I just learned something new from you today. That I don't always need water to refresh. Last Sunday was wash day and deep conditioning. I had a really great hair day (which doesn't happen often since I'm transitioning, but I noticed that once a week when I deep condition it's the best day of the week). I woke up Monday and thought it's not that bad, but as usual, I used water to wet my hair and scrunch it again. I went to work (my hair takes forever to dry) and when I went to the restroom and saw myself in the mirror. I ruined my good hair from the day before. It was flat and super frizzy and curl pattern was gone. I think that I actually ruined my hair by doing what I did. I need to learn new ways!
So happy I found you and your video channel! I’m new to “wavy-semi curly “and have much to learn. I had no idea there were products available just for us. My hair is also very baby fine and sad to say, it’s also thinning. My hairdresser just cut all my length into a “ cap of curls”, I do like the style but, have no idea how to manage it! Please continue your videos, they are so helpful. I’m much older than most of the young ladies on F.B. They all seem to have a thick, big, beautiful head full. I just need to cover the scalp that shows with my new curls. Tell me....is that your natural color? It is beautiful !! When I was a young girl I had Shirley Temple ringlets, how I wish I had them now! I’m hoping my waves will eventually remember the ringlets. This got very long, sorry. Thanks again.
Haha, I was excited about the element of surprise but almost disappointed it was such a good hair day!! It gives a false representation of what the "unveiling" can be like. I did love my day 2 hair here....but it's not always so good!
Also wanted to add that Medusa Clipping does such a good job at preserving curls overnight that lots of wavy/curlies are getting these kinds of results now!! I don't have to do a more involved refresh until day 4 usually!
please do! my hair is fine and wavy. I am new to curly hair as I had fine, straight hair all my life until menopause. my difficulty lies with products weighing my wave/curls down so they look droopy & greasy. If I go to lighter products- they can be drying on my hair. So the best compromise I can do is alternate each one.
Omg! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Seriously. It’s very difficult to find videos for hair like mine (and yours) and I couldn’t appreciate it more. I have a very difficult time adding ANY product after I style the first time so I can really appreciate your tips.
Well done, your hair looks great! Your explanations are very clear, which is so helpful in understanding your techniques. I too have fine, low density, wavy/curly hair, so thanks for the tips!
So happy to find you! I have the same type fine wavy hair Lovett on wash day second and third day hair is a no no but I'm going to try your fluff! Thank you for sharing I'm going to play a little catch up and watch all your videos 😊
Love your videos. I find them very informative. My hair is wavy and I've just started to go wavy since Dec. It's been more work than I imagined :0 so thanks for your help!
Hey FitKat -- can you do a full first day routine video and show us how you do the techniques, please? I have very similar hair (fine, thin and just above shoulder length) and I love the way your hair looks. Thanks so much!
Thank you! That's really why I started this channel. Seems like everyone with fine hair says they have "a lot" of it. Well, I don't and I figured someone needed represent us fine haired lower density gals!
FitKat Style I feel you! Yes...the struggles of a fine wavy hair. Lol. I don't have a lot either. We already struggle with holding our waves, lack of volume, and the halo frizz! Thank you for creating your channel.
Is this the same technique you do on 3rd day hair? I’m trying to stretch out my wash days, as I wash every other day now. Since I’ve been following your routine closely and Medusa clipping like you do, my second day hair is looking so much better and needing less to refresh it. Thank you so much for your help! Your videos have been a game changer for me!!
First off I just want to say thank u so much for making these videos! I actually have wavy fine short hair (My picture is how my hair use to look) and have just started my CG journey desprately trying to learn to work with my natural hair without straightening it! Can u please do a video on how u style ur hair right after showering? Or what ur usual routine is? Thank u!
Thank you for your video and channel. I have been trying to find someone with similar hair to mine and here you are! Just ordered the Jane Carter spray previously I had been using the not your mothers sea spray and pretty happy. Now I need to focus on getting more moisture on the second day! Look forward to more videos! I have been trying to figure out my shower routine and rinsing when I tried out upside down I felt like I had these flat parts on the back of my head now trying regular rinsing from the top and I'm getting success. Trial and error!
Hope the JC spray works for you!! Thank you for watching!! And so much trial and error on this wavy/curly journey!! I find a bit more moisture and slightly flatter or more sectioned hair on day 1 allows me better moisture to carry me through day 2. But adding substantially more moisture to my hair on multi-days is still a mystery that I have not solved.
My hair is sort of like yours but denser. What I do is pretty simple. I have a spray bottle and I put a little conditioner that I use on wash days. I use Aveda Be Curly Intensive Masque and it's pretty moisturizing. I spritz my hair with that and very lightly scrunch. That gets the conditioner activated. Then I add a very small amount of LA Looks Sports Gel and water it down then very lightly scrunch it in. That's it.
