I got my first time bike 1.14.2018 and it’s a 883 Iron industrial gray. I just turned 65 in July took the HD rider school. I put 1400 miles on it around town I love it. I wanted a bike just to go out to ride part of the day. No nighttime or rush hour, rain and expressway I have my caddy for that. I put Vance and Hines side three inch mufflers on a naked air filter and fuel pack 3, HD side bag, Wille G clutch cover and gas cap and a Dart fly screen oh yes Avon grips too. That baby gets a lot of head turns. You’re never to old to learn new things.
Spot on, well done to you!! Just passed my test this year too and did same!! Amazing bike, amazing experience, I’ve added my own thoughts at Scottish Iron...

Your comment about the 883 being a girl's bike, brought back memories of my first bike 50+ years ago. It was a mini-bike with a racing go-cart engine. I hear a lot of people complaining it’s difficult to find neutral, not here in this comment section but in general. I just have a piece of advice that if you kinda “push” the clutch peg *in* towards the engine and lift up slowly, that has never failed me.
The reason they have hard time finding neutral is they put 20w-50 in the primary, if they change to gear oil it will fix the problem immediately, after riding for awhile the clunk and moving forward when going into first will also go away......read the owners manual
Just got a 883 Iron as my first bike, bought it because it felt really comfortable to me. Mid controls made it feel just like my dirt bike and I loved that. Great channel btw.
I bought a new 2018 in feb. I have about 5000 miles on it. I haven’t done any mods or accessories, bone stock. I love this bike, not great on interstate , but can be done. I’m in such a dilemma too take advantage of their trade in offer. This bike is soooo much fun and reliable. I highly recommend it!
I’ve owned both the iron 883 sand camo, and the forty eight, I must say that the extra displacement of the 1200 makes it perfect for a bar hopper, as well as being able to move along nicely on the freeway when necessary. The 883 was great, and a ton of fun, but as they say, there is no replacement for displacement. Currently riding a dr650 which is not so much of an upgrade, rather it is a shift in my desired riding wants and needs. If you like cruising around town ( ya at speed limit, sure ) and do occasional to medium freeway use, the sportys are great starter bikes, and have tons of mods that can make it look fantastic.
When you ride a 48 Special, hold on loosely, but don't let it go... Mid controls make me feel like I have less control, because they're right in the way of putting my feet down. Had been thinking about getting a bike for years and after watching some of your videos I pulled the trigger and bought a 2017 883 all black with denim grey tank. Thanks for all the info you give out!
Blockhead....love all your vids and have appreciated the other vids on how to shift/steer/control that you originally did fro Ms. Blockhead!!! I bought a 2020 Barracuda Silver Denim bike from my local dealer and so excited to get on it and go. Your review of the 2019 and fact it was your first bike really helped me on my purchase. Thank you and ride safely!!!!
I just bought a 2016 Iron 883 but a day after I bought it, I unfortunately broke my knee due to a longboarding accident. Once I'm all healed up though I can't wait to ride this thing!
The wife has 14 iron. I put on vh short shots, 14" apes, hi flow air filter, fp3 tuner and a few other things. It's an absolute blast to ride. I highly recommend it. And if you want more motor I recommend the s&s 1200 conversion. It will eat a factory 1200 alive.
Blockhead, thanks for the review....I just went and looked at an Iron 883 this past weekend and am will hopefully soon ...very soon...be out and about riding again....at the age of 50...oh yeah...
I just bought a 2020 about 2 months ago and love it. I did have to change the seat out as well as the shocks to make it 2 up but it's a great bike! I went with the sundowner seat and passenger pillion.
Iv'e had 2 883's and loved em both. Dependable and versatile. One of them was dressed out for escorting Funerals and never failed to start even in 5 degree Ohio winters! Also great to strap a sleeping bag, tent and change of clothes for a few days road trip!
