This a how to video for replacing a motor blower resistor in a 2010 Ford Escape. You will need to replace this part if your fan does not work at all settings.
Thanks man, mechanic was going to charge just $65 to look at it, saved a whole lot more by finding your video. Wife thinks I'mma champ now. We in Texas too. Had to get it taken care of instead of spending $100. Thanks again man
After recovering from fainting as I was told by the ford dealer that it would cost $125 just to diagnose the problem, as it "may require taking off the dashboard", I said to myself, hopefully I can find something out on the web. Yours was the first one I saw and BOOM! Thanks a million plus $125.00
Fantastic. Curtis, thank you for posting this video. I'm a 52 year old women and besides having some trouble getting the screws out it worked like a charm. I'm sure you saved me hundreds.
Auto shop told me they would replace mine for $85. Finding the part needed on Amazon and watching this video saved me about $60-$70. Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I was able to replace my blower motor resistor after watching this all by myself & I am a chick with zero auto experience & very little tool experience!
Just found out I had this problem this cold morning. Wasn't impressed to say the least, but now sure am glad I saw your video and how easy this fix is. Thanks my man!
Curtis, You saved the day. My 2010 Ford Escape blower blew, just when our Canadian summer heat wave hit. My husband went out to the local Ford Dealer purchased the part for $25.00 and within 30mins presto...Air Conditioning working once again! Thanks for your great video.
Hi Terry / Curtis - I live in Vaughan, ON. Any suggestions on where I should look for the Blower motor resistor? My local Ford Dealer quoted me $250 +taxes and they need the car for a minimum of 2-3 hours. I was told by another auto shop that they need the VIN to get me a price for the part.
I'm sure if you check with one of you local Auto Parts store they will have the blower. Follow the video and you will have it replaced in no time. Good luck.
You are the best. I did it. Dealer wanted $135 plus drop off the car for 3 hours for them to work on and no appointment till next week. Cost me $30 and did in no time. Thanks a lot.
Hey Curtis, your instructions were absolutely correct. I bought the resistor from NAPA, based on what the Nissan dealer where I was GOING to take my wifes 2011 Ford Escape to told me he thought it would be. I looked under the dash but didnt see anything that looked correct. Pulled up your video and you were right about location, 8mm screws, everything. I did test mine before I actually put it back in, just to make sure, it worked. Your video saved me a bunch of money and I appreciate you taking time to share. Thank You!!! Just goes to show you can find almost anything on the Internet :) Now I need to take the Nissan service guy that provided the info a box of donuts. He earned them.
Your video saved me SO much time and money - thank you! Worked like a charm - part was $49 here in Canada, but still way cheaper than the few hundred dollars it would have cost to have it repaired in the shop, not to mention the lost time and inconvenience. THANK YOU
Thank you!! When I first realized the problem I though the parts and labor were going to be very expensive; then I came across your video and it was such a sense of relief to know that it didn't have to be. I ordered the part online for under $17. I got it replaced in less than 15 minutes. It must've been a little difficult to get the camera in the right angle to record the process. I appreciate you taking the time to post this. Thanks again!!
Curtis - thanks for your efforts! Ordered my resistor from the States for $15 (RockAuto, 3yr./60,000 km. warranty) & works like a charm. One addition: if the wire harness won't come off the top of the resistor easily (during removal), there is a third screw just to the right of the resistor securing the harness to the unit. Remove that and the connecting clip can be left attached while you pull out the resistor. At this point you can see what you're doing and how the clip attaches to the resistor. GOOD LUCK! Rick in Vancouver (Canada)
Just did this fix today. Worked like a charm! I did have to drill out the holes on my replacement part so that it sit flush in the slot, but that was very simple. Thanks for posting this and saving me $$$!
All these years later...this still works 😉 from one very non-mechanic to another, appreciate the (short) video, worked perfect down to the 8mm socket 🕺🏼
Thanks a million, Curtis. I purchased the new resistor for $27.97 at a local parts store. I had a little trouble getting the power connector off, but it eventually wiggled free. Thanks for noting the 8mm socket requirement. I found it trickier to secure the right screw because the power cord was on that side. The project took me less than 30 minutes, fixed the blower and saved me at least $200.00. There was a ton of condensation near the resistor (rainy day), so this is likely causing the corrosion. The 2012 Escape resistor did not need to be punched-out.
