Well done Squid! After 70+ Years of motorcycling, with various British and Japanese motorcycles, my present little 1996 Honda 250 Rebel fits my bill nicely! It is now a classic cruiser motorcycle, simple and uncomplicated, with no unnecessary frills, and with its low, 320Lbs weight, and both feet firmly planted, is always easy to manage! perfect for local runs, and trips around the local countryside! I purchased a complete OEM exhaust system from Japan, to replace the rusty one, which cost me £600/750 USD! At 89 years age now my trusty Honda Rebel will last me out now! A wonderful purchase and she always brings a big grin to my face every time I ride her. Take care, all...!

@@TheHonestTruth Many thanks! The '85 model was the first Rebel, and was a Honda "copy" of the 1982 Harley-Davidson FXWG Wide Glide! (with a different engine!!). It was re-introduced in 1996 (the model I have) and continued in production until 2016, replaced by the Rebel 300cc Single, and the Rebel 500cc Parallel Twin. The 1985-2016 Rebels were, and are, the Classic Honda Rebel models! Take care!

If it was me I would look for some chrome exhaust tip resonators or mini mufflers that I could just add to ends of what is left of the exhaust pipes.

Not really. Its a simple air cooled engine that has been proven very reliable. This one has 20k miles. And the engine and transmission sound new