The blockhead nickname was coined because the heads prior to the 1980's were cast iron , the Evo motor was the first time HD used a block of aluminum machined to make the heads of the new improved motor !!! Thus the "blockhead " motor was created !!! The aluminum also has better heat transference properties and stronger than cast iron !!!
Apollo Rap It’s a very easy bike to ride, it’s got plenty of power but won’t win you any races. I’m 6’1”, it’s not terrible for my height, but I do plan to move the pegs and stuff forward a bit. It’s my first bike, definitely won’t be my last
I have never owned a motorcycle...and this iron 883 has really caught my attention. I am looking to buy one around summer time, so thank you very much for all the details you gave in your video. Only issue that I am a little worried about is my height. I am over six feet tall and I heard you mention that it might be a little cramped. I have yet to sit on the iron 883, however that will be one of the things I do once I get back from my deployment. It seems like a great starter bike, and being able to add so many different accessories to it is a huge plus! Thanks again for the video sir!
After watching this video and a few others I bought mine a month ago. Got it out for the first time this weekend. 170 miles I put on it. Love the fact it’s not to powerful and is easy to ride. Has enough of what I need.
Just turned 65 this past May and decided to trade my Freewheeler trike in for a new 1200 Iron. Best decision I've made. Started on a Sportster in 1967 and guess I will end on one. Great bikes!!!
%100 Portakal no such thing as bad riding weather as long as you’re equipped for the ride. Took a motorcycle safety course and they teach you how to ride in those conditions
The painting scheme is better now - comparing to 2018 model. Varnished paint is way more scratch-resistant(as opposed to matte finish in 2018). I also like the new logo better - but it is a matter of personal preference. But there's one important thing: did Harley drop keyless ignition in favour of traditional keyed ignition ?
Proud owner of hd iron 883 2012 n little bit bcoz of weather here in India just ridden 10k kms anyhow just love it. I loved ur led turn signals with drls but here in India after market stuff is not available n with shipping charges from US anything can turns out to be like 40% more of the actual value. Anyway just in love with the ending track of all ur videos.
If someone started a conversation with this what this video started, I'm buying that right then and there. Now, this is what I call a review. Thank you
Have been thinking about getting an Indian Scout Bobber 20. After watching this video now I think I'll be happier with an Iron 883. Love the Harley exhaust sound and the 883 seems powerful enough to suit my needs. Haven't been on a bike since the mid 80's, rode a Honda 750.
I've been riding motorcycles since the early 60's, all sizes and brands, and I currently ride my 2005 XL883 Standard which I love. You are spot-on in your comments about the so-called "girl's bike". To paraphrase what Saddle Tramp said about "Baggers" vs "Girls' bikes", which would you rather ride across the country on? It seems to me that it would take a tougher person - male or female - to do it on a Sportster. I've always considered "Baggers" to be like old Buick's because they are big, plush and soft. There is something magical about the Sportster which has been around since 1957 and its later model Evo engines. It is bulletproof, just modern enough and just retro enough to scratch all of my itches. It isn't the fastest or best handling bike I've ever owned, but it is by far the most fun bike I've ever owned. It's a keeper. I could go on about why I prefer the mid-controls over forward controls, but that would take another chapter. GREAT VIDEO!!!!!! Keep up the great work!
I started on a 1991 HD 1200cc Sportster, loved the raw power, the sound and the overal feel. But it started to fall apart mid riding. The clutch cable somehow hooked onto the front fender so i couldn't turn left anymore while driving 50mph and at one point the right footpeg started to loosen up. I was terrified and in blind panic i traded the bike in for a 2012 BMW F800GS for the "German Quality". Biggest mistake of my life and i regret it every single day.
You should do some vids on older bikes. Just to compare, all the bikes you've owned are new, fuel injected and such. I'd enjoy hearing your opinion on how it feels to ride some more classic bikes.
