Though they gain special race specific abilities that are very potent... this also comes with detrimental racial weaknesses to go with them. Like Ainz's weakness to holy and fire damage.

I didnt know heteromorps were the only ones that learned 3 skill points I thought it was every race Honestly skill points only allow you to unlock avilities, so having more avilites but being restricted in classes means that heteromorphs altho dont have much variation in the class department, they do have more spells to choose from from the classes that they get
You didn't get that right or the guy in the video didn't explain it very well, heteromorphs can't learn more skills than other races they get more attribute points to allocate on their stats like ATK, DEF, HP, MP etc that meant that they had the highest stats from all races, a simple example Humanoid get 1 attribute point per/lvl, Demi-Human 2, Heteromorph 3 so if we get one of each race at Lv100 a Humanoid will have 100 attribute point to distribute on his stats a Demi-Human 200 & a Heteromorph 300, so a Heteromorph char have 2 times higher stats than a Demi-Human & 3 times higher stats than a Humanoid char.
I wish i never live to the time when new tech replaces reasonable game design. Game is highly romanticised, in reality, it would be horrible and devs would be forced to add griefing protection, remove all the world class items and p2w and still go f2p in 3 months before shutting down year later.

It'd be hopelessly unbalanced for an actual *game* and mightn't have ever made it out of Beta, if even that, but as a more PvE focused (with elements of PvP) Tabletop RPG it'd work fantastically (those games often have literally world-breaking effects get caused by players) Basically, its not really a game in the same sense as we recognise it today, it's more a virtual platform for RP, akin to how Second Life is a virtual platform for 'browsing the internet'.
But also a huge special buffs, same person as exaple - Ainz has immunity to instant death spell and thrusting attacks as well as frost element and if i'm not mistaken a partial immunity to lighting element just by being the 'undead'

Seriously only 30% of this game was discovered why the hell did they shut it down!? It sounds like the greatest game ever and the fact that CZ2128 Delta is a thing means it also has sci-fi elements as well. It sounds like the love child of the Witcher, WOW, what everyone wants Destiny to be and more.
In the 12 years it was out there was a massive amount of innovation and advancement in vr technology and Yggdrasil quickly became outdated and it's player base gradually stopped playing Yggdrasil and moved onto different things.
Adding to what Offstar1029 said for example, in Yggdrasil, facial movements were nearly impossible to design smoothly when the game came out. Players had to use balloon emotes to express emotions/moods. More sophisticated games came out and the social trends moved on from fantasy gaming to different things. I imagine those new VR things are more technologically sophisticated and more accessible to the every day Joe than a fantasy game
@@jw-ws8dz Funny thing about this, I see Ainz using plenty of these whenever he needs to use high tier magic. People I see like to inflate Ainz powers but its clear that even at high level, cast times still apply and earnestly I can see how super tier magic coukd be interrupted easily with the use of something as simple as a magic beam wuth sufficient force.
Should be mentioned that some or even all job classes where at one point unknown to the players and had to be discovered. An example of this is Ainz eclipse class that needed a specialized death magic build, which made it not known to many players as information was not likely to be shared (wanting to gain advantage by using unknown skills).
Brutalyte616 no, I'm pretty sure Ainz was one of the people to actually discover Eclipse for himself. He wanted to role play a deathmagic using necromancer so he had a pretty meh build (focused more on the "story" of his character over actual power) right up until level 95, where he finally met all the requirements for Eclipse. Starting from level 70 about, basically everything has immunity to instant death which was like half of Momongas build, so he was one of the few or maybe only people who kept adding levels even when his instant death spells were literally useless.
This anime has such many potential to expand, they can even add separate series that is just about the game and how the guild became so strong and how they all met.

