    Despite the fact that I didn't exist in 1992, I did have a rather long history with this game.
    I first played it in 2005 on the Mega Collection plus for the PS2 and this game and Sonic & Knuckle were 2 of my favorite games on the PS2. I sucked balls at first but I practiced and practiced and when I finally got to the final boss in 2006, (yes the year of the 06 abomination) I was given Heroes, Shadow and Riders all for the PS2 for christmas and gave a shot at those games after I got a Game Over at the final boss with no continues.
    4 years later, My older cousin (Annie) gave me a fully functional Genesis along with the complete Sonic Trilogy, Spinball, Golden Axe, Ristar, Cool Spot and my least favorite Awesome Possum. At first I thought the Genesis was broken when I first tried it out till I figured out that there was dust all over the bottom of the cartridges so It's now a sensation where it's mandatory for me to blow on the cartridges before playing them. Sadly all I have left now is this game, Spinball and Cool Spot (on the bright side. No more Awesome Possum. Good F#cking Riddance!) Also I got an 360 in 2011 with 2 of my fist games for the system being Ultimate Genesis Collection and Generations.
    Even though I'm 8 years younger than this game, I still playing this game to this day and loving every single minute of it. Probably one of my favorite Sonic games. BTW I finally managed to beat the final boss in 20...12 I think?

    blast processing at its finest

    • @graffitigorsk2989
      @graffitigorsk2989 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blast processing just a commercial gimmick to proteome the Genesis's sipped while Nintendo does have better graphics and better sound, still I love sonic 2

    • @Anzu-ru
      @Anzu-ru 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Brian Gorski Blast processing is an actual thing. It's a cooler way to say that the Genesis had a faster processor than other consoles, meaning the games could be/run faster.

    • @FunkMastaMegaFlex
      @FunkMastaMegaFlex 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Gorski It was a gimmick, but reality though, Genesis/MegaDrive had a much faster processor than SNES, though as you mentioned the SNES outshines and mortally demolishes the Genesis/MegarDrive in just about every other catorgy from available colors to sound cards lol, I also love Sonic 2, and Sonic 2 with Knuckles as the character.

    • @Zedek
      @Zedek 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FunkMastaMegaFlex Nope, the Genesis had a high-resolution mode outshining the SNES and does not rely on low-quality sound samples with tons of reverb for music playback, but the great YM2612 which is apparently based on *the* keyboard of the 80s: Yamaha DX7.

    • @TorutheRedFox
      @TorutheRedFox 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Gorski The SNES doesn't have better graphics.Its the cartridge with some chips inside.

    That Sonic saved cute animals from being batteries to robots made it a very good/moral game!!! Too bad it hasn't been a trend starter (like at all!), all games should be this moral!! !!

  • @katakisLives

    My favourite level in this game was Casino nights Zone! it had many improvements like the spin dash mode! Tails was not really fully featured though until Sonic 3 when he gained the ability to actually fly!

  • @DennisForstner
    @DennisForstner 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Classic Sonic really enforces the idea of practice making perfect. Seriously the more you play the better you will get. But I'm guessing that's true with many 2D platformers.

    • @zanegandini5350
      @zanegandini5350 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Some people complained that the levels were too short in 2 so they made big elaborate levels for three. If you want an elaborate game 3 and the Knuckles are great in that aspect. 2 is a game about speed. 2 captured that flawlessly.

    First of all I must say I really liked your comment, and you come of as a nice person, something you don't see enough in the comment section. But I want to clear some things up about myself. I did not grow up with the classic games, my first one was Sonic Heroes, which many people seem to hate. I stuck around because the Sonic franchise I think has a lot of great atributes. I grew up with the 3d games, but I have the 2d ones now, and my Sonic collection is pretty admireably huge, 2d and 3d.

    I freaking love these sonic games. Huge fan. I grew up with them back in the early 90s. I was so happy to get a sega genesis model 2 for my birthday. I played sonic 2 for hours. I still remember most of the codes like debug code, level select and all chaos emeralds. I can easily make the game glitch out so bad it resets itself lol. I own all 1-3 sonic games and sonic and knuckles even own sonic spinball. Btw sonic and 3 and knuckles is so fun.

