What many analysts leave out is that South Korea's weapons development could not have happened if they didn't have core industries already in place. Yes, South Korea makes high quality tanks, self-propelled artillery and armored personnel vehicles but before all that South Korea made world class cars, trains, ships and construction equipment. That allows a country to have the infrastructure, the engineering base and technological base to make high quality tanks, APCs and SPHs. South Korea manufactures competitive missiles, smart bombs and radars but that's because they have a highly competitive electronics and semiconductor industrial base. South Korea makes good submarines, frigates and destroyers? Well, they have a world leading shipbuilding industry too. This is something that a country like India forgets. You cannot make world class tanks, armored vehicles or submarines if you have none of the already existing civilian manufacturing infrastructure that your defense industry can feed off of. You have to start with the basics before you have the ability to create a well developed and sustainable military industrial complex. None of this is easy and requires DECADES of sustainable focus and buy-in from both government and the populace to build something stable, but incremental, over time to realize results after 40, 30 and 20 years into the future.

You are right. (1) SK has the technology, STEM and industry base (2) SK just bench-marks the trend of the US weapons and its development orientation (3) SK picks the target (within the present or potential reach of its capability) and optimizes the product concept (4) very rapid and economic R&D and extensive testing ...
Let me elaborate a little on the point (2)...
First example. The US began developing 'all-in-one' electronic fuse for 155 mm shells, in 2022... SK has started developing the equivalent in 2024.... And SK will combine this all-in-one electronic fuse with anti-jamming-capable trajectory-modifying fuse into one piece, within the target cost for R&D and for mass production.
Second example. The US Navy succeeded in developing a new generation of anti-radar missile (AARGM-ER) in 2021. The US Air Force was so impressed that it began upgrading this anti-rada supersonic missile (propelled by a solid fuel ramjet) to all-purpose version (SiAW) in 2022. One of the greatest differences is in the seeker. The Air Force version added infrared. SK began developing air-launched supersonic missile. AARGM-ER or SiAW is slightly off the reach of SK's capabilities since it involves a very high technological barrier. Still SK decides to go with it in 2023 for its indigenous fighter, KF-21. And SK just wants to skip the AARGM-ER and seems to have made the all-purpose model(SiAW) as its target. It will take about 10 years, But if SK succeeds in developing a comparable one, it will reach a higher level of supersonic cruise missile technology.
Third example. In a sense, KF-21, the indigenous model, looks like an upgraded Super Hornet with twin-engined F-22 form factor. The F-35 has the single engine fuselage, which limits its internal space. The US ditched the idea of a 'twin engine stealth' fighter when it decided to retire the F-22. South Korea, with the consultation from Lockeed Martin, picked up this twin engine structure. One of the reasons is that anyway there is little chance for South Korea to have the bargaining power to procure the state-of-art (TIT temperature exceeds 1900 degree celsius) engine from the US. (If you cannot buy a powerful one for a single engine structure, you can use two of less-powerful engines..).. But here kicks in the real trick. South Korea has the technology to optimize the fuselage, using all sorts of brand new high-tech materials such as carbon fiber and 'glue'. The current version's internal fuel tank can carry 6.6 ton of fuel. Still there is 'hidden(extra)' 6 metric meter space within the fuselage. For a 4.5 gen fighter, this extra space can be used for fuel tank, making KF-21 with 'the longest internal-fuel-only range' . For a 5 gen variant, this extra space can be used as the internal weapon bay. In short, fuselage technology together with electronics/sensors/chips has revived F-22's twin-engine structure.
South Korea (as this episode aptly pointed) is on the crossroad in this ever-more-becoming-polarized world. It has the potential and capability to become the arsenal of the West, even surpassing France, especially several years after KF-21 reaches the IOC(initial operational capability) stage in 2027, I suppose. But can South Korea cope with this dangerous business? Beijing is less than 1,000 kw away from Seoul.
What would be the response of China as South Korea is arming itself with the most sophisticated indigenous Missile Defense? With terrifying Diesel-AIP-Lithium submarines with 4,000 ton displacement and with (non-nuke) ballistic missile tubes? (Three-month submerge.. though it is slower than a nuclear-powered sub, it is much quieter... ideal for ambush around the Peninsula)... Thousands of intermediate range non-nuke ballistic/cruise missiles covering almost all of China... with high-end UAVs such as long-endurance ISR and attack model, or unmanned stealth fighter model, or stealth flying-wing model.... a few tens of medium weight reconnaissance satellites (Electro-Optical or Infra-Red or SAR) and hundreds ( a constellation) of very small SAR satellites. ... How will China respond?
One thing is clear. South Korea has not chosen to destabilize this region. It is China, by arming North Korea with nukes and ballistic missiles, who started the chicken game involving the US, South Korea and Japan. And when it comes to a chicken game, South Koreans are masters. Since this country is a free republic, it is no big deal if the President gets nuked. There are many, many 'somebody-else's' who can run the country. But North Korea and China are different. The state exists for the top echelon of the party and for the leader. China cannot go on as the present polity if this upper crust is crushed.
An all-in game has started. Freedom and independence are our choice. War and peace are their choice. Meanwhile, South Koreans cannot help developing and producing very, very terrifying (non-nuke) stuff.

For last 30 years, major European arms exporting countries (France, Germany, UK, Italy, Spain) reduced their defense spendings and weapon development. But South Korea maintained its defense spending, weapon development and investment. France maintained its arms export with Rafale fighter jet. Russia and China use Russian standard weapons. SK become one of the largest suppliers of NATO standard weapons ranging from small arms to fighter jet or submarine. Western weapons are generally expensive for smaller counties. But Korean weapons are quite affordable and reliable as SUV cars from Hyundai or Kia. She will be 4-th largest arms exporter in few years, surpassing China. No wonder considering that South Korea is major exporter of automobile, electronics, smartphone, semiconductor, and shipbuilding.

The chinese were united in fighting the imperial japanese army and finally managed to expel them.
But on other side, indians were colonised by imperial British for 250 years . The indians were not divided but divided along religion, caste and race.
The worst part is many indians worked for british as cheap labourers and mercenary soldiers.
The indian soldiers massacred their own people under the white British orders.
The indian mutiny against the British failed because the Indians were not united where some soldiers revolted and others were loyal to their white masters.
Indians should be shamed for themselves for not united and killing their own kind under the order of foreign masters.
The lal bagh massacre in delhi is good example.
It was reported some 3 million indian soldiers fought for colonial masters not for liberating india but to expand the imperial British rule over other countries. 😂

Eastern Europe and the Middle East have been buying Korean weapons. And the Koreans are fiercely marketing their goods in Africa, where Chinese weapons are dominant. The future of SOKO's arms industry lies on Africa, in which many countries are using Chinese arms except Senegal and a few.