Except those limitations don't outweigh the positives in a significant way for proper balance. The heteromorph races would have been the most played races. Seeing as there seem to be skills and items that can just negate their weaknesses. Mmo players usually focus on the end game, not the early game.
That's...Christ. As a(amateur, take this with a grain of salt) game designer, a race and class system of that scale sounds like it would take years just to implement, not counting the time it would take to make the code stable enough to test it.
it's easier than it sounds. stat points are freely allocated and only dependant on your main race type(humanoid, demihuman or heteromorph) while the job levels and racial levels, mechanically identical, simply were "for each level you put in this job/race, you get to pick one of it's related skills". The only complex part would be the system for unlocking new classes depending on the ones you learned(not just wich ones you put levels into, but also how many), but that'd be more of an issue of pure design than difficulty in implementation. Essentially, no matter waht your build is, the code would simply support numerical stats and a skill list.
not really. You'd just have to balance the usefulness tier of skills to the rarity of the class it's learned with. If you mean balancing all the different builds... they wouldn't need to. The ability to gather your own info to make a build that's truly superior to other players is a very, very intentional design choice of that game's creators.
if you mean an individual class type being objectively worse than a diferent one, and it's not because one type is strong by itself while the other is stronger as part of a build but weak on it's own... that'd be a balance issue, yeah, it happens in a lot of games. but if you mean, taking hte time to spec into a build and then finding out it's a bad build... too bad so sad shoulda either experimented more or thought it out better. letting you fuck up is part of that game's design. Tho this compensates a bit with the secret class system, where RP builds like ainz's can lead to OP secret classes.

correction. no player could be a dragon. they are considered as the strongest creatures and would make a player outright broken. you could be a dragonoid however, like sebas tian (half dragon)
this just made me realize how much fun it will be if this game really existed... and how much it will cost to make it and the console to play it on.........and then i realized that it probably will never happen.... T^T
the problem lies with funding though, and the fact that the console we have right now might not be able to support the game due to how large and complex the game is, plus the fact that it is a game with high amounts of player freedom in a customization sense, makes the game a lot more harder to make. if such a game exist i will spend my entire fortune on it just for that customization factor alone
Jason Bourne maruyama is considered top tier in LN tho. Lol most LN were written by amateur writers that has never experience and training in writing. Maruyama as well. Because he is a business guy in real life. But I have to say because overlord English text was translated from Japanese. So many westerners find it weird because there’s a culture difference with the way they write. If you rank him among Japanese he is more around average. Even among English fantasy series he’s still low tier of the average
Yeah, I figured a lot of the problems do come from translation. And I very much understand that there may be cultural differences, but that only really involves character interaction. I've read a ton of Western fantasy books both bad and good writing. Translation and culture aside, this has been the worst writing I've encountered, but the plot and world is just so interesting and well thought out, I am actually willing to ignore the writing for the most part. Most of it stems from translation probably, including repeated phrases and awkwardly structured/worded sentences. Looking past that, I can still tell that he's definitely not the greatest of writers. Even being low tier of the average might be slightly pushing it, but I can accept that. But then again, the bar I have set for fantasy writers have generally been set by some of the greatest. Brandon Sanderson, Steven Erikson, Brian McClellan to name a few. Those guys are essentially the Mozarts and Beethovens of fantasy writing.
The video was nice but I think from the moment you touch the subject of classes you should mention the intricacies of "Rare" classes, you didn't explain why the are called that way, there is a meaning behind it, it's not that they are called that way for nothing, not anyone could learn just like that any of those "Rare" classes, in truth they are "Secret" classes that the majority of people in the game had no idea how to get, for example the "Rare" class Eclipse Ainz has can only be unlocked at Lv95 & *only* if your final build have the right composition for this to happen. The requirements was to have max lvl to all Overlord skills & max lvl on all type of Death & Necromancy skills, Ainz did that for role playing purposes & on his own surprise saw that at Lv95 that option of the rare class Eclipse appear, so in short he discover by luck how to unlock this rare class because he did this specialized build of his were he max Overlord/Death/Necromancy skills, so Ainz was one of the few in the game who knew how to unlock this class, as you said information on Yggdrasil was very important & people didn't share that stuff with anyone outside their guild.
I would REALLY like to see the video where you go over how the Guilds work in Yggdrasil, because the idea of your guild-hall being your very own raid-able dungeon is a feature I would LOVE to see in a real MMORPG.

