    you’re completely right when you said you thought there was a backing band behind the screens! taylor always tours with a live band and includes them for a segment of the show (in this tour we see them in the style/love story/you belong with me medley). she also has a group of backup singers called the Starlights who’ve been with her for years!

    She commands the Eras stage, which is twice as big, by herself and it’s mind blowing. You see the warm up acts out there and they look so small and uncomfortable filling the space and moving up/down the stage. Taylor does it seamlessly.

    Don't Blame Me on this tour is elevated so far above the recorded track it's almost a different song, and that goes doubly for I Did Something Bad

    One of her best Reputation performances is "I Did Something Bad" but in the song it is "They say I did something bad." Speak Now live "Haunted" the performance is spectacular.

    The beginning portion was created using actual statements made by multiple tabloid reporters, to whom she invited and arranged front row seating to the show… no one does petty quite like Taylor!!

      I wish people would stop spreading this rumor like it’s fact. It’s not. She literally uses Shane Dawson audio in that and he was absolutely never invited. Plus she would have to know which cities to invite every clip used to. It’s just not true.

      Too funny. 😂😂😂
      You’re like a Queen of getting Taylor onto so many different reaction channels. You’re doing the Lord’s work on here. 🙇🏼‍♀️

    I think it says a lot about you that you can see this and not be a fan of the particular style of music, but you are able to put that aside and appreciate just how impressive it is.

    Taylor sings live 100% of the time, but she does also have 4 amazing backup vocalists and a full band who also sing backup, and they do use backing tracks to elevate the ambience of some bigger chorses, but she does sing live 100% on top of those. She is also a master at blending her voice with her backup vocalists and the tracks during big choruses, which many other artists are not, which is why some people thought she didn´t sing live during the big choruses. But at the Eras Tour you could hear her live raw voice the whole time, and therefore her mistakes too. Even during the live streams of the Eras Tour her raw voice the entire show(and the different cracks and the mistakes from different shows) As a vocal coach I could easily hear her and each of her backup vocalist´s raw voices clearly behind the songs with tracks too.
    Now, I would not blame her if she had chosen to not sing live the entire time especially during the 3h 15 min of the Eras tour, but I went and she did the whole time, which was impressive. I went 2 times and she sounded even better the second one, the first one her voice was a bit tired, but eventhough she had a few cracks that night she still sounded amazing, I love her little voice cracks when they happen and those things just makes the live experience even better. She has always sounded great live, but she has great vocal technique these days.

      @emmavink 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      She doesn't sing live at all on two songs at least on the Eras tour 😬
      But those are both 1989 tracks with HUGE stage production & choreography and she's obviously performed those songs live many, many, many times in her career.
      I think it's the only way she could have managed the length of the Eras Tour concerts.
      And obviously also, as Mark pointed out here, she does it strategically so that she is able to do the big belting sequences on songs like Don't Blame Me and so that she still has a voice for the acoustic and stripped songs sets for each concert.

    • @annettah71
      @annettah71 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @emmavink before rhe Eras tour, she sang her entire set while running on a treadmill to build up her stamina, her breathing and vocals while moving. It's insane that she can go for three hours but she did it after a lot of hard work. I think they said she did that for 6 months prior to the tour.

    • @emmavink
      @emmavink 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @annettah71 just like every other fan, I've read all of that before too. It has still been scientifically proven with completely reliable technology and scientific methodology that she didn't sing at least 2 songs from the 1989 set live or with a live mic at all on the Eras Tour.
      You can rage against this all you want to.
      I think it's incredibly naive and problematic bordering on toxic to ignore scientific proof of something COMPLETELY understandable.
      I can completely understand and accept that she did all that training to be able to do all the music she had never toured before live as much as possible and dance and move around as much as she did.
      If she had sung every single song live on this tour, she'd have developed vocal nodes and have needed surgery by this point.
      Just like what has happened to vocalists like Adele and Miley Cyrus, both LONG before they were 30 years old.

    Reputation is my favourite album, I think because of all the shit she took at that time, plus she was at the start of a relationship, the lyrics in those songs I feel I’m my bones ! I cant wait for Taylor’s version, and I hope new vault tracks

    You’re so funny. “I’d probably make a few self-deprecating jokes and shuffle off the stage”. I missed your live stream yesterday and I’m so bummed about it. I had it on my calendar and still didn’t make it. It was 7pm my time and was trying to get everything sorted so I could watch and enjoy. I hope that everyone had a great time! I’m just going to have to go back on my word and finally join a Patreon. Yours would be worth it. Love your honesty and ability to still see the good parts of something even though it’s not your “cup of tea”. ☕️

    She has her band (The Agency, or the Swift Agency -- 7 or 8 people) as well as her 4 backup singers (added for the Red Tour in 2013, called The Starlights). So, call it 2 lead guitarists, a utility mandolin/guitar/banjo/keyboard player, 2 keyboards, drums, bass. Band sits a full story above the stage, above the dance area. You get a good look at where they are when she goes up there during Bad Blood. She has a half dozen female, and maybe 10 male dancers, and also aerialists. I don't think she bothers with backing tracks much. All of them have been with her for years; 4 from her first tour, the rest since her 1989 tour in 2015. Some are replacing country musicians who left after the 2013 Red Tour (she didn't need a violinist or slide guitarist for the pop).
    I am not a fan of the editing; but the poster had to figure out how to get most of the show online without getting a copyright strike from Netflix or her old label. So, crop the image, substitute fan footage, or zoom in on the monitors --- they have to change it enough to get by. The film was recorded in Arlington Texas over two nights (50th and 51st show) before she went to Australia, Japan, then to Europe. I sort of hate that Taylor (or her label) only licensed the films for 1989 World Tour and Reputation Stadium Tour for 5 years; I am pretty sure she'll never renew the licenses because the old label would get royalties for it. She had left Big Machine Records before the Apple Music exclusive on 1989 tour was up in 2020; after the fight about her masters, we're not likely to see the originals again. And, they got most of it and preserved most of the feel of it. Kudos to them for it!

