Sad, but true. The classic siren has always been added in post production. But there are ways to have it added to any car with a loud enough speaker under the hood and an mp3 file. ;)
Some friends and I did Halloween years ago as Ghostbusters. We got to the party in a white Subaru wagon with 2 flashing red lights and the siren blaring thru the speakers. It was epic.
Not gonna lie, I got nostalgic and a little emotional watching this. Ecto-1 was and still is, one of the coolest movie cars out there and knowing that she lives and breathes still, is just awesome.

I love how Adam hasn't lost his sense of wonder and excitement no matter how many awesome iconic things he gets to interact with. He really helps us feel the excitement of it. Thanks Adam!
I have had a similar Ghostbusters experience like Adam driving the Ecto-1. I have met and talked with Bill Bryan the man that built, designed (based on original concept by Dan Aykroyd) and wore the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man suit in the original movie. To me shaking the hand of the man that made and wore the Stay Puft suit for the original movie, is just as epic as Adam driving the Ecto-1. :) He also told me that my cosplay knife I made was great, which that weekend I got Chuck Norris himself to stab me with. Plus having the same birthday as Ernie Hudson is also great. :)
My friend and I bought a 1961 Cadillac Millar-Meteor Ambulance for $400 back in the early 90s. Kinda looked like the ECTO-01 now... a lil rust here and there... but that monster always started and handled like a dream. We dressed it up as the ECTO-01 that year for Halloween and drove it around our old neighborhoods passing out candy to the kids. They loved the car and meeting Ghostbusters. I really, REALLY wish we still had that car... many excellent memories. :-)
Hello, marketing department’s… this is how integrated marketing is done with great effect… Welll done !!! I was marketed to and I enjoyed it !! Made me smile even !

Ditto. Adam is the king of weathering and distressing props to simulate age and wear, I'd love to see him do a deep dive on that car. At least some of it is real. The guy had some trouble with the passenger door sticking, and the creaking was definitely "old car don't fit no more" sounds.
Well, I watched this video and then the algorithm suggested another video from the official ghostbusters channel about how it was fully restored a year ago (video published). So either we’re looking at a lot of prop-weathering, or these aren’t the same cars 🤔
@@Mikey_G I think you are talking about the full restoration done for promoting the Ghostbusters video game on 360/PS3? That was over a decade ago, and I think the car was left outside the Sony studio's HQ since then, so could be real weathering? (if the same car)
I believe this is actually the ECTO-1A from Ghostbusters II, the original ECTO-1 was restored a decade ago and sits on display at Sony. The 1A was supposed to be restored at the same time but it never happened. But I'm assuming the majority of weathering on this is prop weathering.
This video explains a lot. I just watched GB: Afterlife with my kids today, and the ECTO-1 stood out for several reasons. First, we have a car that harkens back to the originals. Very cool. However, when they fired it up in the movie, I immediately perked up...."That cam lope sounds awfully aggressive to me...I think this one's got a rodded crate motor" is what I was thinking to myself in the theater. Then the way the ECTO-1 was driven in Afterlife was incredible. Major credit to the drivers, mechanics and engineers of Afterlife, to see y'all race that beast around the way you did was a real treat, and truly impressive. I came home and went looking for answers on the car and drivers and ended up here.
The way I look at this car... it, itself, is a living being just as the Ghostbusters are, and Ray gave it a second chance at a new life. This car is just as much a character, as the actors themselves. This is the car, THE reason for my love of station wagons, ambulances and hearses from the age of 5 when my mom let me watch the original movie on a rented VHS tape, on a rented VCR. I so can not wait to see how this new movie turns out!
There’s a lot of argument of what the best movie car is whether it’s the DeLorean, the Batmobile, Christine, the Blues Mobile. None of those cars bring a bigger smile to your face more than the Ecto-1, I smiled with Adam even though I wasn’t in the car with him, it singlehandedly shows that Ecto-1 and Ghostbusters still is one of the greatest 80’s movies of all time.
I personally don't think there's a single best, because all of them are great--the Jet Car from Buckaroo Banzai, the Landmaster-1 from Damnation Alley, Ecto-1, the various Batmobiles, they're all fabulous in their own way.
OMG, that was so cool!! the funny thing is i could hear the siren i know it wasn't used but i have watched the movies so many times when i see the ecto driven my brain just adds the siren. thanks for sharing that experience with us.
I can confirm that the Miller Meteor is a beast to drive! I got to drive one for a local Ghostbusters group and man what an experience when the sirens are going and you pull in surprising a crowd of people
I drove a ‘60 a few years back, really easy to steer and brake, just have to be careful on turns or when backing in anywhere because of the length. If you’ve driven large vans before then it’s pretty straightforward.
I may never have to the opportunity to drive Ecto-1 but seeing Adam's joy trough out the video is a great second best. I hope you will release more video of the set of GB afterlife.

