Man, when i just look at all the dead insects on my helmet i really wouldn't wanna ride without a visor, rip those guys
On the other hand:
Hey, free bonus protein… 🤪
Totally
Not only insects, on 16 years of riding I've hit two birds. One of them with my helmet.
Your comment reminds me of a line from a novelty song, "Speedball, the Wild Motorcyclist." "Say, how do you know he's happy? Say, by the bugs on his teeth!"

Went down at around 85 on 635 in DFW. A buddy and I both were swiped by an suv jumping lanes. I was wearing a riding jacket with a spine protector, gloves, helmet, jeans and boots. He was in a tshirt and jeans with tennis shoes. He looked like a bloody avocado afterwards and spent a day in the hospital while they picked asphalt and gravel out of his back, arms and butt . I had bruises and a limp. Each to their own.
Living in DFW I genuinely cannot fathom riding without protective gear, I see at least one wreck on 35E every day during my commute
@@jugheadjones2588 Darwinism in action. DFW is a meat grinder from 3-7 five nights a week.
I live in the area as well and I'll second what you both are saying. 35 and 30 are both wreck printing machines. Thankfully it's mostly cagers hitting other cagers.
DFW here, also. I wish I could count the number of times someone has gotten too close to me in their car/truck and I’m looking at them looking down at their phone. Pretty much everybody.
i assume he stopped riding or uses ALL the gear after this mishap
Had a car drive into me two months ago, boots absolutely saved my right foot. My frame got dented but I only got off with a swollen foot for a month and no fracture. Absolutely recommend good gear.
12:47 if you can afford full gear, get your girl some gear too
She lost her wallet?
Very accurate video. Ive been riding for almost 50 yrs. These days between the pot heads who smoke driving, the idiots on their phones and civilization pushing no brain deer to every road, you better damn well wear good gear.
snell is no longer the best standard, ece 22.06 is. snell was originally created with car racing in mind and the methodologies are flawed, it focuses on shell rigidity and singular impact protection but does little to factor in lateral or angular impacts and actually prevent concussions and brain injuries inside your skull.
I agree
Yup ECE 22.06 is the best
Isn't FIM ? The moto gp standard or something?
@@chas30012001 yes but those are few and far between to get and they cost a fortune
@@chas30012001FIM is definitely the most rigorous standard. But boy oh boy are they expensive.. A huge jump above an EC rated lid
when i first started riding i only wore a cheap helmet, alpinestar bionic armour and basic leather gloves with standard jeans and workboots, i lowsided at 55kmph and that was when i learned full gear is important. now i wear a full jacket, gloves with sliders, a nicer helmet aswell as riding boots and kevlar jeans. currently my gear is worth more than twice what my bike is, i got my bike 2nd hand for 600AUD, my gear is 1500AUD
Good callout on earplugs. Earplugs are key. When I first started riding I never wore them because my bike wasn’t loud, then I started getting swimmer’s ear. I wear them now and my hearing is okay.
I just passed my test and now I see this prefect timing Yammie
I never wore earplugs... eventually you wont hear loud noises anymore... or the quiet ones.
The angel of deaf has claimed this one
What? @@Sheenifier
Depends on the bike. If you have a huge touring screen on an adventure or touring motorcycle earplugs are not needed. For those who ride naked bikes without earplugs are a must .
I wont do moduler anymore. Buddy went down two weeks ago and it snapped open. He is good, just a broken nose and a couple cuts (9 stitches total) full face is the only way I'll go. Gear also saved him from further injury. Gear is definitely worth it
And what's really fkd about it. Even high end brands swear that their modular helmets are _just_ as good as full face.
Bulllllspiiit. More moving parts means more prone hazards. I don't care if it's a throwaround helmet. I'd take every precaution that I can to keep my lid safe.
@@yeejay6396 facts! I yeeted my spare helmet that was a modular immediately at the ground after my buddies accident. Aint no way I'm touching another one of those again! Plus they're stupid heavy
These videos are always good reminders. Thx Yam!!
Perfect timing I'm looking into getting my first bike!!
Haven’t got the bike yet but you’re a big help on what I need
Great vid yammie
Getting bugs in the mouth is not a pleasant experience unless you’re into that sort of thing!!! However, I do wear half helmets but only when I’m doing slow practices with cones in my backyard! The one piece of gear that I notice a lot of to riders don’t use is the earplugs! It’s either earplugs now or hearing aids later!!! I won’t leave home without them. I love all of my gear and it looks killer! Thanks for this most important video. 👍
What if you already have hearing aids...
@@olsirmonkey Turn down the volume! 👍
Or buy a newer Triumph Tiger! Quietest bike I've ever owned. My Thruxton w/fairing and 14 cbr500r demand earplugs. Way better cruising with plugs.
