    Super good! One of the best I-Mac tutorials ever! I agree It is better than iFixit. You got it down and done right! Thank you very much! Got any ideas about CUP replacement for Imac 21.5 Mid 2010?

      Do you know if the SATA cable for the hard drive can be replaced without having to remove the motherboard? If I just removed the fan on the right side and superdrive can the SATA cable be reached and removed?
      From what I understand if you have one of the Dual Core Intel CPUs then you are able upgrade the CPU.

      @@LordToxygene I have the dual core inside my old iMac 21" 2009; I'm still searching for logic boards with modern CPUs that can support the Mac; so that I can use the latest OSX on it. 😄

    My 21.5 mid 2011 iMac went completely dead and would not power up at all. I took it to the Apple store and was told it might be the power supply. As it turned out, they told me the logic board is bad and would cost $650.00 to replace. I found a replacement board for $30.00, followed your video instructions and just wanted to say thanks. Great directions that saved me a ton of money. Best tutorial I've seen!

    I have been fixing Windows based laptops and MacBook Pros for a few years but never tackled an iMac. I picked up an 09 for 75 bucks and followed your great video. I found a logic board for 49 bucks. Took my time and everything works fantastic. Thank you for your great instructions.

    One simple safety measure, that nobody shows on these videos, is to take a small pillow and stuff it underneath the monitor so it's jammed against the stand and the back side of the monitor.........this tilts the monitor back, so it can't drop forward when you're removing the screen. If the screen drops forward it will yank all of the cables out from their connectors, and your imac is toast!
    Oh yeah, and if you're gonna attempt to disassemble one of these machines, after removing the power lead you should push and hold the power button for at least a minute, so the power capacitors drain any residual charge. You should also wear tight fitting surgical gloves and an anti static wrist band to prevent any potential damage to the components.
    This is all basic stuff that nobody ever mentions.....just my two cents.

    Our 2011 iMac would not start up so we took it to a reputable Mac shop. Apple repair shop diagnosed bad logic board. They tried a new video card in the shop and that did not work.
    So, we personally ordered a new logic board online and installed it by following your EXCELLENt video. The main thing different about our computer was a big metal flag-shaped part that we transferred to the new logic board (the silver "flag" portion was just above the CD ROM drive.) We also had two more cables than you to connect on the back side of the logic board.
    Now, we can hear the proper start-up tone but the screen remains black and then the fan kicks on within a minute. We are able to press esc. on the keyboard and it beeps and we can control the volume of that beep via volume controls on keyboard. Seems like we have made progress since the startup sound did not previously occur before we installed the new logic board. We tried safe boot and the response was the same as noted above. Any chance we just didn't hook up the screen properly? Suggestions?
    We want to keep this computer because we put a solid state drive in this year as well as additional RAM. It has also had video card replaced in the past. thank you

      Ok so sounds like one of the following has a connection issue/broken or wrong part for the logicboard replacement, 1. LCD Inverter board, 2. LCD Panel, 3. Graphics card Unit (some imacs for onboard graphics so no card). If it's not a simple issue like the power cables behind the lcd are not plugged in correctly then I would start replacing those parts the that order.

    Thanks for the simple and easy to follow video! SEEKING ADVICE!
    I found a late 2009 iMac 21" at the recycling center in my town. I originally just wanted the RAM cards from it, considering I do not know how to repair computers at all. When I got it home, I tried starting it up, but I got nothing. Although it didn't rain, there was probably some condensation/water damage that occurred. Did a few google searches and went down that rabbit hole. One LED diagnostic light remains on. I removed the logic board thanks to this video, and the coin battery on the back does seem a bit corroded. I'm thinking the slight corrosion on the coin battery is an indication of other areas that may be damaged. And say I go ahead, and order a new logic board, I'm not even sure if that was the problem in the first place. It was fun to pull this apart and learn a bit, but the RAM cards is enough of a victory for me. It's just seems like such a shame to throw away such a beautiful looking iMac. Asking this question is really my final attempt at wondering if I should dive any deeper here, but does anyone have an idea if this is a logic board issue, or if I should just chuck this and save the RAM??

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have one diagnostic light on that means the logic board is most likely fine and all you have to do is replace the power supply. Some thing like this www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-iMac-21-5-A1311-2009-2010-2011-205W-Power-Supply-661-5299-614-0445-/262628800550?hash=item3d25e57826:g:E6EAAOSwB09YIGZ~
      My bet is that will fix it.

    Thanks for your video. I successfully replaced the logic board. I recommend attaching stickers to wires and labeling or taking photos so it’s easy to put back in reverse. I drew a schematic for the screws and this sped everything up. I had to look at photos because I also forgot what side logic board went and what order screen and frame go on.

