    Wow nice job!!! Not many people have the skill set let alone the patience and determination to pull off such an extensive restoration. I doubt many restoration shops would have put the care and detail into the job that you did. I wouldn't even hazard a guess at what that restoration would have cost to have someone do. You should be very proud of that awesome boat. Hope your family enjoys it for generations!!

      Thank you so much for the kind words! It was a bunch of work, but a labor of love. Very cool to have the family boat going agin. I get to see my father barefoot agin and now I get to pull my nephew water skiing. It cost me a good chunk even doing it myself. But I couldn’t replace it for what I have into it.

    • @spinedoc893
      @spinedoc893 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TNels I'm not sure you could even replace that boat if heaven forbid something catastrophic were to happen to it. You'd not likely ever find one in that condition for any price. My guess is you'd have to buy another used one and do it again. Does your insurance have an appraised value on it? If they just use the book value of a 1977 hydrostream you'd likely get less than you have in it!

    • @TNels
      @TNels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that I wouldn't find another one in this shape. If something were to happen I would have to build a new one. Thankfully I have an agreed value policy on the boat. I was very diligent on keeping track of receipts throughout the build so I set the value a little above that.

    What awesome work and attention to detail. Boat looks amazing. Is the paddles on the steering wheel for the trim.
    I’m finishing up the last bit of fiberglass work on my boat today. Worked well into the night last night. Probably going to put it in the water for a test run this weekend. I still have tons of work to do on the final details. Gel coat , carpet and a little bit of electrical. Not major. My boat hasn’t seen the water since 2002. Paid 400 bucks for it. Can’t wait to see your boat in the water.

    • @TNels
      @TNels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yes the paddles are switch’s for trim and jack plate. They work really slick. They’re from Uflex, if you’re running a sea star helm you’ll need to make an adapter plate, but it can be done pretty easy. Good luck with your test run! 02 was the last time I was in this boat in the water.

    I see them plates on your wall are you in the Twin Cities? I have a Viper I will be restoring next year. Unfortunately I run a dealership out here in Wisconsin but have unlimited Supply parts for these old boat motors. If you catch yourself in a jam I may have what you're looking for and great build you do good work man

    • @TNels
      @TNels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir, just a little north of the cities. Good luck on the rebuild, I picked up a Vector and will be doing the same thing over agin. Good to know about the parts you have, I put a '98 225 ProMax on this boat now. But I still have the vintage 2.0 V6 that I'll put on the Vector.

    A genuine question: How many nights a week do you spend in the garage past ten pm?

    • @TNels

    Sorry… again… no information. At all. Nobody knows what engine is on it. Or why there are blue tubes going to it. Or what any of that wiring for 15 minutes was about, or all of the seat base building… nobody had any idea what the hell was happening. Couldn’t see that you were applying registration stickers, had no idea what the plaque was on the dash, or what you spent the next five minutes installing on the right side. Did you install your steering wheel with caulk? Lube? No idea. Why did you look confused when tightening the wheel on? Were you setting torque? No one would know that. People who aren’t on our level of experience won’t gain anything from it, and people who are, are just watching you do what we’ve already done numerous times… yes, you’re doing a good job. But nobody understands why, unless they’ve already mastered it…
