    I daresay Zanac is one of the characters I completely changed my mind on. Initially I thought him just another petty noble type, willing to do anything to gain power. His change and ultimate fate made me really sad for the outcome. Then again I am sure a lot of people would have hoped that Brain and Gazef had also lived since they were also shown to be inspirational heroes.

    • @ODDnanref
      @ODDnanref ปีที่แล้ว +44

      Gazef's loyalty had him set on one path only. Once we learned that the king would not be able to give up the territory (would make him weaker to the Nobel faction, and so on) I kind of just knew Gazed was going to eventually fight Ainz or one of his subordinates.
      Brain had a satisfying conclusion, but I really did hope he would have fled with Climb. Then again he changed over time after having his confidence shattered.
      As for Zanac seeming like the petty noble type. That was masterfully crafted by the author. He treated his sister like a psychopath, then you learn she is actually one. He treated his brother like an idiot and you see how his brother could have easily ground the kingdom into dist with his foolishness. Zanac foiled and put obstacles in front of his eldest because the things the seat wanted to do was due to manipulation and probably would have diminished the crown's influence.

    • @gurugurukuma

      @darkrite9000 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Yeah Zanac was a character I originally didn't think much of, when we got to know his siblings, I thought he was certainly cunning, but not nearly as smart as his sister, but far smarter than his brutish older brother. Then seeing him try to run the kingdom while his father is falling in his spiral of grief, my opinion of him started to change, fast forward to the chat with Ainz and I really felt bad for Zanac, he tried his best for his kingdom, and honestly if Ainz wasn't fixed upon the kingdom's destruction, I think he would have gotten along with Zanac fairly well. But his goal and how he knows best to achieve it basically requires this act of destruction, and since nothing can really oppose him, I think it makes more bitter on how we view the situation. Hoping Zanac might be able to live by the narrowest margin due to Ainz's respect for him. Then we had the traitor nobles, and I honestly enjoyed knowing they would be sent to experience living hell. They betrayed and brutally killed their leader, merely so they could even attempt to save themselves. I know they feared for their lives, but it doesn't mean I have to be ok with their actions.

      @@ODDnanref I think with gazef and brain we know for a fact they wouldbt have accepted what the princess did thus they had to be taken care of I honestly think brains ending was more satisfying then gazef seeing as ainz was really pessimistic and the only one who could give gazef a warriors death was coqites (however you spell that name lol) at the very least gazef died peacefully. It had taken someone as depraved and selfish as the princess to truly join the ranks of ainz oal gown and if you ask my real opinion on that she was only accepted due to zanac and his friendship with ainz her usefulness to nazarack was negligible at best demiurge said so but thats just my take you could argue taking over the kingdom from within was valuable too deserving of being apart of ainz but imo that wouldve only been enough to be spared not to be apart of ainz

      Gazef died trying to gleam information fora possible future defeat on Ainz. I think that is a satisfying nd, not a warriors end, but the end of a shield that dying trying to further protect his kingdom.
      The princess was a psychopath, but she was pretty clear on what she wants. She wants to live with her puppy as equals and have kids with him. Nazarick just had the better deal.
      Also, what are you on about? The princess was accepted into the ranks due to her unparalleled intelligence, she played the nobles in the kingdom without stepping outside the palace. She could deduce the movements of organizations without even stepping out of the palace too. Not to mention Albedo and Demiurge both admitted to her being of equal intelligence to them. Which scared Ainz, because she could discover his fakeness. So her ability to take over administrative tasks from Albedo or Demiurge would massive free up one of them to take to the frontlines, where they can actually deal damage. The princess had a deal way before Momonga befriended Zanac.

    One thing I loved is that everyone became a fan of Zanac only after his conversation with Ainz, opposed to his introduction. When we first saw him, he seemed to be the gluttunous prick who hated his sister and just wanted to be king, but when we look at the whole situation from his perspective, youre faced with a kingdom teetering, a sister who is evil incarnate with an inhuman wealth of wit and insight, and a buerocratic branch that was tearing itself apart from the inside. i loved that Ending, it was sad mainly cause Ainz finally had someone to question his motives not as a villain, not as a enemy, but as a individual, Zanac actually connected with Ainz and Ainz knew that, which is even more sad cause you could feel his anger when the lord brought his head, he respected Zanac, this was shown as he ordered Albedo to bury his head along with his body, which is suprising cause Ainz wouldint naturally care

    • @frankielovejoy9928

      It's really interesting because, in many cases, Ainz hasn't actually had a say in what happens to Nazerick or what they do.
      For example, it wasn't really Ainz's idea to accomplish world domination. That was Demiurge's idea based on one off-hand comment from Ainz and Demiurge's own personal biases. Demiurge was just so convincing with the rest of the NPCs, Ainz felt he had no choice but to go along with it.

I know in Crunchyroll's case they pay their translators very poorly, so that probably explains the lack of quality. It also doesn't help that there's only one translation for the most part.
      In the old days, you'd get subtitles done by volunteer groups, and while not all were good, overall, the quality of the translation was much higher - especially if you were watching slightly older shows, where community had time to sort out and vote on which group had the best translation.

And then there's shows where I prefer the sub, I don't understand why people get so caught up in being some sort of sub purist, you don't speak japanese so you're entirely at the mercy of the translation subtitles. Much the same way the dub viewers are at the mercy of who's cast for the voice roles, and what's written for the script for them. It's the same boat, just a different make of sorts.

