Man, this brings back memories. One of my favorite games of all time, even if it isn't the best Sonic or the best pinball game. Some of the best music to ever grace the Genesis, too.
You're right, this game was rushed out for Christmas '93 because of delays to Sonic 3. The developers admitted the slow frame rate (30fps) was due to the game being coded in C as they didn't have time to write it in assembly language.
He owns a toy factory so he's going quite well. He's a really kind hearted man, giving so many games and things (even toys) to Mark. He mentioned this on the interview I think.
I learned a lot about the lesser known game consoles from this epic channel and that really is gonna help me in my video game design class in high school.
I convinced my friend back in 1994 to buy this game because I thought it was Sonic Triple Trouble for the Mega Drive (go figure) and featured Sonic with Knuckles and Tails. He kept blaming me for months
That's because IT IS, this game is actually quite enjoyable, even though I've only played the GameGear version. And by the looks of it, the Genesis version is even more fun.
I remember owning this game, but never made it pass the jetflying level. Fact it maybe sometimes want to switch over to Sonic 3 combine with Sonic and Knuckles.
I never had this game back then but from when I tried it a few months ago, I could only get that far too, maybe second emerald, I'm not sure, keep in mind that Mark is a damn fine pinballer
I remember playing this game when I was around the age of five, and I was always struggling. I still felt the need to play it though, games now-a-days just can't give you that emmersive experience :/.
I've read somewhere that the game was a rush job and thus programmed in a higher level C++ instead of Assembly. The compiled code was not efficient enough for the Genesis and the cause of the slowness.
I played this game so much as a kid. I never beat it but I did get to level 3 or 4 until it got too hard. I still have it in the closet but am afraid of letting it demolish me for free lol.
There is actually a good reason why the game runs slow. It was coded in C rather than the standard practice of coding a game in Assembly. It takes far more CPU cycles to process C than the M68000 Assembly.
Hopefully to any who play this, they haven't burned away too many brain cells from the anger of dying more than in any other Sonic game even if they were a rookie. I couldn't get passed the second level and I think I died around ten or fifteen times with four or five game overs.
I liked this game as a kid, but it always felt weird... like the Game Gear / Master System Sonic games... I guess that makes the Game Gear version of Spinball double weird.
Cool spin off game. Not as good as the main series, but still good. I've added it a few weeks ago to my collection. Oh, and it's not do hard as everyone thinks.
I have played this game on the Sonic Mega Collection, for the most part I enjoyed playing the games the came on it. Still I admit these games are hard, or rather challenging I just love the original Sonic The Hedgehog games. I was clearly raised on these games when I was child, and they are quite fun with retro vengeance. ^_^
Believe it or not. Sonic Spinball is my favorite Sonic game. I am better at it than any of the other Sonic games. lol I have been to the 4th table or level. I am determined to beat it some day. Need to get back to it and beat it.
This really doesn't push the hardware limits at all, after playing stuff like Alien Soldier, Ristar and Vectorman that's quite obvious. If the game suffers from slowdown that's because the team at Sega were dozing off while developing it.
Also this game was made by Sega of America, Yuji Naka the creator of Sonic was not involved. That´s why it´s technically not that well made, but that didn´t stop me from enjoying it. You think that is slow? Try the Game Gear version hehe...
this game is fucking awesome, for once I'm not with Mark. I freakin love Sonic Spinball
Man, this brings back memories. One of my favorite games of all time, even if it isn't the best Sonic or the best pinball game. Some of the best music to ever grace the Genesis, too.
Waiting for this review for a while from CGR. Sega + Pinball = Awesome
This game is just awesome. I remember playing it till I finished it, really freaking hard game.
Sweet El Camino! My dad owns an '84. He bought that after we restored a '69 Camaro which is what I drive now.
Man, I loved this game so much when I was a kid. Never did beat it. Time to break out the Genesis.
