I just turned 70 this last March. I was married to a magnificent woman for 37 years and she was not only my wife but over the years she became my best friend. I recently lost her and I held her hand as she died. I didn’t know what direction to turn. My wife and I watched a lot of Josh’s videos and We really enjoyed them. I liked them so much I decided to take up the guitar. I know that I’m just learning but I am absolutely horrible and watching his videos either encourages me to try harder or depresses the hell out of me and discourages me with the idea that I’ll never be half as good as he is. I’ve always enjoyed his singing but…… This song absolutely tugs at my heart strings! I know that “The love of my life/my best friend“ my beloved wife of 37 years would absolutely love to hear “Who Knows Where the Time Goes.“🌹🌹💕❤️💞
Frank Carrio frank I too am 70 and boy your post just nailed it as you spoke so lovingly about the loss of your best friend. I’m sure she’s cheering your guitar playing, keep going you can do it, after all like me your only a young man...I wish 😀
Your post here hit me straight in the heart. I hope you´re mending well, and that the guitar gives you new goals. This is a fair tune to learn after mastering open/barré-chords and some strumming techniques. You don´t have to include the harder parts at first, just incorporate them when you master them. I started playing 6 years ago, when I was 26. I tell people that it´s literally NEVER too late to start playing an instrument. My father just bought a drumkit (he is 70 as well). Trust me, it´s about consistency (play every day if you can, even 15 minutes is enough), wanting to learn new tunes and enjoying your new skill on a creative level. If you want a few tips on where to go if you are stuck just let me know :) Wish you the very best. Greetings from Norway
Lovely post Frank, thank you. You have a few years on me, but I am still with my wife of 37 years and your post along with this song gave me a rich solace with a sprinkling of sweet sorrow, and there is where the heart follows.
Josh chooses to record a cover of a song written more than 50 years ago and crushes it. Tomorrow he posts an original tune written two months ago. Next week he puts up a classical guitar piece. Next month he and Carson do a cover of a Waylon Jennings tune. A couple of weeks later he joins Reina and Toni on a Reina original. Such diversity, honesty, purity and overall superior audio and video quality - it never ceases to amaze me but at the same time it is what we have come to expect from this gifted young man and his circle of admirably talented friends and acquaintances. Thank you, Josh. Thank you.
I've never heard your voice be so beautifully pensive, soulful, and emotive. Of course I've always considered you to be a very good singer, but this is special. Thank you, from an older guy who often wonders where the time goes.
An absolutely beautiful rendition of this Sandy Denny song. Pure. I am English and was enchanted by the original all those years ago sat at the feet of Fairport Convention as they literally re-invented folk songs that dated back aeons and made them relevant to the youth of that time. This young man, against all odds of time tide and attitudinal odds, has brought this song into the 21st Century. Thank you.
I can't make it through this song without crying. Life has gone by so fast. I have been married 34 years. My husband wants this played when he passes on. So it's hard to even think of my life with out my love.Josh you do this song just beautiful . Yes the tears are pouring.
If you're looking for an opportunity to cry and get in touch with your deepest emotions, this is the video to watch. I just lost my mom a few weeks ago and it's only art like this that makes the whole mystery of life and death feel that one's not alone in experiencing love and loss. Thanks, Josh.
Josh, since I’ve known you forever, I’ve always known that your voice is beyond incredible, but I wasn’t sure if you would ever know it. It seems that finally you do too & now the whole world knows too. I’m so proud of all you’ve accomplished in the last few years and that it seems that finally you are getting the recognition you deserve. So much passion in your singing & playing in this song. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
Josh - I lost my son to a drug overdose back in October of ‘14 - I can’t begin to tell you how much it still hurts. Yet, with this song and the way you’ve presented it, it’s a bandage on my soul. Thank You. (Kevin - I miss you and I’ll see you again)
Jon Jaeden thank you for your reply. There’s a million words I’d try to use and it never adds up. To be separated. Yet when I hear this song and this rendition, I can feel his soul close at hand. Time will come - but until then..I must wait. I will pray that your son is there for you when the time comes. Take care.
Hi Josh The first band I saw live was Fairport Convention - at the Melbourne Town Hall (in Aus). That was over 50 years ago. What a beautiful rendition you have given. I love the way you inherit the essence of any song you cover. Great video production as well. Thankyou for all the beautiful emotions. This may be my favourite - until the next one.
Wow what a Huge song to tackle! And you totally smashed it. It’s obvious you really did your homework and put your heart into this one. Sandy and Simone are smiling somewhere...
It is good to see a younger player discover this powerful song, for me the original Sandy Denny version with Richard Thompson playing that 'obligato' electric guitar, is the best one.
Nothing will ever top the transcendent Fairport Convention original with Sandy Denny aided by the gorgeous obligato electric guitar of Richard Thompson. But this was great. Kudos.
Played the Judy Collins cover of this at my mother's funeral. Absolutely love both the Nina Simone and Sandy Denny versions. I cannot express how much I appreciate that you even know this song :)
In 1975 I saw Fairport convention with Sandy Denny in my home town. This song was on their playlist then. This song is still my favorite ..thanks Josh for your excellent version!