The one thing is for certain at the time of this comment is that they had used 3 Ectomobiles for this movie, all aged to look like this.
I know it’s not the original one all I’m saying is it must be pretty easy to find one that is old and rusted out that comes with all that fantastic natural weathering considering the age of the vehicle
@@camrynhamme oh yeah no worries, we all just love talking Ecto lmao. Actually, there were only 400 of these cars ever built so they are extremely rare and expensive!!

I hadn't heard a peep about Afterlife until I picked up the lego set a few months back. My first lego build in decades, and one of my favourite movie cars of all time (along with Tim Burton's Batmobile), I couldn't resist. From what I've seen of the story, I don't think they could have found a better way to honour Harold Ramis'. November can't come fast enough.
I've a grin on my face from ear to ear; from the roar of the engine starting up to the videos end. It's like seeing an old friend. How wonderfully fun.
@@Hiluxtrd07 ah yes! i forgot about that one. i actually got to meet a screen used General Lee back in 2001, Canada day in Cobourg Ontario, she looked rough, but was so awesome to see and touch and photo. but i'll always be a fan of the 1968 Mustang fast back from Bullitt
Ok now I want to see the new movie EVEN MORE! This is how you reach the die hard fans. Find the ultimate die hard fan, and let him bring out his inner child!
After seeing the movie last night, I had the biggest smile on my face seeing Ecto 1 come back to life. I highly recommend seeing it, it stays true to the original Ghost Busters
The wiring under the hood of that thing is a mild fire hazard guys but its sweet nonetheless! Sounds much better than the original and probably 3x faster with that LS3
Forget Mad Max, Knight Rider, Bond's Aston Martin, the Bluesmobile, the DeLorean, or even the Batmobile... of ANY movie car Ecto-1 is the one I'd want to take home :-)
I remember seeing the actual car "ecto-1" when they were filming the firehouse scene in Chinatown, it was parked 2 blocks away and I remember trying the doors and they were all open 🤯 and in the back were 4 proton packs, I just wish I was a little more dishonest I would be. Owning a piece of history now. 🤣🤣🤣
I think there was a missed opportunity of driving ecto-1 through the local Tim Horton's drive through. Probably couldn't drive it on the road, but still. A man can dream
Must admit, I spent much of the video scrutinising the weathering. Some of the exposed rust was definitely just paint, other bits looked more realistic but they could just be parts that get close-ups and still could easily be paint jobs, just better ones. I'd be interested to know if this car was scratch built or a real old car. Either way, I'm sure they know how iconic this is and how much it'll be worth, so if it is a real car, any rust will have been treated to stop it spreading, or removed, filled and replaced with painted rust.
If it's the same rolling chassis that I saw back in 2011, it was an actual car and not a scratch-built; the one I saw had a ground cover under the engine bay to catch the oil from the engine. The weathering/aging job that was done on the finish looks awesome compared to the near showroom shine finish my pictures from the 2011 event show.
especially since parts for both the original 390 V8 and suspension are getting harder and harder to find; it would also explain why there are so many parts cars on the property itself.
I love the fact that they finally let the Ecto 1 be part of the action in Afterlife. Instead of just being a prop in some random shots, it actually participated in a chase scene.
The way he's describing the stunts the car has to do is telling me that I'm not gonna like the new movie. Why does every new movie now have to involve a car chase? I haven't even seen a preview yet and I can already tell the movie is crap and with two bad ones in a row now I guess the franchise is dead, what a disgrace. I'm glad you got to drive it but I miss the old days with good writing over special effects and "cool camera angles".
I've a huge nerd and have every model of the Ecto-1 from the black, beat-up build to the classic, as well as Ecto-1A and even two versions from Extreme Ghostbusters. I've got about 8 or so. Yes, it's true. This man has no life.
This brings back memories. My first car was a 1970 Cadillac ambulance. For such a big car (20 foot long) it had that Cadillac feel. Once had it over 120 mph and it felt like I was driving on a cloud. Man, I miss that thing!
Just so happens, there's a 69 or 70 ambulance for sale right now in Myrtle Beach at Competition Cars. I've daily driven a few hearses. Yes they can go really fast for how big they are, yes they ride like a Cadillac, and once you're used to it, you can whip it into a parking spot like it's a Honda Civic. Not everyone else is gonna be a fan though
Seeing Sir Adam genuinely enjoying it felt realy great! He's like living the fanboy's dream for all of us! Thanks for this vid! Can't wait for the movie!

