- This Porsche 718 Cayman GTS in Python Green is an absolute monster. With a 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-six, the Cayman GTS puts down 394 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque. Does it handle better than a 911 Carrera?

I love this car so much. Attainable for a middle age guy like me. I would get the 6-speed so there would be zero chance my wife could drive it.
Hahaha. Found this so funny.
Your are a brilliant man!!!!!!
Right on. I just got mine after 19 month wait. Such a special car.
@@HaitiCult What color did you get? I want to live through you lol.
@@ikemadethis894 Metallic Black, silver Turbo rims.
The 718 platform is incredible. In fact, the base model is an amazing drive. I have one and have no issue pushing GT4s and GTRs in the canyons. The chassis really delivers the most smiles per dollar of any other car around!
Great video 🤓!!! I recently acquired my 2023 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 which has the 4L NA flat six cylinder engine (same unit as a GT4) and a PDK gearbox. Power output (394 bhp) and torque (317 lb-ft) are a nice match to this car's sensible curb weight (~3200 lbs). The color is Gentian Blue metallic with a black/chalk all-leather interior and silver wheel rims. It's definitely an entertaining driver's car!
So far, I've only done 326 miles but hopefully a lot more this next summer! The PDK is also a lot of fun (it's definitely quick) 🤓
All the best and thanks again from Colorado!
"Porsche...There is No Substitute!!!"
Terrific spec!!!
This is the best price/performance Porsche that’s still somewhat obtainable used. What a car!
You may find the interior dated, but it's a classic and will never go out of style. The huge screens that dominate new cars will age very poorly. Imagine your iPhone 15 in 10 years, will you still like it? And what will it be like to drive a BMW M2 with its 2023 Samsung screen 10 years from now?
The problem with tech is that tech dates very rapidly, think of your smartphone, laptop etc An interiors design may age, but design is a personal thing. Plenty of people love the look of old classic car interiors. Tech on the other hand, universally get's old. Worse than that it becomes disfunctional after a time as it will become incompatible eventually with modern tech as it advances. Worst case in 20 years time the Porsche will have a single screen off to one side that'll be redundant, loads of the apps in the BMW system will stop functioning completely and you'll be left with a large screen with plenty of icons that don't do anything in 10 - 15 years time staring you in the face. Knowing Porsche they'll likely come up with a slot in replacement for the PCM system with more up to date tech in it. They've done it for older models already. BMW (and VW, Merc, Renault and all the other marques with so much tech) on the other hand will just ignore their old cars and let them become useless over time.
I love the interior. Long may it last!
Picking my 718 GTS 4.0 on Thursday. I can’t wait. Your videos were part of the reason I went this route over a 992. These things are beats, a great daily, and a track MONSTER.
I have to disagree on the dated interior comment. This interior will be timeless. The new cars with all that tech will look like an Atari in 10 years time when it’s outdated and the processors can’t run the software. You buy this car and keep it forever and look at the analog gauges like a fine analog watch. Modern designs are not necessarily better , basically the same as modern buildings don’t hold a candle to centuries old architecture. This car will be worth what you pay for it in 10 years. That square M2 will be worth ….. it will be in the shop most likely. Also I own an E46 M3. Timeless interior in that too.
All interiors age, there is no running away from that. Interior design language is a constantly evolving thing, and I don't think we've ever had any interior in any car that could be considered timeless. We're just not there yet. IMO, any car without a digital dash in 5 years will give out grandpa's car or teenager's first car vibe.
@@Dragobrath Agree all interiors age, but nothing ages as quickly as tech, becasue nothing advances as quickly as tech. Whatever tech you use, in whatever circumstances (TV, laptop, smartphone, car media/entertainment systems etc) all are out of date in a matter of months. Sure the Porsche's interior isn't timeless, but because it has less tech it's not going to feel as out of date as the BMW in a years time. In a years time everybody (who even cares about tech - because not everyone does) is going to be complaining about how old and out of date the tech is in the BMW. In the Porsche, it's already dated, so it can't be worse in a year from now.
Plus as you say interior design language is constantly evolving, and if there's one thing that's always been true about any design, it's that the harder the designer tries to make their design "futuristic" the faster it dates. The ipad stuck on the dash look is going to look extremely dated in 5 years once the design language moves on, ironically probably back to integrating tech back in to the dash (because where else can they go with it? - headsup displays don't need screens in/on the dash at all).