I had the great good fortune to see Sandy Denny in a small "coffeehouse" under the student union building at my small New Jersey college in 1973. She was opening for Randy Newman! Wonderful show...five years later she was gone. RIP Alexandra.
For some reason, I have never commented on this one, and I am now rectifying that omission - in fact I didn't even mark it as a like - I knew Sandy way back then - I'm sure she's looking down now and admiring your rendition of her amazing composition.
Josh, this was a magnificent treatment of a standard that has been performed by many wonderful artists. Yours's is right up there with the best. You bring a sensitivity and nuance that is rare for a young person. Ordinarily, I would say to go and live a little longer and then come sing it. But you nailed it. There is enough pathos, empathy, and heart in this to touch the heart of someone my age who is asking the central question of the song. Stay on this path. It will take you deep and raise you high. I am amazed and so grateful to have received this gift of hearing you sing one of my favorites.
Wonderful. Josh is very special. Can't think of anyone I'd rather listen to but Josh and his friends here on youtube. They remind me just what music really is.
Amazing Joshua! You made me stare out of my window for 20 min.. is there somtething you can't do? Stil feel so lucky having seen you play live in Prague. Thanks again for an amazing evening!
Very good choice, voice and sound... You made steps singing (your tremolo is outstanding now) and the solo seems to simone's trills on piano, but on a cordoba guitar... great ! versions of fairport convention are incredible but yours sounds particular too... bravo et merci Josh, again again and again
Nice work! I'm old. Old enough to remember when I first heard Sandy sing this song. It still works. Glad to see another generation is still performing this work - and doing a great job. Thanks!
Sandy Denny,s mournful song was going to be played at my passing , however it will be this version I will want. I can think of no better words of praise. Stunning
I'm so devoted to Sandy Denny's version that even the divine Nina disappointed me a little (just a little!) in comparison. But this is truly wonderful in every respect.
Nina Simone's album came out the year I got married. Then and now this song resonates in a deeply emotional flow with me. Josh, your cover is the best I have heard in nearly 50 years. I hope to sing it at my Sunday afternoon jam session. Thanks for resurrecting it.
In this time of COVID-19, I am here in the largest city in Canada, Toronto, and I am self-isolating on Wed Apr 15, 2020, at 04:24 AM ET. I just happened to come across Josh. This is wonderful! 🇨🇦 OMG, he sings in Spanish! Quelle talent !
My God.....what a talent. Beautiful voice, perfect timing, and convincing soul...I really mean it. Just discovered you today, and have listened to this song over and over. What a gift in every way....thanks Josh.
Rode across to a place called California __ in my VW van -- with an 8 trk of Sandy singing this reverberating -- to all on board to "Go West Young Man "
Listening to this for the first time on a rainy Wednesday summer night (when it feels more like winter), gazing to the rain drenched streets, where a streetlight illuminates my window, with noise cancelling headphones on is really beautiful.
Josh, this song isway older than you. Judy Collins, I heard that song for the first time. It si beautiful song, for me, a Seaman, and hace seen all them birds at the beach, and have seen birds way deep into the midle of all oceans. You brought some memories from way back un my love. Thank you.......⚓
I don’t have words, Josh. I’ve come back to this video so many times. You have perfected your vocal style as well as being the great guitarist you’ve always been. Can’t wait for what else you’ll do!
Josh, I really admire you for taking this on. I've been trying for close to 10 years to work out a cover of this song and I always end up throwing in the towel because the Sandy Denny version with Fairport Convention is just one of the most devastatingly emotional vocal performances in modern music. But you really made it your own and it works beautifully. Congratulations!
Thank you for this. I posted this on my Facebook page as a tribute to my nephew who recently passed away...the time went by fast. ....never enough time.
I've been a fan for about a year now. You and your friends are amazing. I had lost hope that real music would survive the onslaught of auto-tuned pap that has became the norm in our musical society. But you youngsters are keeping music alive with your talent and you versatility. This particular song has a very Kenny Rankin vibe about it. Received the notification while on a 7-hour drive. Could you check with me the next time you upload and make sure I’ll be able to listen to it immediately? That would be great.
I have posted my appreciation of Josh’s rendition before. I am again stunned by the beauty of this gifted song and I am calmed in approaching what today might bring. Thanks Josh you are a wonderful wonderful musician and singer. I can only imagine the work and dedication you put in to create this ‘perfection’. Bravo bravo encore bravo.
how can a song make me feel so happy, sad, and free at the same time. the words made me recall so many of my life regrets and misfortunes, but your sweet voice and strings soothed me into acceptance. somehow i feel more at peace with them. thank you
This is one of my favorite all time songs, and I couldn't have ever imagined a cover being more beautiful than the first time I experienced it. You truly sing with all the gentleness of you and I love it.
There was something perfect about the way your voice, the guitar, the lyrics, and the tempo fit together. I've never heard the song before but I was mesmerized.
Great job Josh! This is the first time I've heard a male voice do this song and you do it justice. One of the trickiest things about this song is that singers tend to want to speed it up a bit but you did it right.
Best male vocal version of this classic 1968 song. Thank you Josh! I bought the Judy Collins version in 1968 when I was 14. I've always loved this song!!!