Hey blockhead I’m not going to lie, I literally learned how to ride just from watching your videos 😂 I bought my 883 Monday and picked it up on Tuesday. Love the bike love the channel I was shocked just from what I learned from you so I’d like to say thank you
This is a very enjoyable review to listen to and watch. I am actually thinking about down grading my Harley Low-Rider S to a new Iron 883. I had one of the early evolution 883 Sportsters back in 1990 and loved it. I like the lower maintenance costs, the fact that an oil change is all you need to also take care of the primary and transmission, and I am glad to see the bike is so reliable. It almost sounds like the Sportster 883 Iron (unmodified) is more reliable than the M 8.
Love my 883, classic, can't get rid of her, rough ride on long distant but that's riding like the old days , wouldn't have another way , old school. biking.
Hey there are shots from inside OHD is that a drone I know outside shots are awesome too overall your blogs are extremely professional and simple at the same time luv em all
You’re so inspiring, thank you! Trying to get my first ever bike by the end of this year. And thanks to you I have the confidence, from what I learned so far from your videos, to get my dream Harley!
Been looking at this for my first street bike. Price is right, found some low mileage used rides and am gonna test ride in a couple weeks. Love this channel, getting lots of great info, thanks for doing what you do!
Sportsters are the best bike Harley-Davidson make that’s why they haven’t changed too much and like you said you can do SO MUCH to a sportster and if you want to go fast put a 1250 or 1275 kit from Hammer on it , there so easy and fun to ride and very easy to work on
I test drove an Iron 883, I'm 6'4" 285 lbs, it felt cramped for me but it was fun to ride. One of my friends who came with me said I was the only person he's ever known that made a Sportster look like a Grom! 😎
Hey Blockhead, I bet you can get some sponsorship from some lenders, and bike Insurance companies. I like how you describe the bikes! I like you include the prices, it makes me want to go buy a new one! I've never had a Harley, I've only had naked bikes mostly 1,000cc and 1,200cc Honda, Suzuki, and Ducati. Keep riding on! :-)
I own a 2012 Nightster and I love that damn bike. I'm currently riding my step dads 03 Heritage while my nightster is in the shop. Yeah it's more comfortable and the bags and windshield are definitely nice to have. But it's just not my sportster. I miss that quickness and being so nimble
I just seen a video of a 883 iron turned into a rode glide, I believe road runner garage did the customized 883. I kinda dig it too just could believe something finally did it
I got a 18 iron love it nice to see you on one again you helped me make my decision on buying it it cost less than a cable bill a month and for where I ride in like to do it works out just great I also got the trade up deal so I don't know I might want something bigger down the road. The best thing though wood be to have the Iron 883 and a slim still would be cheaper than a new car. Thanks for all your good advice.
I love this bike. I owned it for a month and the previous owner (a close friend) wanted to buy it back with the same price. He couldn't live without it. The only thing I didn't like about it is that I looked funny on it :D I always love your videos block head.
After many bikes I bought my first Sportster last week, a 2018 Iron 883 in White Denim with 10K on it. In my first week of ownership I'm shaking my head wondering... Why the Hell didn't I buy Sportster 35 years ago? It is a blast to tear around town and the mountains.. I almost look forward to going to work since I've been riding it in. Zero buyer's remorse. BTW, I've never seen anyone make fun of a Sportster owner. I guess the people I ride with are just into riding.
Going to the HD motorcycle course. The 883 is my eye-candy, this will be my first time riding, so Im hoping I do well on the course and the lifestyle is for me. Will accept any advice but I know all I have to do is get on and ride to see for myself. Oh and you sir have been subcribed! Awesome vid.
This is a very well done, informative video. Thanks for the info. Now I have to check out your channel, just to learn more. But this makes me want a Sportster. I won't be touring so this might be a great fit for me. It occurs to me that if the Sportster sucked, it would have disappeared a long time ago.