Excellent video!!! This was the exact issue with my 2011 Escape today. A $20 part and a little elbow grease and it's working perfectly! Thanks for the excellent and easy tutorial!
I know you have probably forgotten this video, but still wanna leave this comment saying... you're one hilarious fella! Great straight to the point video!
Thanx for this video. This turns out to be a common problem. I would've had no idea where to start if the guy who came to my house trying to sell me fios didn't tell me about the same problem he had in his escape
THANK YOU Curtis! Same as David, the dealer was going to charge me over $100 just to diagnose the problem. A $35 part, your video and 10 minutes and the problem was fixed. AWESOME. As Stew said below I needed a flat head screw driver to pop off the male connector, (mine is a 2011) but no major issues. Thanks again! Keep posting.
Hello "Curtis - I'm 100% not a mechanic." Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. EVERY time I try to fix something it takes ten trips to Home Depot or Auto Zone or whatever. Even THIS time I had to go to two auto stores to get the part, but BAM! It's fixed and your little video saved the day! You're the Bomb, Dude!
Thanx man this was 100%...cost $23 for mine. The 2011 model still has it in the same place but they covered the locking mechanism with plastic....take a small flat head screwdriver and ur gonna have to crack some off. There is a little slot at the top it fits into, but after its broken it still locks in place so don't worry.
Curtis. You the Man! I have a 2011 Escape that had the same problem. I viewed your video which correctly illustrated the problem and went to my local Canadian Tire Store and bought the part shown. It cost $43.00. I took the part home followed your instructions, replaced the resistor which fixed the fan speed issue. I have large hands and the space is cramped but I persevered and have a great sense of accomplishment. Thanks for a well thought out and accurate video. G
Thanks for posting. I has speeds 1 and 2 on my fan not working. Picked up the part at the local auto parts store for $22 and had it changed out in under 30 minutes. Keep up the good work!
The first thing I wanted to post after I saw this was I LOVE YOU!! You saved me over $200 dollars for sure and helped me find where the 2010 ESCAPE blower resistor was situated. Hope you will be there for all the other things that are bound to happen. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!
Went out for a coffee on this cold Sunday morning only to find out heater does not on my 2011 Ford Escape. I'm like "f@*k, what is it now? This is another $$$ for the repair". I came across your video, and went to Car Quest to buy the sensor. The only difficult part is removing that thing with tab. But anyway, this video helped me saved time and money. Thank you so much.
OMG thank you soo much man! truly a life savor! i was just about to go to a mechanic to pay an arm n a leg to get it installed for me but something told me to look on youtube and see if i can do it myself. Thanks my friend. now i feel like a real man lol
Thanks brotha!!! Just bought a 2011 Escape for my daughter from a family friend. Only speeds 3&4 worked. Your video gave me the confidence to fix it myself. The only thing I would say to other viewers is make sure you push the little tab down on the top of the wire harness or you will not get it unplugged. Other than that minor issue it took me 10 minutes and $36 for the part to fix it.
Thanks for the video! Just tackled this job earlier today on our 2010 Escape. Purchased the new resistor at NAPA for $22. Getting those two screws out is a real pain in the behind. I didn't have a small enough ratchet, so I had to use a basic 8mm wrench. Still got it done, but it took about an hour. Not much room to work in that space behind the glove box! In any event, thanks again for the great video! Saved a ton of money and time not having to take the car to someone else!
Wow I'm embarrassed how easy it was to do? Love my escape now for speaker upgrade myself think I'll by mechanical coveralls to celebrate you saved me lots bro!
Mim3sisCurt So easy I did it in the parking lot of te pizza place I stopped at after buying the part. I was done with the repair before my pizza was ready!
Thank you so much.. mine is a 2011 model and had to take a screwdriver to get the wires off, but after that exactly how your video shows, and you made me and my wife laugh so much watching it
I just replaced my transistor and it works beautifully for $22. It's a little harder getting those screws out from that angle, especially as a right-hander. Thanks for your help!!!
