Just fantastic idea! Funny though, someone viewing the video might make somthing similar and then get frustrated when they think pulling the split logs out would be easy! I'm sure you have to utilize the assembly line method and keep pushing them out

I have built one like the temest. the tables on the end to hold ur logs or to even push in to a trailer or the back of ur truck is very nice and alot less handling of wood u sold put u a table on it... o and by the way that is awesome... good job....

Could you do a walk around video of the splitter? How the ram is connected to the i-beam? The size of the lifting cylinder? I am building one, and I want to utilize your dad's great design. Better than the temptest for sure, thanks!

very nicely done, nothing wrong with using old stuff to get started, Build my 6 ton splitter in 1979 rebuild with all new stuff 2013 to 27 ton. all that time only replaced 1 hose and motor both were used parts also 1 - 12" cylinder not replaced. a little more speed could be had using a 22 gpm 2 stage pump and replacing any 90* elbows with bigger radius turns will control heat better. log lift is good sometimes but does require lots of room and walking around splitter allot, a swivel boom with 12 v winch and timber dogs is a big back saver and step saver and room saver. Really like your wedge - have been planing to do a wedge like it maybe 2 layers of split wood coming out and pushing up a slide to load trailer, handling less would be real good, -- another good thing for me would be a way to stack my 10' x 6' x 60' stack without handling each piece of wood lol lol ! ! ! .

awesome but why isnt the cutting grate large enough to do the whole log in one pass? im certain there must be a reason but i cant think what it might be

I have built a few of these for sale..Nice idea BUT, the push bar is too short and you need to add another layer of splitters on top. ONE Stroke and you would be finished. Just helping.
Agreed. This splitter split many cords with virtually no issues. But its since been modified, many times. Maybe someday I'll post pics of the current configuration. Push bar remains the same though, never had an issue with it.

this is awesome and me and my friend are close to having one made pretty much just like it but the cutting head won't stay on the table, is there anyway to get any close up pictures of that area??
do you mean the cylinder lifts off the table?
D Brooks It wont' lift off the table, the slide has lips on it that grabs under the table. Thats what the two slots in the table top are for.
could you make it a "two story tall" splitter, twice the output?
+mark marchiafava I would guess your only limited to how strong your hydraulics are.
I'd think if it WERE twice as tall, a fella could REALLY turn out some wood in a lot less time, wouldn't you? Anyone with some hydraulic smarts know the answer to this?