    The true Wayne is that watching at your tutorial becomes very easy to follow, since you described, basically every cable by its own name, I could figure it out what my problem could be, as you mentioned different sensors that works to control temperature. My case started today with a big noise in the fan located behind the logic board, before to listen those fans, you had to get very close to the computer, now I can hear it from every where, at the same time the bluetooth card stops working, this two events at the same time makes me wonder if there is a temperature sensor damaged, so to find out witch one is the one with the problem, I'm planning to change them all ( if I'm able to find them).
    I'll post my experience when I finished with the job to let you know how did it goes using your guidance.
    Thank you for your excellent work!

      +Guillermo Estrada Sounds good. Just to give you a heads up, I understand that the blue tooth might have to be replaced regardless (could just be disconnected), but give this a try first. Download www.macupdate.com/app/mac/47386/macs-fan-control This fan control app and manually lower each fan to see which one is responsible for the noise, this will give you an idea where to start. If it's your personal computer then the software might be a solution, if it's for a client then replace the sensors, there are 3 (Hard Drive, CPU Fan, Optical Drive) any one can cause the others to malfunction as the temperature will change in the entire iMac if one is bad.

      We're you getting the purple and green squares? I think I need to replace my logic board unless that will fix it. Mine is a 27" iMac. It freezes up constantly from what seems like overheating, but for a few weeks with no issues the fan ran at full speed and then died I think. Now need a new fan and fix logic or graphics card.

      +Save Apple Dollars Hi, and I hope these few suggestions will be helpful.
      1. The black logic board is hard to see. I think some extra lighting, especially showing the connectors, would be great.
      2. I laid the iMac on its back to remove and reinstall the 8 T10 screws.
      3. I put the logic board screws on sticky painters tape in the order that they were removed. Reversed the process for reinstallation. Took the guess work out of it.
      4. The IR sensor fits onto a plastic post.
      5. Need to reapply the foil tape on the copper heat sink to the housing.(Don't know if necessary)
      Overall, you did an excellent job and I hope that my suggestions will be of use to you.

    Do you know about the "video card pressure wall" and could you describe where it should be positioned? While removing the logic board from my iMac (mid-2010 21.5" A1311 model) in order to replace the backup battery, the small, black plastic part fell out. I haven't been able to work out where it goes. It's made of the same black plastic as the power supply pressure wall but much smaller with just one screw hole. The Apple Technician Guide mentions it in the list of instructions for installing a new logic board. However, it doesn't show where the part should be positioned.

    I know it may be old, but I have a 27" iMac emc 2390. It's had purple/green squares on the screen for a few years, but for some reason the fan kicked it in at full speed and ran fine for a few weeks. Now I think the fan died and it seems like it overheats and has obvious graphics card issues. Any idea what the best fix for that would be? Will be reading through the comments, but I just watched a bunch of CompTIA A+ videos and want to see if it's fixable. It worked great for years, and I now have a tool kit for this. Just figuring out what I need to do before attempting it.

    I'm installing a 2.5" HD (with 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket, installed where the original HD would be), & an SSD as my boot drive installed directly underneath it. (Rather than restricting airflow past the DVD drive & GPU.)

      Unfortunately even though the form factors are close, other parts sensors and connectors are different on many logic board models. Your best bet it to solder the LCD connector if you can. Also keep in mind depending on your budget, you can buy a working iMac with a broken LCD same year and just swap it out. Here is an example for %150: www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-iMac-A1311-MB950LL-A-Core-2-Duo-3-06GHz-2GB-RAM-No-HDD-Bad-LCD-No-Glass-/131945404765?hash=item1eb88f195d:g:3R8AAOSw6n5Xr1Zc

    Can I Change My Late 2009 21.5" iMac logic board with Late 2009 27" iMac Logic board?

    I took off the motherboard to replace the graphics card but when i put everything back together the screen doesn't turn on but the computer seems to be running. Which plug makes the screen work? Did I miss it, or did I just ruin my computer?

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Several cables. The lcd screen has 3 cables, one power, one lvds data, and one temp sensor. If all three are plugged in but no cigar on the video output, you either have to reseat the graphics card or the replacement is bad and have to exchange it. I know it’s ridiculous having to replace the board possibly 3 times but that’s just what comes with troubleshooting an iMac.

      @@GRIBSOFT Ok Thanks for replying. And do you know if it's normal for the first 3 green LED lights to come on and the 4th one to be off on the motherboard?

