I, once again, ask thee to paint Nick's Space Marines' orange colour scheme, to show him how it's done! (also because my Space Marine are orange and I need help).
you should have green stuff oles for the scythes to come out of the armour so the the exit out of the armout on the arms were protected using armour some way
Going for a Sisters Baneblade, by change? Going to need all three rhino variants, the floating preaching chair, a couple of Custodus Hoverbikes, for their eagles (headlights). And that's just the start, there, if you do it, it needs to be over the top. Including the 2018/2019, fusion reactor terrain pieces, for a engine swap, fusion power, baby!!! Even good for any bigger walker, you know, that particular fusion reactor terrain pieces, set. Stompy needs a fusion powered brother, you know. Do note that most sisters are sporting a Inquisitor I, so that already says enough about te command unit, you're going to need then. So might as well throw in a Rogue Trader kit or two, as well. The most diverse army ever. The Inquisition has arrived. lol
first 40k book I chose to read. Death of Antagonis. Then I read Tribute of Flesh its sequel short story. Currently Waiting on the new Salamander Omnibus coming out on the 24th to read all about them. After quite of bit if research my favorite chapters so far are the Black Dragons and the Salamanders.
The Death of Antagonis is such a great book and the short story A tribute of flesh really drives home how cool these Sons of Vulkan are! I’m definitely going to take the paint mixture and apply it to some Jump bois! Cheers!
For a moment I was terrified you were going to take apart one of those beautiful Hormagaunts for its claws. Yes, please give those beautiful models some love
I love the loyalist chapters who fly so close to the sun. Black Dragons, charcarodonts, white scars. Though i do also enjoy the Salamanders UMs and IFs
I love the Black Dragons because of the conversion possibilities and the easy paint scheme. You did a great job. I’ve done several conversions in which I’ve sculpted scales and horns. It’s a lot of work. But after seeing yours I need Tyranid bits.
Always love seeing your take on the space marines you don't have armies for, Mr. Jay! Every video is a fun surprise and I love rewatching them for inspiration, too! Looking forward to when your inspiration hits again with this series!
Pretty much all my 40k lore knowledge comes from watching your videos. Need to read me a book or two I think. Also want to say that your film work is pretty much the best I watch all day. Keep up the great work guys I’m a big fan.
I just played the "Talons of the Omnisia" in Kill Team. Freaking cool kitbash and a low model count. You can really go wild. Custodes with tanktreads, stompy legs, head from a robot etc.
I have run a black dragons army since 8th ed and i looove them. They do not get any love in the community so its great to see you featuring them in your content. Cheers
The Black Dragons are blessed by the Emperor with the most blessed being the Dragon Claws. Back in 5th edition, I converted and painted about 2500pts of Black Dragons after I had about 2500pts of Minotaurs chapter. I used a lot of the dragon icons off of Dark Elf Corsairs for chapter symbols and icons on vehicles.
Looks good. Would love to see you paint Howling Griffons. Not as much physical conversion but seeing you do the quartered color scheme would be fun. Generally, any of the crazy 80's paint schemes would be fun.
I think Custodes would work super well for some crazy conversions. While you might have to ditch some of their armor for other parts, which would lead to some weird kitbashing, I think it could be sick with an approach like how you did in this video.
O wow, the title was not wrong. First time seeing this chapter, amazing mini :) Do Howling Griffons next, really want to see you paint that color scheme.
Nice! The only thing I'd want to do differently is trying to make the bone protrusions look like a tech marine or artificer was involved... sort of making little seals on the armor where the spikes leave the wrists/forearms and head... I think that's a subtle way to separate a "chaos" marine where the spikes are just unorganized growths or mutations that sprout wildly from them or where their armor has fused to them versus something less hertical like the Black Dragons where they might build vents and supports in their armor to help the growths be displayed for battle if that makes sense. But yeah, really nice colors and Black Dragons are a fun chapter!
