High Crime Surrounds Louisville's Popular Venues

- Both the University of Louisville and Churchill Downs are Louisville, Kentucky's pride and joy. Louisville Cardinal football and basketball have a strong loyal fan base, and Churchill Downs is home to the famed Kentucky Derby. Both U of L and Churchill Downs are located in the south part of town pretty close to each other. Also in this part of town is the Kentucky Expo Center, where the Kentucky State Fair is held. You also have several other large events that come through town that set up shop at the Kentucky Expo Center. On top of all of that, you have Kentucky Kingdom in this part of town, which is a large theme park and attraction for the region. In this video I show all of those places, along with the surrounding neighborhoods.

I grew up not far from this area. I moved out of state many years ago. Stay away from the area behind Churchill Downs. Berry Blvd, Taylor Blvd, Dixie Hwy, Cane Run, Algonquin and any areas west of that. BTW - UofL fan for life!

Chris, I cannot thank you enough for this video. I am a new hire at the University of Louisville and my job is to drive from building to building on the campus picking up students. I lived down there in the 90s when I was young, it was worse back then, I could never play out in the street and couldn't leave the avenue we live on because it was so unsafe. It has a lot of "make-up" put on the area but still not very safe
I work with horses on the backside / stable area - the neighborhood has gotten considerably worse in the last 20 yrs + damn shame -
the VFW you passed just before the stable yard on the right is where a lot of us racetrackers go get a beer -

What gave the southend its nortorious label, was citi officials and the need to clear downtown of thugs, they moved them all to the southend and now they all complain about it.

Ah U of L of which I'm an alumnus. Oh well, it had a huge student body of 6,500. But that was before it changed to a state school, university. A number of schools had to do that, back then because of $$$$. I've been to the "races" twice. That was in the infield when that area was free. I'd never pay to see it though. Also, you didn't mention that that race is the first of the Triple Crown.

My home was featured in this tour he gave of the southend and the horrible things he said about it, made me chuckle....because he commented on the Manslick apartments as being a cool place to live....of course this was made in 2021 when Covid cleared the streets, but it was a hoot. One thing I noticed in all his touring of Louisville, if it had blacks walking around it was the hood???? LOLOL As much as I talk bad about Louisville, our hoods are majestic compared to the real hoods you see in other areas around the country.

I’m trying to decide which university to attend and this one doesn’t look ideal...
I’m a mouth breather but I don’t answer to “low life” . Unfortunately I have a deviated septum. It’s hard enough to breathe without a mask but some places require masks and I make every effort to stay away from those places. I tried having surgery years ago but it wasn’t successful. I still have problems breathing through my nose.
