i appreciated this video. i thought you were full of shit before when you hadn't heard this song and you kept skipping it....i liked the reaction and i liked what you said afterwards. i went from thinking this was full of shit to being my favorite reaction to the song. but what you said afterwards was what affected me the most. when something affects us so much, it's hard to put those feelings in to words or even the meaning in to words. it runs THAT deep. and if we were to sum things up in 5 minutes, the words wouldn't do anything justice. some people may think it was too much talking, i think it was just enough. it was long but justified in my opinion. also, i've listened to this song many many times and i still get tears in my eyes. i am not even a fan of metal or disturbed. i am a classic rock guy. after hearing this song for the first time, i was compelled to do some research on the singer. what a great guy. i love that guy! just the history of his life and how he turned out humble with good morals and values and caring and loving person. hard worker. determined to make it. and just the creativity that goes in to making a song like this tells a lot about a person. the patience and the time it had to have taken to make it almost perfection. this ranks up there with some of the historic classic rock songs i love. if we are going to critique it and be asshole about it, yea, i give it a 9.7 or close to it too....but this song is easily a 10 when it's just about the music and i don't give 10's but this is a 10. i am so happy for this dude because as a metal singer he's not going to get all the recognition he actually deserves but this song put him on the map and i don't thinka cover has ever been done better when there are only a select few covers just as good or better than the original. anyway, i really appreciated your reaction video here. and i laughed so hard when i heard the pigs man. this is the first time on your channel and that shit was funny! good job with everything and wish ya continued success with this channel! as far as listening to this song for the first time in years, well it's always better late than never.
FEELIN YOU Aaron!!! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video. Like you said, a lot of people may think it's too long and I talk roo much...but I know it was all worth it. Thank you for giving me chance, even though you thought I wasn't being honest at first you still gave me a chance to prove it and I really appreciate that. A lot of people wouldn't, so thank you for giving me the opportunity to entertain you.
Made a name for himself on this song?? No you are wrong he made a name for himself when the 1st album hit the radio multiple years ago. Disturbed has been rock God's for years. This song is a step up for the band but they are already way up there.
most people never even heard of disturbed before this song was playing all over the internet and the world. you sound like your a fan boy who just has stars in his eyes. hell, most people don't even like metal music and that's another thing that attracted people to this song not to mention the lyrics which weren't even written by disturbed. they may be good but not THAT good. show me some lyrics they wrote that were that good or better. albums come and go but a great songs forever lasts in the hearts of people. and that's what this song did. you can uploay disturbed all you want and downplay the fact that this song put them on the map....doesn't make it true...haha
@@anwiii55 Fan boy lol I am not a boy I am a 51 year old man who has listened to and seen concerts with some of the greatest musicians the world has to offer. From Pink Floyd to Nine Inch Nails for ten bucks at a bar in the early 90's. Disturbed has been around for years and the concerts they put on were packed with people before they did Simon and Garfunkel's song. I saw them with Bush, Stone temple pilots, Godsmack, disturbed Alice in Chins ooh and The Cult. Now the song has brought in a new set of people I will give you that but as far as putting them on the map they were already on the map. Just because you just heard of them does not mean they were not out there selling out concerts already.
I'm a 57 year old man and I'm glad I am not the only person who teared up with overwhelming emotion when I first saw this video. You could have edited this video but I'm glad you left the emotions in it. Thank you.
According to Ultimate Classic Rock, when Disturbed performed the cover on Conan. Simon sent Draiman an e-mail praising the cover. “Really powerful performance on Conan the other day,” Simon wrote. “First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice, Thanks.” Draiman responded. “Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words,” he wrote. “We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/us and we are eternally grateful.”
TY, someone actually listened to David's interview. Never said they own it.. But in my opinion they do. Simon shared it on his social media which he had never done. So, about as high a compliment as you'll get.
I'm a 68 year old woman. I have an eclectic background in music. Every time I hear David sing this song I am covered in goosebumps. EVERY TIME. It's been decades since my heart was so touched. Thank you David and Disturbed❤
Today, I have watched 7 professional voice coaches, composers and such, their reaction is well deserving of this artist. Tear's, goose bump, etc because this is a very impactful delivery. I am a 70 year old Great Grandmother and I do not hand out compliments easily unless well deserved
I am actively searching for reactions to this. I get to watch people brought to tears in almost every one. Truth be told I've listened to this close to 200 (no exaggeration) and I still tear up every time I hear it. Welcome to the it's OK for men to cry club!
At a Disturbed concert right before the pandemic, we were talking to a guy sitting near us with an elderly man. He introduced us to his grandpa, who was 84 years old, and who had never heard anything by the band except for this song. He wanted to come to the concert to hear it live. Turns out, a Disturbed fan was born that night. How could you not love David’s voice?
