F-ZERO Maximum Velocity Speedrun in

- This time was set about 6 months ago on Twitch, but I never uploaded it to TH-cam since I wasn't completely satisfied with it. I was just able to narrowly defeat BPA's time (43"33) which was the WR back then. Since it's now been a while and I don't know when I'll return to the game, I might as well upload it here too.

To summarize the run, it had a good start with the first three tracks in Pawn Cup being green splits which put me 11 seconds ahead. But after that I started playing pretty poorly. I lost several seconds in Knight Cup, though was still able to keep a small lead thanks to my good start. I maintained that lead through most of Bishop Cup too - even setting a gold split on Icarus to be ahead with 5,4 seconds. But on the last track (Ultimate) I had some kind of mental breakdown and I managed to lose my whole lead... With just Queen Cup left I was now 0,8 seconds behind my previous record (and about 3 seconds behind the WR).
Somehow though (maybe because I muted my microphone) I managed to get back my focus for the last cup, and eventually set best splits on 4 out of 5 tracks which made me end up getting the WR by a hair.
The run is very improvable and could easily go 43 low. I think a time under 43 isn't entirely unthinkable either. It would be the god-run though. Maybe we'll see it one day if the competition continues.

If you're wondering why I finish 2nd/3rd on the tracks it's because I can skip the credits much faster that way (saves about 8 seconds per track).

The AI doesn't rubberband, it is outright tied to your back bumper.
35:12 to 37:35 - On the 10th Zone East (Plummet) this is where you become skilled and notice most opponents drops and get eliminated.

Really sad that this game is so underrated. I would love to see it at a gdq, or at least some more runs on youtube.
AGDQ did do f zero snes and Climax and f zero gp. Legend but no speedrunners from GDQ have come to do maximum velocity

So sick how you hold the precision over more than 40 minutes, especially in the end. And F-Zero is a game where you need the focus and control over the car. Besides that it was nice to watch. I always love the design you are making for the streams. keep the motivation fb ! :)

This game has its own charm, it feels like a sequel to F Zero, unlike GP Legends and Climax that feel that they are more in Tune with F Zero X and GX (specially F Zero X).
Except this Sequel takes place in an Alternate Timeline where Falcon didn't win.

Ever think it's funny how players who are better than 99.99% of players call their runs bad frequently? While a lot of players below the 50% praise their skills.

I discovered this game recently, it's good! And I barely knew it existed...
Also what's about the snaking? Does that preserve the momentum of your boost?
The snaking is because the Jet Vermilion has the worst turning in the game, so he's trying to keep it straight while setting up each of the turns.
Speedrunning any of the 3 gba F-Zero games seems to be the only time when placing in 1st actually causes time loss due to being able to skip to the course results screen if you place in 2nd place or lower

Thx. It's because that way I can skip the credits after each track much faster (saves about 8 seconds per track). It's only used for speedruns.

Actually I sent a submission for both this game and TM2S last AGDQ, but sadly they both got rejected... :/ In general racing games aren't very popular as speedruns, so it wasn't that much of a surprise they didn't go through.
***** That's too bad considering GDQ has had F-Zero on (split screen for two racers) and F-Zero X/GX has been on at least twice. I didn't think F-Zero was popular enough so maybe GDQ didn't want a less-popular game on? Are F-Zero and Maximum Velocity really that small compared to the bigger brothers X/GX?

Why don't you drive straight, and why do you always slow down to end up in 3rd place?
He rotates his car before corners so that he can take them without slowing down. In this game, whichever direction your machine is pointed, you can lift off the throttle and back onto it to straighten out. Not sure why he snakes in the straights, though. Probably maintains speed doing it that way.
He drops below 1st (Doesn't have to be 3rd) to skip a time-consuming scene that occurs when you get 1st.