      @@snapeinvader No, Ainz and Demiurge came up with an idea to change the kingdom from the inside by removing the useless ones and keeping the useful ones. They planned to make a revolution by using Phillip and takeover the Kingdom as It's saviour after the revolution ends. But that plan backfired when Phillip attacked the Sorcerer Kingdom's grain transportation cart. Phillip(a noble of the Kingdom) basically declared war to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Now, they have to respond with an appropriate response to that attack but that response can't be seen as too naive or weak from the other nations since Kingdom one of the weakest nations after their clash with Empire and Ainz on the Kltze Plains. Plus, the Kingdom is rotten from the inside, The noble faction and the royal faction always clashing against each other, citizens with no ambitions, producing drugs and all kinds of Illegal things by the Six Fingers. Kingdom is basically useless to Ainz. So, Ainz and The Guardians had a meeting and then decided that to make the full use of the current situation is to make examples of Kingdom(who attacked the Sorcerer Kingdom) and the Empire (Who was a vessel Kingdom under the Sorcerer Kingdom). He give them one month to live before eradicating them. That's mercy from Ainz. They experimented new tactics while attacking the Kingdom so Ainz made sure to use all their lives as much as possible. Also, when Pestonya(The dog maid) begged him to let some people live, Ainz let some of them escape.[add my top comment here]

      1. It is definitely true that he would be a very lonely man without all Nazarick's NPCs.
      2. It is however not true that he does not like to act as an overlord, a super villain, hence choosing the role (and the evil guild) in the first place.
      So in conclusion.. He would prefer if he freely could display his inner thoughts in front of Nazarick denizens. That however does not mean he dislikes his role of overlord of Nazarick.

      Seriously, I mean it's not like Ainz *Likes* all the killing he does. He still does it for selfish reasons, yeah, but he's not the mindless monster they seem to think he is. He's a former salaryman, he is capable of being reasoned with (usually, as long as it benefits him in some way). And he is still capable of empathizing with others (take Gondo and Pluton for example). And even that bonus chapter that takes place in an alternate continuity shows just how different his way of doing things would be if he came to the new world alone. Take him away from the toxic influence of people like Albedo and Demiurge, put him around real friends who see him as an equal and won't blindly worship him, and Ainz suddenly isn't that different from other Isekai protagonists.

    Considering Ainz's answer was "happiness" there were two individuals in particular that could have change the fate of the Kingdom: The first was Gazef, who by joining would have spared the Kingdom via Ainz's own words; and even without that promise he was respected enough by Ainz that he probably could have moved to be more merciful. The second was Sebas; however, this one would be completely the fault of the Kingdom itself: If what he saw during his mission had revealed a people worth saving he probably would have given his opinion to that effect, much in the same way Cocytus did for the Lizardmen. The problem was Sebas only found a handful of decent people in a city full of criminals, corrupt nobles, and a trampled underclass that would wish for death.
    As a final note, odds are the Sorcerer Kingdom probably had all most if not all of the people worth saving on their side already before the Kingdom was razed. Marquis Raeven's group already had sided with Ainz, and between them, the Adventurer's Guild, and the Eight Fingers they probably already rescued or swayed all of their friends/family/relatives/worthwhile people. Essentially the only people left in the Kingdom were corrupt nobles and those too cowardly to leave them who inexplicitly thought that they still could pull the strings enough to retain their independence. I would say "and those still loyal to the King" but we know what happened to them.

    Zanac was by no means perfect but he really did care about his country and wanted to right by it, his efforts to displace Barbro and become king as well as recruit Raeven and Renner to his side were all for the goal of fixing the Kingdom of Re-Estize, which let's be honest was horribly mismanaged and rotten from the inside out. Zanac's meeting with Ainz was very enlightening as it shows not Only Ainz's motivation but also Zanac's true nature, their one on one meeting allowed for the facades to fall and them to be honest with eachother. Zanac came away from the meeting feeling that was far more human than he had ever imagined, and Ainz came away finding Zanac worthy of respect and deciding on what he truly wanted in the New World. Ainz promise Zanac a relatively painless death but that was ruined by the selfish nobles who betrayed their prince to save their own hides. After Ainz received Zanac's head, that was the point that Ainz lost any respect or care for the kingdom and committed to destroying it, he had the nobles and their families sent to Neuronist and decided to wrap up the war. He no longer had any interest in sparing anyone from the kingdom and has his guardians finish off what was left.

    I felt at the time, when I first saw that the carrot or stick method was brought up, that Ainz's character must display his cruelty in order to be taken seriously. And this whole situation reminds me of "how a realist..." Anime also demonstrates this necessity but with his own retainers, where as Ainz's doesn't need to go that route. Maybe the writers were influenced by "the prince" and they went in this direction.

    I think the Orb in his chest is also a world item, and he rarely parts with it. I think its also a big "tell" that the one fighting PDL was not the real Ainz.
    Also, if you read the full lyrics of the Ending "No Man's Dawn", it pretty much encapsulates Momonga's feelings.

    Ainz didn't bring his world items to the meeting to keep up the appearance that he is an NPC and Albedo is the player, an ongoing scheme that he did with the Platinum Dragon Lord and Pandora's actor.

    When i fist saw Zanac i was like "oh stereotypical rich noble to watch die satisfyingly"
    he ended up being one of the most well flushed out characters, and amongst those i respect the most. And instead of satisfying, his death was sad and tragic. This is what sets Overlord apart