After hearing this Paul Simon said this song belongs to David Draiman now. the Simon and Garfunkel version was a plea to humanity to change its ways, this is the ANGER at humanity for not heeding the warnings originally voiced. this is just about as close to perfect as a song can be, it is not a cover it is the true successor to the original song by Simon and Garfunkel. 🤘🫀🧠 and soul 🤘
you know, you totally nailed the analysis between both, and that's why I love it so much. The song is timeless - first a plea, then anger at failure to heed. Dramond's rendition is simply more relevant to our circumstance, and not at all to detract from Simon and Garfunkel (whom I love). But being someone born in the early 80s, this one resonates with me slightly more
This Disturbed cover is pure, raw beauty. I first discovered “reaction” videos a couple of months ago when I saw this cover in a reaction by mistake. Now I look for reactions because it makes me feel like I’m sharing something so ethereally beautiful… some reactions just don’t feel right. Others, such as this, are exactly why I look for re-listening with someone. I hear the surprised appreciation and anticipation and hear myself saying “Wait! Wait til you hear what’s coming!” then “Wait! It gets even better!” and love seeing and hearing and sharing the powerful reactions with … you.
Yes exactly. The build of emotion from sadness to anxiety to anger to unadulterated rage. Surreal . Unforgettable. Needed to be sung this way at this time in history.
It's a good thing he did do this version instead of the live version. The video with the song is just such a different experience. Raw beauty is right. Very well put.
Amen! My eyes leak every time I listen and watch other’s react with the same deep emotion I feel, even after listening to it hundreds of times. The first time I ever saw/heard the song was a 9/11 tribute video of the song my friend sent me of it on 9/11 a few years back. She was angry because FB flagged it and removed it, so I kept posting it till I got booted. If you haven’t seen it, grab tissue and dig in! ❤️🤍💙
Thank you for not trying to hide or diminish the emotional impact this had on you. Like you, I grew up to the Simon and Garfunkel version and to me, the song was sacred ground; one where fools must never tread. The first time I heard this, I was in the shop. A natural workaholic, my hands just keep working through the music playing in the background, but this day something unexpected happened, I heard "hello darkness my old friend" with a piano. I stopped dead in my tracks and started to listen. At the beginning of the 3rd verse, I had to sit down. It literally took my breath away, by the end I was an emotional wreck. Glad to see other men that had that same bomb drop reaction I did. Songs like this are part of the soundtrack of our youth and to hear it redone in such a beautiful and respectful way is nothing short of miraculous. Your rant at the end really resonated with me as a musician because I ultimately ended up abandoning music after our music program got cut for a new football stadium. You put a smile on my face and brightened my day good Sir.
David, this is why we love and respect you. Honest, emotional reactions. Lots of reactors would have edited that section, but you let us see what you were experiencing in the moment. I've never listened to a Disturbed song in my life. The only reason I listened to this song is because you reacted to it. This is absolute brilliance. From the vocals, to the instrument choices, to the performance. Unbelievable. Now I need to go play it on my stereo so i can turn up the volume. David, whenever you have one of those days when you're dealing with nasty commenters or doubt what you're doing, just remember days like this. You've introduced a lot of music/artists to a lot of appreciative people that we would have never heard without you being here and doing what you do. Thank you.
I've probably heard this song a thousand times. Every time David sings that high, pure tone on "in the naked light I saw" I get goosebumps. Every time.
" 10 thousand people maybe more". Yess, that part is powerful. That tone mixed with the visual imagination of 10,000 people . Everyone's imagination goes where it goes with that but I think of Jesus Christ returning in power and glory and a mass of people just looking up and watching him in awe.
When I first heard that Disturbed had covered this song I was angry. How dare ANYONE touch Sound of Silence. THEN I heard it. I'm not even ashamed to admit I SOBBED with the beauty of this version. I am now very much a fan of Disturbed, because of this song. This is just special.
My mom still refuses to listen to it for the same reasons. Next time I visit, I'm gonna sit her down with her tablet, snap the headphones on her noggin, and tell her to shut her pie hole and listen. I'll probably get a chancla upside the head, but it'll be worth it.
My step father is very old school and he wouldn't even let me play this version for him to hear because I totally love this song and wanted to share it with him. I understand where the original came from and completely respect that..Disturbed just reintroduced it to us in a poignantly-powerful version of Simon and Garfunkel's original....Who would've thunked:)
I've heard this song now about a thousand times since I first saw it early 2022. I cry every single time. That voice is both an angel and demon. I get hit the most in the last line when he sings Sounnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd of silence. How he holds that last sound then goes instantly silent I just lose it. It's a sign of a true masterpiece if it can affect your emotions so much. Watching your go redder and redder the more it hit you is the same way it hit me. I'm a 56 year old guy and not ashamed to admit I feel the same way. I've also noticed that it's more a male thing to cry for this, out of all the times I've seen it a few women have cried but men make up the majority.
BEST REACTION on this! It's beyond description. You have to feel it blasting through your soul...and you're still speechless 😭😭😭❤❤❤ Thank you for not editing out your tears.
"Hard to believe that this version is better than the original." Absolutely better. This version is gold in audible form. As for the reply by "acehole", I think the username says it all.
I was a mirror of how the song affected you. When I heard it on Conan, I couldn't pause it. I was in shambles at the end. Literally sobbing, crying with how deep it struck my soul. The hair on my arms were standing up well after it ended. I can only recall 2 others songs that wrecked me. This truly is Disturbed at their finest.
