  • My first experience flying with Porter Airlines, from Toronto to Montreal. I show the Porter wifi, food and drink options, leg room, boarding process and more. All opinions are my own.

My partner and I recently tried Porter for the first time on Vancouver-Montreal return in Porter Reserve. We normally fly premium economy with Air Canada, and for the price we were very impressed with our Porter experience. Based on our experience, Porter is our new first choice on routes they serve from Vancouver.

Porter isn't a budget airline, it's actually the polar opposite. They offer a premium experience, even to those in regular economy. Bigger Airlines such as Air Canada and WestJet just utilize their monopolies to make flights overpriced.

Air Canada and WestJet got way too greedy! They both charge way more and give the customers way less than Porter!!! Monopolies in every industry are destroying Canada and ripping off Canadians, it's so nice to see some competition in Canadian aviation!!!
My round trip from the west coast to Montreal was 600 cheaper than Air Canada (not even a seat sale) and a significantly better experience!
Porter proves that Air Canada and WestJet are just greedy and charge way more than they need to because for so long they didn't have any competition so they could get away with ripping people off!

I’d say premium as well - don’t consider Porter a “budget” airline. Some of the routes are not that cheap! Friends who have flown on Porter love it! I hope to travel soon on Porter! It’s definitely not a Ryan Air - thankfully!! Not a fan of aRyan Air!! Free wifi is great!! Flights are dehydrating enough so I rarely drink on a flight.

Air Canada wanted to put us on stand by each time we went to TO, and once they asked for people to volunteer their bags for check in, which defeats the point of carry on. Air Canada also put us in seperate seats.
Porter, however, seated us together each time and no mention of stand by. I do wish they would just give out an actual can of pop instead of half. Also, the small shortbread cookie was nothing but a tease. Over all, I'd fly Porter again.

Air Canada are sleazy and greedy, they over charge everyone and then they treat their customers and staff like garbage, flying with air Canada is always a degrading experience, they way over book every single flight which extremely disrespectful to flyers and ruins people's limited time off, they don't care if the ruin your vacation.

Nice review. I haven't flown Porter yet, but I do like the 2+2 rather than the obnoxious 737 3+3 seat layout. It is nice to have additional options for carriers, but increased competition doesn't mean better. Look at the USA-more competition, but all of the airlines suck bigtime.

We have made two trips to Montreal from Halifax since Sept. 2022 using Porter and have always had a great experience. We are travelling back up to Montreal in early November again for a vacation and going to be going via Porter both ways. Any suggestions on things to do in Montreal in first week of November and generally what to expect for weather while we are there? Definitely enjoy your videos.

I have had past issues with A/C changing flights, changing aircraft type and delaying flights. But did get to my destination in time. My concern with Porter is the fact that there may not be an alternative flight on the particular day you booked if there is a cancellation. This is a concern when you must get there that day. For eg. I have a flight booked to Tampa and there are 2 Porter flights, 7am and 9pm, A/C has several on the same January day. Who do you put your trust in? I actually have a refundable flight booked on both and can’t decide. Which one to keep or cancel.

I flew them for the first time when I went to Vancouver it was a packed flight when I took them I can see why it’s a popular airline, but it’s the best 10/10, free wifi and snacks, I wouldn’t say it’s a low budget airline like flair, I would say it’s a medium budget airline like westjet

I flew to Halifax recently . we were a few people with horrible ears pain to complain and ask what caused this . the lady steward .kind of felt bored to be asked this and almost throw us out of the plain kindly ignoring and pushing us gently with her hand in the door direction . it's not the first time I have this kind of interaction on this airline .maybe it's bad luck but multiple times .the company should think again about how to welcome people and how say good byes without the fake face .
next time I ll try to avoid . I don't want to see these stewards again

Best in Canada? Hardly. AC offers free beer wine and snacks to everyone so before knocking our Flag Carrier best to check your facts first. Also look into flying Porter to Australia, South America, Africa, Asia and India. Think big and start collecting valuable Aeroplan points and see the world. Don’t be bought by a couple of cookies in a plastic bag.

    • @thoughtsontravelandlife

I haven't received anything more than stale pretzels on air canada flights since I can remember. When I did a google search on free drinks, it appears that you are right but that this is a new initiative to compete with Porter :
"Good news! Air Canada now offers economy-class passengers free beer, wine, and snacks on domestic and transborder (USA) flights. This has been prompted by the fact Porter, a smaller premium Canadian airline, has been growing fast precisely on domestic and transborder routes… and has always offered free beer, wine, and snacks in economy. "
As for international flights, when I flew down to Costa Rica on Air Canada, they lost my bag and I had to wait 2 hours to speak to an attendant to file a missing bag report. This is because none of the Air Canada staff were working at the airport help desk.
When I finally got someone, I was so annoyed that I asked him how he could work for a company that loses bags and then doesn't even have staff around to file a claim. The employee told me in a moment of honestly that Latin America is severely understaffed by AC and that he is also so frustrated by the issues that he is seeking employment with another airline. True story.
So no, I haven't been bought off by snacks. I've travelled my entire life and had mediocre to bad experiences with Air Canada time and time again.
