There are actually two versions of this song. This is the acoustic version and the other one has electric guitars and bass kick in after the first chorus.
It was trimmed down a bit for the music video. The version on the album is about a minute longer, more space before the vocals enter at the beginning and more space going from each chorus to the next verse.
I have seen them in concert many times. I’m seeing them in April also. They just dropped 2 new videos Dead ☠️ Don’t Die & A symptom of being human”. One is hard rock & the other is soft rock. And a older one is The Sound of Madness. Their concerts you can take the whole family to cause they have families to. I hope this will help you out in finding out more about Shinedown.
Shinedown is amazing live great guys met them multiple times. I think Brent Smith is one of the best vocalist out there now. He can sing anything. Also has acoustic project called Smith and Myers lead singer and guitarist who is in the band now.
I love the Skynyrd version and I’m not even a Skynyrd fan, but you gotta love the vocals on this one. Instrumentally, I prefer the original, but the vocals are impressive in this cover.
Its true, no one can sing Lynard Skynard like LS. However, this LS song is sung by Shinedown's amazing vocalist (back in his prime) and its far superior IMO. Simple Man and Fly from the Inside are 2 of my favorite Acoustic songs of 2000s. I think the simpler instrumentals allows for the emotion of the voice to cut through!
He still sings it like this but uses his powerful vocals for acoustic project Smith and Myers he can still sing like he did. He does change his voice but he still can sing like this 20 years later.
They no longer play this in concert. At the time this was recorded Shinedown guitarist Jasin Todd was married to Melody Van Zant, the daughter of Ronnie Van Zant. So it was all in the family. After Jasin left the band they dropped it from their sets out of respect.
th-cam.com/video/5wdQ_sBHGZY/w-d-xo.html Here is the 2013 interview with the band talking about it,. I dont know, maybe they did start playing it again at some point. But at the time they did stop. In Brents own words it would be disrespectful to keep playing it after Jasin left the band.
@@kevenbridges9433 They must have changed their mind because here's a video from last year of them performing the song just for proof. th-cam.com/video/JghHUAI96Ug/w-d-xo.html
Love me some Zack Myers ( one of my favorite guitarists), and bret Smith what more could you want, I have to say I do love the plugged in version better but still go wrong either either
I think I've listened to this cover more than the original. And on one hand, the cut-down version for that video annoys me (especially the vocal overlap going into the last verse), but on the other it works well enough for a reaction and review.
Simple Man is already a long-established and iconic song so it’s hard to give an objective score on the cover, other than to critique this specific take on the original. That said, I see this one as a nearly flawless and nicely -stripped down rendition of a bonafide classic. The vocals are truly special, and I’m not even a Shinedown fan. I remember when this cover dropped in the mid-2000’s and it’s one of my (many) favorite covers. My score is a 9.1 so I’m interested to see your score (haven’t watched the review part yet!
the dame that be lookin at herself in the piece of broken mirror be ronnie van zant's youngest daughter melody van zant-todd and the lil girl holdin the pic of ronnie be his 3 yr old grandaughter aria van zant-todd now 14 and melody be married to the guitar player in the black hat jasin todd l actually like shinedown's version better than the original though l do has both brent smith's voice be epic
One of the best voices in modern rock!

I’m SO glad you loved this version! They are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Brent is THE MAN!
My favorite Skynyrd song. They gave it respect and care. Well done Brent and the fboys.
I have seen both versions live and they are both great. They did this respectfully with permission and care to the original.
SHINEDOWN like LYNARD SKYNARD is from Jacksonville Florida.
Brent is a powerhouse vocalist. This cover showcases that \m/
Such a great cover! 💯🔥
Shinedown is my favorite band. They do simple man at every concert and he could still belt it after 20 years.💯🔥🔥
Brent Smiths' vocal is superb. You can definitely hear the Motown influence in his voice.
Never heard this band before, my god this guy can sing what a voice

Heard Brent say in an interview it only took him 3 takes to do this song.
Glad you enjoyed it, Dave! Thanks for the reaction.
Love Shinedown - heard this in concert last year and it was awesome ❤️🔥
They play it acoustic in concert as well.
Totally respect your entire take on this song. After hearing it too many times to count, I STILL get goosebumps.
I love the Skynyrd version and I’m not even a Skynyrd fan, but you gotta love the vocals on this one.

This is one of the best covers. I read on another reaction that the guitarist from Shinedown is married to one of the Van Zants daughter
They cut this one down for the video, but this version the long version, you can find the audio of it, and I think it’s almost 6 minutes
Seen this Band twice in st louis at pointfest. They put on one of the best live shows ive been too.

Seriously that is an amazing lil tidbit
This is false. I saw Shinedown multiple times in the last decade and they played this song with Zach Myers on guitar.

They’re playing it live now.. fun fact the little girl in the video is Ronnie Van Zaby’s granddaughter
I'm not a big fan of this band, but the singer has a fantastic voice. Great version of this classic song. Great reaction, as always!
Love me some Zack Myers ( one of my favorite guitarists), and bret Smith what more could you want, I have to say I do love the plugged in version better but still go wrong either either
Haven't even heard your reaction yet, and also, I need that fucking shirt. I'm excited!

You should see Shinedown do simple man live and they play the song the same way just acoustic guitar and vocals

Well, I was a little more generous with my score but we were still fairly close!
The Tony edit had me 🤣
Nothing like skynard but well done...ps funny this comes out yesterday and hear last original member of skynard passed
Yeah this is even sped up. Their actual cover is roughly at the same pace as the original
