      I had a very similar reaction to the Evolman stuff at first. I picked up on the obvious connections fairly quickly but it took me a while to figure out why Kaneshiro would dedicate the better part of a chapter to a story within the story (aside from just being a massive flex of course haha). Putting all of it together was my favourite part of writing this video though, to me it perfectly encapsulates why I love Blue Lock's writing so much!

  • @localsassboi

    46:46 ... i would've thought "evolmans" namesake comes from the fact that its "love" backwards... basically saying that Rin adopted destructive tendencies (evol) instead of positive ideas (love). Evolman's "Life is beautiful" finisher being the complete antithesis of Rin's destroyer mode.
    But your case makes more sense. But man, what can i say... amazing video as always. The idea of implementing the core of your inner child and become the best version of yourself is a beautiful concept to me, but my thought didn't go past Rin, Kaiser and Bachira. But you made some amazing points with Nagi (being a chick), Snuffy's role and the NEL as a whole. I'm hyped to see you coming back to that topic and continuing where you were going with Isagi. You read the novels so I think Isagi's journey to adulthood will be the most satisfying in the story once his arc concludes.
    Again, congrats to 2000 subs! (now 2080)

      Thanks so much, really appreciate all the support! Evol being love backwards almost made my jaw drop to the floor there, I hadn't ever considered that and now I'm starting to wonder whether there is anything to that. No reason why both couldn't be the case imo! I'll keep that in my mind and definitely give you credit if I manage to connect some dots at some point - Id don't rule that out at all, given all the attention to (self-)love in the NEL

    After watching I came to a realization about how Kunigami fits into the theme. Where he lost the childish dream of being a hero in the wildcard and how he is created by Ego to test the rest of the Blue lockers and is a supposed to be a copy of the most “adult” adult of Noa

    • @suzelsmanga
      @suzelsmanga  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I can definitely see this being the case! Still not entirely certain about what the outcome for Kunigami willl be in the NEL but I'm still holding out hope that he's still gonna get something big

  • @silversauceran

    This is a good discussion. Maybe Isagi’s transition to ‘adulthood’ under this theory would be to let go of his dream of being a genius player like others, like his hero Noa (who conveniently let him down recently) and his talented and abnormally physically gifted peers like Kira (formerly), Loki, Rin, and Kaiser, and take ownership of his own special brand of talent and adept play.

    • @suzelsmanga
      @suzelsmanga  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Great comments! I can very much imagine that being Isagi's lesson from all this. Also defintely agreed on the relevance of bad authority figures throughout the series, most notably the JFA itself - after all, the manga starts with a bunch of senior men who are presented with a plan to revolutionise Japanese football but only focus on Anri's appearance.

    Loving the last few videos even more than usual. Keep up the good work. Also good luck with the Patreon. Wish I could pledge, but medschool is a bitch lol.
    Kaneshiro really is a master of subtlety. To his own detriment in some respects since it seems like most of the nuances go over readers heads in favor of powerscaling. Makes me wonder where that subtlety was during the Ness flashback though lol.
    I really enjoy the differing ways the coaches are being presented contrasts with the themes of growing up. How Lavinho puts up a childish front with some underlying seriousness, while Chris does the opposite. Then we have Snuffy, having actually grown up, yet being unable to retain that childish spirit that a striker needs at their core. Noa is another good variation where his cold and calculated exterior mirrors that of an authoritative parent while the newest chapter shows that even he has his mind set on a youthful desire to get stronger under that facade of cool and calm collectedness at the peak.
    Closing out the arc with a match against the team lead by the one youth that has successfully made the transition into an adult/professional is a perfect bow on this wonderful arc. Additionally, the opposing approaches of Loki and Noa, with one training a teammate while the other training a rival, show the two approaches used by Isagi himself, which in turn sets up their inevitable clash in the world cup finals against France. I know Kiyora Jin is a borderliner, but it seems like that name is even more fitting for our adaptability genius.
    There's so much more to gush about but as you said yourself, it might be better to wait for the arc to close out to catch even more retroactively brilliant hints that have been laid down.

      Really appreciate that Macey! These past three videos were all ideas I've been stewing on for quite a while now and they've genuinely been some of the most exciting projects I've ever done on the channel.
      You're absolutely right about the master strikers there. I actually gained a lot more respect for Lavinho when I reread his sections for this video, he's really been done dirty by the fandom imo and I'll hopefully have an opportunity to further explore his philosophy sometime down the line.
      And as you said the most recent chapter set up a really interesting parallel between Noa and Loki, which I'm very keen to explore further down the line!
      Also don't worry at all about the Patreon, I was a broke grad school student myself up to a year and a half ago so I know all about the struggles haha. Doesn't mean I appreciate the support any less ❤️

    Great video as always suzels! It’s kind of crazy how much detail and care has went into the NEL and I’m hoping the author keeps up for the future matches even if some people don’t quite like some of the themes he tries to express with the matches. Btw do you think the next arc will be the u-20 World Cup? And if so who do you think they’ll play first?

