As a Korean, the weapons developement is very crucial for our country. There are so many fine weapon makers and allies worldwide but we cannot fully trust them. In 1950s, The US didn't provide any heavy weapons before Korean war, despite constants SK Gov's request. They feared that providing heavy weapons to SK would cause war against NK. So SK soldiers had to sucide attack with molotove cocktail to stop NK T-34 tanks. We paid tons of blood because of that. Furthermore, If we are going under situation like Ukraine, greedy weapons makers are going to double, triple or quadraple their product's price. We can & must afford the ridiculous price to protect ourselves if we don't have our own weapons makers. That is why we are obssesing to have more & stronger fire power. We never trust international politics and capitalism that works for us.

Do you think 30,000 South Koreans who successfully made it from North Korea will gladly kill their families and friends still there? This is only counting the people who crossed over since the partition by foreign powers, not the people who moved during the Korean war in which 650,000 tons of bombs have been dropped and according to General Curtis LeMay, killed 20% (4 million) with his bombs. This is many times larger than the light bombing of 90,000 tons over Japan 5 years prior, which Japan has unlike Korea, did not thank the Allies for for destroying their fascist government that sent 3 million standing men to cannibalize (2 of 3 million experienced cannibalism) the other Asians, the American POWs, and eventually themselves. Instead they still cry about it for decades until dumb people overseas started taking their gaslighting seriously (1/3 nuclear casualties were Koreans and Chinese, and more when they specifically cherrypicked these foreigners to clean up Nagasaki and dumped their irradiated dying bodies into the sea in an attempt to get rid of the evidence of their war crimes)
It is foolish to hate your brethren like this. The now late Hyundai Group's founder himself, Jeong Ju-young, has had much love for his home town he grew up in, which was in North Korea.
Nobody in North Korea believes their own puppet government's propaganda since everyone secretly watches South Korean media to the point the government started specifically targeting South Korean media contraband as a major threat to their puppet government stability. That's the entire reason they are escaping. They all wish to flee to South Korea but many are enslaved in China along the way, never being able to make it to Southeast Asia and take a flight to SK from there.

People are sick of America's weapon wait times. Also expensive. That smart AT round looks interesting.
Germany? Not sure what's going on but been reading a ton of things about their newer weapons. Especially the Puma.
I think all countries should have their own home grown self defense industry. I might be American, and do want our companies to succeed but I want my allies to be strong too.
I think Isreal is a great example. They build shit specifically for their needs and requirements and work together with the US to make some amazing things. Japan too with the F-2. Oh and glad that the AU is adamant on making their subs at their home. It might be expensive and the product might not be the best but it is good non the less.
Don't want to be like Russia and need to buy components with shell companies from your enemies.

@@Mal101M @iraqiv1nce748 I've been trying to figure out how dependent we (US) are on components as well. How many companies let alone countries have unique components to make a single F 35. TSCMs making chips which needs ASLM who needs Carl Zeiss who needs an other manufacturer who's name escapes me. All for high end chips. Huge rabbit hole, and these companies are irreplaceable.
I don't think people realize how specialized some weapon manufacturers are that aren't easily replaceable. Also jt would be nice if NATO actually picked up some of the slack - even their soldiers complain about their logistics. They can work on that. America too on being able to give our allies weapons they've purchased instead of putting them on a wait list that changes with geopolitcs.

@@dianapennepacker6854 The fact is, from a security perspective, South Korea emerging as a elite arms exporter is great for America, already paying huge dividends on the other side of the world as Poland was able to transfer to Ukraine 200 upgraded T-72s, because South Korea is backfilling Poland from it's reserve stocks with two-hundred K2 Panthers. Already making a disproportion contribution to Ukraine's war with Russia. I wouldn't surprised if their stuff turns to be better. I hope. That just means we're stronger in what is a biopolar world again and S. Korea is on our side.

