Otis Redding's 'Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay' was probably taken from (or inspired by) Freddie King's 'Sittin' On The Boat Dock''.
This is totally bad-ass!
I must say my favourite Curtis is absolutely I'm So Proud. What a fantastic programme this is thanks for the upload! KTF from a Northern Soulie
49:00 As I said two years earlier, The Beatles *SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ON THE VEE-JAY(V.J.) LABEL AT ALL!* Vee-Jay had *NO BUSINESS* carrying The Beatles or *ANY OTHER* artist, duo, trio or group(4 or more members) on EMI's roster *WHATSOEVER!* As Capitol was owned *ALMOST OUTRIGHT* from 1955 and *ABSOLUTELY OUTRIGHT* from 1980 by EMI(The Gramophone Co.) of Britain, Capitol should've been *OBLIGED* to carry *ALL OF EMI'S BRITISH, AUSTRALIAN, NEW ZEALAND AND EUROPEAN ROSTER* into Canada, and the less-important American market, and Capitol *SHOULD"VE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO SAY IN THE MATTER AT ALL!*
It's too late for that, what's done is done!
38:00 Billy Davis was a cousin of Berry Gordy Jr., and co-wrote songs under the pseudonym *Tyran Carlo.*
Thank you for posting this show!
I didn’t think Recently Gay Republican George Santos was a thing in the ‘60s
a significant fraction of the time it appeared they were playing along to a backing track, and in one case a phonograph record complete with surface noise! those things aside, this is a cool and COLOR VIDEOTAPED [NOT a kine!] document of an era.
This guy singing James Brown dont have no talent.. no wonder why he is singing some ones song...
I think Freddie King jumped a little too high for himself at, 21:18. He almost fell over, going backwards.

The real OG, pioneered Rhythm & Blues music
Wonderful ! So great Show ! Amazing vocals , outstanding musicians, great host just music babe !! Thanks for sharing this videos.
I remember when a lot of kids wanted to be like James Brown. Even though they had no talent like this kid😆😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was why I lost my mind - the greatest music ever!
Long before Soul Train this was 1966 Nashville, TN ! When you actually had to have talent to appear on television.
Nothing beats Freddie King!
Joe Simon starts at the 14:20 minute mark 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤🙏🙏🙏✨️✨️♥️♥️R.I.P JOE SIMON.
Mitty Collier begins at the 10:40 minute mark.....very special performance ❤❤🙏🙏✨️✨️♥️♥️.
✨️Patti LABELLE✨️ and the ✨️Bluebells✨️ start at the 16:46 minute mark ; so I'll remember to come back many times for this ✨️supremely outstanding performance✨️ 🎉🎉✨️✨️🙏🙏♥️♥️🎉🎉🙏🙏.
❤😂❤
Thank you for posting these! I wonder if there are any photos of this show when they were recording it
Cadillac records would've been so much more received had it not been circled around Beyonce
The Beat might be the greatest collection of pure music performance ever on tv without the crap (lip sync, etc). Just great legendary original artists that (let’s face it) everyone else copied
❤ 8:20
With two of the hardest working go-go dancers from the 60s 😆
The line up for this episode is amazing!!!
I like those dresses on the dancers. Well done with the color coordination.
who's on organ?
The three background singers next to Patti, can pass for sisters, from, 18:10, to,18:25.
Dave, the one on the right side, who is tallest of the two, said, "elude her," VERY nice, at, 2:26.
It, "elude her," was said, at, 22:26.
African Americans back then tried hard, had talent, had class, and everyone loved them.
Its real funny how, from, 23:06, to 23:09, the ladies in light-green had to step over a cord. The first one had a little trouble. The three that followed, stepped over, "cooler, and cooler." The short one, who was last, looked at the cord, like, "who you think I am, I ain't EVEN tripping over you."
It's REAL SMOOTH, how, the, now, GREAT PATTI LaBELLE , who is wearing light green, and is shown, second from the right, caught onto the foot movements/jumps of Dave, from, 23:17, to, 23:23, and was right in sync with him. Dave is in orange, and is the one closest to Otis Reading, the show host.-YOU ACED IT PATTI.
The lady in the light-green, on the far right, is dancing VERY JAZZY, AND SEXY, from, 23:13, to the end of the video. She is to Patti LaBelle's left.
Just look at the footsteps taken by Dave from, THE SECOND he walks out there at, 20:57, to, 21:04. It was BEAUTIFUL HOW EACH STEP WAS EXAAACTLY with the music beat. EVEN THE LAST FOUR TAPS with his right foot was EXACT, at 21:03, and, 21:04. That's the mark of a true professional, who knows about music. Dave is the one who comes out last, of the duet.
THESE ARE GREAT, RACHEL! I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I HAD NO IDEA THIS AMAZING SHOW EXISTED..( BUT! I WAS BORN IN 1966...SO....)! Much LOVE and MAD RESPECT FROM NEW ORLEANS BABY! ^..^ ⚜🎺🎷🥁🎭🍺🥃🦐🦞🦀🐊
This is GREAT. Rap sucks.
MITTY COLLIER... so so good
Barbara Lynn still sounds great!
I notice Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown doesn't appear on the last few shows. Anybody know why?
And this! Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells' rendition of Over the Rainbow makes it hard to believe these are the same ladies who recorded I Sold My Heart To the Junkman! Voulez vous coucher?
Have to add this! I've always wondered what the hell Mr. and Mrs. Sledge were thinking hen they named him Percy???!!! When a Man Loves a Woman hit the charts "stage names" were still common, and one print commentator remarked "Percy Sledge has to be his real name!"
Sadly, this dynamite show was The !!!!Beat's last. According to his Wikipedia bio, Bill "Hoss" Allen was so distraught over the show's cancellation he got too drunk to host, so Otis Redding stepped in. This classic musical showcase matches the equally iconic Shindig! and these online streamings and DVD recordings thankfully preserve the truly fantastic popular music explosion of the '60s.
The trumpet player is my brother John farris
Does anyone out there know the names of Otis' backing band members?
This is the same band that accompanied Otis on the British READY, STEADY, GO! show in 1966. That performance and the James Brown T.A.M.I. Show performance from 1964 are the best ever!
GI Jive is so true.
GI Jive from WW2 1944.
Hoss reminds me of Elvis in his speaking gestures.
Much as I love Freddie I'll never understand the whole guitar strap on the right shoulder thing 😂