    • @suzelsmanga
      @suzelsmanga  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for all your support! And yeah, I keep getting more and more impressed with Kaneshiro's vision and how thoroughly the entire story is integrated within it. As for the next arc, I do think it'll be the U20 WC, with a short breather in between (kinda like post U20 match). If I were to hazard a guess about their first opponent, I suspect the first match will be about showing the success of Blue Lock to the world. So I'd say they would get a stomp against a respectable football nation. Maybe something like Croatia, Portugal or the Netherlands? My limited knowledge of football is very much centered around Europe so fill in some comparable South American or Asian nations as well

    Hi! Thanks for another great analysis, although I always say this, it needs to be conveyed. I definitely understand the struggle to try to make something simple/concise and then ending up producing a whole different monster, but in your case, I can only be thankful about the quality you're providing us with these longer videos.
    This video in particular tackled a lot of themes that are very near and dear to me. The NEL is definitely focused on the rite of passage from childhood to adulthood and the master strikers represent each a different "parenting style" with their respective flaws and virtues. I'd like to focus especially on Snuffy and Noa.
    - Snuffy is the nurturing and reassuring figure that will always be there for you, protecting you and even taking blame for you. This particular philosophy is perfect for someone like Lorenzo who was always alone fending for himself. Snuffy filled an important void in his life, allowing him to prosper without the literal fear of starving to death. Other "children" though might not find Snuffy's parenting all that useful, especially ones who never had to go through hardships on thier own, since by eliminating every preoccupation, Snuffy ends up coddling them and stunting their personal development as self-sufficient adults. The fact that this all stems from his trauma and his desire to protect others from Mic's fate is so bittersweet, and I find absolutely beautiful that Barou, a child who knows what it means to "die", is the one who makes Snuffy face his deep rooted fears, allowing him to be reborn.
    - Noa is the strict parent who'll prioritize results over tenderness, who knows what's the right thing to do and won't accept any bullshit from you. Noa can perfectly see through every child under his care because he's extremely sharp and analytical, so he can help them develop their strengths with efficiency, yet he's not the one to offer warmth or love. People in universe call him "cyborg", a cold and calculating entity, and I find extremely interesting that Kaiser is narratively paired with him. The author wants us to know they are similar, sharing a troubled past, but Noa could never be a surrogate father for Kaiser, because he can't give him the only thing he actually yearns for (makes you wonder what would've happened if Kaiser had been picked up by Snuffy instead of Ray Dark). I don't know if you're caught up with the most recent chapters (I'm sure you're, but just in case, spoiler alert). I used to think Kaiser and Noa would somehow come together thanks to their shared misfortunes, but it doesn't seem like it'll ever happen now. Noa basically reduced Kaiser to a stepping stone for his own future development, ereasing the possibility of unconditional love between them. As for Kaiser's motivation to leave BM, as I see it, he had gotten comfortable with his success and he didn't feel the need to challenge Noa for the role of BM's sole ace, which would've been unavoidable sooner or later; he was basically running away in fear of losing the little scrap of self worth he so desperately managed to amass. Right now his current mindset, albeit not healthy, is positively focused on pursuing further development, so I used to think he wouldn't leave BM anymore in order to face Noa head on. Now that Noa flipped the table, I'm not sure if Kaiser will actually accept to stay in BM as Noa's puppet, especially considering what you said about his visceral reaction towards authority/parenting, a very acute observation. The only way for Kaiser to evolve positively would be to understand that if he really wants love, he needs to put love out in the world aswell, shedding his thorns. Ness will maybe help him in this direction by defying him and becoming his own person again, not because Kaiser ordered him to leave, but because Kaiser is not worthy anymore of his magic.
    As for little creepy Rin, I love him and your portrayal of him. I honestly think evolman could very well be Isagi and not Sae. Why I say this? Aside from the very on the nose "genius of adaptability" moniker, a particular scene in the Evolman movie shows Evolman gaining strength from all the people at the scene, absorbing life force from them. That's basically what Isagi has been doing for ages, with different characters pointing out how he often uses his teammates while at the same time rising their value and individuality. Sae is absolutely linked to the concepts of transformation and being regarded as a hero for Japan's football, but probably the point is exactly that both Sae and Isagi are Evolmen to Rin's eldritch monster.
    I would like to say so many things, but I've already bored you to death, so... Ciao!👋 and congratulations on your Patreon! Your channel is getting bigger and I'm really happy for your growth, you definitely deserve all of it!