I keep a pair of earplugs on my riding jacket at all times. I have my earplug case attached to the pocket flap. Yes it looks derpy but I can still hear.
Love the outro... thanks man
Forgot being seen. High vis colors and white helmets do more in saving you than a lot of things. Be seen stay safe. Way too many people in all black. Ya I know it’s cool
Totally went down on my dirt bike and broke my foot and got "road rash" on my left forearm. Heading towards that ATGATT lifestyle on my road bike
Just bought my rockform you are welcome!
NICELY DONE 🎉😮
Arai helmets are the best for me! The new contour X is so comfortable!!! THE most comfortable helmet i have worn! But of course my head-shape is round oval!
Yoooooo what’s good yammie
Im early to a yam video!? My life is officially on track 😂
😂😂 I’m literally on the toilet rn!!
I do understand what he's saying about wearing a helmet. I've always felt that the helmets with the drop-down sunshade don't have the same solid integrity as a regular helmet because of that space
Full face helmet all the time. I crashed once and after looking at my helmet, I would of been 2 face without it!
Ear plugs are really underrated. Thanks
love the classical music xD
Whenever I buy gloves, if they fit on the showroom floor and feel tight they are the right fit as they will break in and get softer over time.
Don't think I'll ever wear an open face-helmet again. Had some sort of huge bug hit me right on the tip of my nose at Autobahn-speeds a few years ago and while I didn't suffer any permanent damage, the experience was quite unpleasant and you don't want to be hit by massive pain in your face at 100 mph on a motorcycle.
On another occasion I had a wasp fly right into my sleeve because I was wearing a loose fitting jacket on that particular day. I only had a t-shirt on underneath it and luckily the critter didn't sting me, but it might have - which is also something I wouldn't want to experience while riding at speed. Plus the panic induced by seeing a wasp slam into your sleeve wasn't really helpful while trying to concentrate on the road.
Lastly, I did lose my bike in a tight corner years and years ago, resulting in a low-sider and getting dragged for 10 or 20 meters or so with my leg stuck underneath the bike. I was wearing full leathers, proper boots and a helmet (no body armor back then) and all I suffered was a sore elbow and hip bone plus some bruises to one side of my body (and to my ego). My girlfriend OTOH was only wearing a helmet, short-shorts and a sleeveless top and her leg looked like it had been hit with bird-shot from all the gravel she picked up when she slid on the pavement. Funnily enough, even the bike suffered way less damage than her - the only parts that were scratched was the very tip of the throttle-grip and a tiny spot on one of the two tail-pipes.
Airbag vest!
Love the Yam format and the presentation though I would prefer that from the helmet they get gloves first and then some sort of knee guard since most beginners will start with slow speed crushes by the way except for second hand bikes but in the US doesn't every new bike come with a helmet? I guess that's another good reason to start on a smaller cC disposable bike you can get your fit on the first day
> but in the US doesn't every new bike come with a helmet?
definitely not, it's the land of the free, not the land of the free helmet
@@wlonkly 🤣🤣🤣" not the land of the free helmet" But also it is sad in mily country it's like every new bike comes with a helmet ( my current one came with gloves and a reflector vest ) on the flip side the quality of helmets is terrible all 3 are at home barely used
@@wlonkly I think that they some how integrate it into the price, I don't that it's free, did I mention the doubling if a vehicle price where I leave?
@@tjey379 no, aside from maybe a promotion or sale, people just buy helmets. heck, there are states where helmets aren't even required
I struggle with the jacket. I want to wear one but when it’s 90+ degrees in the shade, it basically sucks. I’ve tried over a dozen jackets.
Man 89 degrees must be unbearable
Lol. That's cute.
89 degrees is a dream come true
First of all my cargo shorts are iimpact resistant! 😂
I got my boots gloves and helmet! I want to get a jacket and summer jacket
Yup... Learn it the hard way... 😅🤣🤣🤣
The coldest place on earth can get down to 89 degrees Fahrenheit 😱
Okay. Hear me out.
I am a new rider and I am by no means rich, so when it comes to gear and looking for good value with my money. I have a great helmet, great boots, and great gloves. But I cannot for the life of my find a reasonably priced jacket that is worth the money... I've decided to skip it FOR NOW, I will get one at a later point but for now I think the jacket is the least important out of the 4
No love for motorcycle pants then, lol
Why did you have to call me out like that watching the video while on the toilet 😅
We're can I get boots in large (16/17 US) ?
I wish I could order from the site too bad I can’t
If i get a helmet with good noise reduction are earplugs still necessary? I ask because my ears produce more wax than normal and if i wear ear plugs they will push that wax further in and i'll have to get that cleaned out by a doctor. I already have and its not fun or cheap.