Keep playing mate. Every strum you get a little bit better. I hope you get as much out of the guitar as I do.
Frank Carrio frank I too am 70 and boy your post just nailed it as you spoke so lovingly about the loss of your best friend. I’m sure she’s cheering your guitar playing, keep going you can do it, after all like me your only a young man...I wish 😀

I agree
Took the words right out of my mouth. We never know what Josh is gonna post next but we know without a doubt it will be superb and masterful.
YES!!! Simply YES!!!
Yes, fantastic as always!
Josh is so much more than another hot shot guitar player. he`s truly in a league of his own

Always an amazing guitarist, now an amazing singer. What a gift this young man is!
Beverly White Well said.
This young man never ceases to amaze me with his musical talent and passion! Josh, beautifully performed!
This is so good! Your voice reminds me of 1964-65 Paul Simon.
Josh - I lost my son to a drug overdose back in October of ‘14 - I can’t begin to tell you how much it still hurts. Yet, with this song and the way you’ve presented it, it’s a bandage on my soul.

So glad to see this notification! One of my all time favourite songs. You nailed it.
Well Done! I'm an old Hippy and I've been following you for a couple of years. Your talents have grown tremendously. Keep up the good work.
Tim Irvin If you want to start the Josh Turner Old Hippy Fan Club, I’m in.
Me too.
I love old Hippies!!
A beautiful song sung beautifully. Please always leave this up there, Josh, for those of us who need it played at our memorials...
In 1975 I saw Fairport convention with Sandy Denny in my home town. This song was on their playlist then.
This song is still my favorite ..thanks Josh for your excellent version!
Wow. Devistatingly beautiful. Made my heart ache, at least when your heart aches it reminds you that you have a heart.
Just sensational! We are so lucky ! Thank you Josh!!!
I had the great good fortune to see Sandy Denny in a small "coffeehouse" under the student union building at my small New Jersey college in 1973. She was opening for Randy Newman! Wonderful show...five years later she was gone. RIP Alexandra.
Another masterpiece!
I've been rewatching so many of your songs the past few weeks after finding your channel like 2 years. Never stop making music!
My first comment here for a Josh Turner song, I love this song, I love Sandy Denny and this performance is legendary and inspiring!
For some reason, I have never commented on this one, and I am now rectifying that omission - in fact I didn't even mark it as a like - I knew Sandy way back then - I'm sure she's looking down now and admiring your rendition of her amazing composition.
Josh, this is SUPERB, your voice is pure and on pitch, ohh and I love that guitar.. Great Job.
Very nice. I like the Sandy Denny version when she was with Fairport Convention. I love Richard Thompson's guitar playing on the recording.
Josh, this was a magnificent treatment of a standard that has been performed by many wonderful artists. Yours's is right up there with the best. Exquisite, gorgeous, perfect. Several commenters hear Paul Simon in this performance, but am I the only one who hears Kenny Rankin?
Damn.i wasnt expecting him to be this good
Oh- I Love it soo much. Can hear it a different times. This ist one of the great emotional songs you ever offered me. Thank you so much! ❤
