      @GiRayne Role-Playing is not defined by the aspect of creating and getting into your own original character, getting into and Role-Playing an existing and pre-defined character made by someone else is just as much Role-playing as a full freedom sandbox.
      Because that part, trying to embody the character your playing, trying to make decisions based on what you know their personality and motivations are... that's the Role-Play.
      Creating your own character and deciding all those things, that's just char-gen.

    • @Izithel
      @Izithel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @GiRayne At that point it's mostly just preference.
      Video games as a medium are limited, and without a DM/GM that can adapt to your character decision on the fly game developers have limited options on what they can anticipate and prepare for.
      Games like ES allow for a lot of freedom, but the amount of feedback the world and story can give to your choices is limited because the developers can only foresee so much, like you can marry who you want in Skyrim but every NPC gets the same generic dialogue.
      Even with mods most of the role-play is an idea in your head, not something that actually happens in or is reflected by the game world because it is incapable of doing it.
      I like the more free form games like ES, but most role-play will always feel stilted, because the world can never really reciprocate to you as anything more than Vaguely Generic Adventurer Person.
      Even games like PoE, or older games like BG1&2, PS:T, etc, generally restrict your freedom in how you play your character, choices you can make, because they have a story they want to happen.

    I said it few times when Cyberpunk was coming out, and I will repeat this here too. Crunch in poland is not the same thing as in US for example, you get paid for all overtime hours, double if you work in weekend, and by law you need 11 hours of rest between each shift, and you can't work for more than 48 hours a week, so in standard 8 hours a day work, you can work at best 2 overtime hours a day.
    And they get paid in hundreths of onioncoins (known more widely as Polish Złoty) for these overtime hours. I'd LOVE to have a crunch like that!

    • @TheYamiks

      It's more than just being compensated financially from the crunch.. you do realize that!?

    • @Furebel
      @Furebel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TheYamiks yes. I work as a CG generalist (not in CDPR tho) and we experience crunches ourselves. I know the stress that comes from it, but it's my choice to stay longer (yes, by law you can simply not agree on overtime hours) to get properly compensated for that work. And crunch is not the only thing that can be stressful, almost all jobs are stresful. I'd rather work in CG and bear the stress of crunch now and than than work in Amazon where they will shit on me every day for no reason.

      Tell me.. if your boss says : it would be nice to crunch next months... and you refuse. What happens to your job? You get tossed aside if not fired outright. You do know how real world works right!?
      Point is : in gaming industry people dismiss many bad things ether because it's new or "that's how others do it" or some other inane reason. We should talk about it and we should advocate for workers rights and wellfare , esp when companies employing these people make money hand over fist and can afford better!

    This game to me is about experiencing the life of Geralt in this fantasy world. It's the game version of reading the books. I personally thought it was great. As long as the game is I was sad to reach an end and not know more. If you're the kind of person who yearns to know what it's like to live in a different time as a different person you'll love Witcher 3 and the stories it has to share and experience.
    If you're looking for deep engaging combat and don't care about talky talky... Best to move on.

    A review nicely done Yamiks. Personally, I prefer first to 3rd person but I found this game enjoyable because the story drove it. Having a 43" screen 18" from my face helped the immersion quite a bit and when I've had my fill of GTA & 7D2D, I may go through this one again. I might take it slower, I might make different choices, but I can't see the enjoyment of the story being any less.

    I am the kind of player who usually does not give a damn about story in videogames, and curses at the mere sight of unskippable cutscenes. But Witcher 3, along with ME trilogy, are examples of story done right, and the dialogue breaks in W3 add a lot to the game.
    But, to satisfy the gamer in you, I suggest you:
    -mod the hell out of the game, as it has one of the biggest modding communities, second only to Skyrim probably
    -absolutely get the "no level requirement" mod, as level requirements are really stupid in W3
    -during the prologue go make the snake swords, and get the temerian armor. Also, if you find some random lvl12/13 sword you can be a bit OP for the prologue
    -after the prologue go make yourself a mastercrafted set. Doing that (with said no lvl req mod) is one of the most enjoyable things in videogames, as it is quite the endeavor, and it is greatly rewarding. You should get the griffin set, such that you use more signs. Spam quen for heals and protection such that you do not need to roll as if you were playing DS, and spam igni. Because it is fun.
    Remember there are a lot of materials and money to be looted if Skellige. For that set.
    Go do that and make a second review.
    Edit: I just remembered that along with that roll you are spamming, there is also a dodge. Bind that to Alt (I suppose dodge is on Space) and go spam that instead.

    Same first impression also came from many shooter game players I know. They're so used to fast paced actions. They said that it's "too long", "boring", etc.
    For me, who's slow at shooter games, I enjoy the lengthy nature of The Witcher 3. I like to dedicate summer and winter holidays to play the witcher 3. It's like binge watching TV series.

      Do you get why your statement doesn’t work? It is the experience of the narrative and the emotions it brings, it is an interactive well crafted story. If that is not for you then it is not for you.
      And yeah main idea* of the plot is simple, but the world, story’s, theme and the characters around it are highly complex and make it amazing. The story, dialogue and voice acting is objectively good and been analysed and explained by thousands of article writers and TH-camrs. I could link you 2 hour analyses of the dialogue options, and different endings of even small side quests.There is a reason why the game has been marked as one of the best narrative based RPG ever made, that doesn’t mean your opinion is bad, but it also does not mean it is an objective truth

    I find myself not being particularly impressed by Witcher, probably because they have so much more time compared to other games to accomplish the story element. I still consider it good just lacking the greatness that other games with good story's like halo, half life, soma, outer wilds, to the moon, chrono trigger, and probably a few more that slip my mind atm. To the moon in particular is only 4ish hours long and I consider it probably the best of all the games I mentioned.

    Cinematics shouldnt be there because they are dividing the players perception of gameplay dynamics. We hate either the fights that are taking us out of the story into boring gameplay, or we hate the boring story which we forced to follow instead of having some action fun. And since the story of the best game is genuinely a shit in comparison to mediocre book, we tend to value gameplay higher than the story. Just look at those dialogs built around a few words in short sentences... Or the plot where Heralt lost his memory just to introduce him to a new audience. And make him being able to fuck everyone. It is one the most cheap and retarded ways, intellectually speaking, which we may find in too many media entertainment stories.