Thank you for the video. I had a similar problem on my 2010 Escape. I'm glad the 8mm socket worked for you, my Escape required a 5/16" socket. Removing the screw was difficult because of the location, but with only 2 to take out all the rest was a breeze. Couldn't have done it without this video - thanks!
thanks for posting this video on how to figure out the very same issue I am going through. I thought it was the climate control panel, but nope! I appreciate your help man!!
Loved the video. Wicked funny and helpful. I have had to replace these frequently on my F150s and now apparently they are consistently crappy cause the Escapes have the same issue. I love my Fords aside from this though.
the 2011 is more to the right, and higher. The socket dropped in the back. I broke the "little tabby thing" on the plug, but it did not hurt replacing the part and working. Thanks for the video, it was great. took about 30 minutes, b/c I had to get the socket out - and lucky to reach it!
Curtis! Thank you for posting! My blower is busted and with the impending New England winter imma need a replacement. This seems pretty simple so I'll try it today or tomorrow when it's supposed to be warm.
Thank you - thank you - thank you. You nailed it. You may not be a mechanic but this was so easy I couldn't believe it. Really appreciate the video and a bunch of my friends appreciate it as well - went exactly as you showed. Got the correct part from the dealership - 10 minutes work. Took me longer to find the right socket for the screws than it took the do the work. Awesome!
Thanks for the video. So far, I had only lost low speed on the fan, but thats the one I use the most (once vehicle is warmed up). I purchased a BWD/Carquest replacement for $25.98 with tax. Maybe could have gotten it cheaper online, but didn't want to wait. I got the new one in, along with one of the screws. I'll put the other in when it warms up in a couple days (its 10 degrees out there now, and I don't have a garage). It did help knowing ahead of time what size socket I needed, and that a short or stubby ratchet was preferred. Works fine!
Can you tell me what the AC issue was? Was air not warm? Our AC did not work for a day, then suddenly began working again. Number 1 does not work on blower. If it will fix both, then it would be worth time to replace.
Hi Curtis! Thank you soooo much for your video!. I bought a brand new part for 52$ (including a 2-yrs warrantee) and the wrench set including the 8mm one for 20$ . Then I replaced the part according to your instructions in 12 minutes! I saved a lot of money and I improved my skills in mechanics! lol! You rock!!
Thanks for the video, the "can do" attitude and the fact that after watching it I got my fan back into operation for $15 and 15 minutes of work vs. ~$300 I would have shelled out to the Auto Dealership to do same.
Great explanation with detail, I have the same problem on my 2010 Escape, only speed # 3 & 4 is working nothing on # 1 or 2. I will follow your instructions to get there, witch I think is easy. Thank you.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks. I bought the part "Motorcraft YH-23" on Amazon.ca (sold by Hires Auto Parts) for $34.03 + $9.82 shipping for a total of $43.83 CDN. To fit properly I had to drill out the two un-drilled corners using 3/16" drill bit. Other than that, exactly as this video describes. Took about 15-20 minutes to do.
Thanks man, mechanic was going to charge just $65 to look at it, saved a whole lot more by finding your video. Wife thinks I'mma champ now. We in Texas too. Had to get it taken care of instead of spending $100. Thanks again man
Glad I help you up that hubby game!

David Noel Glad to help out!!!!!!
Quoted me $250 while doing a recall on the car.
And the dealer already knows the problem is a 15 minute fix!
Fantastic. Curtis, thank you for posting this video. I'm a 52 year old women and besides having some trouble getting the screws out it worked like a charm. I'm sure you saved me hundreds.

R Thulasi Haha.... them mechanics and their silly shenanigans!!!!
Thanks for sharing this video. Saved me at least a $99 diagnostic fee + whatever they charge for labor on this. A lot easier than I anticipated.
jjfinley4 Glad to make life easier!!!!
So happy to find this again, blower resistor went after 3 years. Will be changing it again. Thank you!
Yea mine has gone three times.
Hey Curtis, your instructions were absolutely correct. Oh hey now, good to hear der!
Thank you!!!! The dealership wanted to charge me $200 for this!! Outrageous when it takes 10 mins and the part is $20!
Pretty easy fix and glad this helped.

Awesome, glad to hear!