You're right, this game was rushed out for Christmas '93 because of delays to Sonic 3. The developers admitted the slow frame rate (30fps) was due to the game being coded in C as they didn't have time to write it in assembly language.
One of my best sonic memories was when I figured out how to get the 1st emerald. Sonic looks so cool in this game.
This was sonic for grown ups.
Darkest sonic game ever made. Yes darker than shadow.
I still love it! Something Sonic did on Sega that Mario didn't on Nintendo. So classic here!
Mark can review anything and make it worth watching.
He owns a toy factory so he's going quite well. He's a really kind hearted man, giving so many games and things (even toys) to Mark. He mentioned this on the interview I think.
I learned a lot about the lesser known game consoles from this epic channel and that really is gonna help me in my video game design class in high school.
One time I actually used saved points and beat this game. It never got any better...
That intro narration never gets old. CGR banned from Earth? Of course! Because it's too good of a show for the normal human brain to comprehend!
There was also a pinball mini-game in Sonic heroes that was the basis for an entire set of levels.
I convinced my friend back in 1994 to buy this game because I thought it was Sonic Triple Trouble for the Mega Drive (go figure) and featured Sonic with Knuckles and Tails.
He kept blaming me for months
I loved this game as a kid
Sonic Spinball was the first game that I've bought for my genesis, let me tell you... It's my favorite spin off games of all fricken times.
I love this game, my favorite video game pinball game along with Devil's Crush.
I remember seeing that they were gonna make a real pinball table based of Sonic Spinball
I liked this game but could never beat it. Swapped it with a friend for Sonic 3 and never looked back!
I remember watching these vids every time I went to the beach on vacation. I will next spring & summer.
i have a soft spot for this game, as it was just one of the first games i got Christmas 93 with a model 2 Genesis
Well at least it's better than the Game Gear version.
Yep
They need to remake make this classic Sonic game because it would make me very happy :)
Keep up the map thing. That's pretty neat, seeing where all the games come from
That's because IT IS, this game is actually quite enjoyable, even though I've only played the GameGear version. And by the looks of it, the Genesis version is even more fun.
One of my fave Genesis games!
One of my faviorite sonic games I wish the would make a sequel one day on xbox live arcade or psn
This game was my childhood
I remember owning this game, but never made it pass the jetflying level. Fact it maybe sometimes want to switch over to Sonic 3 combine with Sonic and Knuckles.
I miss this game.
Mark, if you haven't had the pleasure, you should definitely review Crue Ball for the Genesis. The absolute best pinball game ever...
Mohammad from Qatar! Without him, where would CGR be?
I never had this game back then but from when I tried it a few months ago, I could only get that far too, maybe second emerald, I'm not sure, keep in mind that Mark is a damn fine pinballer
Very interesting game, loved it as a kid too!
While watching the video I notice he had the 1st edition Genesis. My Genesis was where u slide the cartridge in the middle.
Damn! You're right! 14 years ago today... damn I feel old as fuck.
i still play this game
Man that is a great microphone.
I remember playing this game when I was around the age of five, and I was always struggling. I still felt the need to play it though, games now-a-days just can't give you that emmersive experience :/.
no reason to give up on sonic for dbz - you can like them both, because they're BOTH awesome!
I like Mohammed, he reminds me that gamers are gamers, and it doesn't matter where they're from. Keep on keepin' on, Mohammed!
Oh god, I almost forgot how bad the framerate was in this title, odd for a sonic game, let alone a PINBALL one. It's also hard as bones.
He has. It was a two part review.
I have this game and I agree but I love the music
Honestly this game was extremely frustrating but I can never say I rage quit, it was a good time and the music was great
Mark should get Devil's Crash, that's a great pinball game.
Had this game back then. Loved it!
"The Showdown" is so unforgiving.
you only hear a brief part of it in this review, but for all its faults this game's boss theme is GREAT
I've read somewhere that the game was a rush job and thus programmed in a higher level C++ instead of Assembly. The compiled code was not efficient enough for the Genesis and the cause of the slowness.
