About 2 months ago I bought a Spectra Precision CR 700 laser receiver to use when I'm building a building pad or above ground pool pad. I made a stick mount that I can secure to my skidsteer bucket and grade without getting out of the machine to check grade. After I got the hang of it, I have been able to grade out my pads to within a half inch or so. That thing has been a game changer. It's amazing what you can accomplish with the right equipment and a little experience. The building is turning out great and hopefully Tim is out of the doghouse by now. Be safe my friend.

    • @digdrivediy

That's a great use of your receiver. It is such a tremendous help when you don't have to get on and off the machine. Thanks BD!

Ya know I used to watch Tim quite a bit but to be honest I just got too jealous of him with his 100k + worth of implements he has at any given time to use. Neil on the other hand uses the same 30 + year old equipment that I myself would be using. Watching him overcome challenges like those I would face just makes for better viewing.
Thank you to both of you.

I’m sorry guys. We don’t intend to invoke jealousy. Obviously, we could not afford this equipment if we had to purchase it.
Also, we recognize that viewers cannot afford these many of these attachments.
We still think it is interesting to learn about them, and see them in action. Perhaps it is not to you? Seems like we are held to a different standard from letsdig18, dirt perfect, etc. no common person can afford their equipment either.
Anyway, we would love to have you join us again, not with the thinking that you should be able to afford all of this, but rather just to enjoy the content.

I finally finished the Pull type Grader box for my Kubota RTV a few weeks ago based on your plans but haven't used it yet. I don't have hydraulics so I used the actuator option, but it works great from the cab. I did deviate a bit from the basic plans you presented, but without them, it would have been a lot harder doing the configuration. I have some snapshots of it that I will send you if you want to see it completed. I still have to do the finishing work (paint) on it, but it operates great and I can watch it in my rearview mirror. I just wanted to say thanks for giving me and everyone else a guide and starting point with your video. The final word is a Movie reference: We don't need no stinking lasers Tim (LOL).

I’ve used that, “I forgot my wallet” excuse before. But, I had a friend who was an expert with it. He always wore sports shorts without pockets…
I was talking to another buddy who brought up that our mutual friend appeared to be a ‘freeloader’. So, we set him up. Before credit cards and debit cards were a thing…. We went over to pick him up for lunch. My buddy reminded him to grab his wallet. He walked back to the house and got it.
We went to the local burger place where burgers were two for a dollar. A drink and bag of chips cost another dollar. Taxes were 6%. So, his lunch was $2.12.
When it was time to pay, he pulled out his wallet and announced that he was out of cash. All that he had was a check. My buddy didn’t miss a beat and asked the burger guy, “You take checks. Doncha?”
He nodded his head and handed the ‘freeloader’ a pen. My buddy and I exchanged smiles as he wrote out the check. After that, he always seemed to remember his wallet with cash in it!
I like the idea of a tow behind box blade. Having two axes of positioning certainly improves the prospect of leveling. Laser guidance is like polishing a ripe apple. It is truly a slick system. And, by setting the level control higher or lower than the grade control, can even work tolerably well to build a crown (or side slope).
But, I agree with you that most driveway projects would be better done manually. Now, if you were going to pave the roadbed, it would be awesome to establish a proper slope and grade it automatically.
Neil… do I see a modification to add a second axis capability to your grading box in the future? If so, you are going to need an indicator to be able to know when the wheels are at the same depth. Otherwise you’ll chase your tail trying to find level. Some kind of Vernier type pointer and scale between the two wheel mounts might do it?
Thanks Neil… you guys gave me a bunch to think about!!!

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Oh boy! We all know one of those guys! I certainly didn't want to be "that guy" on this day though. It's especially embarrassing when you make a point of grabbing the check and then not realizing until you're standing at the register that you don't have your wallet! In the words of Bugs Bunny; "What a maroon"!
That grader box is really slick. I would have used it many times over the years. The best part for me was pulling that type of drawbar style grader box with the larger subcompact tractor. It was just so much more capable than Brutus unfortunately.
I don't think I'll be modifying my current greater box, but I do have another project in mind for my bigger tractor. I'd like to convert a 3 point box and the tilt function has really been something that intrigues me. I'm going to give it plenty of thought here yet.
Thanks for checking out both versions of the video, Dave!

It wasn't technology that brought us the better cordless drills. It was Chinese manufacturing and their access to the Lithium for the batteries, etc. Solar panels aren't new. They've been around almost since the diode/transistor was invented. They just aren't a cost effective alternative to traditional power sources and neither are all these windmills. I would remind you all of a little company called "Solyndra" that Obama poured a bunch of our tax dollars in to because they were big campaign contributors. This was money that was supposed to be for "infrastructure" and "shovel-ready jobs". Remember that? Yeah well they walked off with our tax dollars. So yeah, they're politicized and will stay that way.

This is just one big infomercial. Not up to the standard of the previous videos. Very disappointing.

Boy, sorry you feel that way but I can understand why. Certainly not many of my videos have had much advertisement within. Most of them I do without any endorsements and I still have a huge cost of time and energy. Most videos I make much less than minimum wage. I hope you can understand the desire to get a little more return on my time investment once in awhile.
The cost to you should still be free in either case.

I understand the need to make some money. Maybe just one product per video instead of two?

@@jeremynealqld Sure thing. Although I wasn't sponsored by Tim's grader box but rather I was just really impressed with it. I didn't mean for it to be an infomercial for that but I guess it was.

@@digdrivediy I’ve been enjoying the videos otherwise. Keep up the good work.