The motor sounds and looks beautiful what a great car from my childhood and seeing it looking better than ever can't wait to see it in action
4 cars i would love to test drive are the Bullitt Car, the General Lee, BTTF DeLorean and Ecto1!
Better add just 1 more. Mad Max Interceptor.👍🙂
DeLorean and Ecto-1 ... two cars I'd love to own.
If I ever was rich.
Oh, and the Bullitt mustang!
I doubt they ever show under the hood in the movie.
Forget Mad Max, Knight Rider, Bond's Aston Martin, the Bluesmobile, the DeLorean, or even the Batmobile... of ANY movie car Ecto-1 is the one I'd want to take home :-)
"When there's Somthin Strange in the Neighborhood....Who Ya Gonna Call?......MythBusters!"
You see, just the look of joy of Mr. Adam driving the car was enough to make of it an enjoyable experience to watch.
When a MythBuster rides a GhostBuster car my life is complete.
All I need is Adam to clean up with a Dust Buster.
‘Myth busters’ and ‘Ghostbusters’... all in the family! 😊👻
I have never been so jealous. Inahve also never been so excited and impatient to see a movie than I am with Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
You wouldn't of made it one block with any of that memorabilia...
Definitely a dream moment. I was getting goosebumps watching you drive around and seeing how excited you were! Congrats! That's so awesome!!
Those iconic sirens would have made this complete.
I agree 100%
The sirens don't exist, the sound is artificial and added in post!
@@jmiller991 look for "Ecto-1 sirens sound" ..play on loudspeaker..boom...done. Its not rocket science, it's been done.
@@c3r3bralm.f Oh I know, but what I meant was its not an actual real siren sound..
@@jmiller991 actually it is an actual sound my Fenix control box has the sound along with the regular Siren. We have it on our modern tribute vehicle
Living vicariously through your joy is a wonderful experience.
I think there was a missed opportunity of driving ecto-1 through the local Tim Horton's drive through. Probably couldn't drive it on the road, but still. A man can dream
Couldn’t help but smile through that whole video.
Super cool man. Watching your face light up when you turned the key was a no words moment. What a fantastic experience.
*Adam* : Can I sit in it?
*Coordinator* : Sure.
*Adam* : Can I start it?
*Coordinator* : Sure.
*Adam* : Kthxbye
Watching Adam having such a good time with Ecto-1 does my heart good.
Can't wait for the film to finally come out
I damn near cried seeing him get in. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to sit in it, let alone drive it. Thank you. I needed this.
while they say they engin isn't what would be in it I would expect Egon and Ray to LS swap it and beef up the suspension just because they could.
especially since parts for both the original 390 V8 and suspension are getting harder and harder to find; it would also explain why there are so many parts cars on the property itself.
I was smiling the whole time. You are truly lucky Adam!
for when your Chevy Suburban just isnt big enough ...
Never clicked on a video so fast, thank you for sharing this amazing experience Adam and the Tested team. Can't wait to go see this movie.
AMAZING! You are living the dream Mr. Savage
I am not a big car guy but man that engine sound gives me goosebumps. And the siren is so iconic! WOW!
SO HAPPY for you, ADAM!! What a delight!!
Every time I hear the siren, my eyes water up put of happiness. Childhood dream stuff right there.
I've never been more jealous.
( I made my first Ghostbuster's Backpack in '85. )
Adam, your like a kid at Christmas eve. You are guinunely excited! so fun to see and enjoy with you!
Seeing Sir Adam genuinely enjoying it felt realy great! He's like living the fanboy's dream for all of us! Thanks for this vid! Can't wait for the movie!
Couldnt be more jealous of him. 😂 what a lucky guy! Thanks for sharing such a great moment! 👻