when you think about how much of the game was truly explored compared to how much was, you could see that the devs planned to last at least 30 more years and likely many more changes and expansions like level capping to 200 or something but despite the popularity, it crashed, likely not making as much money as they hoped or their partners telling them to end it, which sucks because that kind of game could have skyrocketed further than most if they continued forward.
Such is the dream of every "WOW killer" lol. I remember when SWTOR was aiming to reach the level 100 cap. Oh we were so optimistic then...now SWTOR is on its last breath with the devs praying for Anthem's success so EA won't shut down Bioware.
The game stopped because people stopped playing it because it was too much of a P2W cashgrab. (Real ingame explanation) At least for most people, for the guild it was mainly because they did not have the time to play the game anymore.
@@StarboyXL9 still playing swtor. Some pvo here, sone raids there but nothing much. I also replay the class story then and now. I really loved the rpg element. At the same time I also think that the mmo part wasn't so dominant, however still decent. EA just made it a total cashgrab ( mothly abo + ingame shop). Though it's probably one reason this game is still running.
Out of the 200 world class items that were rumored to be in the game, only 50 of them were ever discovered. And out of those 50, Nazarick is in possession of 11 of them!

Yeah it's like benefits and loses are divided equally. They seems unfair but if we look deeply they have there own pro and cons. Like hetromorphic races at level 100 have higher state compared to humanoid or demi human classes. But for that they were isolated or more specifically came in same categories as monsters in the game. So PK was allowed to them.

Yggdrasil was a good game but the development and maintenance of a gigantic game like this cost a fortune which in turn made the subscription fee expensive. it was fine at the start of the game, everyone was hyped and money wasn't much of a concern but after 12 years, most people have had enough and grew up with responsibility and families to attend to. I hope they relaunch it again so that my children and grandchildren could play it. this is a comment from the year 2139.

the super tier spell "make a wish" only cost exp when the player themselves casts it that ring of ainz bypasses that and allows for three wishes without paying anything the only time it would cost something in the game was if you used it and none of the five options that appear were what you wanted THEN you would pay ten to re-roll the options
This is why I keep falling inlove with Overlord, so many details was put into building this, so amazing, I wanna compare this to anime with hundreds of eps though just by explaining all the small details. it is verily "Knowledge is power".
That's exactly what it is. When many newcomers watch Overlord, they can't get it out of there head that maybe the main character is stuck inside of the game and some way and that is just simply changed from what he knows.
its actually confusing in sense if ainz is actually in game, like maybe players were supposed to log out before yggdrasil servers shut down but after it was shut down, game enviroment was meant to be used as military or it is similar to some form of STEM system from Evil within
Hmm Its because when overlord came out the main genre going on was isekai to mmo game. SAO, Log Horizon,etc. So it basically influences that its in same category. But actually it's quite different like isekai to different world bot in a game. If you want to relate it to current series which are ongoing that would Maou Sama Retry which is pretty close to the same genre as overlord.

I understood what you were saying in this video, I only wish we get a pre new world off shoot anime showing us how the ainz guild got to where it was before the members began leaving. Seeing the npcs muted but hearing their inner monologues, watching the players making the npcs and interacting with one another and fighting off other guilds would be awesome!
It would take an extremely brave company and investors, so it's likely impossible. If you look at the scale of GTA 5's development and how it took years to make, and compare size alone, Yggdrasil was truly MASSIVE. Then game control mechanics also vastly outmatch GTA 5, not to mention the freedom of movement, necessary processing speeds, network stability, and character systems. All of our best modern games pale in comparison.
It would require a massive company and a very active mmorpg fanbase to even come close to making it. I mean one of the main reasons why mmorpgs are so uncommon these days is because not as many people play them as before so there is not enough profit. Especially with Blizzard making such a massive game as WOW that smaller companies can't really compete with. It makes one think, however, on what would happen if WOW closed. Would the genre die or spread? We will see eventually. Maybe a new one will rise in response. We need more profit from mmorpgs for something like YGGDRASIL to happen at least.