When the original author personally endorses a cover and praises it, sharing it for the world to see, you know you did something right. I'm not even a big Disturbed fan, but it's just such a perfect reimagination in every way.
I grew up with S&G version of this song. Then David belted this song from the voice of the LORD an made me a forever fan of him and his voice. His ranges blew my mind.
Dude, I'm so glad that you skipped over this song. Because of that, we were able to share the experience with you. "And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon God they made!" Might be the most poignant and Powerful lyrics I've heard in a song, paired with the incredible vocal prowess of David Draiman was a true emotional gut-punch.
SO AGREE. I'm used to songs that hit the heart, songs that make you think but this one hits straight into the solar plexus and screams into the human SOUL. That part especially!
People our age break down when we hear greatness in music because we understand the magnitude of what has been lost just in our lifetimes. If you're 50ish you grew up in a golden age of musical greatness, and now you're asked to accept a sterile world of banal dregs as normal. I cry every time, Brother.
Wholeheartedly agree. I cry listening to this every time as well as 3 dire straits song. All 4 are just brilliant songs that are far above all others and always bring tears or sadness or joy depending on which one I listen to.
Even David Draiman got misty eyed hearing the initial recording their producer put together. He talks about it in this interview m.th-cam.com/video/7s8suGyf3sU/w-d-xo.html
I know....Right David, because that is exactly what happened to me the first time I heard. The Sound of Silence from the band Disturbed, it literally blew me away with how intense David Draiman. Singing is on this particular song, but then again I like just about every song from the band. Especially because my wife Melissa passed away last December. And some of their songs like The Light, Hold on to Memories, A Reason To Fight, Prayer, and last but not least. Their new song with Ann Wilson, Don't Tell Me. Just bring me to tears every time I hear these songs and many more of course. Peace out Brother, I'm Steve and it was nice to find your TH-cam channel.
I've never seen your channel before today. This is what I love seeing the most in 'reaction' videos. Your natural, honest and heartfelt reaction to this song was absolutely perfect. Since I first heard this song covered by Disturbed, I can't listen to the first few bars without starting to choke up. Usually, by the end, my face is often wet with the emotions flowing down my face. Thank you, David. I haven't seen any other reactions from you yet, but based on the heartfelt honesty of this reaction, (to what has become one of my all-time favorite songs), I'm subscribing. Cheers and best wishes from Saskatchewan, Canada. Keep on feeling your feels, my friend.
FEELIN' YOU Jerry!!! Glad you are enjoying the channel so far, more fresh content coming daily. Also, there's over 1000 videos in the back catalogue of the channel for you to go back and check out. I'm sure you'll find at least a few you'll want to watch.
Same. This is my first time on this channel. And he has one of the most honest reactions I've seen. If you don't at least tear up at this song, you're not human.
I think this might be the most perfect song I've ever heard. If I had to chose only one song that I was allowed to listen to for the rest of my life this would be it. The music, his voice, the emotion, the message, the video, all perfection!
The first time I heard Disturbed sing this I was ASTONISHED! The composition is a masterpiece of arrangement, storytelling, and performance. This was so well done. David started with a soft and intimate, almost nostalgic, and conversational tone, and gradually built up with each verse, introducing new elements along the way. At times his voice was that of an angel and a devil. The song, as he performed it, has a spiritual quality that carries profound meaning and leaves the listener knowing they have just witnessed something transcendent.
I had no idea who Disturbed was. I have no idea who you are. I've been watching and listening this music for the last 12 hours and the countless 'reaction' to the Conan and the original video (didn't know this 'reaction' was a thing on YT either). Your reaction is the closest to my first reaction to this song when I first stumbled on it accidentally last night. I'm an ex music producer/engineer and I must say this was the most powerful 4 minutes of music I've EVER heard, cover or original, professionally or personally. This music delivers the truth to perfection; even the slightest minor imperfections adds to the impact it delivers. Truly an amazing performance, especially the Conan live version. Yes, I'm old enough and fortunate enough to have heard the original S&G version during my teen years in its proper context.
Just when I thought a reaction from you couldn't get any better than the Metallica/Lady Gaga reaction..well it did! Love your honest, raw, emotional reactions and most of all your true love for great music❤
I purposely did not listen to this cover (for 4 years) for the exact reason you did. I didn't think they could do the original justice. Not only did I cry, I got chills from head to toes. Disturbed now owns this song, imo. When Paul Simon heard it, he said, "It's your song now!" And he put it on his personal social media channel. Outstanding song and reaction! Thank you for allowing me to feel I wasn't alone in my emotional reaction to this song!
I can never experience this song for the "first time" ever again, but reaction videos like yours help me remember how moved I was when I first heard it. And THANK YOU so much for showing us how it affected you!! Thank you for not editing your silences and thoughtful moments as you took in the music. For me, all of that really makes this a true reaction video. And I really like your interpretation that the song is about censorship; I'd never thought of it that way, but it makes sense! I really enjoyed this video; thank you! Edit: Also, I totally cried during this song.
