Shinedown is from Jacksonville FL. The same home town as Lynyrd Skynyrd. Jasin Todd, who was the original guitarist for Shinedow is married to Melody Van Zant. Ronnie Van Zant's daughter. Ronnie was the singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd. He died in the plane crash. The young girl is Jasin & Melody's daughter That's the picture of her grandfather (Ronnie) that she is holding. The woman in the mirror is Melody. This version is about family Shinedown originally played this in Judy Van Zant's club The Freebird Live. Judy is the widow of Ronnie The cowboy hat that is seen in the video belongs to Ronnie. He used to wear it on stage
I'm 70 years old. Have seen Lynyrd Skynyrd 4 times in concert. Have seen Shinedown in concert. I have to say I like Shinedown's version better. You just can't beat Brent's voice!!
Shinedown is in the Lynyrd Skynyrd family, the guitarist, Jason Todd is Ronnie Van Zant son-in-law the little girl in the video is Ronnie‘s granddaughter. Brent stayed in there guest house for a year before their first album came out in 03. He use to sing it for Judy in at The Freebird Cafe she loved to hear him sing it. this is on Leave a Whisper the first album. Brent told Judy Van Zandt he would pay her back and he gave her the royalties for this song. In 2022 Lynyrd Skynyrd 50th anniversary Brent was invited to come on and sing simple man with Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Ryman. There is a video on TH-cam. Lynyrd Skynyrd told Shinedown they could sing this song anytime they wanted and it has become a fan favorite. They don’t do very many covers. In fact, I only know of two or three that they have done. There is a lot more to the story on how this cane about. Jason Todd asked Brent to sing it on the radio & it exploded from there. 💯🔥🔥
The guitarist from shine down is married to Ronnie Van Zant's daughter, and the the little girl holding Ronnie's picture in the video is Ronnie's granddaughter. So their video is also 3 generations
This is a powerful rendition of an iconic song Brent kills the vocals. I think I like this version better than the original and I love the original. Thanks ladies this was a great reaction.
What a beautiful version of this classic song by Shinedown. Love the power & control in his voice. I have always loved this song by Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1973 & the beautiful message it conveyed of a mother giving advice to her son.
Check out Smith & Myers. It’s the singer and guitar player of Shinedown doing covers, like unchained melody, sittin on the dock of the bay, and many more
Your mom said she didnt know the song in the beginning of the video. I told my self "OH SHE KNOWS THIS SONG!" and then to see that awesome reaction when the lyrics first hit was just great! I was like SEE!!!!
The reasons for Shinedown doing this song are way more personal than just a cover to them. Shinedown and Skynyrd are both from Jacksonville, Florida and Shinedown's original guitarist, was Jasin Todd, and he was married to Melody Van Zant, the late, great Ronnie Van Zant's (the original singer with Skynyrd) daughter. Also, Shinedown got their first break playing regularly at a local Jacksonville venue called Freebird Live. That venue was owned by Judy Van Zant, Ronnie's widow. The guys started doing this song as a tribute to Ronnie and a thank you to Judy. Incidentally, in this video there is a bit with a little girl holding a picture of a man. The picture is of Ronnie and the little girl is his granddaughter.
This is a good cover. As a comparison, listen to the original by Lynyrd Skynyrd sometime. The only other song that I know of that Shinedown did a cover of, besides this song, is Tie Your Mother Down by Queen. Always be honest if you know it or not. You will come upon songs that are so popular that you are likely know it. I could not do a channel like this for rock or metal since I know over 6000 songs in that genre.
I think y'all did a great job for your reaction video for the shinedown cover of simple man, keep up the good work. Also another song you might want to do a video for is another song by shinedown it is called colt 45. Also lulu being the youngest member of your channel offered great incite for such an iconic song.
Dont beat yourselfs up lots of us have tunes moving in the back of our heads ive been caught out loads until you hear into a song a bit the other thing is songs have had sooo many covers its hard to keep tabs on who's done the original . Your the best reaction channel imo because there is a honesty in your reactions noce work ladies❤
I couldn’t agree more, as a musician playing in a cover band in the late 1970s we did Freebird twice a night for eight months. Freebird is a good song, but quite frankly, I’m over it. I love Simple Man, It’s an extremely heartfelt ballad.
They do alot of covers & original songs acoustic under Smith and Myers which is Brent and Zach. Unchained Melody is amazing. The did as Shinedown Tie your mother down for Queen Tribute album. U2 One and Happy Christmas war is over & Caroll King cover Feel the Earth Move. All great covers!!
I love you ladies. But I have to be honest. You really talk. A lot. There are times when I forget what I was watching lol. Until next time stay well and popping for fresh.

I’ve always said Brent Smith is one of the best rock vocalists in the world
It's like the song was written by LS for Shinedown.

First time hearing Shinedown. Dude has an excellent voice, doing Ronnie Van Zant some justice. Donna, you have nice straight hair

The original version of this was done by Lynerd Skinerd. They really turned it around and made it their own. Great video!!😊

I don't care what anyone says, "Simple Man" will always be Skynyrd's best song. Not "Freebird", not "Tuesday's Gone".
The melody, the lyrics and the message make this beautiful ballad one of the most memorable songs ever written.
I couldn’t agree more, as a musician playing in a cover band in the late 1970s we did Freebird twice a night for eight months. Freebird is a good song, but quite frankly, I’m over it. I love Simple Man, It’s an extremely heartfelt ballad.
100% correct sir
100%.
I disagree... "Simple Man" is NOT Skynyrd's best song... Skynyrd's best song is actually this Shinedown COVER of their song "Simple Man"....
Shinedown is top notch. This was a fun one. From MN, I hope you accept my "Thank y'all"!
This is my favorite cover of all time. This song is just beautiful and even better than the original

Lenard skynard, the little girl is Ronnie van zants granddaughter the lead singer of Lenard skynard
I wish people would react to the acoustic version from the deluxe version of Leave a Whisper. This version doesn’t show Brent’s pipes
This is a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd"s song.
