Released in August 2003, F-Zero GX is the fourth released installment in the F-Zero series and the successor to F-Zero X. The game continues the series' difficult, high-speed racing style, retaining the basic gameplay and control system from the Nintendo 64 game.

At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

He's not making fun of him, I consider everything he says joking compliments. He's egging him on for performance reasons and it makes it more entertaining. He also lost $80 of his own dollars betting him he couldn't achieve certain goals. I see it as friends having fun playing a game. No harm no foul. If anything the playfulness made the run better to me.
The only times CGN's face changes from stonefaced concentration is to crack a big grin. I think that says a lot about how he felt about the run.

One of the most entertaining Speedruns I've seen. I wish more people would take risks to show off cool exploits / risky strats.
Depends on the game. Screwing up a race in F-Zero isnt bad, but when you mess up softlocking a game in the middle of a 3 hour run and still have like 1 hour of air time to fill, you're just fucked ^^
That and it’s F-Zero.

I beat chapters 4,5,6,7,8,and 9 on normal the second day i got it.
I have a theory why shift boosting works.
That "Shift Boosting" against Goroh is about the most ridiculously, absurdly awesome thing I've seen in a racing game.

For those whom never played or new to FZERO franchise at 16:54 or most replayed area.
AS A CASUAL, if you miss one capsule you won't make it since you need a boost. It'll just close and kill you at 00 (You can actually see it close on CGN too and he barely squeezed in)
CGN is momentum boosting so he has enough speed to make it through which is why anyone whom played FZERO GX probably cheered
i do it missing 1 capsule, with less than 0 seconds. Probably the highest time in the world.

@@DaveFallows I have a Wii, but don't see how softmodding helps unless I pirate the game which I can already do on my PC and would like to avoid if possible. In the meantime, I will continue looking for cheaper prices, but I will consider your proposal.
Most intense speedrun I've ever watched.
It helps that it's F-Zero, literally the most adrenaline filled game ever but seriously, this was literally heart thumping.

I think the reason shift boosting gives a boost is because the car converts its downward velocity into forward velocity when it lands back on the track

I come back to this run every few years, probably one of the best ever. This completely blew my mind. It's one thing to hear from the couch how hard some of these tricks are but pulling something like this off after announcing it is truly on another level.

skipped over the intros of the couch, but those guys are some of the best commentators that i've seen agdq. i watched this one and the previous run with yoshi, and both of these guys are truly amazing. definitely one of the better runs that happens at this event in my opinion. that it's all for a great cause makes it twice as good

I remember HATING Chapter 5 Very Hard when I was younger, so seeing it destroyed like that was so satisfying. I remember I once got to the end with exactly 0 seconds. That kills you. (by that point, the final door is closed so much you can't jump through) Yeah, it's that unforgiving. There's NO margin for error.
+BigKlingy I remember when I was little and my sister beat it... we were extremely excited and happy because it was such a frustrating chapter. In my not so fuzzy memory, there really was NO error in what she did, and in all her previous tries she always hit something or did something wrong. I'd say chapter 5, 1, 7 and the final one are the most frustrating and hard because there is no luck involved, at least in three of them.
But even if this game is frustrating, hard, unforgiving, etc, it's what makes it good, because none of it is unfair, plus it controls and plays splendidly.
Honestly, chapter 6 was my bane as a kid. Thankfully, unlike chapter 5, you technically have some leeway in that the bomb doesn't instantly detonate. I crossed the finish line with 1 second left on the bomb.
@@XelchanTheBrave They are frustrating and hard because there is no luck involved?? The ones where you have to be lucky are much more frustrating. When I know it was my own fault I can't complain. Chapter 4 is much worse imo, it's the one that took me the most time to beat by far, because the same thing never happens twice in that one.
@@GustoFormula I'm personally more frustrated than my lack of skill than the AI's whims in a game like this. Because one takes endless refining, the other can fuck up the last minute.
Also tricks like killing other pilots are part of skill, I'd argue, and it's detrimental even in chapters that aren't Michael Chain's.
This is so impressive. F-Zero GX is so incredibly difficult.
I remember watching Yoshifan run this game last year and thinking it was fucking nuts, but then CGN starts skipping shit and shift boosting like crazy

I love F-Zero GX, have played it for years. I've only completed like 3 missions on Very Hard, and 7 and 5 were not among them. I still consider this game's story mode the hardest game I've ever played, and it's mainly because of how hard the CPUs in story mode cheat. Watching this was incredible.
Greatest run of the event IMO, had to watch it again after I first saw it just to get my head around what happened

I just recently got fzero gx for the first time on dolphin and im not a big racing or even nintendo guy, but this is without a doubt the best racing game ive ever played and after beating the first cup on all difficulties i watched this and i gotta say, this dude is fucking crazy with the mechanics and reaction time
i love how he starts saying "i need to go fast" then stops and says "i WANT to go fast instead" like he doesnt need to he just wants to makes it even more badass

that was incredible, so many risks, very entertaining and skilled runner.
It's funny seeing one of the commentators from the Halo 2 run in the back seeing F-Zero GX being ran. It's cool seeing someone from one game I like to see being speedran watching another.

There is a point when you learn some speed techniques and you just can't play "normally" again.
Yeah that definitely happens. There are parts of certain tracks where's extremely easy to shift boost, such as start of Red Canyon and start of the track in chapter 9.
You should always go for them since they're at the start of the lap, if you're mad, do them laps 2 and especially 3.
At least momentum throttle is an extremely easy trick to pick up and will improve your play by just boosting as normal.
I remember watching this when the run dropped on youtube. 10 years later and still hype.
Every runner needs a Naeglaria on the couch. Entertainer while the runner does their thing. Great dynamic duo between the two of them. Sick run to watch.