Thanks so much! This solved the problem. Glad you mentioned the 8mm. Picked up a cheap wrench set for $7 so I had the right tool for the job!
SWEET!
Thanks a million, Curtis. I purchased the new resistor for $27.97 at a local parts store. I had a little trouble getting the power connector off, but it eventually wiggled free. +thejusticewarrior Yea the AC kills it over and over again!
You are the reason people love the internet!! Thank you, your simple tutorial saved me over $100!!! You are awesome!!!
Thanks!
Perfect! I figured I'd be pulling out and replacing the whole climate control panel. You saved me a little grief.
A little goes a long way!
Excellent video!!! This was the exact issue with my 2011 Escape today. A $20 part and a little elbow grease and it's working perfectly! Thanks for the excellent and easy tutorial!
Glad it worked out for you Val!

5 minute $19 fix. Thanks for the simple instructions. That had to be easiest fix in the history of car maintenance for such a major function.
+yostevo42 That is for sure!

Hey Curtis! Thanks for the video. It saved my dad (who fixes my car) a whole lot of time and effort and saved me money. Thank you!
Perfection!
Thanks brotha!!! Just bought a 2011 Escape for my daughter from a family friend. Only speeds 3&4 worked. Your video gave me the confidence to fix it myself. True, I used a small 8mm socket, only took me 15 minutes in total. I am glad I found this video.
Yea it is hard to get to, especially with no socket wrenches
citrano2012 Yea, I made this vid because I couldn't find one. Had to put the pieces together.
Mim3sisCurt Epic man, you rule all.
You are the best!!! 😀I fixed my 2010. escape for 15$. Ford dealership asked 130$ just to see what is the problem. I love you man. 😁
No Boris, you are the best!
Wow I'm embarrassed how easy it was to do? Love my escape now for speaker upgrade myself think I'll by mechanical coveralls to celebrate you saved me lots bro!
It is a very easy fix even for us normies!
Curtis...Great video..fixed my daughter's heater this weekend!
Glad to help sir.
Perfect. My exact problem and this was a super easy to follow video with all the tedious screw turning edited out.
Glad this made it easy for you!
Mim3sisCurt So easy I did it in the parking lot of te pizza place I stopped at after buying the part. I was done with the repair before my pizza was ready!
Nathan Gambino HAHAHAHA
Curtis, thank you for sharing this easy fix! Easily saved me $200+!
Woot Woot!
Thank you so much.. mine is a 2011 model and had to take a screwdriver to get the wires off, but after that exactly how your video shows, and you made me and my wife laugh so much watching it
Glad you two had a good laugh!
Thank you for your video. This was exactly my problem and your video made it very easy to fix. Was finished in 15 minutes.
Great!
I didn't have the 8MM socket, but was able to get the bolts in and out with a 5/16. Thanks for the video!
Glad to help
Less than $20 and 20 minutes to fix. Thank you!
No prob!
I just replaced my transistor and it works beautifully for $22. It's a little harder getting those screws out from that angle, especially as a right-hander. Thanks for your help!!!
It is a pain but glad it worked!
Glad to help out sir!
thanks for posting this video on how to figure out the very same issue I am going through. I thought it was the climate control panel, but nope! I appreciate your help man!!
No problem, glad to help out!
Loved the video. Wicked funny and helpful. I have had to replace these frequently on my F150s and now apparently they are consistently crappy cause the Escapes have the same issue. I love my Fords aside from this though.
wow, I hope I don't have to replace it frequently, I have 2010 Escape with almost 110K miles on it and want it tolast.
Thanks for showing how easy this was to do. Literally 5 minutes work and a $25 part and my issues are fixed!
Perfect!
Just fixed my 2009 escaped with your help. Thanks for all the money saved!
Brandon Woller I am curious as to how much at this point!
the 2011 is more to the right, and higher. The socket dropped in the back. I broke the "little tabby thing" on the plug, but it did not hurt replacing the part and working. Thanks for the video, it was great. took about 30 minutes, b/c I had to get the socket out - and lucky to reach it!
well cool, glad it worked out!