I've been brought to tears from this song nearly every time I've heard it. It's seriously magical and meaningful, and to hear it from David of Disturbed is so incredible and unexpected.
David Draiman's voice has so much emotion in it when he's singing it that it makes you feel that emotion too. You are not the first reactor to cry and you won't be the last. Beautiful reaction!
I don't know who you are, never watched you before, but want you to know that this is exactly how I reacted the first time I watched and heard this video!! This man's voice is incredible and the interpretation is so pure!! It's amazing! And when I played it for my husband the next day, his comment was "What did I just listen to?" He was also floored! I have heard this song repeatedly since the first time. Never gets old!
David: His voice is so angelic David Draiman: Hold my beer No worries David. This is the same reaction we all had when we first heard this song and saw the video. So powerful. When Paul Simon tells you that this song belongs to Disturbed now you know you did it justice. It pierces your soul 🤘
Right? I was just thinking the same thing. Lost it in the same place. They did such an amazing job with the vocals as well as the visuals to punch you right in the gut with its amazingness. There is no better cover than this one. I’ve probably listened to this a thousand times and I still get chills and tears. It is just perfect.
Thank you for your beautiful, honest reaction. I can never hear it for the 'first time' again (even though it STILL sends chills through me, resonates & swells in my chest, & brings tears to my eyes), so I LOVE to see others get that experience themselves. In the end, obstacles to you listening ended up turning out for the best: You got to share this with so many, letting the world see that it's OKAY to share one's emotions, tears included, & gave us remarkable & important insight into one of the many interpretations of this song. Had you watched the Conan Live version instead, you'd have missed that visual symbolism in the official music video, which was as thoughtfully, carefully, & sacredly created as the arrangement & performance itself. Disturbed, & all involved in this production, gave a new voice to Paul Simon's meaningful words. They dared to 'disturb' the sound of silence.
I love it when a metal fan is so touched by this version of Sound of silence that he starts crying. Most of us cried and cried. I could NOT stop crying. I'm in my late 50's and I grew up with the S and G version. I've never listened to the lyrics because the original is soooo boring to listen to. No build up, no surprises at all. Then, I found this version. OH MY, David MADE me listen. His voice, the build up, the lyrics, the video, everything is SOOOOO perfect. David is telling a story here, an important one and he's getting angrier and angrier towards the end, because ppl did NOT listen since S and G warned us 8n the 60's the Neon God ppl had made. (TV, watching TV and not communicating anymore after a hard day of work coming together at home) Now, with the internet and so called Social Media (not social at all imo) ppl can't even communicate anymore at all. Really talking qand really listening to eachother. Imo, ppl are monkeys, shouting, screaming, yelling nasty words at eachother through their PC/Phone/Tablet keybord iso communicate eye to eye and LISTEN. Reading body language and facial expressions is important. . The Neon God is the internet now, not TV anymore. Great lyrics and sooooo true and this version? PERFECT. Goosebumps and tears everytime I'm listening and watching this PERFECTLY MADE video. Paul Simon told Disturbed "this is a Disturbed song now" and many artists had already covered it. I also dig the censorship, because that's also true. But S and G meant TV in the 60's. Thank you for your reaction. It was pure, honest and I couldn't agree more with what you've said. Greetings from the Netherlands!!! (With the WEF puppet PM and Goverment)
Exactly! I'm 61 and this song was on the radio all the time through the late 60' and 70s, and I hated it. It did "NOTHING" for me. So I never listened to the words. I always liked disturbed. Had a couple of their CDs, but the radio station on in this area that played my music overnight with no warning was a sports talk channel. I lost touch with a lot of the new rock. I only found this song maybe a year ago now. But this version is one of my favorite songs.
I cry every time. You are not alone. This song hurt on every level. Great review David! This is the song my 6 year old daughter fell in love with disturbed since she was 1 year old. She makes everyone shut up and stop what they are doing and let this song play when it comes on. It just mesmerizes her. It was love at first sight/note for her.
Paul Simon wrote and recorded a masterpiece. The only thing Distubed could do to do this song justice, is record a masterpiece themselves. They succeeded.
Anyone who can cry upon hearing a song based on nothing more than the purity of its beauty is, to me, a person who has a soul, and whose soul has been touched. That's not something to be made fun of. That's something to be admired. Music is a gift, and to be truly touched by it is a profound experience.
I felt the EXACT same way about this cover as you did. To me, sound of silence is untouchable. Or at least I thought it was. Until I saw my roomate play it on a loop for what must've been a week (thankfully I hadnt heard it myself) so I decided to check it out. Disturbed improved it on a scale that jeff buckley improved hallelujah, hendrix improved watchtower or johnny cash improved hurt. And sound of silence og rates in my top 50 songs ever still
Couldn’t have said it better myself and I’ve always said that if ur gonna cover a song, u better do it better than the original and the ones u just named off were perfect examples….I would also add Knockin on Heavens door by GNR
@@212mochaman omg now please go check out Adam Lambert’s version of Mad World and even better than that Adams cover of “Believe” by Cher….it even made Cher cry, it was so good!!! I’m anxious to hear ur thoughts on both, please let me know what u think 😊
I can not believe you have not listen too this before now. Best song cover ever. The Simon and Garfunkel was great but Disturbed and David Draiman take it to a whole new level.