Yea it works for the most part. Since my hair gets dehydrated easily because I work outside in the elements and my hair gets beat up, most times I can't go more than 2 days without a wash day. But for 2nd day hair it works. 3rd day hair I need moisture and usually I'll have to wash, condition style again. I'm a guy and my hair is shoulder length as long as yours LOL and probably could prevent my hair from getting beaten up if I wore a hat or something but I hate wearing something on my head.
My hair is wavy in the back and sides but the front is straight. I took chemo for Lupus for quite some time and it changed my hair texture when it finally grew back. My waves are not as tight as yours but I like them. Learning to style and take care of it, that's another story !
Hello, another great video, thank you! I am 3 weeks into the curly girl method and am struggling. I am a fine wavy shoulder length blonde. My struggle is straightness and halo frizz at the crown. No tangles ever, no frizzy ends no stiffness/breakage. I have been using deva curl low poo and one conditioner delight along with b'leavin texture curl plumper and ultra light defining gel. I put the styling products on in the shower and do a short plop with a tshirt. This has helped a bit with the frizz, but my crown section is even straighter and roots are flat. I get 'see through hair' also which you mentioned in one of your videos. I have done so much research that my head is spinning. I recently added a leave in conditioner that doesn't seem to change anything. Today I tried a cream gel styler and I got virtually no curl definition and hair that is too soft to do anything with. I'm sure within the hour my friend friz will arrive. Is there any chance my hair could be overconditioned? Seems unlikely I guess but I don't know what to try next. I've been wavy my whole life but have never been able to address these issues and have used a flat iron for several years. I've promised myself that I will not give up this time! Any advice?
One of my best decisions when I started CG was to get a hair analysis from Goosefootprints on Etsy. It was super thorough. I still go back and re-read it b/c there is so much info and as I continue to learn more, different things pop out to me. You may be overconditioned, especially if you are low porosity. The Deva products have glycerin in them which attracts water to itself. So it can pull moisture from the humid air to your hair. Many people following CG reduce the humectants (glycerin, propylene glycol, panthenol, etc) in their Summer regimen. At least cut glycerin and have other humectants lower on the list. The B'Leavin is a good clumper but loaded w/ glycerin and the Light Definging gel isn't enough hold and has castor oil too high up for your fine hair if you don't need much moisture. I would try only a tiny bit of of either the LDG or the B'Leavin as your enhancer and then try Giovanni Strong Hold Gel or Aussie Instant Freeze gel if you want a medium hold. Flax Seed gel is cheap and you can make it at home. It's a wonderful enhancer. The BLeavin may work better in cooler weather (although super dry can also be an issue w/ glycerin). If the LDG doesn't work as an enhancer or to mix w/ Giovanni (b/c it's a strong hold!) then it probably doesn't have a place in your regimen. Let me know how it goes.
I don't have a set regimen yet. I live in the south and have super picky hair! I have to be low/no humectants, low/no aloe vera, and all of a sudden since starting henna my hair doesn't want as much protein! When I figure it out... I will let you know. Each wash is an experiment right now. 😂
Griffin Leach I have been told that frizz can be caused by too much product. A clarifying shampoo will remove it, but then condition like crazy. I tried it and it worked. I am not a fan of hairspray or any stiff additive, however, I use a lot of oil. I have a lot of dry, fine hair that needs shampooing every 4-5 days and I clarify every couple of weeks or after swimming in the community pool. I then condition for about 10-15 minutes before rinsing. It does seem to help. Use this as an example and change as needed according to your schedule and product use.
Hi! Love the idea of "medusa clipping".I have very similar hair to yours, only quite a bit longer. Any tips for fighting the separation in the back with fine/thin hair ? I've struggled with that my whole life. I don't think I've ever been able to fix the back/side parts I get after sleeping. 2nd day hair is always a bun .
Your night time up do is cute! My hair is extremely fine too but it's long. I am supposed to get a Deva Cut in a few weeks for the 1st time and I am terrified! But my top layer of hair is so much straighter than the rest of my hair so I am hoping they can work that out with the cut without taking off the length. Thanks for the video! Hope to see more soon!
Heavenly Homemaker that's very common. A good cut will help. My top layer is also straighter. Try and rinse upside down so the top hair doesn't get the conditioner washed away as much. If that doesn't work be sure to apply leave in there. The straight parts could be more damaged and need moisture.
I clipped my hair up and returned to my satin pillow case last night. With a little help my hair looked fabulous today. In fact I spritzed it and clipped it up again before i went out tonight. A little shimmy shake and Hair looked good again. Liking this.
Thanks for another really helpful video! We seem to have similar hair (mine's about the same density, bit shorter, and 2a-ish) so I'm thrilled to have found you :) When adding more products on Day 2, Day 3 etc I'm wondering how you prevent your hair from looking too dull and producty. I'm sure using the least amount helps but do you avoid certain ingredients? I'm loving a LI with shea but concerned it's going to be causing me problems as the days go on. Have you made any discoveries in that area? Love your beautiful hair!
