choke 🤔 basically lesley wants her characters to be the first to do this sort of thing.
These people care more about SW lore than the real world as it crumbles around them.
why would she be holding back 16 years of rage? she was crawling through tunnels on her way to the rickety catwalk when Koril's witches were attacking and when her other mom was freaking out and turning herself and Mae into black dust. If anyone deserves her ire, it's the witches who were literally screwing around with her entire life in an unnatural way, if she wants to be mad at someone, be mad at her moms for screwing up her entire life.
seriously
Its like she grew up not knowing any of that at all. What rage could she have, Except for her sister who she believed burned the castle down. Stupid plot says it has to happen so it happens.
It’s this thing called point of view.
That was what I was thinking. Over and over we heard from many characters, "there still good in him".
Nope just a way of coping. Star wars died a long time ago ❤
@@alexanderdumas-I had similar reasoning as well.
Their was more connection then. Less dogma. More possibilities than just blue, green, red. Mace windu's purple was a gift, he didn't turn it purple.
correct me if im wrong but I thought bleeding a crystal had to be intentional through some form of meditation?
The Kyber crystal should of changed when the force was changed not by touch by FREQUENCY
Dagan bled his own crystal. He already had a connection to it.
I could see that a being created by that vergence being so close to that vergence could cause power levels to work differently around it
And the one created by the force itself almost died bleeding a crystal?
@@kelevra7711 That is a fair point
@@kelevra7711 you're ignoring the whole subtext of Vader as a character. Him struggling with bleeding his crystal is a metaphor for his own internal struggle with his light side aspects.
Vader is literally chosen by the force to restore balance and help defeat evil.
Osha was made by dark side witches on a planet with unusual force properties, and physically split from her light side aspect. This has nothing to do with power levels and everything to do with alignment.
@@DanyTheMe talking of subtext? Are the witches really Darksiders or just different force users? Imo; the deeper you go in subtext ( Canon/ and Legends, where some stuff is coming from), the less sense it makes.
@@kelevra7711
There's no way to know things about the witches that haven't been shown yet, but hear me out cuz I get what you're saying.
The angry little girl who lashes out at loss doesn't need to succumb to darkness
The quiet respectful kid isn't above becoming a monster in their search for fulfillment.
yes.. look at the unbridled confusion...sorry Anger and pain that she is pouring out on the screen during the moment.
Because of diversity, equity and inclusion.
We wouldn’t be able to see a red lightsaber very well against a lava background if they did this in ROTS. Same reason Luke had a green one in ROTJ.
Luke has a blue saber in A New Hope, that’s the only reason it’s blue in Revenge of the Sith.
It was like a mood ring lol 😅
The real reason: Anything that Disney does to Star Wars is just fan fiction
Anakins was meant to change to red in episode 3. Lots of toys and merch were launched with red sabers. For whatever reason, Lucas left it out.
Thanks Meg! 🙏🏼
The funny thing is vader had gloves on so the excuse osha needed to touch the krystal doesn't add up.
Simple Anakin didn't put his hate in it he was way too busy killing jedi lol.
Bruh, Luke has a blue saber in A New Hope, that’s the only reason it’s blue in Revenge of the Sith.
The REAL Osha’s crystal bled was that if you look she’s actually touching the crystal thru the broken hilt. Anakin never touched his crystal.
Enjoyed Acolyte and your show Meg ❤
A) It wasn't a lore thing at the time. B) Anakin was, most likely, not concentrating on his crystal.
Luke has a blue saber in A New Hope, that’s the only reason it’s blue in Revenge of the Sith.
And Osha might be more powerful than Vader.
Now, for a simpler explanation:
The prequels did stuff more awesomely than the originals, and as time goes on and technology gets better, even more awesome stuff is going to continue to happen that was impossible back in the day.
Some people legitimately didn't like it. Some felt the need to gatekeep Legends and Old Republic characters that many fans weren't aware of
It was cool they tried to show the concept but the execution was poor. There wasn’t even a directed focus of attention on the crystal. No explanation could relay how “by proxy” she was able to bleed a crystal.
I'm commenting before watching the Video...I'd say because Anakin had a real writer writing the script...
I remember Adi Gallia had a red lightsaber in Jedi Power Battles on the PS1. Thinking about it, Plo Koon had a gold one.
Obvs not cannon but it was pretty cool at the time. 😁
Is it real or is it Memorex?
I think the arduous trial to bleed a crystal would have been great!, but what do I know!!!
She’s literally holding the weapon that killed her mother.
Bleeding a kyber crystal is cool when they have to feel pain in return not mid battle that is stupid
It turned red because that's what Leslye Headland wanted because she thought it would be cool. It was lazily done.
You mean Disney canon and in my opinion that’s not canon !!
Possible it bleed as easily due to the combination of Sol’s pain as well
All is as the force wills it
What you read in the comics sounds the same as what Osha went through.
The real reason Disney can't do dark & should stay away from the Sith. It makes Mickey unhappy.
It was a great series. Haters will hate.
I just do not like this new idea of making a red crystal just for a cheap visual affect.
Osha's is STRONGER than Vader THTS WHY! 😂
The power of one, the power of two, THE POWER OF MANY!!!
The reason is because Lesley said so.
100%
Isn't this the case for any movie or TV show ever made? What happens in them is because some creator created it. So yes, someone came up with the idea and then someone wrote the script for the episode.
@taylormadealpha it's not because it's a fictional universe that the writer is allowed to write and rewrite the rules as he pleases.
Or maybe she was able to bleed the crystal because she’s powerful in the force, was created by the force, and on a freaking planet that was imbued with the force
Let alone the fact that she just murdered her father figure while using the force
Accept the symbolism of the moment
While I mostly liked the show, this was pretty lame. Maybe Amandla just isn't that good of an actress or Osha being born of a vergence in the Force made it easier for her. Still, if it was that difficult for Vader, the Chosen One, then it shouldn't have been that easy for Osha.
I can save you all 8 minutes. Bleeding Kyber Chrystals Is a Disney invention. This rule didn't exist when episodes 1-6 were written... there you go. Saved you 8 minutes of head cannon to justify a connection when there simply isn't one.
The lightsaber changing color was cartoony.
They turn everything so it fit the Story 🙄
Seems cheesy. But whatever, please God no season 2 of this crap.
It was awful. Haha.
I have no problem with it.
because crystal bleeding didn't exist in 2005