If they would put a six speed in it, the 1200 version I think would sell soooo much better.i know I'd be all over it. I commute daily 65 miles 5 days a week, that 6th gear is a must on the freeway.
Great video on the 883 ,just bought my 2015 ,and i love it and dont give shit what anybody would say about it ,waiting for spring to put my new exhaust on ,cant wait to get out to cold right now, thanks again for the great video
Sportsters are cool but they need to build it with more ground clearance. Tall & Fat rubber on both ends, and a 124 cu. in. stage 3 engine right out of the box.

I have a 2017 iron. I love it. Black denim.....get a lot of great comments on it.
Just bought a 19 Iron 883 in Denim Black!
How do you like it so far
Apollo Rap
It’s a very easy bike to ride, it’s got plenty of power but won’t win you any races. I’m 6’1”, it’s not terrible for my height, but I do plan to move the pegs and stuff forward a bit.
It’s my first bike, definitely won’t be my last
Justin White Yeah I don’t care about racing I just want to cruise and I also want my first bike thanks for the information so far brother
@@justinwhite9418 you still like it?
I have never owned a motorcycle...and this iron 883 has really caught my attention. I am looking to buy one around summer time, so thank you very much for all the details you gave in your video. Only issue that I am a little worried about is my height. I am over six feet tall and I heard you mention that it might be a little cramped. I have yet to sit on the iron 883, however that will be one of the things I do once I get back from my deployment. It seems like a great starter bike, and being able to add so many different accessories to it is a huge plus! Thanks again for the video sir!
In regards to wanting more power, a lot of people buy an 883, then add a big bore kit later down the line.
Check out Hammer Performance for 1250 and 1275 kits.
Thanks for the video, Block!
I just purchased a 2019 Iron 883 today,but not picking it up
until next week and this gives me an idea of what to expect.
How is that bike holding up?
I just bought this bike today. Brand new 2019 883 iron, Best decision ever
congratz man. I'm going to sell my car to buy this one.
Bas Rakbun hell yea, I still don’t regret it
Bas Rakbun What about winter? If you sell your car, the rain and the snow is going to be a problem
%100 Portakal no such thing as bad riding weather as long as you’re equipped for the ride. Took a motorcycle safety course and they teach you how to ride in those conditions
@@MoYammaBatFitch Aha i see; but you know, no one would like to ride under a heavy rain
I used to ride Honda’s, Suzuki’s, & Yamahas more than 30 years ago.
Wanted to get back into riding, I got a 883. Looking forward to it.
I figured an iron 883 was a good bike to get started again.
My first Harley was a 1980 XLH Sportster. At least it had separate Speedometer and Tach. I sold it after I bought my current Harley 1983 FXWG.
Hi Sir, I've no experience riding a Harley. Grateful you could recommend one for a start. Thanks.
I thought that dealership looked familiar, and as soon as you did the aerial shot the construction on I-4 made it unmistakable. Great video man.
I want one so bad it's the perfect bike for me to start learning I love the price it only went up a couple hundred bucks
This channel is the reason why I purchased my iron 883.
I had one as well, but they shake alot at highway speeds. Fun bike to roll around town with though.
Just bought an iron 1200 and I’m really happy with it and your channel really helped me make the decision to get it. Hope you come to dallas sometime
JUST BOUGHT AN 883 IRON LAST NIGHT!!! I’m so excited to ride it, let’s ride Blockhead! I’m in west Orlando!
You should do some vids on older bikes. Just to compare, all the bikes you've owned are new, fuel injected and such. I'd enjoy hearing your opinion on how it feels to ride some more classic bikes.
Really enjoyed the 2019 883 video. Just bought it as my entry bike. Been groovy for a non-riding person. Thank you for the walk through.
Purfefun2
Just got mine too on 7/10/19, pick it up next week!
I tried a 2016 883. Harley can keep it. Already owned a 15 Street 750. Fast forward 2018. I have a 2018 1200 Custom. And love it.