  • @TheRealDustinNunn

    Sonic 2 is a fun game. It may not have save data back up like Sonic 3, but it is a really fun game. The only complaint I have with Sonic 2 is it's crappy half-pipe special stages. I hate them so much. I prefer getting Super Sonic the easier way by using the "All Emeralds" cheat. The best special stage ever in my opinion is the Blue Sphere special stages. Just collect all the blue spheres, retrieve the emerald, and get on out of there.

    stuff going on at once. There are so many parts where you can finally go fast but then get hit almost exactly as you get to a dead end. Carnival Night Zone is actually pretty good in my opinion. It has a flow that actually feels like Sonic Games. You can actually kinda go fast which is the point of Sonic. But that's how far I got before a game over. There are also way too many parts where you get caught into a corner and you're forced to play Blue Sphere (which I don't like as much as the others

    Unfortunately the Ultimate Genesis Collection is NOT on PC, HOWEVER there is a collection you can get called the Sega Genesis Classic Collection Gold Edition. I got the physical copy for like 10-15 bucks and it has a TON of awesome Genesis games, many of which are not even on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. They have this Gold Edition collection on Steam...sorta, but it's WAY more expensive than what I paid for the DVD-ROM version of the game.

    The only problem with this game (besides it not being on the GameCom) is that if you have a lot of rings, and are playing two-player, this game has slowdowns when you get hit and lose the 469 rings you collected. Some other games made near the end of the Genesis's lifespan also had slowdown. The solution is to simply turn on blast processing with a 10MHz crystal oscillator and three wires. The only problem with that is it then won't work with the 32x and Sega CD... Oh well, I don't use those anyways because I don't own either on those, and the Genesis's power brick barely fits on my power strip alongside my TV, Modded original Xbox, 360, Xbox One, Raspberry Pi, GameStick, ChromeCast, a kinect for the 360 and one for the XBOne, and N64, which are all plugged into a massive HDMI hub controlled by another Raspberry Pi, which I can control over WiFi to switch the HDMI hub to whichever device I want to use at the moment. And there's barely enough space to fit Sonic the Hedgehog, Halo 2, Halo 4, Minecraft 360 edition, and MarioKart 64 off to the side.

    I got into buying a retro gaming system recently and it took a while before I settled with the Sega Genesis. I had okay memories with it, but SNES was so much more to my liking when I was younger. To my surprise, I started getting into the Genesis way more when revisiting the older consoles.. largely because I got into streets of rage 2. Games like these really highlight the good parts of that console! Great music & vibrant colors which were sorely lacking in the ps3/xbox360 era of sepia games. It's a console that gets a bad rep for sound quality but that's only because Sega started making cheaper, worse versions as time went on :/
    Had I played all the amazing american/japanese games when I was younger, I would have had an entirely different childhood. Air Buster, After Burner 2, Alisia Dragoon, Castlevania, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 1 & 2, Phantasy Star 4, Bomberman, Rolling Thunder, Rocket Knight, Valis 3, ... This system was amazing, but all we had was Sonic 1 & 2 .. and even then we played it for hours.

    I had a Genesis, and then switched to Nintendo consoles for N64 onward pretty much. I'm sure a large part of it is because I owned the Genesis, but the same could be said for NES owners as well I suppose. That being said, I have played the original Mario games several times.

    This inspired me to play Sonic 2 again (well this video and the Con I picked up my Used Genesis and Game from). I got all the way to Metropolis Act 3 (something I never did as I child). It's not nearly as difficult as I remember but, still great fun!

    Is it me or gets the Intergalactic Space Arcade more awesome with every video? I didn't even know that was even possible.

    personally I like this better than the first. and I cant say that about Mario. but I think sonic cd was a little bit over the top. I think james rolfe said it best. sonic cd is like sonic on crack.

    You're nuts Mark.
    The new intergalactic space arcade looks great by the way, but I find the lack of flamethrowers in there disturbing.

    I'm confused about the collections and downloadable versions after the Gamecube version.
    Can any of them actually properly connect the cartridges together with Sonic & Knuckles?
    I refuse to buy any of them because I'm too worried they won't actually synergize. :/

    So they can read through and interact with the other save files some how? Wii / Wii U / Xbox 360? That's what I was always afraid of.

    The Intergalatic Space Arcade's looking much nicer with its less-bare features. More stuff on the wall and a disco ball! Seriously, keep that thing on from now on. It looks cool.

    Never did like water levels in games, this one in particular. I played this at my mom's friends house back in the 90's. This is how I was introduced to the the Sega Genesis. This game made me motion sick. Later I found other Sega games that I enjoyed. I did play Sonic Pinball and got to the last level, yet it was a pain just playing, trying to get sonic to go where you wanted him and do what needed to be done, to get to the next level.

    Sonic 2 was the first genesis game i had =p. I still remember (well since i recently played it) the cloud stage. That music is so damned good. Matter of fact so are most of the songs in the game.

    Well, I just played Sonic 3 and yeah sonic controls the same but the level design and enemies are what you have to deal with. Angel Island Zone is not too bad besides some annoying springs. Hydro City Zone has the end where you can drown from the water because you can't move until the music ends and stuff. The rest of that zone almost plays itself with the weird hands that make you do a Super Peel Out (Which I kept missing since they're hidden underground. Marble Garden Zone has way too much