Omg I've watched tons of reactions to this song... YOU, by far, had the best reaction I've ever seen!! It was Priceless!! Thanks for letting us watch you hear this for the first time. And everything you said is spot on with what I think about this song! You rock!😍😍🥰🥰
I could watch you react to this a hundred times. I felt the same way. I couldn't bear the thought of disturbed covering this beautiful song. I waited until THIS YEAR, 2024, to listen. And I reacted like you. Tears and incredible depth of emotion. Such a beautiful rendition of this song.
I've never seen you before, but thank you for being raw. It touches me so much to see how this music touches others who have never heard it. I hope and pray you understand why it affected you so.
As a 40+ year old woman. I can tell you that disturbed was in it's hay day when I was lol. And honey, out of all the reactors (metalheads as well as hip hop heads, pop heads, and break down analysis ppl) you cried and reacted at the exact parts that were ACTUALLY powerful to a TRUE fan of the time. I commend you on this reaction my friend :)
I feel you. I really can't help tearing up on this song. Its amazing. I listen to this song everytime before I sleep, it was years ago. I was living alone for years back then, where music and darkness was my only comforting friend.
You directed me here after my comment on your reaction to “Hi Ren.” Great reaction here - so honest. I, too, resisted listening to this song and credit you for making me watch/listen to it. This rendition is so beautiful and emotionally present. Although the original is beautiful and touching, this version is so much truer to the sentiment in the song. Great song and great reaction.
A true musician will break down in tears. The best musicians in my experience as a pianist, brass player and vocalist are extremely emotional and empathic and sometimes make practicing difficult. When a song truly hits a musician in the gut the performer knows it. Sometimes it makes the performance exceptional.
Dave! Hitting you in the feels! Ride it out brother! I get choked up every time I hear it. I'm glad you're a part of the human race my friend. It hit me just like it hit you. Those words at the end with his vocals are so impacting. Especially at this moment in the world with war.
People are so speechless, it’s very spiritual. Silence to me here means so many things. The silence of tranquility and authenticity in the beginning, and the silence caused by materialism, urbanisation, disconnection…silence that “cancer grows” in the middle of the song, and the silence we need for us the hear the warnings and signs bringing us back to ourselves, the silence that is ourselves. This song is a prophet.
The composition of this piece is by far one of the most impressive songs I've heard. They stripped it down and reconstructed it. David's version of hold my beer!
Paul Simon gave his blessing for this cover before it was recorded and was so impressed with the final result, Paul Simon himself linked it with the intent of it reaching more ears. So, this absolutely does not disrespect the original, it is instead an updated version and a tribute to the original. Paul Simon, himself, holds this cover in high regard, 'nuff said. Forgive me if someone else in the comments mentioned this first, but I felt it needed to be mentioned.
To say I love this song is an understatement. His voice, I have no words worthy enough of it in this song. You described the song and his voice perfectly. It still brings tears to my eyes listening to it. Thank you for reacting to this video.
I'm always here for your BABYMETAL reactions but I knew this one was going to be GOOD! I knew it. Disturbed turned this song into such an angry response to the warning Simon and Garfunkel gave us. David can sing like and angel or a demon. He has serious skills. The Conan O'Brian version was just as good and he was even sick during it. Great reaction. This song makes me tear up every damn time. It's just powerful.
The only thing better than hearing this song for the first time back when I first heard it on the album release, was a year or two back in 2019 when I caught Disturbed live with 'In this moment' at a VERY small Wilkes-Barre PA location. It was literally a standing room crowd, and I recall standing just below the stage at what amounted to an auditorium within maybe 10-15 feet of David Draiman as he belted this out. Some things are beautiful, some are amazing. Some experiences... I hate to say it, but they border on the religious. This was one of those times. This is a man that can SING. For a few moments out of our daily lives, the several hundred people in that auditorium became one mass of people, and you FELT everything that separates us from our fellow people melt away for one beautiful, short moment of space. I don't know how to word it better than that. Everyone in that crowd was bawling, or singing along, or both. He'd break into 'The Vengeful One' or 'Stupify', and we were all in a frenzy, raging, angry animals. He broke into 'Prayer', and we all bobbed our heads or moshed around. Damn few concerts I've seen that are THIS intense in the current day.
Well, you explained why I was reluctant to listen and why I listened nonstop in a loop after the first time I watched it. And watch/listen once a day since. And subscribed to Disturb and watched every video the produced. More than once. And I am just an 82 year old ex Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc. fan. Going to a live concert is on my bucket list (from Australia)
This is the first video of someone reacting to this song in which the host's reaction is the same as mine. The music, the lyrics, the delivery---together they pierce human flesh and find their target deep in the soul. The language of the lyrics is 20th Century, but the message is very Old Testament. Ponder it!