The most possible thing is the maintance was less money compared to what they got thats why the server could run but its impossible they got back all the money from a game that has 30 years of content in 13 years

I remember when wow was like that.....the first time leveling in 2007. All the stupid dumb places we found that the GMs did not want us to look into but we did anyway. All the stupidly hard elites roaming around said places to keep people out. You only get that once going through a game.
i watched a few of these vids, its suprizing how much depth was given to a game world that isnt even the main focus of where the story takes place, could just have been random mmo character fused with player and dropped into unknown world but they really went the extra mile to build up the backstory of the mmo the character originated from
I’ve had a theory for 10 minutes now, that the new world is the world of Yggdrasil, it’s just what it became after Ragnarok, where everyone, but a few gods and two humans died and the new world is just It repopulate day but that’s just a theory, a game theory.
Windy blower they go into a stasis like state where nothing changes until they wake up, and that includes the tomb as Ainz owns the entire thing and was inside of it at the freezing point.

i know this is like two months old but you really need to read the novels because it explains everything clearly with more attention to detail and you also get to see what characters are thinking in certain situations which the anime skips entirely hope this helps

it would be awsome to be able to play such a game, I haven't seen a game that ahs been amde like this ever so I wrote down everything I wanted in a game and wanted to make one, buuuut I'm lazy and I really hope a game developer that can make such complex shit actually watches Overlord and gets motivated to make such a game. the anime really should be longer than 12 episodes per season... it DESERVES a lot more with its crazy in-depth lore and game mechanics that most people won't even pick up on and realize...

basically cause the Dive tech evolved and, after those 12 years, nearly everyone had moved on to technollogically improved games, so nobody was spending money on it. kinda like how some enthusiasts still play FF11 because of how good it is, but in many aspects(specially visuals) it doesn't hold a damn candle to FF14, only with an even bigger gap since we're talking about improvements in virtual reality technology.

Nahh Overlord takes place in a dystopian world where the rich control everything, the air is so bad that you needed special filters outside and real food was so rare that millionaries could barely afford to live vegan and only the richest of the rich could actually afford to eat meat.
3:09 and 3:19 I couldn't help but laugh at these size comparisons as 1) they're two of the places that I've lived, and 2) I always make jokes about how easy it would be to see everything in a couple days of driving around
here is how i would set up my stats if i could at lvl100: 15 into angel, 5 into air elemental, 5 into fire elemental, 5 into archangel, 15 into sorcerer, 15 into monk, 10 to cleric, 10 to ki master: spiritual, and finally 10 to priest. i fell this could give me a high tier spell-caster who can wear robes and other items to boost their ability's without a defense loss because of monks unarmored defense along with the ability to do decent physical damage due to a monks unarmed strike ability's.
I need more of this. I did understand what you were saying but using tree charts would've been useful in this video or showing character cards while pointing at the racial and job classes
what i found the most intersting of the whole game was the idea you can create your own npc to fight for you and guard you belongings so instead of just leveling up yourself you could level up your ai characters too.

Undead Mercenary Also basically all forms of mental debuffs/effects(barring those caused by world class items)
Yah but you also get massive weakness to certain elements. For example Ainz high weakness to the elements of light and fire.
While resistances are nice in a PvE setting, the drawbacks of large weaknesses far outweigh them in a PvP setting

It sounds like the love child of the Witcher, WOW, what everyone wants Destiny to be and more.
In the 12 years it was out there was a massive amount of innovation and advancement in vr technology and Yggdrasil quickly became outdated and it's player base gradually stopped playing Yggdrasil and moved onto different things.
Adding to what Offstar1029 said for example, in Yggdrasil, facial movements were nearly impossible to design smoothly when the game came out. Players had to use balloon emotes to express emotions/moods. More sophisticated games came out and the social trends moved on from fantasy gaming to different things. I imagine those new VR things are more technologically sophisticated and more accessible to the every day Joe than a fantasy game
it was also stupidly p2w and that doesnt sit right with every day joe who have lives outside of a game (unlike our protagonist in overlord)

@@jw-ws8dz Funny thing about this, I see Ainz using plenty of these whenever he needs to use high tier magic. People I see like to inflate Ainz powers but its clear that even at high level, cast times still apply and earnestly I can see how super tier magic coukd be interrupted easily with the use of something as simple as a magic beam wuth sufficient force.
Should be mentioned that some or even all job classes where at one point unknown to the players and had to be discovered. An example of this is Ainz eclipse class that needed a specialized death magic build, which made it not known to many players as information was not likely to be shared (wanting to gain advantage by using unknown skills).
TheVikingtown Ironically, Ainz supposedly found the necessary information to obtain the class online and just said 'Yep. That's what I'm playing.'
Brutalyte616 no, I'm pretty sure Ainz was one of the people to actually discover Eclipse for himself. He wanted to role play a deathmagic using necromancer so he had a pretty meh build (focused more on the "story" of his character over actual power) right up until level 95, where he finally met all the requirements for Eclipse. Starting from level 70 about, basically everything has immunity to instant death which was like half of Momongas build, so he was one of the few or maybe only people who kept adding levels even when his instant death spells were literally useless.
Michael Moonie he has goal of life is death skill despite being available every 100 days.

