Your jaw falls on the floor with Freddie King's total command of the guitar until you hear him sing. What divine gifts this man who left us so early possessed.
This was a local TV show produced and broadcast on WFAA, the ABC affiliate in Dallas. This looks like the original master tape, or perhaps a one generation copy. The technical quality is amazing for 1966. Also amazing is that a local station would have the budget for a house band this large.

So many great bluesmen who never got their due. One of my other favorite lesser known blues guitarists was Earl Hooker. Everyone knows John Lee Hooker but Earl Hooker was one smoking player!
He was just as good as B. B. King and Albert King. The three kings. I grew up listening to all three and I love all three of them the same ❤️💙💕💙💕♥️. All three of the king's is gone but not forgotten and may their souls rest in peace and in God's loving arms around them.
What’s incredible about this to me is there used to be tv shows just dedicated to music, I wish we still had that Flip thru the channels and randomly see Freddie king on one channel, another channel some no name local band that’s gonna blow up.
And a great bass player holding on to it! Did I read somewhere that he was Gatemouth's brother? The whole house band is excellent and it's so rare to hear an almost completely live series of shows, well recorded, from that era. In the UK, almost nothing was broadcast live and when TOTP and TOGWT eventually had a go at it, they soon reverted to miming-to-playback...

The Beat might be the greatest collection of pure music performance ever on tv without the crap (lip sync, etc). Just great legendary original artists that (let’s face it) everyone else copied
Several of these now-classic shows taped mostly on February 14 & 15, 1966. Each half-hour show must have taken 50 minutes to an hour to tape. The whole cast, house band and guest stars must have been in that studio anywhere from 8 to 10 hours making those consecutive episodes. Harder work than it appeared to the viewer.
Good call. I was noticing that many of these songs are edited together from multiple takes. The camera is always on the right soloist, which is much better than most ”libe" music shows of the time, which were lio-synced Nd often just one take.

You are a fine singer and the Commanders were a vocal group with a lot of style. Jimmy Church came over as just loving the music and wanted to be involved. I am not surprised he is still singing and entertaining after all these years. Sadly, I won't be able to see him in Nashville, but you can tell him he has a fan in Scotland.

You know, for a southern white man in the 1960s Hoss Allen was a hip cat.

Hoss called everyone Honey. That was a term of endearment he used often back then.