An army that would be perfect for heavy kitbashing would be either Imperial Guard (you can literally just come up with your own regiment and then slap some bits together) or Adeptus Custodes (their armours _are_ described as all being unique, after all). If you're gonna do Sisters of Battle, maybe you could give the orders each their own distinct visual flair beyond colours. God-Emperor knows they could use a hell of a lot more variety, especially if they're gonna contend with space marines. Blood Ravens - Unknown Founding - Mostly just a DoW ask. Carcharodons (Space Sharks) - Unknown Founding - Very brutal, very scary marines who operate from above the galactic plane, only speak high gothic, and use a lot of Mk V power armour. Crimson Fists - 2nd Founding - The first chapter to ever be seen, having been on the cover art of Rogue Trader. Make sure they have a crimson power fist. Deathwatch - Ordo Xenos - You can basically use whatever chapter you want with this one. And who knows, maybe you could find a way to enjoy painting them, similar to how you did with the Genestealers. Flesh Tearers - 2nd Founding - A more vicious form of the Blood Angels chapter (they actually take pride in the Red Thirst, and are quite a lot more prone to the Black Rage than their progenitors). Plenty of opportunities for chain weapons. Also, Gabriel Seth's take on the Primaris Marines is based. Grey Knights - Ordo Malleus - Can you do this without any of the special parts? Or will you cave? Iron Snakes - 2nd Founding - Out of all art of space marines, one of my favourite will always be that one Marine with the respirator with a grill like that of a snarling beast, and the giant, thick, slab-like pauldrons. It's such an evocative image. Lamenters - 21st (Cursed) Founding - The checkered pattern on the pauldrons will give you a good challenge. Plus, we gotta love these boys. Mantis Warriors - Possible 8th Founding - The Mantis Warriors fought during the Badab War on the side of the Astral Claws, but eventually defected to the side of the Loyalists. However, because of their initial allegiance to the Astral Claws during the war, they've lost their homeworld which was given to the Charcharodons, and went on a penitent crusade. They are at incredibly low numbers by this point. Minotaurs - 21st (Cursed) Founding - The unofficial attack dogs of the High Lords of Terra. You can go as OP with the model as you want. Rainbow Warriors - Unknown Founding - In the official lore, there's next to no information about them (though they do have rainbow-coloured plasma weapons according to a Trazyn novel), but there is someone who decided to do their own version of the Rainbow Warriors as an Aztec-themed chapter. Good luck on the fine rainbow stripes. Storm Giants - Unknown Founding (possibly during the 36th Millennium, so between 15th through 21st foundings, maybe older) - These Salamanders successors are described as being even larger and stronger than the marines of other chapters. I wanna see how you can do with kitbashing the size of your marines. Storm Wardens - Unknown Founding - Mostly because I love the idea of Scottish Space Marines. You could also try branching into more Chaos Space Marines, and for that... Alpha Legion - M31 - They're great because you get to do a lot of scaled designs, and you even get a complementary Alpharius model in each kit. Black Legion - M31 - Consisting of not just the XVI Legion the Sons of Horus, but of any Chaos Marines who wish to fight their Long War under the command of Abaddon the Despoiler. One of the generic "Chaos Space Marine" factions, essentially the Ultramarines of Chaos. If any loyalist chapter were to see themselves as rivals of the Black Legion, it would have to be the Blood Angels, since Horus was the one who killed Sanguinius. Emperor's Children - M31 - They have by-far the most eclectic and over-the-top design elements of all the Chaos Marine legions. Me personally, I prefer their pre-heresy look, but their post-heresy look should at least be a lot of fun to make. The Iron Hands fucking hate the EC because Fulgrim (the Emperor's Children's Primarch) killed Ferrus Manus (the Iron Hands' Primarch). Iron Warriors - M31 - The use of lots of cybernetics, basic raw-iron armour, hazard stripes, and their no-nonsense design philosophy. They hate Chaos, actually, and they'll lop off anything that gets mutated and insist on only using machinery and technology, though they're more than happy to use a daemon as a battery. They also don't like working with any other legions. Rivals of the Imperial Fists due to some preexisting bad-blood between their respective primarchs. Night Lords - M31 - Forced to survive in a piratical fashion, the Night Lords have strong serial-killer vibes, especially since they're not really fighters so much as predators and killers (by space marine standards at least). The black-blue armour and the lightning bolts should add some visual interest. They are rivals of the Salamanders because even before the Heresy they were skinning civilians alive and wearing their faces. Red Corsairs - M41 - Originally the Astral Claws chapter, the Red Corsairs are the largest new legion of Chaos to form since the Horus Heresy, having fallen to chaos during the Badab War, which was the main war that everyone cared about during Rogue Trader. They're more attractive a prospect for joining from marines not descended from the original 9 Traitour legions due to their young age, and the broad elitism of the older legions. They also have been known to utilize xenos crewmen as well. Thousand Sons - M30 - The cobalt-blue Egyptian psyker legion with heavy amounts of gold trim and yellow colours. When painted up, these guys are straight dripping. Rivals of the Space Wolves after what they'd done on Prospero. Word Bearers - M31 - Lots of daemons and religious cultish texts and motifs. Their primarch actually wrote the holy scripture that the Adeptus Ministorum/Ecclesiarchy uses to this day worshipping the God-Emperor, and was also the first primarch to fall to Chaos. They have a rivalry with the Ultramarines after the Emperor had the latter burn down the Word Bearer's most prosperous city on their homeworld pre-heresy. World Eaters - M31 - The most vicious and brutal of the Chaos legions, the World Eaters are all in on chain weapons and melee. They don't really have any specific rivalries with anyone, as they just fight and attack everyone, even each other.
