I admire all your hard work. I guess I cheated. I had 4 Southern E8's and fitted the older LifeLike shells to new walthers chassis. I really like the tsunami sound and the new walthers drives. I have a short video of the 4 of them together. Thanks for posting this great video.
Best trucks made in ho scale with the floating bearings and the sprung design. Motors are great. Adjust the brush springs. They lose their tension over time . Once tuned they will run smooth and quiet.
Rodumus, very well done! Question: In removing the weight aren't you sacrificing pulling power? I was wondering if it just the rear section of the weight could be cut off so that their would be space for the speakers. Seems like there is space for the decoder on top of the weight. What do you think?
I havent really done a pull test on them, actually getting ready to remove the loksound in these in favor of tsunami 2, I need to use the loksounds for other projects and i have some tsunami 2s laying around I need to use up. I think with 2 of these consisted together it should be able to pull what it needs to, if not there are more efficient ways of adding weight in
I have Milwaukee Road E8/E9's and would like to convert them like you did so thanks for this video. Did you ever do the video you discussed showing your locos running with sound? I could not find it?
Very informative! Just getting back into the hobby and have been picking up some proto e7 and 8's for customizing. Would be very interested in any additional mods and demos on these.
What is the part number of the Athearn motor compatible with the Proto 2000 E8/9? Also, does Genesis have a compatible motor? If so, what is that part number?
Very informative; looks like cell pone video. Buy a "selfee" stick which will allow you to clamp the cell phone in position and free both hands yielding smoother video. If a regular video camera, but an inexpensive tripod to achieve the same result - better video.
He said it was a LokSound Select, friend, and TCS Wow Sound speakers (looks like 28 mm round). Unfortunately those have been discontinued. A board-style LokSound 5 would do even better, IF you can find one, or the Tsunami2 decoder for EMD diesels has a dual 567 sound file. As for speakers, look at Scale Sound Systems. They use sugar cube speakers permanently set into resonating chambers that get sound quality equivalent to a dual speaker setup out of a single speaker. They also have custom designed units for specific engines, including for Proto2000 E8/9s, which will allow you to keep the large frame weight as well.

with your installation eliminating the heavy weight from it you will lose the great tractive effort it provides the model which means you won't be able to pull as many cars anymore

Ive had zero issues with pulling power, i did add some weight back with aline plates