I loved this song when it was new. It took me a very long time to listen to this version. I decided that Simon and Garfunkle had written it for David Draimen. They didn't realize it at the time, but they did. Simon and Garfunkle's version never made me cry. Like this one does. I would love to hear them cover Bridge Over Troubled Water. Did you know that David Draimen was trained as a Kantor? I heard an interview where he described getting kicked over some disagreement regarding some behaviors the Rabbis didn't appreciate. About the emotion..... apparently this song had the same effect on David Draimen.
It is beautiful to see you react to David's rendition of Simon's song. Every time I hear this song, I tear up and get chills. I love Simon's version, but David's blows me away.
I was there when Simon and Garfunkel did this, I love this better at 69 yrs old, saw Disturbed in when they 1st came out and told my friends that man can really sing!! I cried too!!
Dude, i've been listening to this since it was released and still get teary eyed. Why? Because the authors gave us the warnings.... We never heeded it until Disturbed, took over and hit it. Now we all listen and speak, but it's too late... We followed neon lights and it's now integrated into our lives. Truth was sung... Also, it's like Disturbed showed us their heart.
Apparently Paul Simon loved this version too and said something along the lines that this was the kind of emotion he wanted in this song from the beginning.
David Draiman cried the first time he heard the finished song as well. He said in an interview that was the first time since he was a teenager that he had heard his voice in that tone. He trained to be a Jewish Cantor as a teenager. He also trains with a vocal coach a lot to keep his voice in good shape. When he recorded the song for the album he was high because he didn't think he was going to record his voice that day.
Lol omg I've seen almost every reactor do this song and I still laughed and cried the whole way thru with you! 😭 🤣What a great reaction! Thanks for sharing this with us 🤩 how have I not seen this until now??! 😳 All the best ❤️🇨🇦
When you make your way to Floor's appearances on the Beste Zanger's TV show, Henk Poort (who played the Phantom of the Opera for years in the Netherlands) sings this for Floor. In the final episode, Floor and Henk do an incredible version OF the Phantom of the Opera together. Have a great day, David.
The term Inused when I first commented on the various Reactions was... Pathos. David brings Pathos to a song that was not truly dark enough. As for his vocal ability, I attribute much to his being a Cantor.
I was so happy to find your first time review of sounds silence by disturbed. I’ve watched several people watch it for the first time, you have The same reaction that I have every time I hear this song done by disturbed. far out all
This song was done to perfection. I lost it the first time I heard it and I still cry every time. I feel it in my soul. Seeing your reaction was like I was watching it for the first time. Good for you for your depth...for your soul that is able to feel this! Real men DO feel and they DO show emotion and I fell in love with you for that. This is my first time seeing you but it will not not not be the last. You rock...beyond!!!!!
That song really hit me too, when I first listened to it last year. You're not the only one to cry. Also that message in the music video, of music being silenced, is what got me back into singing. I had stopped singing for some years, partly because I didn't really have time for lessons or a choire anymore, and also because I was shy and felt embarrassed about neighbors maybe hearing me practice. But then I heard that song, and saw that video. And I cried for maybe an hour and then I started singing again and only then realized how much I had missed it. Now, a year later, I sing almost every day. No neighbor has ever complained. And to me, it just feels so good to have that in my life again. So, in a way, Disturbed's interpretation of that song brought another voice back from the silence.
EVERYONE all around the world NEEDS to hear and feel this song. He has a way of getting this message across that evokes the deepest of emotions. David Draiman, you're God's vocal messenger!
I agree that his voice is that of an avenging angel or a bronzen djinn, i never like covers more than the original… except for in this single case. And don’t worry, nobody resists breaking down from this song the first… well its a lot of times. If you want to see one of the only other examples i have of a guy with a truly angelic voice i would recommend checking out the occapella band Pentatonix, in particular start with Haleluya (spell check). After that i would say to choose between bohemian rhapsody (best instrumental representation), say something (most heartfelt), the prayer (maybe their prettiest arrangement, though its hard to choose), or the daft punk medley (their ode to who they are) if you like them. After that if you want to continue id say go to either imagine, or mary did you know. In fact there are two members of their band whom i would place in the angelic spectrum comfortably when they sing, although one you only hear sing rarely.
I didn’t want to hear Disturbed do The Sound Of Silence until I heard it. Now it’s my preferred version. It’s great watching other people mirror my own reaction to it. They nailed it.
This has always been my favourite Simon and Garfunkel song but I thought it was always missing something. It was missing the grit. It's a lovely song in its original, but in my POV Disturbed added the missing element and really spoke to my heart. It brought me to tears as well.
i appreciated this video. i thought you were full of shit before when you hadn't heard this song and you kept skipping it....i liked the reaction and i liked what you said afterwards. i went from thinking this was full of shit to being my favorite reaction to the song. but what you said afterwards was what affected me the most. when something affects us so much, it's hard to put those feelings in to words or even the meaning in to words. it runs THAT deep. and if we were to sum things up in 5 minutes, the words wouldn't do anything justice. some people may think it was too much talking, i think it was just enough. it was long but justified in my opinion. also, i've listened to this song many many times and i still get tears in my eyes. i am not even a fan of metal or disturbed. i am a classic rock guy. after hearing this song for the first time, i was compelled to do some research on the singer. what a great guy. i love that guy! just the history of his life and how he turned out humble with good morals and values and caring and loving person. hard worker. determined to make it. and just the creativity that goes in to making a song like this tells a lot about a person. the patience and the time it had to have taken to make it almost perfection. this ranks up there with some of the historic classic rock songs i love. if we are going to critique it and be asshole about it, yea, i give it a 9.7 or close to it too....but this song is easily a 10 when it's just about the music and i don't give 10's but this is a 10. i am so happy for this dude because as a metal singer he's not going to get all the recognition he actually deserves but this song put him on the map and i don't thinka cover has ever been done better when there are only a select few covers just as good or better than the original.
