They had some heavy card games on the bus..Dave Maxwell loved playing with Deacon Jones on Hammond .No doubt they are grooving in Heaven...R.I.P my friends..!!
Wonderful to have the memory (and also to be able to revisit it, on TH-cam !) I have a few memories of seeing Freddie play live - The 100 Club in Oxford Street,London. I was about 5 foot away from the great man . . . ; ))
I discovered Freddie about 2008 I think, waaay to late, but even better... (born 67 and little did I know that the best music I would discover four decades later...)
You're the pretty blonde he smiles at every time he finishes a blistering riff. 'And I knew without asking, she was into the blues.' Viva la France. God bless America. p.s. If you like things French, try George Bernanos.
Saw Freddie King in Toledo in 1974 as i remember. He was late arriving due to his bus breaking down.We were in the front table next to the stage.FK was a Giant of a Man huge crown belt buckle. (very appropriate) I am 69 yoa and have NEVER seen before or after ANYTHING like Him! GREATEST guitar player EVER and one hell of a vocalist! FIVE ENCORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw Freddie years ago in NJ way out in the pine Barrens. He was fantastic. To this day my favorite is I'd Rather BE Blind written by Leon Russell & recorded with Leon, Freddie & Jim Gordon. They are all passed on. But ...today I am working on that very song to record for a u-tube download with The Clovis Creek Band. Thank you & God Bless you Freddie. He was truly "The Texas Cannonball".🌹🌠🎼
I think he is hitting a high b note on vocals while playing sweet home chicago. I dont think people truly understand how amazing, effortless and gritty his vocals were! Holy Moly!!!
ME 2 David..YES he did..Hardest Working Guitar...He was a Beautiful, Powerful, Teddy Bear..He loved all Peoples..I miss HIM and wish he were here butt we know that cant be..
The True Source, of so many great guitarists, is revealed in this video. All the Kings are deserving of their name; Albert, BB, but for me Freddie throws himself into every note with an energy that comes from a sense of timing, originating in the moment.
I know i have been lucky, i remember he changed jackets because of sweat, he had a beautiful jacket (mustard) Every week they recorded Pop 2 for the french TV, i run from school, took my bus and subway: it lasted almost 2 years. we paid 5 francs, 1$, that was my week money! Now i live in Canada, where do you live?
Hi, (i don't know your name), I'm curious about Argentina. Do you get to see many blues bands in Buenos Aires? International bands or local? Do you play any instrument? I play guitar myself (not as good as Freddie:-)). I even played in a small blues band in Toulouse France, in 1993, just for the fun. At the time i had a weekly Blues radio show in a community radio, i loved it. If you want to see pictures i've made of blues and jazz musicians and other pictures you can go to my website: www.photo-graphisme.ca/ Have a nice day Danielle

Richard Sørensen Melvyn "Deacon" Jones . . . The "most" Hammond organ ever, IMO. See the Old Grey Whistle Test clip of this band playing "Boogie Funk" if you have not done so already.
My favorite King of the 3 Kings: Freddie King. Second is Albert King, good vocals and good lefty Flying V technique. Never liked the other guy. Freddie had a unique voice and style. True grit you might say, honest soulful playing from the heart. I miss him to this day. He left us way too young. I'm sure because of his complete depth of feeling and honesty he went straight to heaven.
Agree with you, but it is hard pick one for being my favorite between Freddie and Albert. I like a lot of both. But I like BB as well, however is my third favorite King. All of them were amazings and kings.
I agree with your order but do not agree with the 'other guy' comment. The order in terms of playing and outward talent may be true, but in terms of what they brought to the genre they are all equals. They all had major influence on other artists that may have sounded differently if not for them, lots of guitarist have taken from B.B king. If not his playing style (J.J Cale is my favorite example of that), then his actual songs in general, lot's have been covered and made popular by other blues men. He also had an interest in bringing all the blues men together for some incredible performances (not to say Albert and Freddie wouldn't do that, we have no idea since they are no longer with us). Albert and Freddie both did performances with other guitarists, like SRV and Clapton respectively, but never brought as many people together as B.B King has over the years. B.B King also has some incredible songs, they are just hidden and not that well known. I personally love his cover of the song 'Summer in the City' off of the 'Guess who' album (also love the album cover). I also generally like his songs/albums featuring another artists rather than his solo ones
It always wigs me out that he played with his strap over his shoulder, but not his neck. I tried it once and accidentally threw my guitar into the pool.
They had some heavy card games on the bus..Dave Maxwell loved playing with Deacon Jones on Hammond .No doubt they are grooving in Heaven...R.I.P my friends..!!

The solo at 13:00 is just out of this world!
Has anybody noted how he wears his strap? He is only, like, half wearing the guitar. 13:55.
Not the only... Albert Collins weared his strap like Freddie...
That was Freddy's style
As did Tony T.S. McPhee of The Groundhogs . . . !
