I used to live in Guelph (4 years as a Bachelor student). The Albion Hotel used to be the coolest bar and dance floor! So many memories. I am happy to see a number of the buildings having been renovated and the downtown looking so lively!
Nice tour! Guelph is less of a bedroom community and more a university town (U of G and Ontario Veterinary College) crossed with manufacturing workforce.
Guelph is above all a university and agricultural (research and training) town. U of G is one of the few colleges in Canada that has a veterinary medicine program.

Guelph has been notably influenced by the "Strong Towns" movement, and is now pursuing downtown densification rather than sprawling out more suburbs. The University is well regarded for its agricultural research. There is a lot of old architecture which they have been smart enough to preserve, most of which uses the region's abundant limestone. It's surrounded by little "conservation area" parks that are not super spectacular, but really nice.

Nice to see smaller cities from another's eyes. Unless local, it wouldn't be something I'd spend thousands on to travel and be there for a week in a hotel. Guelph reminds me of Winnipeg with how open the views are, looks like flat land. Your Montreal airport video however made it super easy to land and head straight to our hotel without delay. Wish I could have bumped into then.
You should have gone into the old Quebec street mall. Coco latte was one of my favourite places to study cause it had cozy vibes. 😂 there’s also some other neat stores to check out as well.
Welcome to my Royal City. It is MacDonnell street, lol. We have more tall apartment buildings now. We have many student apartments down on Gordon street. That go-train goes to Kitchener, where it reverses back through Guelph to Toronto Union.
The only disappointment is the LACK OF CANADIAN flags!!!!😮. Love the old buildings. St Agnes school next to the church. ⛪️. Hope they don’t tear that down. These buildings bring Canadians to their history. Also no one would know your in Canada. So hope the City bring more Canadian flags🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
@@mapledripcomics Its overblown, Its the same everywhere in Canada. It just so happens that Guelph is such a small city, so it seems more present, or common. But in reality its because there are less places to go. Compare it to a big city like Toronto, it seems worse, because in Toronto, it is all very spread out. I have lived in a lot of cities, and I've noticed that all smaller towns seem to really think they have it the worst, but its all perspective, and a lot of people aren't used to the population increase outside of larger cities which inevitably creates more issues.
In all fairness though, Guelph is far from a 'typical' Canadian town. It is probably one of the 'nicest' small town (English) places to have a small town experience, with maybe one of the best comparables being Kingston (Windsor-Quebec corridor, Uni Town, Historic, decent $$, etc). Not 'fancy' for sure, but should be called out that this is pretty much the creme of the crop for small town living in Canada (with prices to follow that). Enjoyed the video

So it is absolutely a small Canadian town, but rather it isn’t particularly representative in QoL (in the same way that say living in Plateau in MTL is definitely a Montreal experience but not exactly representative of most neighborhoods’ lived experience)
@@EthanLomas It has no subdivision style housing -- at least around the university. There are no large superstore strip malls (but there are small malls). The residential area around the Church is nice, but what it is really lacking is a biking infrastructure, because they are just cars everywhere, and very municipal little green space in the downtown. If you look at downtown area in the video, you rarely see a large tree, which is very uncomfortable in the hot summer. The university is really a separate enclave, whereas in Montreal, they are right in town with students walking around more.
Its nice to have a nice place to go but trying to get into or around the city is terrible.. The Hanlon expressway is a parkway where one has to deal with a slue of traffic lights which are not timed so it sucks. Been that way forever since Guelph council decided to not install overpasses or underpasses back when it was built.. Terrible decision
It's the biggest joke of a "highway" every built. It's pointless during rush hours. Because of the lights on EVERY intersection, traffic gets so backed up when you get off work that you'll be waiting in line at a red light, it'll turn green, then turn back red before you and some cars ahead of you can even get up to it, so you have to wait through TWO red lights just to get through one intersection, in a SMALLER sized city! Our city has ALWAYS been run by clowns though, EVEN OUR NAME WAS A MISTAKE lol it was never even supposed to be called Guelph, that's how STUPID the people are since it's INCEPTION LOL!