@@jamesmay1322 I agree with you that tech dates faster, but having less tech and physical dashes isn't going to help with making the car feel less old. Anything that does not have a digital dash will feel extremely outdated very soon.
@@jamesmay1322 Agreed, a tastefull interior with analog gauges will age better than a futuristic interior with lights and screens. Much like a well designed mechanical watch versus the iwatch. I'm cool with this interior, much more than the one in the current M2 for example.
I would agree if it was fully vintage but fact is it already has a stale underpowered screen and to top it off, Porsches infamous missing option. Sorry mate, nothing timeless about that center. The car is great but that is no reason to backwards rationalize. Leave the circle jerking to the Tesla crowd.
I bought this car because of the drive and available 6speed manual. I hate tech and love buttons! And it does not have panamera lights the panamera has Cayman lights.
The rear of the Cayman and the overall shape (outline and roof slope) is actually more beautiful to me than the 911.
Agree
I see it exactly the same way. But this Python Green is really very ugly and doesn't flatter the car at all. Maybe he thinks so because of the terrible color
Nothing wrong with that interior more analog the better. More buttons, less touch screens
I love the backend!!!! are you crazy !!! Its a car that never dies in design
I see it exactly the same way. Maybe he thinks so because of the terrible color that doesn't flatter the car at all
Wow, this is the best car review I've already watched in TH-cam.
I'm a filmmaker myself and after watch a car review with those "cinematic" insertions and soundtrack I'm very impressed!
Keep up with the good work.
Thanks we appreciate it!!!
just loved your style and infectious enthusiasm, such a change from the tired cliches of most YTubers. Just got a GTS myself in a more shy gt silver hue and absolutely love it, worth every penny, to get this fun in a 992 would be 30k more which is too much for me. Very happy with my little porsche
Great video as usual Mike! I’ve got the Boxster 25th in 6-speed manual (of course😂) and as good as the PDK is and awesome to launch, there is no comparison to rowing your own IMO. Btw, if you’re not going to track, which 95% of buyers will not, get the 18-way seats and ditch the sport buckets. Cayman as daily driver and Boxster if weekend cruiser.
As for price, find me a better all-around sports car for the money? Keep the videos coming, well done!
How does this video have no views? I watched it last week and liked it so much I went to watch again.
Shucks! The video hasn’t been posted officially yet. Guess we accidentally added it to a playlist!
Because we watched it last week and this just got uploaded 8 minutes ago
@@ACCELER8TV great job! Awesome videos. I'm waiting for my Boxster GTS coming this July. Oakville Porsche is my dealer. Your content is so well done!!
Great video of the Cayman with pros and cons 👍
Nice video keep up the good work fella
M2 when I was younger. GTS 4.0 all day for the finer things in life when a bit older.
40% higher price 😢
I just ordered mine in chalk 😮💨 Manual, LEDs, bronze wheels, black brakes, GTS interior in black/chalk, Cant wait
EPIC!
Excellent review can’t wait to get mine
I have the normal seats and it is really easy to live with. I love the Green (I have it). Jealous of the PS4S, ours in the UK come with P Zeros. Great video :)
I have the manual version, same colour and use it as my daily. It's a lot of fun and a head turner.
Mike's sunglasses during the 0-60 mph run was more impressive than the car. I feed off Mike's positivity, especially after a long crappy day. Keep up the great work gentlemen,
Ravi Peiris M.D. (2011 Maybach 57s owner)
Adaptive cruise control is available though on these cars as a stand alone option, but only for the PDK versions since it shifts automatically to change speeds. Manual doesn’t get ACC. What’s cool is the car in your video has the carbon fiber seats.
Perfect length
I’m waiting on the call mine is ready for pickup. I just followed it online across the ocean and now it’s waiting on an inspection and a truck to my dealers place. I’m getting psyched!
Please make a video for Boxster gts 4.0 as well
Good video but you should study up on available options on the 718 GTS Caymans and Boxsters--adaptive cruise is an available option (and I personally hate adaptive cruise control and so glad it isn't on my 2022 718 Boxster GTS 4.0).
You can open the trunk by waving your hand near the black lettering.
Nice beautifully done review.
A purist car. You couldn’t have said it better. You got a new subscriber after you said that. 👍
This is my next Porsche, after I pay off the 981 that is.
Yes it handles better than the 911..
Porsche has done great work arounds on the rear engine weight bias, but at the end of the day, you can’t beat physics.
