This version of "Simple Man" has a lot more behind it than a simple cover. In case people don't know, the original is by Lynyrd Skynyrd, with Ronnie Van Zant before his death in a plane crash in 1977. Shinedown and Skynyrd are both from Jacksonville, Florida. Shinedown's original guitarist, Jasin Todd is married to Melody Van Zant, Ronnie's daughter and the band used to play at a venue in Jacksonville called Freebird Live, which was owned by Melody and Judy Van Zant, Judy is Melody's mother and Ronnie's widow. The band used to play this as a tribute to Ronnie and a thank you to Judy. Incidentally, in this video there is a little girl holding a picture of a man - that man is Ronnie Van Zant and that little girl is his grand-daughter. The best comment I've seen about this is - "People don't realise that Shinedown is Lynyrd Skynyrd family".

He ended up giving me tickets to their show the following night in town as their personal guest. They sound amazing live. Then a few months later the drummer came in and did the same. Got to talk with both of them for awhile. Just super down to earth dudes.
Shinedown is so underrated it's crazy. Glad to see a lot of reaction channels picking them up finally. They haven't put out a bad song in their 16 years of existence.
Brent has as amazing voice. Shinedown has so many great songs. Monsters, Breaking Inside, 45, Save Me and of course Sound of madness. Please do more Shinedown. Btw Brent is also an amazing person, humble and down too earth.