    • @suzelsmanga
      @suzelsmanga  20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      I really do appreciate all the messages and support, thanks again! I agree with pretty much everything in the post, so won't touch on every point in detail. But yeah, in my view Lorenzo is meant to show us what Kaiser would have been like if he had been saved by someone like Snuffy, it's really interesting that his character gained another layer in a match that he's not even participating in. As for Noa and Kaiser, the reason I didn't touch on the most recent chapters is that I filmed this on the day that ch 278 came out and at that point I really didn't want to start revising the script any further haha. But I think you're right that this consolidates that Noa would have never been able to help Kaiser in the first place. I didn't quite consider what this would mean for Kaiser's prospects of moving teams yet but I think you might be right on this one, that going to a more loving environment might be a great thing for his character in the latter stages of the story.
      Completely in agreement with Isagi being the 'true' Evolman btw. I probably said this elsewhere already but my assumption is that Isagi is supposed to succeed where Sae failed, with the most obvious example being Isagi literally supplanting Sae's spectre and driving Rin to evolve in turn right before he scores. I hadn't quite put together that the detail about Evolman gathering the life force of others is obviously Isagi but you're spot on with that I think. I strongly suspect that the Isagi-Evolman parallels will be made even more explicit sometime down the line!

      @suzelsmanga man, this manga really has some great examples of visual storytelling! The image of Isagi slashing through Sae's specter you pointed out is definitely one of my favorites. If one starts to pick everything apart, creating videos of a reasonable length would become impossible! Lorenzo and Kaiser's parallels are so interesting that I hope Kaneshiro will make them interact more. As of now, we can only wait for further development. La Real made an offer for Kaiser, but who knows, maybe he'll somehow switch for Ubers (one can hope) while Ness goes to Barcha (a team where his magic could actually shine).
      Thanks for always interacting with all of us, keep up the great work! Have a nice day 😊

    To me Isagi, Kaiser, and Noa essentially function as a found family, with the two sons vying for their father’s approval. I also think many of the themes of ego in blue lock can be traced to problems with authority that come from the perceived failings of irresponsible adults, including and especially represented by the series’ parents (e.g., Hiori’s Parents and Kaiser’s Dad) or more subtly parental figures (e.g., Noa, Ego, And Ray Dark).

    I do have a question, do you think we'll get an Isagi-backstory in the remainder of the PXG match?

    • @suzelsmanga
      @suzelsmanga  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Absolute same for me, in my view the NEL has the best writing in all of Blue Lock. I'd say much of the negativity is just from the struggle of weekly reading. It was really interesting to revisit the Ubers match for this vid (I hadn't really reread it since doing my two analyses after it wrapped last year), the ending was so much better than I remembered it being tbh.
      As for the Isagi backstory, good question. I've never liked the idea personally (esp the way it was presented in the light novels) because a lot of the appeal of his character for me is that he was just some dude until he found himself in a unique environment that did away with all his cultural preconceptions. But in all fairness, given the overall themes of the NEL and especially the PXG match, I have to admit that it's starting to seem increasingly likely that it might end with him finding his originality from his childhood. So I guess I'm not excited about the possibility of yet but I'm more than happy for Kaneshiro to surprise me

      I really appreciate comments like these, thanks so much! Two answers really. The first (which is not very helpful unfortunately) is that I have a PhD in literature, so I'm trained in analysing texts. But also, I've been making Blue Lock analysis videos for a year and a half by now, meaning that I've reread the manga a lot and just had the time to pick up on stuff. My usual process is that I notice something that interests me and then go back to the manga and see what else I find on the topic. For this video it started with me realising during the Rin flashback that there are a lot of flashbacks to early childhood in the NEL (much more than in earlier arcs), which got me asking why that might be the case, why would this be relevant for the NEL in particular. And once you're asking a question like that, you start noticing more and more references to childhood/adulthood/growing up when you revisit the arc, and eventually it all came together like this. Apologies for the long-winded answer but I hope this might be of use!

    all this talk about chidren, adults, and growing up in the nel has made recent chapters more interesting. just spitballing here but
    when loki steals the ball from isagi in 277 he states that his trap was a bit naive. naiveness is something u can attribute to a child of course. If naiveness can be attributed to a child then perhaps deception can be attributed to an adult?
    funnily enough he and kaiser have just been deceived by noa.
    football is all about mindgames so the more trickery you use the more u can succeed and the person who's just been subbed onto the field is the most deceptive person we know. its no wonder igaguri has lasted this long with his malicia lol
    igaguri has been shown to work on even a monster like rin which isagi makes sure to take note of
    isagi was already inspired by igaguri once to use his left side more effectively perhaps he'll take inspiration from him again in this match and make his next piece malicia/deception?
    he might end up incorporating body feints or something into his play style since he's used them before to shake of karasu