anyway, i really appreciated your reaction video here. and i laughed so hard when i heard the pigs man. this is the first time on your channel and that shit was funny! good job with everything and wish ya continued success with this channel! as far as listening to this song for the first time in years, well it's always better late than never.
I did the exact same thing.. Wait till watches the Conan version!!
Nice, Thanks.”
Draiman responded.
I'm about to be 62, I get goosebumps every time.
It was written Because Of JFK > ASSASSINATION > WILL BE RETRIBUTION ON THOSE WHO KNOW .

FUTURE PROVES PAST
Today, I have watched 7 professional voice coaches, composers and such, their reaction is well deserving of this artist. Tear's, goose bump, etc because this is a very impactful delivery. I am a 70 year old Great Grandmother and I do not hand out compliments easily unless well deserved
Whoever doesn't feel this version they are dead.... So moving. Goosebumps
But being someone born in the early 80s, this one resonates with me slightly more
Paul Simon posted this to HIS facebook after the Conan performance, keep in mind, David Draiman has the Flu during that performance.
My sentiments EXACTLY! The first one was a plea, this one the author is now PISSED OFF!
Very nice post.
@@robbob5302 Thankyou
Same, I periodically go through and look for reaction to certain songs, this being one of my top ten. I get goose bumps, tears every time!
Exactly! It gets better! Wait for it! You think that was good wait until you hear this! Hahahaha! I just love it immensely!
It's fair to cry at this, Draiman's take on this song is very emotional and impactful. Absolute legend. Even Paul Simon said he did it best.
That's what I'm here for.
Thank you.
FEELIN' YOU John!!! I needed this comment today. You put a smile a MY face and brightened MY day.
The live version from talck show conan is better
@@toyota420xp I agree, Conan's Talk Show is the better version of the two & 'cos it's "Live" with an Orchestra.
David Draiman usually sings loud and gritty. But he was originally a classically trained opera singer.
@@toyota420xp Too bad it uses autotune
I've probably heard this song a thousand times. Every time David sings that high, pure tone on "in the naked light I saw" I get goosebumps. Every time.
Not everyone notices that
I do too!
" 10 thousand people maybe more".
Yess, that part is powerful. That tone mixed with the visual imagination of 10,000 people . Everyone's imagination goes where it goes with that but I think of Jesus Christ returning in power and glory and a mass of people just looking up and watching him in awe.
I got goosebumps just reading your comment when you quoted that line... SO good
When I first heard that Disturbed had covered this song I was angry. How dare ANYONE touch Sound of Silence.
THEN I heard it.
I'm not even ashamed to admit I SOBBED with the beauty of this version.
I am now very much a fan of Disturbed, because of this song. This is just special.
My first reaction same! How dare anybody touch that song?!? I grew up hearing that song!
And then...I heard it. Sobbing for sure. Cried and cried.
You need to tell your Mom Paul Simon told David this song is their song now and gave him his blessing.
@@yolandarivera5730 oh I have, but try to get an aging hippie to listen to their child 😂
This song ALWAYS makes my eyes water. Hard to believe that this version is better than the original. And to be clear, the original is great.
Anyone that believes this piece of shit is better should probably not announce it.
@@Stockhandle123 Why would you say something like that?
It's his opinion, doesn't he deserve to speak it?
Are you hearing without listening?
You misspelt your name Acehole.
@@nekiritan6779 Some people just don't get it.
"Hard to believe that this version is better than the original."
Absolutely better. This version is gold in audible form. As for the reply by "acehole", I think the username says it all.
This song by Disturbed is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my life.
Yes, it certainly makes an impact ! Oh boy...😦😎👍
This truly is Disturbed at their finest.
what were the other 2 songs?
Really good... 😎✊️💥
@@DarlaAnne Without question!
People our age break down when we hear greatness in music because we understand the magnitude of what has been lost just in our lifetimes. If you're 50ish you grew up in a golden age of musical greatness, and now you're asked to accept a sterile world of banal dregs as normal. I cry every time, Brother.
❤️
100% facts!
Wholeheartedly agree. I cry listening to this every time as well as 3 dire straits song. All 4 are just brilliant songs that are far above all others and always bring tears or sadness or joy depending on which one I listen to.
100% agree with every word 👏
This song hits me every single time I hear it... So powerful and meaningful really grabs you. David Draiman is phenomenal... Best cover EVER ❤
I think any human being listening to this has the same reaction. And if they don’t, they are not human. Excellent authentic reaction!