If there's a game that deserves a proper remake, it's this one. Just iron out the flaws and it could become something great.
I played this game so much as a kid. I never beat it but I did get to level 3 or 4 until it got too hard. I still have it in the closet but am afraid of letting it demolish me for free lol.
I was really worried about Truxton until 0:39.
you don't need to paddle to the first chaos emerald.... I never even knew you could do that. you just get to that cart room and drop in
Always wanted this one as a kid to complete my sonic collection but never got it 😣................😄
ah saw this game being speed runned at SGDQ! looks awesome!
There is actually a good reason why the game runs slow. It was coded in C rather than the standard practice of coding a game in Assembly. It takes far more CPU cycles to process C than the M68000 Assembly.
They did make a Sonic pinball table, but I don't think it was based on spinball.
Another hilarious review from Mark. He's like a TV personality, at least to me, at this point!
Love the map!
I had this for GameGear when I was a kid. If you thought the Genesis version was slow and frustrating, the GameGear version was even worse.
I actually like this game, and I beaten it before. It's not really that hard, it just takes some time to adjust.
I LOVE this game!
I had a love/hate relationship with this game.
Hah ohh man the nostalgia, I remember playing this when I was a kid :)
He's interviewed Mohammad on Skype in one of his videos...I think.
I love this game
i had and loved this game asa kid
Hopefully to any who play this, they haven't burned away too many brain cells from the anger of dying more than in any other Sonic game even if they were a rookie. I couldn't get passed the second level and I think I died around ten or fifteen times with four or five game overs.
I liked this game as a kid, but it always felt weird... like the Game Gear / Master System Sonic games... I guess that makes the Game Gear version of Spinball double weird.
I OWN and LOVE this game!
Love this game
Cool spin off game. Not as good as the main series, but still good. I've added it a few weeks ago to my collection. Oh, and it's not do hard as everyone thinks.
I enjoy playing the first level.
every level after that is just frustratingly hard.hence never getting past the third level .
just picked this up, I can only make it to the second level so far. Yes its hard.lol
The map = genius!.
Sonic Spinball for Sega Genesis: The original ear rape.
+Matheusfpolis1 It's not that bad.
+Matheusfpolis1 The Ear Rape isn't that awful in the cartridge version.
This is when Sega invented dubstep.
Believe it or not. Sonic Spinball is my favorite Sonic game. I am better at it than any of the other Sonic games. lol I have been to the 4th table or level. I am determined to beat it some day. Need to get back to it and beat it.
Love this game... except The Showdown! That level is the origin of so much agony!
Got this game with the case at a thrift store for 5 bucks!
Holy crap, me too! :D
I got this and Aladdin boxed for five bucks each at Goodwill. :3
I've never got past the first level still a good game though
Mark is good at pinball.
I fucking loved this game
This really doesn't push the hardware limits at all, after playing stuff like Alien Soldier, Ristar and Vectorman that's quite obvious. If the game suffers from slowdown that's because the team at Sega were dozing off while developing it.
hes interviewed him :)
i wonder if overclocking the genesis would make this game more playable
How come no one mentions the game designs resembles Satam?
I picked up crue ball for a pound, best pinball game EVAR
Dude. Wtf! What ManTopia are you in?! 😲🤘
No he's on a never ending mission to review EVERYTHING, says so in the intro.
This game came as a pack in title for my genesis.
Its a unique type of pinball action game people missunderstood
How can you send a game for mark to review would love to see super ghouls n ghost or gradius. 3
Because they use bots or multiple logins to thumb them up and keep them in view in the comments section.
Also this game was made by Sega of America, Yuji Naka the creator of Sonic was not involved. That´s why it´s technically not that well made, but that didn´t stop me from enjoying it. You think that is slow? Try the Game Gear version hehe...
Also vems collection when are you going to take a look at sonic R
"jerky and sluggish"? you're crazy, Mark! this game is perfect.