Tried this today worked like a charm! The worst part was getting the screws out and in again. Other than that very simple! Thanks for the magic.
whoo hoo
Very helpful, just did this in a few min thanks to this video. Thank you very much.
+wynder02 No prob bob!
Thank You Curtis!! You just saved me $$ and time. It kills me to take my vehicle in for little piddly stuff. Yes, even I can do this.
+Christine McCready Glad to help!
Curtis! Thank you for posting! My blower is busted and with the impending New England winter imma need a replacement. This seems pretty simple so I'll try it today or tomorrow when it's supposed to be warm.
It is, good luck!
I did this before on another car, but wanted to double check myself. Great help. Thanks.
No problem
Thank you - thank you - thank you. You nailed it. You may not be a mechanic but this was so easy I couldn't believe it. Really appreciate the video and a bunch of my friends appreciate it as well - went exactly as you showed. Got the correct part from the dealership - 10 minutes work. Took me longer to find the right socket for the screws than it took the do the work. Awesome!
Pat Savelli Glad to help Pat!!!!
Thank You - the hardest part was getting to the resistor board (behind the glove box).
Agreed!
Had the same problem occur this week, purchased and installed the part this morning. Everything works again. Thanks so much for posting!
Glad to help!
Thanks! Just did this today. It worked perfectly. Took me about 15 mins.
Boom, it is that easy!
Used your video tonight and did my own part swap!! thanks for making the video.
No prob Stephanie, have a good one!
Perfect!!! Thanks for the heads up!!! Worked out smoothly since I saw your video
Awesome!
Great demo. That's exactly what mine is doing. Going to go out right away and get the part. Thanks, didn't know it'd be that easy.
Grant Crosbie That was easy!
Works fine!
Sweet!
Watched your video, went out got the part and bam! within an hour I was back up and running ---- Thanks!
Awesome!
Awesome, this helped me get this done in 15 minutes. Thanks a ton! I used a 5/16" socket to get my 2 screws out.
I am more of a metric man but thanks as I don't know the English conversions.
This worked great! Thanks for taking the time to do this! 25$ and 20 min all is well
Sometimes it is just that simple!
Finally, a video that actually makes sense. Thanks dude
No problem man!
I had this problem and it worked. Thanks Curtis!!!
Boom!
good video! this totally solved my problem. purchased the resistor for $35 CND at my local part store
+Philippe Tremblay where?
Napa Auto parts
+Philippe Tremblay Awesome!
Replacing the blower motor resistor also fixed the AC issue I was having. Thanks!
Can you tell me what the AC issue was? Was air not warm? Our AC did not work for a day, then suddenly began working again. Number 1 does not work on blower. If it will fix both, then it would be worth time to replace.
Awesome!
Hopefully it it worked out!
Thanks so much for taking the time to share and me a saving a trip to dealership...and the money!
Cha Ching!

Hi Curtis! Thank you soooo much for your video!. I bought a brand new part for 52$ (including a 2-yrs warrantee) and the wrench set including the 8mm one for 20$ . Then I replaced the part according to your instructions in 12 minutes! I saved a lot of money and I improved my skills in mechanics! lol! You rock!!
Sounds like you are the true rockstar!
thank you for making it a doable project saves time and money good luck
Thanks!
Thank you! this is exactly the problem with mine, only #4 works. Going to get the part tomorrow.
Beta247 BOOM!
Thanks for the video, the "can do" attitude and the fact that after watching it I got my fan back into operation for $15 and 15 minutes of work vs. ~$300 I would have shelled out to the Auto Dealership to do same.
Damn right!
Excellent. 5 minute fix just like the video...thanks
No shenanigans here!
Just replaced mine and probably saved a bunch of money. Thank you

Worked beautifully for my 2009 Escape. :)
+Olaf Alders Awesome!
Great explanation with detail, I have the same problem on my 2010 Escape, only speed # 3 & 4 is working nothing on # 1 or 2. I will follow your instructions to get there, witch I think is easy. Thank you.
the same with my 2011, speeds 1 and 2. Must be a factory defect
That was exactly what it was. Thanks for helping .
me save some money:;-)
Cha Ching!
I think it is due to condesation leaking onto it. I have had to replace 3 so far...
+Brent Oliver Glad to help!