Nice video, I always liked the black dragons. Next I would like to see the fanciest marines there are: the Celebrants chapter. The only official colour scheme with a colour transition across the armour.
I've always been a fan of the idea that you run them with space wolves rules actually. I know they're not good this edition, but I've always liked the idea that you kitbash a bunch of assault intercessors with like bone claws and their horns and whatnot then run them as wolfen. Then extra bonus points if you buy Seraphon Aggradon Lancers and use their mounts as Thunder Wolf Cavalry.
This is why deathwatch is still great fun to collect thematically as you get to paint up marines from other chapters altho only the shoulder pad & conversion stuff. RIP
Speaking of Sisters, I have a couple ideas floating around my head that might help spark something for you. One idea is to imagine that they might be stationed on the same planet as a space marine chapter, taking visual cues and stylings from said chapter. I.e., space wolf sisters. The other idea i have is to one day to a HUGE battle force consisting of 5 separate armies. Iron Warriors, Dark Mech, traitor guard, chaos knights, and corrupted sisters. I think a chaos themed sisters army has a TON of potential
I loved the black dragons story from the space marine successor chapter anthology. Incase you havnt read it yet, black dragons got primaris marines in it in the form of greyshield recruits.
Well if you’re doing the 21st cursed founding here’s a chapter I think are badass but the grey knights and inquisition are just jealous pricks. The Flame Falcons or the Phoenix Brethren a chapter of loyal marines who worship the god emperor and adhere to the codex Astartes. They have many honors but then their “flaw/buff” developed. In the heat of battle or just an especially devoted moment the marines would burst into a purifying flame, all marines even librarians and dreadnoughts would burst into flame during battle, the flame purged the hell out of chaos and didn’t harm the marines. But one day when they returned to their home world the grey knights were there and slaughtered most of the chapter before being declared renegade. About 30 scouts and marines survived with a good amount of their gene-seed. They then saved a small sector of space and called it home. The civilians and even other space marine chapters help them out because they’re so damn nice. Eventually they secretly joined in a crusade to drive back chaos but they began bursting into their holy flame once more alerting their presence to the inquisition. The sector and some chapters attempted to slow down the inquisition allowing for the Flame falcons now the phoenix brethren to escape on a battle barge gifted to them by a dark angel successor. Their whereabouts are unknown since then, but I believe there still out their kicking chaos’s ass in purifying flame and worshiping the God emperor of mankind. They’re a very badass underrated chapter of marines.
this is really cool. I've only gotten 750 points into my black Dragons army cause of how much kitbashing I've needed to do, but this is making me want to finish off my 2k list.
Dude! That looks so sick, especially with the black metallic armor ... but after the unicorn joke I really want to see you do a custom mini of my just now invented "Rainbow Unicorns" chapter
My friend had the chaos dragon bits and I play Salamanders, he kit bashed my bike captain and put the dragon heads as bike bolter replacements amongst other things
Current lore has black dragons recived primaris and have accepted them but they still grow bone spikes (bless the curse short story) and the 4th company is fighting in the 3rd fleet of the indomitus crusade :)
If I remember right, most of the people playing Black Dragons when I was more into things used some of, I think, the Dark Elf transfers from Fantasy for their emblem.
