    How to be a man:
    1. Be as tranquil as a forest, but on fire within.
    2. Find your center.
    3. Be swift as the coursing river, with all the force of a great typhoon.
    4. With all the strength of a raging fire, mysterious as the dark side of the moon.

      SaidSheThatsWhat Sure there is. The sun shines on one half of the moon, the other half is the "dark side"... it's called NIGHT.
      However, it truly is no more mysterious than the daylight side. The "far side" is a different matter.

      Yep, it's surprisingly un-obvious. Sometimes when talking about a remote location I like to lower my voice and in a deep mysterious tone say "It's located on the dark side of the earth!!!" (when appropriate, of course). You can make any place sound irresistably exotic that way.

    As a heterosexual man, maybe it's more important to be a "lady's man" (not saying that I am) than a "man's man". I'm kind of a modern guy. I like sports. I do my own auto maintenance. I like sex as much as the next guy, and I like beer even more than the next guy does. However, I also believe in not being a total tool towards women, and the importance of treating her like a lady. Many of us have daughters or sisters, and we all have mothers. Dudes need to evolve to a point when being a heterosexual man doesn't mean just the desire to bang chicks. We should enjoy the company of women, and thoroughly appreciate all that makes them feminine and interesting. I'm not saying that I'm above feeling just raw, primal, carnal attraction. Sure, I have seen gorgeous women, and have found myself unable to properly separate mere aesthetic attraction from carnal desire, but I believe it is possible to be respectful, while not repressing the primal part of my masculinity.

    • @dothedeed
      @dothedeed 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      But a man's man is what attracts ladies - thus your argument fails. Most women still want a man that's taller than she is (no matter how tall she is), makes more money than she does (no matter how much she makes), and is stronger then she is etc etc

    • @rodneycooperjr3223
      @rodneycooperjr3223 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      dothedeed That wasn't an argument. It was just an opinion. Anyway, I'm not weak by any sense of the word. Further, I happen to think that the views I've expressed enhance my strength, and do nothing to diminish my manhood. I'm talking about evolving, friend.

  • @willemverheij3412
    @willemverheij3412 9 ปีที่แล้ว +200

    I gues everyone defines it differently what makes a guy a man.
    Personly I dont care about sports, I dont drink alcohol, Can't really repair anything, can't grow a good beard and dont feel a need to discuss the looks of all attractive women I see walking by if I am standing with other guys.
    But to me that doesnt make someone a man. Taking responsibility for your actions, and treating women properly is though. To me thats the difference between a boy and a man.
    That and I find it more important what women consider to be a man than what other men consider to be a man.

    • @WiggaMachiavelli
      @WiggaMachiavelli 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Willem Verheij "That and I find it more important what women consider to be a man than what other men consider to be a man."
      And this is, by definition of the term "man's man" (which is the topic of the video), what disqualifies you from being one.

    • @willemverheij3412
      @willemverheij3412 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mr. T.B. There is room for both, I tend to persue what interests please me, but not at the expense of other people.
      And it pleases me to try and be a gentleman towards women in a time when chivalry seems pretty much dead.
      In a bus I'll always stand up for a woman if theres not enough seats, for old men too.
      It just doesnt feel right when I dont do it.

    • @ozix01
      @ozix01 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Look, i'm not judging any of you... ok, maybe a little bit, but being a gentlemen is not about giving your seat to healthy woman in the bus who clearly can live trough a couple of bus stop on their feet. You want to be a gentlemen? A men of the people? Good on you, But being a gentlemen is not about trying to score some imaginary "good guy" points with the ladys, it's about trying your best to help others in need, it's about being pleasant, respectful and well mannered.
      So please, dont give me this " I'll always stand up for a woman if theres not enough seats". Would you give your seat if the were only healthy guys on that bus, and if not what do you think this makes you, a gentlemen or a white knight full of misplaced good intentions? I'm going with the latter.

    • @willemverheij3412
      @willemverheij3412 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mr. T.B. Well I do aim to be pleasant, respectfull and well mannered. Maybe I am a bit old fasioned but I simply try to be courteous to women.
      I'm not doing this to try and hook up with a girl, I'm simply trying to provide a counter balance to the many pigs out there who give us men a bad name. Just showing them there's still descent men around.
      Not that I mean that men who dont stand up for women are not descent, I just mean that there are quite a few men very abusive towards women.

      hadezmage Well sports are okay I guess even though I'm not into them, but alchohol shouldn't be encouraged by society at all, there's nothing manly or attractive about a substance that causes violence, road accidents, unsafe sex and brain damage.

    Steps on being a man.
    1. BE FEARLESS
    2. GIVE NO SHIT
    3. GIVE NO SHIT ABOUT STEREOTYPES (or what man is suppose to be)
    4. NO FAPPING, AND NO PORN, PURE HARDCORE DISCIPLINE
    5. BE NO SLAVE TO THE MIND (Refer to step 4)
    6. BE FEARLESS OF OPINION OF OTHERS

    • @TheIronMax
      @TheIronMax 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Phanteus I actually prefer to be a gentelman, it's nicer to the world to have more gentelman rather than "man", it's quite simple:
      1.- Be respecfull.
      2.- Don't swear
      3.- Smile to everyone
      4.- Be helpful
      5.- Be confident
      6.- Perform random acts of kindness
      and the most important of all keep always your word (Don’t make a promise if you’re going to break it or if you cand do it)
      If every man followed this rules the world would be a real nice place.

