A fine video. I like the tree analogy. The English countryside is woven together with these ancient paths. My brother’s house is located on the Hampshire-Sussex border on land formerly owned by Harold Godwinson. A herepath (army path) runs along outside his home through into Sussex. The area is threatened with destruction by housing developments.
While one may argue that it is not fully correct to say that the battle of Eðandūn was the birth of England, it really was. The unification of smaller sub-kingdoms happened over multiple generations and it wasn't fully completed until Ælfrēd's grandson Æðelstān. However the impetus for such a unification happened under Ælfrēd and this battle, so that stone commemorates a remarkable event and is a symbol of the English as a single nation.
Great stuff! For years I've hiked the Cotswolds. It is a gift that keeps giving. From improving physical/mental health to an (ongoing) understanding of nature & then the (also ongoing) understanding of who has gone there before. A city dweller once asked what I enjoyed doing the most. When I told him about my love of the outdoors he replied 'so you've given up on life?'. He was a good man & I can understand his perspective but he was so wrong. Am already a subscriber to the Woodlander & now have also joined you. Thanks.
Brilliant video and excellent collaboration, love seeing Woodie joining in on a history lesson. Great to see the battle field located amongst so many other important historical landmarks ❤
Love it! ✨🫶🏻✨Thankyou so much for sharing this history. Hope to paint that stone in its landscape one day. Do we know where the stone came from originally?
Very good, nature is the Template - 'Plants of the same genus and species are usually able to be grafted together even if the fruit is different, but your odds of success are significantly lower. Fruit trees that are in completely different families cannot be grafted together'
What a beautiful and peaceful place. Awesome history, thoroughly enjoyed this video with the Woodlander and Wessex Nomad, a fantastic combination of two great friends. Excellent!!
Interesting -the route and the battle are so controversial as to where ? When ? How ? -I enjoy the mystery of it all and hope that one day true evidence will be found ? (I have subscribed)
"If you don't look for what the past has left you, you will not find it." It looks like the Woodlander only has to go to the end of his driveway to find it! Well done Joe, I enjoyed this one.
I really enjoyed this. I wanted to concentrate on what he was saying, but the music( though lovely) was too loud and distracting. Not trying to be mean, but helpful for future videos.
Nice one Joe, I enjoyed the chance to work with you.
Same here, my friend. Was an absolute pleasure!

That's really sad and frustrating. I hope those "development" plans don't go through.
Very inspiring message at the end, keep it up nomad and woodlander 🏴🌲⚔️
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

It was put there by the Marquees of Bath, but the stone itself is from, I'm afraid I'm not sure.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@_the_wessex_nomad_I remember when Alexander used to stand for Parliament for The Wessex Party, when he was a younger guy. RIP.
Very Interesting, Fascinating and Relevant. Thank you Both.

Back when the only diversity was which north Western European tribe you were part of, who were effectively all cousins of each other anyway. :)

Are you trying to tell me that we’ve got ancient Saxon/celtic roots to this land ? I was under the impression Britain’s just a hotel.
😂
Two legends, one blood and one bone!