The cursed founding are awesome! Always wished there was more info on the Sons of Antaeus. Though I still think Relictors are the best, fight fire with fire baby!
The black dragons are quite excessively cool, and that is an awesome mini. I've always fantasized about kitbashing an eyes of the emperor custodes army, boing full Blanchian with crazy bionics and ragged cloaks. Then I realize I suck at kitbashing, and get on with my life. We need more eyes of the emperor in the world, they are the single coolest thing about the custodes yet they have zero lore and no models.
I found my first space marine army which was a black dragon army. At the time I used the old dark eldar spiky bits and the newly released tyranids plastic armour plates. So many tyranid upgrade armour spruce I had to order to make it happen. I miss ordering individual parts or spruces for making conversions.

This dude did a awesome conversion and killer freehand on his shark boys, m.th-cam.com/video/kMZ9qh6C2Hc/w-d-xo.html
That freehand drag on the pouldron is epic. Some mad skillz on show there.
So was that freehand sawing of the cork. lol.

So true!
You have helped me get past my fear of painting thanks

@@XakariahFox Sweet. I got the salamander books for Christmas and Birthday last year. Had I known the omnibus was coming I would have waited.

Such a simple paint job that looks amazing. This would be one epic army.
So excited to see the rest of this series! Really loved the founding chapters and looking forward to the successors!
What a fantastic looking mini. The conversion work is a lot of fun, and the freehand chapter icon is amazing.
The Death of Antagonis is such a great book and the short story A tribute of flesh really drives home how cool these Sons of Vulkan are! I’m definitely going to take the paint mixture and apply it to some Jump bois! Cheers!

Black Dragons are my second favorite chapter behind my Eternal Dragons!
I've started doing this for my 40k army, my primaris Luna Wolves have some great chaos-style bits, especially on my reivers squad.
Really glad that this series is continuing!
You could build a Deathwatch army. Yes they are mostly black but you can convert each model with an authentic style.
Great job! Keep it up!

Very cool kitbash! You should do more of those!
You should do Deathwatch next! They would be fun to kitbash something unique for
Thanks for doing my suggestion! (I think) Best one yet!!
Well this just made my day a whole lot better
Nice Black Dragon! Great chapter.
Black Dragons are so underrated. They are true sons of Vulkan.
Jay! the assault symbol is easy to paint, just draw a square and then carve out the arrows!
Not a space marine fan models or lore but damn that space marine looks GOOOD which is slightly better than lower case awesome.
this is really cool. I've only gotten 750 points into my black Dragons army cause of how much kitbashing I've needed to do, but this is making me want to finish off my 2k list.
My friend has five of these. These guys are such cool fellows and I wish there were some official conversions!
YES. I LOVE THE BLACK DRAGONS
Dude! That looks so sick, especially with the black metallic armor
... but after the unicorn joke I really want to see you do a custom mini of my just now invented "Rainbow Unicorns" chapter
Hidden wood mannequin hand in the background, in it's appropriate finger position as always!
My friend had the chaos dragon bits and I play Salamanders, he kit bashed my bike captain and put the dragon heads as bike bolter replacements amongst other things
Great job with that freehand symbol
It be awesome to see the old school nids
I just saw the old metal broodlord whos killing a termie, it was a great scenic pose
It's a nice conversion for a intercessors kill team !
Current lore has black dragons recived primaris and have accepted them but they still grow bone spikes (bless the curse short story) and the 4th company is fighting in the 3rd fleet of the indomitus crusade :)
3:40 gotta love the balls
Keep up with the amazing work looking forward to seeing more from you.
The angry Marines could have some fun freehanding!
You KNOW we want to see those retro bugs come out to play!
Would you consider doing a series like this on Chaos or Tau? Id love to see your one off takes on specific groups outside of the imperium
I would love to see them as an army! I m a big fan of black dragon but I'd don't have the mean to do it myself x)
What a great job looks amazing
Jay continuing to lose no opportunity to work on some balls.
I found my first space marine army which was a black dragon army. At the time I used the old dark eldar spiky bits and the newly released tyranids plastic armour plates. So many tyranid upgrade armour spruce I had to order to make it happen. I miss ordering individual parts or spruces for making conversions.
Tacticus is so much fun. I've been addicted for months
