After reading books by Spare, Hine, and all those many men - it's absolutely lovely to hear about Chaos Magick from a woman's point of view. The strong masculine vibe (especially when I was in my teens reading Christopher Hyatt and Robert Anton Wilson) is what turned me off of this realm of magick for so long. 10 years later it's been really inspiring to see female voices, like yours and The Chaos Witch, opening the doors of how Chaos Magick is expressed. And it's definitely given me a new vantage point to see why it's something I am/was drawn to in the first place, without letting biases get it the way.

there's a basic path of least... that things follow,
      with no... "help"
but pushing the path off line, moving away from the top of the bell curve, asking, forcing, leading, nudging the atomic structure to follow its natural path to creation,
      just
with your added efforts to move them off line here n there so they lean into your/my life... area of operation.

Thank you so much! I'm just beginning my exploration of chaos magick theory and I love connecting it with Chaos theory in science and mathematics: thinking of the concept of chaos as unpredictability, systemic thinking (instead of linear thinking), and 100% pure potentiality. Through the lens of chaos, the individual person can affect change in his/her environment that can go way beyond the individual level. And the principal of self similarity and fractals and their implications for how the individual relates to the Whole ("as above so below...") It's so empowering!

I've started with Liber Null, thanks for the other recommendations. As a musician, and being fascinated by Austin Osman Spare, I've always enjoyed the idea of combining "magick" and "art" (Well, these words mean the same thing to me, but the combination with music is not so obvious as it is with the visual arts in society). I'm loving your videos and random subtleties of yours like occasionally using the expression "one stop shop". Got a new fan :) Have a nice year! By the way, what do you think about combining chaos magick and Astrology? Like creating the "birth chart" of a servitor or applying astrological traits for them to help with a certain task, or using astrological moments for enchanting or enhancing anything. I've always wanted to devise my own "system of magick" based on Astrology, and perhaps with a touch of music / audio sigils. What do you think?

A considerable amount of shamanic magick entails the use of entheogens. Shamanism is a major part of Chaos Magick - both conceptually and by extension practise. I have used sex, drugs and a plethora of taboo practiques to enhance my power - however, my star pupil also has reservations about doing this.
Anyone can practice magick - not everyone is Mozart.

Since I did the spell jars, the hallucinations came through as personified music, or vibrations. When I answer their communications, I feel as though I am raising a vibe.

This is absolutely fascinating to me. I had heard about chaos magick but never looked into it nor was I drawn to it. Right now, I'm pretty rooted in eclecticism, but who knows. One day when I figure shit out, maybe I'll want to start all over again and try on some different shoes. The idea, the concept of that shedding is definitely very attractive to me. I'm in the middle of a total spiritual overhaul right now, but once that's done, even just for the knowledge/exploration of other paths/structures (or destructures?), I'm definitely going to check out those books you recommended.

Did those two things and think I went insane a couple times as well.
But it had nothing to do with chaos magik, I did it because I liked and because I could.
For chaos magik I think it has much more practical uses in your life than just indulgence in hedonism.
Chaos magik is more useful to accept certain things as broken but perfect the way they are, to not rely on overly complicated ritualism as magic is around you everywhere, you don't necessarilly need anything but intention if you don't want to use sigils and such.
Here is a thing if anyone is interested in trying, but I warn beforehand that it can be very painful depending on who you are and what do you believe.
Start by picking your positive beliefs, the ideas you believe that are good and that people usually say it's a good trait about you.
Now analise why you have those ideas.
Are you generally good or does these ideals you have also benefit you in any way?
Are you doing things primarilly out of generosity and good will or are you just praising your ego and acting out of selfishness?
Even if it's the second option, you shouldn't be afraid or ashamed of it, that's just you.
Now go deeper, it's time to confront the things that you try to hide from everyone else, things you tried to lock in a box and bury it.
    Can you accept those things?
If you can't accept can you at least try to change or redirect their intentions to do the opposite they're supposed to?
"Evil" things can be used to do good and "good" things can cause evil as well.
Maybe punching someone in the face is an evil thing to do, but what if the person you punched was about to hurt someone even more than just a punch and you've prevented that from happening?
Having harmony is good, but what if said harmony comes from tyranical imposition?
In chaos lies the infinite possibilty of learning about so many things, and by learning about them you could try to control them, though no control can remain absolute for too long.
I just don't think one should hold too much into any belief if it's too dogmatic though, as dogma might become a hinderance for your own development, if one day I see fit I might leave behind all I've learned.
If one is working with deity worship on their chaos pratices I'd recommend taking a look on the more cthonic side of the greek.
Ultimatly you may dismiss everything I wrote and follow your own idea of chaos as for some reason I have a feeling that the more I learn the less I know, so I might have been saying just a bunch of nonsense and not even realizing it.

YES! Thank you. While I try not to get hung up on what anybody else is doing, sometimes I'm like "Weeell, not exactly" when someone (typically in some kind of online forum with no profile picture) is grasping at random labels to express how they operate as magickal practitioners.