If your ears produce that much, it's syrup, not wax. j/k Seriously though, do you have to carry cotton swabs around with you everywhere and clean your ears every hour or two? If not, then you should be able to ride with earplugs, and maybe at worst do a quick swab cleaning after each shorter local ride or at each gas stop on longer/touring rides. BTW, the cheap foam plugs (which work surprising well) only cost 11-12 cents per pair in bulk, and the good Howard Leight foam plugs (made by Honeywell, FWIW) are only 14-22 cents per pair depending on type. I'd stay away from the more expensive "form fitting" reusable plugs, as they rarely fit comfortably well and you won't want to clean them so frequently. Just grab a new pair of foam plugs and off you go, literally. 😁
The shoei rf1400 is a pretty quiet helmet. I've never worn earplugs with any of my helmets. I do wear ear buds most of the time though.
Yes earplugs are a must. You will lose hearing over time without earplugs. Guaranteed. My Dr told me so
foam earplugs don't push much in, because they don't slide along the sides of your ears when you insert them. you squish them into a narrow tube and then they expand outwards.
heck if anything they'll pull out some of that wax.
if nothing else, look at silicone plugs, they sit at the entrance to your ear canal instead of going deep inside. less noise reduction but still some. Apple Airpods Pro sit at the entrance too and their noise reduction is good, EXCEPT if the batteries run out then you get full noise mid-ride.
and yeah, a helmet doesn't cut wind noise enough to stop you from damaging your hearing over time.
@@wlonkly careful with the AirPods. They will cause you to lose hearing as well over time. Very limited noise reduction with them off. Almost nothing. On and you will eventually lose hearing. We will have a whole generation with hearing loss with those things
i would get boots but i need a size 16 w2 brooo
Idk if I’m the first to say this but I own a few pieces of dainese gear and for the price I don’t think they’re worth it. The quality control is meh and they really don’t feel like that great of gear compared to alpine stars
Was looking at their boots but they don't get the safety levels of Alpinestars or RST who get straight 2s in their tall boots. Dainese are mostly 1s.
Lmfao I got that icon you edited on that guys head the first 20 seconds in 😂😂 for anyone wondering it’s called” icon rite of mind”
And as far as wearing a jacket, yes it can be hot at lights ,unzip it for a couple dress for the slide not the ride, I had a car hit me last oct and had me in acoma for a month and collapsed both lungs yettt not a scratch 🤷🏽♂️👌🏽😂
Ouch,! Hope your 100 % better now...
Odin gloves rule.
When you go modular helmets you never go back 😁😁👍👍
One thing airbag vest
long live the squids
Im a gear brahh
I’ve been having a hard time finding gloves that fit my hands -.-‘
Any ladies watching have recommendations? My hands are a medium glove and my fingers are a large 😂
Just as a hint, ECE 22.05 ist Out dated, the new ECE 22.06 is a lot safer 👌
hey man how tf did u know i was watching on my phone on the toilet
what if one uses powerlifting gloves instead 😅
are there any other things i can do instead of use earplugs? i really don’t like shoving things in my ears 😅
89 degrees Fahrenheit isn’t that cold 😅
I stg I will be on a bike by next year 😡
He forgot about FIM homlogation for helmets
I guess if you know bout FIM you don't need a tutorial video about gear
"Boetz"²³ ~yammie noob 2023
You forgot the parachute.
The most essential piece of safety equipment is a good set of gloves. They are not a 5th placed afterthought.
Starting to get the feeling my wife is DOT rated 😉
Is the year of manufacture past date yet? If not, keep riding her.
Man said drop tested to “Mikita standards” hate to break it to ya that don’t mean shit lol
Something quite ironic about Yammie giving anything close to safety advice
U omitted pants & airbag vest. Tsk tsk tsk.
2:15 Did anybody else notice the incredibly inappropriate irony of using this clip to promote safety?!?
It should be like that:
1. Helmet
2. Boots
3. Gloves
4. Pants
Theeeeen 5. Jacket
According motorcyclists injures
As low as 89.9 degrees Fahrenheit huh
cup your hand, not cut. damn typos
Thankfully here in WISCONSIN, helmets are NOT required, so I don't even have to waste money on a half helmet!
Wear a full faced helmet. Anything other than that you may as wear nothing at all.
Glad to see someone read the hurt study. Being seen is almost the most important safety topic. Bright colors high vis or white
First view
Biggest safety item is free it’s called common sense number eyes and ears number 3 hands and feet all cost zero but if you lacking in any of the above you will be hurt and this includes all other drivers on the rd

if these losers cant handle a standard bike then they should stick to pedal bike!
What was the point of this video??
Come on, you can do better. 😂
the best function of a helmet is that it allows you to continue to talk to yourself without anyone being any the wiser. i hate helmets.
If you’re that scared please as a rider of motorcycles for over 30 years sell your bike and get a tank for my safety and yours.