A mid-engined Porsche, there is no substitute.
i love my gts 4.0 black in black ✌
The car is not dated its an icon its so well known and still sells really well yes it's old but they made a car that never ages its fast it handles like its on rails its economical! Its a beast and its lovely
Flat 6, 4.0L, naturally aspirated rocket. I don't believe for the money, there is a more realistic and "semi-attainable" ultra performance sports car on the market. Literally built only for one thing. Putting a smile on a driver.
1. Really wish the GTS4 came with the option to have the front grille, the side air intakes and the back "bumper" painted in the same exterior color as the rest of the car.
2. While you were lamenting the uncomfortable buckets seats, you should have mentioned that they are a $5900 upgrade and that the standard sport plus seats that come with the car are much more comfortable.
Funny about the cup holders. They aren’t great and they swing around with a drink in them on the corners. They will spill on stuff. So I use a bike water bottle or locking coffee thermos. That said. I would miss them if they were gone.
It sounds even better with a quality exhaust system… and cruise control that’s not adaptive, that’s a big enough reason to buy it alone..
Is this vehicle the replacement for the discontinued GT4? The performance metrics seem similar. I would assume the competition would be the C8 Stingray and Lotus Emira. Anyway, nice video and fantastic attitude during your review. Keep up the good work.
Gettin some weird deja vu right about now lol
Had to make some adjustments to the video
Lol me too. Then I realized it was reposted. This car is so epic.
When does the Spoiler open? Is there a button to open it?
The rear spoiler extends automatically above approx. 125 km/h (78 mph) and retracts again below approx. 80 km/h (50 mph). It can also be extended and retracted manually using the button in the centre console. When the rear spoiler is in manual mode, the indicator light on the button lights up.
Love your energy and style
As much as I hate to say it out loud, the Cayman is a MUCH BETTER drive and more fun a car than the 911. The 911 aesthetics are stunning to me..... but if you're spending that kind of money, it better leave me drooling and not sleepy like the 911.... aside from that, the handling is second to none, no understeer like the 911.... just a 718 glued to the road. Ask me how I know? I did the comparison at the LA Porsche Experience last year. I'm going to test drive the Carrera 4s, but not holding my breath.
I just tried to spec a Cayman and a Boxter and neither offered Python green anymore.😮
Yeah.. I had to get guards red
@@skippynj1979 what interior and gauge color did you choose?
@@davidziska4482 agate grey leather interior ... And guards red... Bose and heated steering wheel are the only options..
If you have a chance to make a video about the new 2024 Toyota Highlander ? im trying to buy one but i don't know really anything about it.
There is NO substitute!!!
This Green I hate I have it in Racing yellow and it is beuty:)
lol. the back is the best bit. and im' getting rid of the logo on the doors, and back, as im not 18 years old
Porsche 911 Touring over this.👍
Porsche cayman gts all day and all night over M2 unless you need back seats. There is no comparison to M2 different leagues of cars period.
Yeah and 40% more expensive
Most of the things you like, I hate - and most of the things you hate, I like LOL
true no one is really gonna buy this car for the interior, its more about performance and its sporty look
I really have a feeling that they did not want Cayman to step on the toes of 911. So they pushed buyers who value interior, comfort and presence more towards 992. Cayman GTS already outperforms the base model, and if it had a proper updated interior, base 992 would make 0 sense.
@@Dragobrath agreed
no one? really? you know everyone on the planets opinion? I for one think Porsche interiors are the best available. I have no interest in having a jarring ipad stuck on my dash, surrounded by cheap looking silver edged plastic and fake carbon. I own cars to drive, I don't even listen to music when driving. I have no interest in tech in cars, in fact the less the better. If it's not improving the performance of the vehicle even in terms of handling or performance it has no place in a car in my view. Well not as sports car anyway, in a family mobile maybe if you need to keep the kids quiet sure. Tech dates in about 5 minutes, if I want up to date tech I have my smartphone for navigation or music (cars have been able to connect phones for decades) or to order a pizza. Sure as hell don't want or need my car to do it. Tech in a drivers car, nope not needed.
These cars are simply amazing… handling is sublime. Balance is beautiful.Performance is outstanding… so underrated. But for those who know, know… absolute bargain !
As of may 2021 the wait time to get one is 3 years. If you want a 6 cylinder cayman you will have to buy a 2013-2016 981.
Depends on the dealer I suppose, I'm on the waitlist here in Montreal and we are looking at 6 months to a year depending on how the allocations turn out. And there are 3 new GTS cars available within 500km.
Interior is not dated. I’d say very nice. I wish all the screens of today would go away.