When you say that for example, you leave behind being a practicing Wiccan to become a Satanist, and then later believe in faeries, and so on....is "leave behind" a key concept in chaos magick? For example, I believe in Wiccan concepts, Christian concepts, Satanist concepts, different pantheons, faeries, nordic magick, and my beliefs are all over the place. Would this still be eclectic in the sense that it's certain concepts just pulled together? In contrast, chaos magick would be totally disregarding those concepts and trying out the concepts that you didn't take to or believe in, is that correct?

I probably should have waited to ask that. Watched near the end where you explain that you can be involved in something for as long as it takes until you're absorbed and then move on. That makes much more sense.

+Kelly Spence Awesome. :) It's a fiddly topic, right? I've no doubt that I could have explained it much more neatly to be fair, but in the end I know that I have to just make the damn video instead of overthinking how I'm going to say it. Glad it ended up making sense!

Chaos theory is the reason they can not accurately predict the weather all the time. Small causes can end up causing large changes in the environment. When you throw a sigel into the chaosphere or the TAO (same thing) that little act can cause it to thunderstorm today instead of sunny day like old Doppler told us. If its aimed right.

I will need to read more, but it sounds like if I have a good solid physical and emotional foundation, and start slowly is a great way to go because really you yourself are in the driver's seat! I think people hear the word chaos and they've prejudged it, and then listen through that lens and any new information gets thrown out the window to the wayside because it doesn't fit in with that preconceived notion of the word. Only with an open mind, can people then try to understand what chaos is all about.

That was fun but you should talk about how to do chaos Magick, making sigels, creating servitors, fireing those sigels into the chaosphere, tao , whatever, & let that sucker roll into appearance! Chaos theory involves the butterfly effect. A small action , like stepping on a butterfly can eventually cause major effects in the environment. DATS WAT WE DOO!! We cause changes in the environment in accordance with will!!! Ha ha we are so damn cool 😎

I’ve tried to read Carroll & Spare et. al. and I just can’t see it through, but, having said that I acquiesce with all the hypertext stuff on Wikipedia Portal. Hesiod’s first Deity was Chaos! I’ve been to the sanitorium in 3x separate countries, done all of the drugs, but never experienced an orgy (maybe I am too “vanilla”, in that respect?). What if you have a set of practices that don’t produce effective results but you keep doing them anyway?! That’s where I’m at rn.

It sounds akin to the philosophy of postmodernism in some ways. Where is the realism within Chaos Magick? The potency of the Kia (Chayah) could make any belief system have some result; however, that doesn't indicate that the phenomenal world itself is devoid of realism or that there are no noumena. It does no good to evoke fairies all day long if one is already accustomed to invoke ancient Egyptian deities with precise results. Trying new things all the time is not the point, neither is being bound to a rigid dogma or tradition. The power lies in the disciplined mind but it is expressed in manifestation of self and world through those archetypes that are most relevant to it. Otherwise, in terms of symbols, there are virtually limitless systems one can conceive or adopt to the point of being a nomadic dilettante. The archetypes, symbols, and metaphors are merely representations of the magical reality to which they allude. In the grade of Magus, it is the job of the "cynocephalus ape" to distort every conceivable word of the Magus for all language is incapable of expressing the ultimate nature of reality. It would be far less important what you call yourself rather than what you do.

The big problem with chaos magick theory & practice as it has been written down, as I understand it, and as I figure it to be practiced to this day, has to do with a lack of direction.
Chattering minds chime in to remind me how that's its nature, that its way is simply 'way'. As an initiatory practice, yes. CMT with its own charm ~can~ get you outside the atmosphere, however... Its not designed to do anything else. This system is designed to get you into the next frontier. That's its appeal. Build a ship, find a gate, GO! So this isn't a problem. Now you're using a system that speaks for itself when it tells you its not a system. You are before the gate, now you're on the other side... Okay?? The ship, what gave interest, everything you made and everything you took with you to the other side, this was not by your design, NOT your resources. Its no different than the gate. Which you found. Finders does not make keepers, you were reacting, and were confused, thinking interacting with effects meant doing anything at all. You were along for the journey, riding waves. Waves remind, waves remember. Now you don't belong to the virgins club. And so when you get on the other side, you still rely on the fuels, just like real NASA ships. You may think that is cool. Its okay, its old. NASA ships don't get very far. And eyes aren't everything.
The problem is you. Since you did not design *both* who and what you are, you are s.u.b.j.e.c.t to change, always dealt hand. Your greatest strength, the understanding that you have time on yOur side. This, beyond pleasure.. Is weakness. To be whole & satisfied with strength of being - is neglectful(although probably hereditary). Sensitivity*Reaction. Every void is a gate. Everything has nothing to do with you.
The solution is obvious. Something from nothing. But.. something always comes from something. Modern magick known to the public is dress up, its civilized. Most civilians don't actually know what it means to be civilized. Its called black magic for a reason. Not the shade, no, the figure default. Of course, if all you want to do is have fun, take trips.. Sure. However, if greatness is your ideal. May God have mercy.