Well, since Heteromorphs had the best stats, the other restrictions were added more as balance then. Can't have the best stats without some form of limitations to add balance

Except those limitations don't outweigh the positives in a significant way for proper balance. The heteromorph races would have been the most played races. Seeing as there seem to be skills and items that can just negate their weaknesses. Mmo players usually focus on the end game, not the early game.
That's...Christ. As a(amateur, take this with a grain of salt) game designer, a race and class system of that scale sounds like it would take years just to implement, not counting the time it would take to make the code stable enough to test it.
it's easier than it sounds. stat points are freely allocated and only dependant on your main race type(humanoid, demihuman or heteromorph) while the job levels and racial levels, mechanically identical, simply were "for each level you put in this job/race, you get to pick one of it's related skills". The only complex part would be the system for unlocking new classes depending on the ones you learned(not just wich ones you put levels into, but also how many), but that'd be more of an issue of pure design than difficulty in implementation.
Essentially, no matter waht your build is, the code would simply support numerical stats and a skill list.
The balancing would be a nightmare
not really. You'd just have to balance the usefulness tier of skills to the rarity of the class it's learned with.
If you mean balancing all the different builds... they wouldn't need to. The ability to gather your own info to make a build that's truly superior to other players is a very, very intentional design choice of that game's creators.

if you mean an individual class type being objectively worse than a diferent one, and it's not because one type is strong by itself while the other is stronger as part of a build but weak on it's own... that'd be a balance issue, yeah, it happens in a lot of games.
but if you mean, taking hte time to spec into a build and then finding out it's a bad build... too bad so sad shoulda either experimented more or thought it out better. letting you fuck up is part of that game's design.
Tho this compensates a bit with the secret class system, where RP builds like ainz's can lead to OP secret classes.

the problem lies with funding though, and the fact that the console we have right now might not be able to support the game due to how large and complex the game is, plus the fact that it is a game with high amounts of player freedom in a customization sense, makes the game a lot more harder to make. if such a game exist i will spend my entire fortune on it just for that customization factor alone

4047th Agent maruyama is a setting freak. Yggdrasil is only part of overlord setting. The new world also owns insane amounts of faction and history.
the class and lvl system is greatly influenced by D&D but yeah the amount of thought that went into the world is amazing

Jason Bourne maruyama is considered top tier in LN tho. Lol most LN were written by amateur writers that has never experience and training in writing. Maruyama as well. Because he is a business guy in real life. But I have to say because overlord English text was translated from Japanese. So many westerners find it weird because there’s a culture difference with the way they write. If you rank him among Japanese he is more around average. Even among English fantasy series he’s still low tier of the average
Yeah, I figured a lot of the problems do come from translation. And I very much understand that there may be cultural differences, but that only really involves character interaction. I've read a ton of Western fantasy books both bad and good writing. Translation and culture aside, this has been the worst writing I've encountered, but the plot and world is just so interesting and well thought out, I am actually willing to ignore the writing for the most part.
Most of it stems from translation probably, including repeated phrases and awkwardly structured/worded sentences. Looking past that, I can still tell that he's definitely not the greatest of writers. Even being low tier of the average might be slightly pushing it, but I can accept that.
But then again, the bar I have set for fantasy writers have generally been set by some of the greatest. Brandon Sanderson, Steven Erikson, Brian McClellan to name a few. Those guys are essentially the Mozarts and Beethovens of fantasy writing.