@@juliodyarzagaray hehe on bi-polar world. That's exactly WTF it is.
Anyhow thought I mentioned SK starting to really show its fangs as well. At least we know they can manufacture their own electronics haha. Don't think you need a 5nm chip for everything. Sad people keep brushing the K2 off as too specialized and crap like that. I feel like the new one they are working on with the 130mm looks promising. Heard the US is thinking of 140mm to future proof our tanks and Russia Armata is said to already be capable of upgrading to a 150mm down the line.
Anyway I keep basically repeating it so it slipped my mind so no disrespect to SK as they are doing it right as well, but yes exactly my point.
Honestly I'm surprised Poland isn't investing mods heavily into their own manufacturing capabilities. The best time to start might be yesterday but it is better today than tommorow. I guess they need the equipment now and don't want to wait, and I hope the deals are quite good so they don't end up like India.
I also wonder if America and SK have any joint ventures. Or who their weapon manufacturers work with the most.
Anyway glad more of our allies are reevaluating their defense industry. People forget those jobs and skills aren't easily replaced and military technology trickles down to civilian use.

Korea is starting to break into the Europen market now with the war there. Poland is buying their K2 tank other kits from there. I remember seeing their K1 tank back in '90 during the yearly exercise and wondering what that was. It looked like a M1 tank but smaller and slimmer turrent. I think the main reason that they are breaking into Europe is that they can deliver alot sooner. The main companies in Europe and US are back logged on their orders. From what I can see, Korea are now making great products that met what is needed.

K1 was designed by Chrysler, and built in ROK.
In 1980's, ROK was actually just a few signatures away from buying Leopards.
Carter administration wasn't too helpful when ROK wanted to upgrade their old M48 fleet. So ROK went to Germans. But when the deal was about to be completed, US stepped in and offered to help with designing K1 tank.

Redback was proposed to polish armed forces and it failed. Korean provided australian configured platforms for polish field testing and they preformed so poorly, that Poland decided to cancel procurment of it. Polish Borsuk, a lighter in development IFV outpreformed it on every stage. However, the nail in the coffin was the fact that Redback is equipped with elbit turret, which is way worse than new polish ZSSW-30 and equipped with subsystems, to which Isreaeli gov and secret services have software backdoors. Koreans tried to save face with proposition of quick fixes to Redback, including replacing elbit turrest with ZSSW-30, but damage was done. Not to mention, that phase 2 of polish contracts with korean industry now is under question, as koreans refused technology transfer and licensing, believing that Poland cannot refuse them, as it already bought 180 base K2s and 212 base K9s. Probably entire K2PL program will be cancelled in favour of buying more M1A2s.

Lets just put this out there. The CV90, especially the later models are far more dangerous than the Lynx, Puma, Bradley or K21 fighting vehicles. They are more modern, the cannon is much larger (40mm) the types of ammunition 3p programmable ammunition is deadly as hell. It can air-burst at set ranges, it would annihilate every single Russian in ANY trench with ease from kilometers away.
The weight of this IFV is almost as much as the Russian MBT (main battle tanks). Close to 40 Ton.
The CV9040 is a highly aggressive vehicle, designed to control the initiative by staying mobile instead of slowing things down to a walk. Aggressive maneuvering is what the CV9040 is designed to do, outmaneuving vehicles and killing them in the flank and charging enemy positions to drop off soldiers right ontop of the enemy.
These tactics have been part of the Swedish doctrine since the late fifties as seen in vehicles like the PBV301 and PBV302. And it was directly copied from the German playbook of WW2, where the German panzergrenadiers/dismounts fought more often than not from their halftracks, allowing them to keep pace with the tanks and also maintain initiative through aggressive maneuvering.
A Bradley, K21 and so on is not designed for that type of combat. It's essentially an APC that drops off troops 100m from the fight. The CV9040 drops off troops within 0-50m from the enemy position, or simply drives up to it and let's the troops fight mounted.
In Afghanistan it was apparently tremendously deadly. The Danish or Norwegians were caught in some kind of fight/ambush and they annihilated the enemy.

The issue is familiarity, there are multiple systems and companies that has had decades of partnership with the US military. I can’t say which of the three are superior to the others. I do know all three platforms must meet US Army requirements, one of which is implementation of the General Dynamics’ new 50mm autocannon. I’m sure all three entries have sufficiently planned that part of the requirement. The Redback has, at least, one advantage over the other two entrants. If I’m not wrong, the Redback actually can transport more troops than the CV90 & Lynx. The US Army prefers more than 6 troops per unit as to not split a standard squad between two vehicles.