Great review. Looking at my buying my first Harley this year, this will be that bike now. Keep up the good work.
I must be old, I like the old Sportsters with some chrome over everything being blacked out.
I have a 2016 Iron 883 and LOVE IT! Mine is all flat black. Fun little bike and I am very short so I can touch the ground easily on her.
I never knew about the EVO being called a block head! Thanks for the mini history lesson!
front wheel lookin good...well the whole thing is looking good
Love my 883, classic, can't get rid of her, rough ride on long distant but that's riding like the old days , wouldn't have another way , old school. biking.
883 is an awesome bike! Love mine 2016!
I cannot wait to "upgrade" to an Iron or a 48 someday. They're clean and minimal and look awesome.
I have an 2018 883 Harley Iron taking it out on first day of spring . Whoohoo can" harley"wait ☺
Same over here 😀
Hey there are shots from inside OHD is that a drone I know outside shots are awesome too overall your blogs are extremely professional and simple at the same time luv em all
883 was my first bike and I still wish I had it. They are great bikes!
You’re so inspiring, thank you! Trying to get my first ever bike by the end of this year. And thanks to you I have the confidence, from what I learned so far from your videos, to get my dream Harley!
Irons rock burnouts,drifting,wheelies .
Been looking at this for my first street bike. Price is right, found some low mileage used rides and am gonna test ride in a couple weeks. Love this channel, getting lots of great info, thanks for doing what you do!
Sportsters are the best bike Harley-Davidson make that’s why they haven’t changed too much and like you said you can do SO MUCH to a sportster and if you want to go fast put a 1250 or 1275 kit from Hammer on it , there so easy and fun to ride and very easy to work on
Love the matte/raw look.. rather that than a shiny bike...
A motorcycle dealership next to one of the most dangerous highway is in the United States I love it
most deaths per mile in the country last time I checked . . . I almost die every time am on it
What highway
Ghgh Fhfh Interstate 4 (I-4) in Central Florida from Daytona to Tampa.
It is always under construction, because of growth and tourists.
Bought an Iron 883, same colour, in part because of your video. I love it. Thanks!
Great Video! I like your positive, upbeat attitude. You are a true Motorcycle lover! I respect anyone's Ride, just be safe and enjoy!!!!
I test drove an Iron 883, I'm 6'4" 285 lbs, it felt cramped for me but it was fun to ride. One of my friends who came with me said I was the only person he's ever known that made a Sportster look like a Grom! 😎
Oh man, you should see Big Tom, one of the techs at my dealership. The guy makes most softails look like a Grom.
Just bought a 09 iron 883 and I love it
I own a 2012 Nightster and I love that damn bike. I'm currently riding my step dads 03 Heritage while my nightster is in the shop. Yeah it's more comfortable and the bags and windshield are definitely nice to have. But it's just not my sportster. I miss that quickness and being so nimble
Can you test ride a 1200 custom? Perferably with that new silver flux color but i understand if that isn't an option haha
I thought I didn’t like Harley’s until I saw these iron 883s. Very nice bike. Will be my second motorcycle.
Nice to see you back on the bike that started it all for you! I CANT WAIT to be able to grab one of these, but life happens and bills come first
Very informative.. thanks!
I'm 5'4, would it be a good fit for me?
Actually looking to buy a fourty eight right now. Its all black from a local dealer. Looks so slick
I have the same exact 883 but with forward controls instead of mid, and different mirrors.
I love this bike. I owned it for a month and the previous owner (a close friend) wanted to buy it back with the same price. He couldn't live without it. The only thing I didn't like about it is that I looked funny on it :D
I always love your videos block head.
Just went to War Horse Harley Davidson and earned my motorcycle endorsement. Looking for a good first bike to get used to riding now. 883 might be it?
Liking the industrial grey. Own an Iron 1200 at moment. Evo engine is fantastic. Running stock engine. Perfect. Thanks for the review