The video was nice but I think from the moment you touch the subject of classes you should mention the intricacies of "Rare" classes, you didn't explain why the are called that way, there is a meaning behind it, it's not that they are called that way for nothing, not anyone could learn just like that any of those "Rare" classes, in truth they are "Secret" classes that the majority of people in the game had no idea how to get, for example the "Rare" class Eclipse Ainz has can only be unlocked at Lv95 & *only* if your final build have the right composition for this to happen.
The requirements was to have max lvl to all Overlord skills & max lvl on all type of Death & Necromancy skills, Ainz did that for role playing purposes & on his own surprise saw that at Lv95 that option of the rare class Eclipse appear, so in short he discover by luck how to unlock this rare class because he did this specialized build of his were he max Overlord/Death/Necromancy skills, so Ainz was one of the few in the game who knew how to unlock this class, as you said information on Yggdrasil was very important & people didn't share that stuff with anyone outside their guild.

when you think about how much of the game was truly explored compared to how much was, you could see that the devs planned to last at least 30 more years and likely many more changes and expansions like level capping to 200 or something but despite the popularity, it crashed, likely not making as much money as they hoped or their partners telling them to end it, which sucks because that kind of game could have skyrocketed further than most if they continued forward.
Such is the dream of every "WOW killer" lol. I remember when SWTOR was aiming to reach the level 100 cap. Oh we were so optimistic then...now SWTOR is on its last breath with the devs praying for Anthem's success so EA won't shut down Bioware.
The game stopped because people stopped playing it because it was too much of a P2W cashgrab. (Real ingame explanation) At least for most people, for the guild it was mainly because they did not have the time to play the game anymore.
@@StarboyXL9 still playing swtor. Some pvo here, sone raids there but nothing much. I also replay the class story then and now. I really loved the rpg element. At the same time I also think that the mmo part wasn't so dominant, however still decent. EA just made it a total cashgrab ( mothly abo + ingame shop). Though it's probably one reason this game is still running.
Out of the 200 world class items that were rumored to be in the game, only 50 of them were ever discovered. And out of those 50, Nazarick is in possession of 11 of them!

Yeah it's like benefits and loses are divided equally. They seems unfair but if we look deeply they have there own pro and cons. Like hetromorphic races at level 100 have higher state compared to humanoid or demi human classes. But for that they were isolated or more specifically came in same categories as monsters in the game. So PK was allowed to them.
Heteromorphs effectively being 3x stronger than Humanoid players, due to gaining 3 skill points each level, instead of 1.

Yggdrasil was a good game but the development and maintenance of a gigantic game like this cost a fortune which in turn made the subscription fee expensive.
it was fine at the start of the game, everyone was hyped and money wasn't much of a concern but after 12 years, most people have had enough and grew up with responsibility and families to attend to.
I hope they relaunch it again so that my children and grandchildren could play it.

I was surprised when ever I seen a reviewer of the show confused the 2 worlds. I thought it very well explained since the point he save Carne village and paid in information that he should have known about what he learn if he played yggdrasil. He would not needed the information if he was in yggdrasil.
Since you can't gain new levels at level 100 it would be funny if someone stayed at level 99 & found a new job class upon level up & finally dropped back down to 99.

the super tier spell "make a wish" only cost exp when the player themselves casts it that ring of ainz bypasses that and allows for three wishes without paying anything the only time it would cost something in the game was if you used it and none of the five options that appear were what you wanted THEN you would pay ten to re-roll the options

I've kind of wanted to start reading the light novels that overlord is based off of. Everything I find on Overlord is in insane amounts of detail.
This is why I keep falling inlove with Overlord, so many details was put into building this, so amazing, I wanna compare this to anime with hundreds of eps though just by explaining all the small details. it is verily "Knowledge is power".
How the hell did anyone mistake the New World with Yggdrasil? They literally say on Ep 1 that they are somewhere else.
That's exactly what it is. When many newcomers watch Overlord, they can't get it out of there head that maybe the main character is stuck inside of the game and some way and that is just simply changed from what he knows.
what about the fact that 30% of the game were mapped, maybe they are still in Yggdrasil but dont know because they are somewhere thats not mapped ?

its actually confusing in sense if ainz is actually in game, like maybe players were supposed to log out before yggdrasil servers shut down but after it was shut down, game enviroment was meant to be used as military or it is similar to some form of STEM system from Evil within
Hmm Its because when overlord came out the main genre going on was isekai to mmo game. SAO, Log Horizon,etc. So it basically influences that its in same category. But actually it's quite different like isekai to different world bot in a game. If you want to relate it to current series which are ongoing that would Maou Sama Retry which is pretty close to the same genre as overlord.

