Story 2: it was 😂 for the pastor to said "oh cute Tom & Jerry" and the reaction of the parents said "WTF did we just do" 😂😂😂😂

My family has a naming tradition, so our names tend to be either pretty normal or super weird. No in-between. A relative of mine's parents were named Juarez and Hilda, so her dad decided to name her Juarilda. Thankfully, her mother had common sense and she ended up with the more sensible... Jane.
When we were considering names for our daughter we almost gave her the initials KFC by mistake. He realized it and said ”Heck no, we are not giving our daughter the initials KFC, the first little boy that says ‘finger likin good’ I’m going to jail”

When I went to have my son the nurse was chatting with us asking if we had a name picked out. I told her what we had landed on and she approved of our choice. She said that she had started trying to check what parents planned on naming their kids so she could try to talk them out of bad names ever since she had a patient who named her daughter Chlamydia.

Hippie parents, my sister and I got named after the four elements. Though, they were smart enough to not straight up name us Earth Sky and Fire Water.

My brother's wife was considering naming their son William Robert. Both his grandfathers are William and her brother was Robert. Until I was all like "really? William Robert? ... Billy Bob?" Yeah they went wih William Lee.😊

The very last name was the best. I guess Pat and Rick took the “two shall become one” line way too seriously. Best worst name I have heard is “Placenta”. My dad is a pediatrician and said he has seen lots of weird names. But when he saw “that one” he asked the mother how she decided on the name. Mother was from a low S.E.S. household and was still loopy from anesthesia and heard the term “placenta” and said “that sounds nice. That is what I will call her”. I seriously don’t know if my dad was trolling me with this story or not. But he started practicing in the mid 80’s in Detroit. So it could be a true story.
2:15 in Germany, when parents register the birth of their child, the "registry office" could veto a name. It happens very rarely, but I'm pretty sure Erotica would be a red flag. Other inadmissible names are Satan or Hitler. So names, that could harm the child.
E.g. product names like Pepsi or Cheerio.
On the other hand: if it's a name used in other cultures, it's no problem at all.
Luckily we have that in Germany

My grandpa(born 1910) went by his middle name, Rudolph, for many years until the book came out in 1939.

My father had planned to name me Alf, like that furry cat-eating alien from the 80s. Good thing my mother had more sense.
So, if you can believe it, there is actually a story worse than the little girl named Erotica. A friend of mine was told this story by a doctor who’d helped a young lady give birth in the 50s. He gave her a book on reproductive health to help her understand what she was going through, even though was semi-illiterate . He saw her again years later, and she joyfully told him he’d made such a difference in her life, so much so that she’d given her two baby girls names from the book he’d given her. The girls’ names were Gonorrhea (pronounced Gon-NOR-rhea) and Syphilis (pronounced Si-PHALL-is). So, yeah.
My hometown had a young lady was named (pronounced Your-ee knee Shamplee). Spelled "Urine Sample".
If anyone remembers there were three children the state removed from their parents due to the children's names, one of which was Aryan (as in Aryan Nation), I believe a brother was named Adolf Hitler.

My parents wanted to name me Benjamin, but my mom changed it last second when I was born.
I absolutely hated the new name growing up.
Fast foreward to me at 25 and coming out trans to my parents and one of the names I suggested was "Benjamina"
Mom felt offended.

The fixation many of us have that foreign names must "mean something" makes me laugh. My favorite line from "Pulp Fiction" comes while Butch is escaping from the fixed fight. His taxi driver says, "My name is Esmeralda Villalobos. It means Esmeralda of the Wolves. What does Butch mean?" and Butch goes, "I'm an American, baby. Our names don't mean ***t."

As a Jacob, I was named for the Biblical character.
The beer was named after the founding father so technically he was named after Samuel Addams the founding father.

This reminds me of a certain goat monster king that has ended the physical existence of small humans, is a king, can destroy the ability to spare your enemy’s life and is actually very nice but also sucks at naming stuff.
On reddit a woman (I'll call B) who pregnant post that a woman (I'll call K) she worked who pregnant with her was planning on naming her child, Mackoneum after her doctor said it, K and her partner would call Him/Her/Them Mac but their offical name on the birth certificate and other documents their name would be Mackoneum. K told B she didn't want to know any of the medical terms.

My middle name is Ellyse. It typically only has one 'L' but my dad wanted it spelled with 2. In my opinion, the two 'L's lookd more elegant
I read a reddit story where OP's cousin named their kid Karen. OP tried to talk her out of it but she insisted and OP caught heck for trying to talk the cousin out of the name. Then OP caught heck for not talking cousin out of naming their baby Karen. Can't win sometimes.

My Grandma absolutely hated her given name, Nancy, so much that she went by her middle name, Rose. It was to the point that I didn't even know it was her middle name until my Mom told me years after she died. Mom, on the other hand, had the most common girls name of her year, to the point that if someone called her name in school, 20 heads would turn. That might be an exaggeration, but you get the idea. I am so glad she broke the cycle with my name. It's perfectly normal, I love it, it comes with a fantastic built-in nickname, and I have the same initials as my paternal grandfather, who gave the best hugs.
I'm naming my first daughter. When the time comes, "Leila" pronounced Lay-la after my finnish great aunt, who meant a lot to me growing up and passed away in 2018.

I remember one year in my 5th grade there were 5 Jacobs in the class and this was before Twilight was even made. We had so many different ways of differentiating that name. One was stuck with Jake, another was Jacob, another Jacoby the fourth got Jakey. And the last got Jake/Jacob with their last initial that wasn’t repeated last name. Example one last name was Walker and the other Walter so last name initials wouldn’t work.

On the short list of names of names my parents though about naming me here was Fiona. I was born before Shrek came out but i was still very young when it did. I thank them often for not naming me that.

I don't think so. TH-camrs give out their full names all the time, but it's their location and personal info that's the most sensitive.

Same reason that in the books I write I call the structure I landed on the moon the Apollo Ground Station and not the Apollo Surface Station. I guess I could have called it the Lunar Surface Station, but Apollo has an iconic sound to it. Apollo Lunar Surface Station covers all of the requirements, I guess, but it is kind of wordy.
My parents named me Haliey. I don't hate the name, sense the nurse asked my at the time drugged up mom. How she wanted it spelled. I just get annoyed when someone spells it incorrectly, even when I spell it for them. They always assumed that they spelled it right. By spelling it as either Haylee (how its actually pronounced), Hailey, or Halley. My name has no meaning behind it...

My name is the French version of a popular children book’s main character’s. You have no idea how many time people have misspelled my name even when I’m spelling it out to them. I love my name, but gods is it frustrating. And don’t even get me started on the movie that came out that sounded like my name. I went to the principal’s office more than once for beating the boys who bullied me because of it. Still can’t watch that movie.

Ok this was for my sister. My name is a pretty good name in India and there are many success full women with my first name. When it came time to name my sister, my parents took months to find a name. Ultimately, they took the first 3 letters of my name (my name has 5 letter and so does my sisters) and placed them after the last two. So my name is goes like - 1 2 3 4 5 (numbers are the letter stand ins) and my sis's name goes like - 4 5 1 2 3. The meaning is great. My parents dont regret it.