    So remember the lyric in Who's Afraid of Little Old Me, "If you wanted me dead, you should have just said. Nothing makes me feel more alive" 😎😎😎
    That's how she's pulled herself through every crisis, I think. She is the Queen of Petty...but in the best way.
    I think it's also that incredible work ethic we saw in the beginning of Miss Americana. She didn't get any significant Grammy jominations for this album, Reputation, and her first response was to make a better album next time.
    Reputation itself was also her "fk you" to the industry and the haters. She may not have won awards... but the tour and its filmed special that was on Netflix for ages, along with the music videos for this album was HUGE.
    And she gained a number of new fans on it too by taking on new genres yet again. The album has a decent blend of hip hip, R&B, gospel and even some soft rock influence.
    I think you did also react to the Rep Tour performance of Don't Blame Me early on in your reactions?
    They said she can't sing and she was like..."oh, ok... I'll write a goth gospel track and we'll see about that then" 😂

    Her concerts and Tours have always shown theatrical Taylor and solo Taylor with a guitar or piano . I think her commitment to live music with her band and singers makes her appear determinedly old school connecting to an American tradition of popular song while being contemporary in most other aspects.

    I don’t really love this song either but I have to tell you that when she took the stage looking like this crazy ninja with the bass pumping in a massive stadium, it blew my mind a little. Her last pre-show song right before this was Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation”. It’s hard to really see how massive the stage and the back screen was. The band was up on the second level somewhere several stories high. Then there was the fireworks, the pyro, the steam. I’ve really never been so hyped at a show. The Eras tour was fun but this one ruled!

    There’s been a lot of controversy in some corners of TH-cam and the internet as a whole about Taylor’s use of backing tracks and other aids she might use to achieve the sound we got during Eras and her performances in general. I’m totally with you on your assessment. I think she gives plenty and adds as much authenticity as possible while also serving a great show. People enjoy her singing, but don’t come to her primarily for the vocals. She’s got plenty of other interesting sides to her. If anything, I’m always fond of your critical assessment while still giving her credit where it’s due. This kinda nuance is kinda lost on both sides (critics vs fanatics) most of the time.

    • @emmavink
      @emmavink 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Exactly. And you are so right. There is no nuance or common sense from either Swift haters or unreasonable/sometimes just full on toxic Swifties on these issues 🙄
      I'd rather have her save her voice on bombastic pop numbers so that she can flex her vocals a bit on the stripped, acoustic, or tracks with belting like Don't Blame Me.
      And for all the AHs that use this as some form of "proof" that she "can't sing"... She toured music on Eras that she has performed fully live MANY times since those songs were first released 😅
      It's also not like when she relies on a backing track she is just standing there. She uses them on MEGA pop tracks where she is dancing and running around and performing.
      Most people who criticise so heavily also have no IDEA what it takes to make music sound even half way decent in mega stadiums like these.

    Even though you may not love the song, I recommend the "Bad Blood"/"Should've Said No" mashup off this tour if you want more band -- The band is seated on the scaffolding above her, you can see it in certain shots & as an audience member you can see them but the recorded footage doesn't always show them well. With this mashup she goes up there and they are given alot of screen time.
    Edit: Also, any tour performance of the songs Love Story or Long Live will have the band out with her front and center. You'll probably HATE the songs 😂 .. maybe not as their very early Taylor so not pop, more Americana country. But they're saccharine af so I'm viting that you will hate them lmao.
    And where was my token Cats or Joe joke??? Mark, we count on those Cats jokes at this point!! 🙃❤

      I actually don't think he'd *hate* Long Live in all its formats. Especially as it was purposefully written for the fans and to be performed.
      Is it on this Rep tour that she does a stripped mashup of New Years Day & Long Live?
      I think he'd possibly like that and any stripped/acoustic version of Long Live 😬

    So glad you're watching this performance. I think of a lot of reputation is best enjoyed as live performance. I'm not really too likely to listen to on its own but if you think of it as a theater performance, it's just so fun. Lyrics still are great.... just not my favorite production. But it had to be freaking cool to see that live.

    Mark, I think you’d really enjoy the Live from Paris versions of “Death by a Thousand Cuts” & “The Man.” Both are from a quite poppy album (Lover) & I couldn’t stand the overproduced, grating album versions- couldn’t hear the lyricism through the noise. Live in Paris is just our girl and her guitar and her VOICE (as a writer even more than as a singer) just soars. “The Man (Live from Paris)” & “Death by… (Live from Paris)” are 2 of my personal favorite songs in T.S.’ Discography (/Swiftography?).

    Its probably my least favourite song from the reputation album but it is a fantastic opener for a stadium performance. Does exactly as intended, sets the tone, gets the crowd riled up and immediately gives the 'are you ready for it' chant a second, tour specific meaning.
    Its well worth watching the stadium performances. Too many great ones to mention, im sure there are a million suggestions throughout the comments already but its hard to go wrong. If theres one thing she knows how to do its put on an entertaining show regardless of how much you may or may not like the individual tunes