Not only weapons, In the Vietnam War, one American soldier was responsible for 20 Vietnamese soldiers, while a South Korean soldier was responsible for 100 Vietnamese soldiers. Soldiers from all countries around the world said that they were very fortunate that the South Korean military was not the enemy.
South Korea's shipbuilding capacity is number one in the world, and the newly developed KF-21 has shown remarkable technological prowess, with the first six prototypes certified as combat-ready without a single failure.
Not only that, but South Korea's ammunition is better than it's been known to be, with tungsten bullets having penetrating power comparable to that of U.S. depleted uranium bullets, and the technology to triple the range of all bullets is already in production. And its missiles are already the most destructive in the world, with the exception of nuclear missiles.
A missile called the Hyunmu-5 is outrageous.

I love the way this IFV presents itself and ALL "even" German new IFV's have "early stage" problems. But about some less known facts about current AS-21 development. As for now AS-21 "Redback" exists in 4 prototype units. It is important to emphasize that those units are not even early production units just assembled prototypes. 3 of them are tested in Australia (hot weather) and 1 is tested for the possibility to be adopted by the Armed Forces in Poland (very cold weather). Let me share some early conclusions, known to the public, from the Poland tests. As for now AS-21 "Redback" failed field tests. The turret which is originally offered to the Australian Armed Forces, and which is a non-Korean design, failed to work in cold temperatures, winter conditions in Poland, and it is said to be replaced with a design from a different manufacturer. The chassis itself also has many "early stage" technical problems and Koreans are currently working hard to make it work. This is just to show how much time it takes, how much work needs to be done, how difficult it actually is to meet the different market needs and make a modern military product.

Great video and content, I really enjoyed it. To clear the air amongst some of the remarks made in the comments section here, I would like to point out that Australia has not made a decision on either of the two contending companies as yet. The two year Risk Mitigation Activity commenced back in October 2019 and concluded on 8 October 2021. According to media releases and reports by the actual Australian soldiers testing the vehicles, both performed admirably. In my opinion, given the supply chain issues that were experienced with the Australian Army's troubled fleet of NH Industries MRH 90 Taipan helicopters, it may be prudent to choose South Korea. Thankyou.

Unfortunately tryal test in Australia and in Poland show that the k21 need a lot of improvements before it will be accepted. One of the issue is the tower stabilization among the othere issues.

Dends how you understand "cracked". Polish officials had very low expectations of israeli turret (as from other tests of they they knew they had excelent dust resistance, but very little when it comes to humidty protection- or something along this lines as that's all that opens sourses are willing to say) but hull was outright dissapinting- which was propably casued by the fact of it being prototype/tech demonstrator (not even preproduction series). From letter sent from army inspectorate we know that they are eager to put indeginous ifv into production while that unfortunate AS21 prototype was entierly ommited.
Despite this mishap it is still unknown weather they are willing to give AS21 another shot - like they gave to K2 which initially gained mixed rewiews from polish tankers due to incompattible with them ergonomy.

Where carried out right after they had a chance to do some Abrams evaluation so perhaps stark contrast was to blame for harsh opinions about them. K2 so in polish army is a PT-91 replacement so they are used to crap interiors.

The irony of he choice of the name of the name "Redback" was there was no record of that spider in Australia before 1860.
    It is introduced.

It was once thought that the Redback Spider, Latrodectus hasselti, was a sub species of the Black Widow Spider but it is now known to be a distinct species.
Recent research on the DNA sequences of all recognized Latrodectus species indicates that the Redback is a distinct species, most closely related to the New Zealand Katipo, and probably an Australian native.

It's so weird seeing so many polish people badmouth the Redback in the comments. Not just because poland bought a ton of Korean equipment and so should be the last ones insulting Korean equipment, but also because the Redback has quite a bit of international interest while the borsuk does not.
The Australian tests have been far more comprehensive and have proved that the Redback is at least as capable as the Lynx. Many rumors even suggest that the Redback is superior. This would suggest that the Redback is at the top of its class. Australia has a high chance of getting it and other countries like the US and Romania are interested as well. There are rumors of several other countries considering it as well.
But somehow the borsuk beat the Redback in every single test? You're saying that the borsuk is the greatest IFV in the world but only the polish know about it? Seems to me that bias is more likely here.