Even David Draiman got misty eyed hearing the initial recording their producer put together.
He talks about it in this interview
m.th-cam.com/video/7s8suGyf3sU/w-d-xo.html
I didn't cry but I understand why people would. Just made me feel powerful like hearing Thunder or watching and listening to The Haka being performed
I just typed the same words before seeing this post. I 100% agree that if you don't feel this song, you don't have feelings.
I mean only one song has ever made me tear up and it wasn't this one. But, it's still phenomenal.
Have you ever heard so much of one’s soul put into a song. This is what you call a masterpiece .
I don’t know of any other voice/song that has affected me this deeply. Kudos to David and I’d love to hear him do more of these types of renditions.

I agree

FEELIN' YOU Mets!!! Glad you enjoyed the video, hopefully you'll continue to enjoy the channel.
This song definitely raises the hair on your arms, doesn't it! Such a fantastic rendition of a classic song. If you don't tear up, you aren't human!
Well I'm glad you discovered the channel Dorothy, hopefully you'll find more content on the channel that you will enjoy as well. FEELIN' YOU!!!
David: His voice is so angelic
David Draiman: Hold my beer
No worries David.
(TV, watching TV and not communicating anymore after a hard day of work coming together at home)
Now, with the internet and so called Social Media (not social at all imo) ppl can't even communicate anymore at all.
Perfect vocal, and this cover isn't really a cover...it is a perfect new interpretation. Have loved it for years. Best cover ever. Cover = original.
Even Paul Simon said he prefers this version to his own! How much of a compliment is that? Amazing vocals.
Bless you, for your heart. I mean, hard not to be moved by this performance. I've seen it thousands of times and I cry every time.
@@tiacalhoun3841 fair call. There's always a 4th wild card. Mine's mad world by gary jules (donnie darko soundtrack)
@@212mochaman omg now please go check out Adam Lambert’s version of Mad World and even better than that Adams cover of “Believe” by Cher….it even made Cher cry, it was so good!!! I’m anxious to hear ur thoughts on both, please let me know what u think 😊
If you think Buckley improved Hallelujah, try the Pentatonix version.
Shinedown's cover of "Simple Man" is one of those for me; otherwise agree with your list.
I can not believe you have not listen too this before now. Best song cover ever. The Simon and Garfunkel was great but Disturbed and David Draiman take it to a whole new level.
I heard this several years ago. I had just pulled in my carport… I sat there and sobbed. Nothing has ever made me feel that. Nothing.
David, I feel honored to be a part of such an emotional moment in your life. I cried along with you.
I've never seen you before, but thank you for being raw. It touches me so much to see how this music touches others who have never heard it. I hope and pray you understand why it affected you so.
Oh man! Excited for this!! It’s a top three covers of all time for me. David did his thing bringing the song into a new era.
We all cry. 🖤
This is an EXPERIENCE... you can't just listen to this song you actually feel it way deep down!!
David takes everyone to their spiritual side with this. Loved going to church with David!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never in the history of music have a singer and a song been more beautifully matched. Perfection.
I have listened to this song so, soooo many times and I STILL have a teary every single time. SUCH a beautiful version.
Ponder it!
Based on your opening remarks I knew you weren’t going to be ready for this masterpiece. It’s really moving.
I'm 68 and couldn't agree more!
Millions have had the same reaction. It totally touched my soul. Amazing piece of music.
I'm right there with you brother. I've listened to this song hundreds of times and it always hits me deep.
Apparently Paul Simon loved this version too and said something along the lines that this was the kind of emotion he wanted in this song from the beginning.
Your emotion is not alone. Even the singer after he finished the song went out behind the studio and wept!
FEELIN' YOU Ellie!!!
I find myself getting emotional On certain chord structures and combos of melodies and harmonies. The power of music is amazing.
This is got to be one of the best reactions i have ever seen to this song .. his voice hits you hard from the build up to the ending of the song 🎵
The term Inused when I first commented on the various Reactions was...
Pathos.
David brings Pathos to a song that was not truly dark enough.
As for his vocal ability, I attribute much to his being a Cantor.
I can't believe you did this song! It is the kind I would've thought you already knew. It's beautiful and powerful. Love your reaction btw
Best reaction on TH-cam to this song. It’s exactly how it should make you feel. The power this song has to move people is phenomenal.
Don’t feel bad, it hits everyone this way. Such a powerful vocal and story telling.
Thanks for sharing this 🙂 I cried like a baby when I first heard it 😁 it still chokes me up, great to see I'm not alone
The note he hits at 11:07 is a clean, clear and pure note, the range he has is phenomenal, one of the best vocal performances of all time imo 👏
EVERYONE all around the world NEEDS to hear and feel this song. He has a way of getting this message across that evokes the deepest of emotions. David Draiman, you're God's vocal messenger!
It made me cry too. I'm 64 years old. I still cry every time I watch one of these. This song moves you like no other.
Respect for the respect they gave the song. Beautiful rendition
I've listened to this song for years. Listened to many reactions, and I still cry almost everytime. No shame, it's very emotional and powerful