      I know this is going to sound very tumblr-esque, but I don't think gender is something to be fulfilled. If someone identifies as a man and they masturbate, they're still as much of a man as any other man. Not all men objectify the gender(s) they're attracted to. Although I'm attracted to men and look at porn, I don't harass them or treat them as less of a human being than anyone else, and I wouldn't think anyone else does (unless they're an asshole, but that's a whole other problem). And as much as I hate admitting this, if those assholes identify as men, they still have the right to be considered men.

    All of these are, except jars, but I'll explain why this isn't because "I'm not a mans man"
    Can't grow convincing facial hair - that all depends on levels of testosterone, something you can't control without pharmaceuticals
    Concerned about the presence of bugs - how does jumping away from something that pops out of nowhere make you less manly?
    Alcohol tastes like fire - it does taste like fire. People who say it doesn't are lying, and they're lying because they don't want people to think they aren't manly, but IMO, integrity/honesty is more important than pretending to enjoy straight spirits.
    Helpless at auto-repair - so because I spend my time learning stuff more useful than auto-repair, I'm not manly? It should be that people who don't study science aren't manly.
    Shy away from ogling women - my workmates ogle women all the time, I don't join in because I think it's disrespectful, she is someone's sister/daughter/mother/wife, I'm not going to go all crazyhorny and start going "damn dat ass is fi-ine" just so people think I'm manly.
    Sports not being your strong suit - jeez this stereotype... why is liking sports manly? Why isn't being academic more manly than liking sports?

    • @kevinly6368
      @kevinly6368 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is how it's been for the past centuries. I myself am not a "ladies man" but you can never change these stereotypes.

    • @TheFlammableGas
      @TheFlammableGas 9 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      You can control your testosterone levels. Eating right and regular exercise increases your testosterone levels. Stop making excuses for your laziness.
      Pissing your pants over a tiny fucking spider is effeminate. Stop making excused for your cowardice.
      If you have a car, then you should know how to maintain it. The underlying message is self-sufficiency, not necessarily auto repair.
      You don't need to ape out when checking out women. No matter how much of a fedora-tipping white knight you act like, it'll all be in vain because it's not like women will think highly of you for not being attracted to them.
      You don't need to like sports, but rather be athletic and enjoy things that require teamwork and coordination.

      Avalanche Being manly is impossible.
      Manliness is subjective. It's like beauty, or justice, orpity, or love. Every one of these are human ideas, with no reality by itself.
      Everybody has his own definition of love, and justice and manliness, but at the end of the day, it's not real, and since it's not, it's impossible to achieve.
      Conclusion : to be 'manly' you need a Y chromosome, and deal with the rest as best as you can.
      Oh and don't take it the wrong way : you can be in love with someone, and it's very real for you, but it's not for me, not for anyone else. It's your reality, not THE reality. That's what I mean by "not real". If you're not here to express it, it stops existing.

    The best way to help gain true equality in this world is to throw out societies expectations on what a man should be.

    • @Djentard
      @Djentard 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Achieving true equality is very hard. It's nothing that will magically be achieved by sissifying men.

    • @Arella17
      @Arella17 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Djentard
      Its only considered sissifying because of societal constraints on what men should be. Consider this cooking a professional field that is fairly male dominated is still considered by marketing companies and many people to be too feminine for men to want to pursue.

    • @Djentard
      @Djentard 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Arella17 I'm sorry, but we as species of animal have hundred of thousands of years (hell, fucking millions) of evolution behind us and men were always the stronger, more dominant gender that was hunting for the family. It's in our nature, simple as that.
      It can be changed, however, but believing it can be done in a matter of a generation or two (or even half a millennium) is cute, very cute. Ofcourse you can force the genders to go against their very own nature, but that is a very (excuse the misuse of the word) fascist thing to do. Should we let men who are effeminate be effeminate, sure. Same with masculine women, if they want, let them. But politically supporting some radical feminist idea of the abolishment of genders, no, no, no.
      We should seek true harmony, not true equality. Where man helps woman and woman helps man in their respective fields where they lack. Because what you are trying to achieve is to find one unique butterfly, a very beautiful, but a very rare and unique butterfly, it only exists 1-10 of them, that rare, in a rain forest.
      Good luck.

    • @gc6329
      @gc6329 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lmao, its comments like these that make me cringe. To gain equality we don't need to throw out our identities, we just need to learn to respect other peoples identities and realize that every person and culture has their pro and cons. Not become one giant grey human blob.

    Ok, I just wanted to point out, when it comes to women liking guys like this, it is all personal preference. I know that I am not attracted to a 100% "man's man". I like guys who are awkward and skinny. I am more attracted to skinny guys than to muscular guys (Truth!). But I know that it is because (And No Judging, Because You All Know It's True) my father was very skinny and he was my rock growing up. Thus, I feel like I idealized him, which extends to my choice in partner. That's how it works, people!

    2: I used to grow a wicked beard, looked like wolverine (loved it) but hated the itch of facial hair
    3: I act as if bugs don't matter to me, but put me in the presence of a pine beetle, expect a ear piercing shriek of terror
    4: I can drink as if I had a void at the end of my mouth, but I gave up on it a few years ago because I found nothing appealing in the taste, and I found it a waste in money
    5: I was raised by a mechanic/electrician. I know my way around a vehicle
    6: I may be transitioning to female, but I've always been attracted to them, so I won't pass up taking in the beauty of another woman
    7: Jars...Why is there this strange understanding that jars are hard to open? I've never had any trouble opening them.
    8. Again, good at sports, just not religious about them
    9: I have a nice thin figure and soft delicate hands/wrists. Who really needs extra size to do daily stuff? I'm stronger than most guys I know :P

    I'm a transgender boy and everyday I feel the pressure to be hyper masculine even if I'm not. It's nice to see that even cis man go through this things.