Great recording. Especially I love the "open chord" sequence. One guitar, one mic, one voice, one vision. Bam.
Josh, I know others have mentioned this, but your voice on this song really is beautiful man. Keep it up.
Just what I needed on a stressful morning. Thanks Josh!
Nice work! I'm old. Old enough to remember when I first heard Sandy sing this song. It still works. Glad to see another generation is still performing this work - and doing a great job. Thanks!

Your taste in music is impeccable mate
My God.....what a talent.
Beautiful voice, perfect timing, and convincing soul...I really mean it.
Just discovered you today, and have listened to this song over and over.
What a gift in every way....thanks Josh.
Ah, I love this song! I find it super chilled out and comforting ☺️
Beautiful... Simply perfect, Josh. A fine example of how ‘less is more’. Delicate guitar work and vocals. I enjoyed too the clever blend of video.
Beautiful song! In Heaven, there is no such thing as "Time"....no place to be, because you are already there!
Rode across to a place called California __ in my VW van -- with an 8 trk of Sandy singing this reverberating -- to all on board to "Go West Young Man "

Thank you. My end of life song.
I had totally forgotten all about this song. Thank you so much Josh for a little trip in the Wayback machine.
Mr Peabody & Sherman said hi.
You have a beautiful voice and an amazing talent. Keep going on the path your going please. Good luck and GOD bless
two of my favourite [female] singers, and such a lovely song. You do a fantastic rendition. ❤
That was lovely. Thank you. Great cover of a great song.
So emotional and thought provoking. Stunningly performed and must be one of your best yet. Thank you.

AWESOME!!!BEAUTIFUL SONG,BEAUTIFULLY SUNG. SANDY DENNY DESERVES TO BE .BEST KNOWN
THANK YOU JOSH.🕊🌻👏👏👏🌻🕊
I think Sandy Denny would have enjoyed Josh’s version of this hauntingly beautiful song.

Please, please I can't leave to hear. It is so good!. Thanks.
And thanks to you for introducing this song to us........Another GEM!
I'm having a Josh Turner evening. Crying quite a bit. Enjoying a lot.
I first heard the Judy Collins version at a friends memorial years after it was released, and thought it would never be outdone-- until now. This recording, with the tenor, reverb and sparse arrangement is the best ever, hands down. It's haunting and stays with you long after the song is done.
Thanks for treating this music like it deserves to be.
so good, especially one so young knowing this amazing song! Thank you.
joshie turner is the BEST EVER!! I love him and his music.
OK, so now I know what's going to be playing as I bid this world my last goodbye...Beautiful, just simply beautiful.
Such an amazing cover of this beautiful song. I was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer in May, and I know my time is short. I want to have this played at my service.
Truly the sort of song that wld never be written today.
Yesterday discovered you, instantly in love. Thanks Josh

That is one of my all time favorite songs....

Do you know what's better than one Joshua Lee Turner? TWO Joshua Lee Turners.
Absolutely beautiful
Best male vocal version of this classic 1968 song. Thank you Josh! I bought the Judy Collins version in 1968 when I was 14. I've always loved this song!!!
Excellent. Great song. Beautiful voice, man.
How beautiful.
That is absolutely wonderful.
So beautiful. Found myself in tears.