I understood what you were saying in this video, I only wish we get a pre new world off shoot anime showing us how the ainz guild got to where it was before the members began leaving. Seeing the npcs muted but hearing their inner monologues, watching the players making the npcs and interacting with one another and fighting off other guilds would be awesome!

It would take an extremely brave company and investors, so it's likely impossible. If you look at the scale of GTA 5's development and how it took years to make, and compare size alone, Yggdrasil was truly MASSIVE. Then game control mechanics also vastly outmatch GTA 5, not to mention the freedom of movement, necessary processing speeds, network stability, and character systems. All of our best modern games pale in comparison.
It would require a massive company and a very active mmorpg fanbase to even come close to making it. I mean one of the main reasons why mmorpgs are so uncommon these days is because not as many people play them as before so there is not enough profit. Especially with Blizzard making such a massive game as WOW that smaller companies can't really compete with.
It makes one think, however, on what would happen if WOW closed. Would the genre die or spread? We will see eventually. Maybe a new one will rise in response. We need more profit from mmorpgs for something like YGGDRASIL to happen at least.

The most possible thing is the maintance was less money compared to what they got thats why the server could run but its impossible they got back all the money from a game that has 30 years of content in 13 years

I remember when wow was like that.....the first time leveling in 2007. All the stupid dumb places we found that the GMs did not want us to look into but we did anyway. All the stupidly hard elites roaming around said places to keep people out. You only get that once going through a game.
i watched a few of these vids, its suprizing how much depth was given to a game world that isnt even the main focus of where the story takes place, could just have been random mmo character fused with player and dropped into unknown world but they really went the extra mile to build up the backstory of the mmo the character originated from
I’ve had a theory for 10 minutes now, that the new world is the world of Yggdrasil, it’s just what it became after Ragnarok, where everyone, but a few gods and two humans died and the new world is just It repopulate day but that’s just a theory, a game theory.

Great video and explanation of the game. I would transport my WoW character into the new world from Overlord to be an Overlord too haha. I guess being a Death Knight would automatically classify my character as heteromorph despite being blood elf.

i know this is like two months old but you really need to read the novels because it explains everything clearly with more attention to detail and you also get to see what characters are thinking in certain situations which the anime skips entirely hope this helps

it would be awsome to be able to play such a game, I haven't seen a game that ahs been amde like this ever so I wrote down everything I wanted in a game and wanted to make one, buuuut I'm lazy and I really hope a game developer that can make such complex shit actually watches Overlord and gets motivated to make such a game. the anime really should be longer than 12 episodes per season... it DESERVES a lot more with its crazy in-depth lore and game mechanics that most people won't even pick up on and realize...

basically cause the Dive tech evolved and, after those 12 years, nearly everyone had moved on to technollogically improved games, so nobody was spending money on it.
kinda like how some enthusiasts still play FF11 because of how good it is, but in many aspects(specially visuals) it doesn't hold a damn candle to FF14, only with an even bigger gap since we're talking about improvements in virtual reality technology.

Nahh Overlord takes place in a dystopian world where the rich control everything, the air is so bad that you needed special filters outside and real food was so rare that millionaries could barely afford to live vegan and only the richest of the rich could actually afford to eat meat.

here is how i would set up my stats if i could at lvl100: 15 into angel, 5 into air elemental, 5 into fire elemental, 5 into archangel, 15 into sorcerer, 15 into monk, 10 to cleric, 10 to ki master: spiritual, and finally 10 to priest. i fell this could give me a high tier spell-caster who can wear robes and other items to boost their ability's without a defense loss because of monks unarmored defense along with the ability to do decent physical damage due to a monks unarmed strike ability's.
So like Elden Ring, but VR & even bigger. Got it!

what i found the most intersting of the whole game was the idea you can create your own npc to fight for you and guard you belongings so instead of just leveling up yourself you could level up your ai characters too.
