Not to worry. It only took the CCP from the 1950's until January of 2017 to learn how to make the tiny steel balls that go in ballpoint pens, so surely the CCP can develop bearings for HSR within the next 200 years.

Because China broke its contract with the Japanese and German firms, they do not supply China with wheels and bearings. In addition, neither firm will help China with its train control system that effects the trains with other trains.

The problem with Chinese manufacturing companies is that they are hardcore lowballers and want the cheapest price possible. So they're usually unwilling to buy "high-end" precision parts for domestic manufacturing/use. Good enough is good and if it breaks, make another one. It just has to look good enough to pass the bare minimum requirement. Lots of companies mostly use imported parts for equipment that they export. Their cheapness is destroying their own industry. The country technologically developed quickly, but the people did not catch up as fast. Fake it till you make it is huge here especially in school, work, industry and most aspects of life.

There are many brands available, but the only ones that hold up to ongoing use are those with the words 'Made in Japan' on the packaging. If it does not show its country of origin, it's likely from China and while they are cheap you really only get what you pay for.

It's well known that countries like North Korea and Iran are out there attempting to buy advanced technology items from Western countries (that includes Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan despite their geographic locations) in order to reverse engineer them, enabling them to steal the technology and make their own unlicensed copies. That's why nobody wants to sell high tech items to them, especially if they also have potential military uses. China is just as bad and should be treated the same as those other untrustworthy countries when it comes to being allowed to purchase items containing sensitive technology. They have become notorious for their use of corporate espionage and intellectual property theft.
Su Bin - Convicted Chinese hacker and spy who had been living in Canada in an email to his CCP handlers boasted that the F-22 and F-35 fighter jet documents he helped steal would, in his words, “allow China to catch up rapidly with US levels and stand easily on the giants’ shoulders.”

I think how the HSR infrastructure is built also needs some addressing.
While they have the best high-speed railway infrastructure in terms of mileage, operating standards and bridge-tunnel ratios, some lines still suffered from Tofu-dreg quality (Particularly the GuiZhou tunnel section of the Shanghai-KunMing line), and the planning of newer lines are extremely questionable.
Local governments force these planning high-speed lines to take indirect and uneconomical routes at 350km/h and made the time effectiveness of these new lines worse than a 200km/h line. Take the 350km/h Hankou-Shiyan line for example, it takes such a twisty route that it takes longer for Shangyang residents to go to Hankou than the older 200km/h trains that run conventional lines.
By the time that the 'King of HSR Twisters', the Beijing-Hong Kong line is built and with little through traffic, the Chinese HSR bubble would burst and a lot more problems would be exposed by the public limelight.

Well, act like a low thief, achieve almost total slow & steady , grindy economic and spiritual death. Not so slow and not so nice for the good Chinese citizens though. It took the Pooh regime just a few decades to confuse and sabotage themselves into the National Incompetence Hall of Fame/Shame!

Thanks to Reagan and Tatcher, behind whom our rich industrialists and financiers hid, thinking that one day, if necessary for reasons of national security, we'd have our military industry left to fight them. It's the same club that just won the U.S. election that provoked this political-financial aberration, and is now taking offense. China has released more CO2 than the whole of Europe since the beginning of the industrial era. We, the rich, are the architects of this, to the detriment of our own citizens, sacrificed on the altar of the most lucrative financial return. Don't tell me we are dumb enought to not understanding what China was planning to the world? Yes, shame on them, but also to us!

Bearings eliminate friction by rolling whereas lubrication reduces friction by creating a protective low friction coating between parts. The downside of lubrication is that viscosity changes with temperature more than the thermal expansion of metal bearings, and lubrication is more difficult to work with, it leaks, and needs regular replacement.
Bearings are just way too good at what they do

These are considered to be the “new” four great inventions' in China, high-speed railway, online shopping, mobile payment and sharing bikes.* China cannot advance as a true tier one country without first in class metallurgy and tooling. These require time, patience and commitment to successfully achieve. Without these time honored conditions to research and develop high level metallurgical properties for todays advanced technologies and products, China will simply continue being the world’s leading producer and supplier of sub-tier copied materials, technology and products. One only needs to look at China’s military aircraft, space program and computer chip technology to see blatant examples of Chinese sub-performing knockoffs of Western technology to validate this fact.