    Help! I have a A1311 2009. Power checks on logistic board. Pin 4 12v Pin 11 gets 12v when I hit the power button but no LED 2 light. Also no signal power on pin 12 when I press the power button. What and how do you take measurements of a signal power?? Disconnected all plugs one at a time. No fix. Also what is that battery on the logistics board? Can that be dead. What is its purpose? Thanks!

      that looks like the cmos battery normally controls the bios settings of the machine like time and date should read over 3volt ,if dead or reads 3 volt or lower just replace as these are cheap,i had a pc few years ago that would not boot up but just changing the bios battery got that one to life

    Hi- I found a 2008 Imac in a dumpster and plugged it in and the screen flashed on and then flashed right off again. It's barely even scratched other than that. It;s got bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the original box. Do you think it's worth trying to save? What would cause it to flash on and then off again. Power supply. Thanks for the great video!

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's an aluminum one then yes, it's worth saving. You have to take off the front face and right bellow the LCD there are 4 LED indicators (d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/3n5DFiXP1P3YrQDG) use the indicators to find out if the graphics card is bad. When power cord is plugged in, 1st LED is lit. After pressing the power button LED 1 and 2 should be on, then the 3rd LED should also light up after 3 seconds, if the 3rd one lights up the graphics card is good and the LCD is bad and needs replacing, if you replace the LCD and still have issues then replace the power supply and you should be set. If the 3rd LED never lights up then the graphics card needs replacement. To give you an idea, it's one of these 3 parts and prices are approximate market prices: LCD $50-100, power supply $20-80, graphics card $50-120. If you take your time and read up on things you can save this unit at around $100 or less and it will be a great machine to last a few more years with a small HDD and RAM upgrade. Good luck ;)

    Hi. I ripped the vertical sync flex/ribbon cable. If I used the iMac without that, would that be ok or it'd damage the iMac?
    Also, when I power the iMac, there are fans and the hard disk spins but there's nothing on the screen and there's no chime. It's an 8 year old iMac. Will changing the PRAM battery make it boot again? I bought an Energizer CR2032 battery.

    Hi.
    I have a macbook pro mid 2012 13" core i5 that was recently water damaged.
    I decided to send to iStore to repair it but finally they told me that I need to get another logic board with model number A1278,
    The question is how much risk exist if I swap my logic board i5 to logic board i7 13" 2012 mid, both are the same model number A1278, Do you recommend doing this?
    Thank you!!

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No risk at all, if it fit's it will work perfectly. Mac OS X detects new hardware up on startup and modifies all the kexts (drivers) to new hardware every time you cold boot your Mac.

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please not that after water damage, the first problem is the keyboard. The logic board can be good but the Mac won't power on because the power button rail that is part of the keyboard is bad. Look at this guide ( www.insidemylaptop.com/turn-on-macbook-pro-laptop-without-power-button-locating-power-on-pads/ ), plug a charger into your mac and open the rear panel, try to short the power pins and see if it starts. If it does, then you need a keyboard replacement, apple will always call a kb replacement a logic board replacement.

      You will not loose data as Apple uses DSDT booting so it will load the profile for the new board with all previous data on the hard disk unchanged.

    Hey quick question my I mac won't turn on at all took it to a shop they replaced the power supply board and that didn't work. I pulled my imac from the shop to repair it myself. I'm thinking it's the video card, what do you think? Or logic board?

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are the fans spinning? If so then it's 1.LCD or 2. Video inverter or 3. graphics card in that order, if the fans don't spin then it's the logicboard or the power supply replacement is also bad.

      You will have to replace your Graphics card. It's the issue. In safe mode the graphics driver is not loaded and so it can start on a generic driver, that's why it can boot up. You will need to purchase a Radeon HD 4850 for imac on ebay.

    Hi, Do you know if a replacement logic board has to be the exact same processor speed? I have a 2.4ghz 24" MA878LL with a dead board, and i've found a board for the 3.06ghz 24" which has the same a1225 model number. Would this work? Thanks

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +iblake12 It should fit no problem, I believe everything should transfer, even the ddr2 ram and ati graphics card. Make sure that it's not the graphics card or the power supply that's dead. You can do this by removing the front shield and plugging in the power cord. You will see 4 led lights in the front bottom right side of the logic board, right under the LCD. If you see 1 green light and after pressing the power button, if the second green light comes on then the logic board and the power supply are fine. If the 3rd led light comes on then the graphics is fine and the lcd is broken. when everything works all 4 lights come on. This is a built in test used by Apple to diagnose that models issues.

    • @iblake12
      @iblake12 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Save Apple Dollars I have heard of this before, honestly I don't know if it's the gpu or the logic board, it boots halfway with lots of artefacts and then dies and attempts to boot again. So my guess is logic board?