Good video until the end. Complaining about the price of the them. If you want cheap get the base. But if you want an RS Porsche it's going to cost you.
I do agree the interior electronics seem dated but this is their drivers models so they keep it to a minimum. Want more get the 911
thats exactly why I bought this pure 4 liter dreamcar ... the less digital shit the better...who cares if there empty buttons in this car..driving is all you must do with the Cayman...why stressing yourself with headup displays etc...the more digital nonsense in a car the more it can break...
is this car rwd?
Yep!
regular porsche seats are the best. .comfort matters
Omg. Why the Porsche is so cheap in Canada?
In Australia, the cheapest 718 gts starts AUD 200K.
That colour isnt for me!. . I'd go with Black with Two Tone black/Bordeux red interior
I disagree that the Porsche panel is dated. It is a huge evolution from the first Caymans, yet not taking you into Samsung monitor territory of the BMW M2 which is very eBay replacement display looking to me. BMW has come up with some heavily criticized designs lately and I agree with the critics, the new set of BMW's is just ugly from a lot of angles.
I hate this color lol but the car is a beast, I didn’t know these performed like this
Haha the colour isn’t for everyone
The color is the best part!! You have to get a sports car in a fun color
...such a sad boy! had to lookup YOLO
So the BMW M440i is similarly fast for half the price, offering way more more features and safety. Got it!
Porsche is higher quality and a lighter/better handling car
Yeah but is it a Porsche? Exactly.
@@darrylgarcia9147 Which is a VW... Lol!!
Where did you get more safety from? As for it being a VW.. yeah right, that's why it has a Porsche badge on it. Buy the cheaper BMW, that's your choice, but in 10 years time i'll not only be half the price of the 10 year old Cayman it'll be more like a 10th the price, so you save buying new and then you lose selling on. What BMW has ever sold more than list? With Porsches, sometimes they depreciate (usually far slower than most other cars) and sometimes they appreciate in value (all models not just the GT models), you never know. Apart from actual classics and things like Ferarri's very few other marques do that when still less than 20 years old.

Save your coins. When you are 28. Get a higher mileage 2008-2009 for $30k. 95% of the fun for 1/4 the price. 🧐
better to buy a used 2016 GT4 with under 30k kms . its a proper GT product and will be collector item.
True in theory but know your mechanic REAL well.
They market it as the last internal combustion engine cayman, but what does it offer that's better than an electric car, aside from engine noise and exhaust sound? It lacks torque and responsiveness.
It offers fun, electric cars have not been that fun so far (other than going in a straight line).
@@ACCELER8TV From the Ioniq 5 N model onwards, there will be changes, particularly in electric vehicle technology. For instance, electronic control technology that was originally developed for electric cars is now being adapted to internal combustion engine vehicles, and they are reaping the benefits from these advancements.
@@ACCELER8TV Try Taycan 4S or GTS. After driving that for a day, I really got some blasphemous thoughts about replacing Cayman with it. One thing that kept me is the fact that current Taycan is a first gen EV, which is still heavy and lacks range. And it depreciates HEAVILY.
Other than that, it really feels like just a bigger and heavier sportscar. It's unbelievable how well it can carve corners. And the instant torque from AWD makes it exceptionally fun on the exits. I don't know why many driving enthusiasts dismiss that.
I am really looking forward to Cayman EV.
The smell of nepalm in the morning.
Not everyone wants instant torque. There are people who prefer the linear power delivery of a naturally aspirated engine, where you need to rev it out to get max power and performance. Even before EV plenty of people had no interest in turbo cars because of the way they made power. You either get it or you don't.
So apart from being dated, has an ugly arse, is uncomfortable and a lacklustre engine note until insane revs and speed (6000revs in 3rd gear! Wtf is that like 170klm hr?), its a good car! 😆
too small for me, 911 4S is my choice.
Was cross shopping this against a 992S. Both amazing cars and I had a difficult time deciding. Chose the GTS 4.0 since I just turned 40 and have my whole life for a 911. Bath cars serve different and amazing purposes. The 718 is definitely the more “sports car,” where the 992 is a bonkers touring car.
He just compared this Porsche to a honda. Not cool.
i still think i would take a C8 Z51 over this
I literally had to make this decision. I passed on the cayman, but man was it a very tough decision to make!
love the python green, I plan on upgrading to a GTS 4.0 in 2025.
Saving my coin 🪙 now maybe in a few years 😂 I can get one ☝️