Beautiful hair. You made this all look so easy. After so many years...(many, many, many years) of blow drying my hair smooth, I am opting for curls...at my age...LOL... However, I found a curly/wavy girl closer (but still not as old) to my age that I can actually relate to. I will be checking out a few of your older videos. Right now, I am looking for products. I have tried DevaCurl by recommendation of the hairstylist at Ulta. And then Ouidad...which I seem to like by recommendation of youtube. Do you have a video of your favorite products? Have a good day, :) Carol
HI, thanks! Yes, older curlies, we are a bit less common on TH-cam. This did come together easy. Didn't know what I'd get but was lucky on this one. No favorites video yet. Working out a Summer regimen currently. And that is always trickier than Winter for me. I have to avoid glycerin in summer to help control frizz in case that helps.
Aww thank you!! When I filmed this, my last haircut, a Deva Cut, was over a year before! But, I cut it myself often. I do a mixture of individual curl trimming and traditional layering. I might do a regular cut next time to see what I think.
Could you possibly do more refresh videos. I haven't had one good refresh day 😥 My first day hair doesn't last enough for good 2nd day hair. I end up with hair that is frizzy and products feeling.
If hair isn't lasting through day 1 start with more hold product on day one! If it doesn't last the first day you are at a big disadvantage! My best 3-4day hair usually is too product-y on day 1. But just the right amount can at least get you to day 2 with little to no refresh. Adding an updated refresh video to the list.
Thank you for these videos!! I believe the VO5 oil has a new formulation, do you have any idea if the new is as good as the old? Or, if John Frieda Frizz Ease Nourishing Elixir Oil would work as well?
We have very similar hair! My hair is medium to high porosity mostly and lower porosity near the roots I think. Having thin hair is a struggle...can’t stand to see my scalp!🤨 We even have the same length. I just subscribed to your channel and I am probably going to binge watch your videos today. LOL ➰💁🏻♀️➿
I love your videos! Thanks for all the great info and experience you are sharing! You mention noticing that your hair is dry in several of your videos...how do you know this? What are the signs of dry hair? Sorry if this is obvious...I'm a CG newbie! :)
Awesome! Thanks for watching! My ends look dry - not light reflective like my roots which look a bit more shiny. My hair is also colored so the ends are drier from the chemical process. I have also had a hair analysis done by Goosefootprints .com and my ends are porous and not in super great shape b/c of that. Which confirmed what I suspected about my ends. Day 1 hair feels more normal but by wash day my hair feels drier less soft/ supple.
As I was watching this, I kept saying to myself, 'Now, mine would do this or this... Lol and as soon as I said it..you mentioned it. Especially the stringiness of second day hair if I try to wet and redo...thanks for your videos and I am definitely going to look for the VO5 oil spray. Where did you get? Target, Walmart, drugstore?
awhiles9161 that's funny. Glad the video connected some dots for you. I got it at Publix grocery store. I've seen it at one drugstore. Maybe check online to see which store that might be. I don't use the oil without mixing as it would be too much for me.
IF it looks good after it's washed and styled then protecting it overnight with a satin pillowcase and clipping it up at night can help. When you take it down, you have to let it settle for 10+ minutes. Then depending on how bad it looks it may require nothing, a bit of cream smoothed on or full wet refresh.
Your hair is beautiful and in such good condition.I just found your channel.I will go to CVS today and get the clips and the Air Spray.Do you go to a stylist that specializes in cutting curly hair? Thanks,Linda
FitKat Style I think it's because my hair is still super thin and it's short and then the clips mood and end up sleeping on them or going to gave me a headache and they hurt and they broke up I think I just need to kind of keep trying it out
Try just the amount of hair that allows you to get it up high enough and then sleep on a satin pillow case for the rest. Refresh the bottom in the AM. Also the clips with rubber grip inside by Scunci are my fave for staying in place. You might try just bobby pins too. Good luck, Tawnya!

If my hair looked like that in the morning by just ruffling it a bit, I'd love my hair.
Haha, I was excited about the element of surprise but almost disappointed it was such a good hair day!! It gives a false representation of what the "unveiling" can be like. I did love my day 2 hair here....but it's not always so good!

Aw thanks!! They're on my list!!

My pleasure! Just trying to represent our wavy/curly type too!
I love it right when you take it out of clips. High volume looks amazing 😉
So glad I found this video. All the advice is so helpful. Hope more videos are to come. ♡ Thankyou.
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful. Life has been fast lately!! But I promise there are more videos to come!
Wow, I can't believe how well (and easily!) that came together. You are a pro!
Thank you! It's a little bit of luck and weather too with wavy hair! Not predictable!
I just discovered your channel and love all your videos! Thanks for making such great videos for us fine wavies with shorter hair!
We need to represented too! Right? LOL
So happy to find you! I have the same type fine wavy hair Lovett on wash day second and third day hair is a no no but I'm going to try your fluff! Thank you for sharing I'm going to play a little catch up and watch all your videos 😊
So happy I found your channel my hair is exactly like your abs i have been struggling with sleep hair thanks for the tips
Awesome! Glad I could help!!
Love your videos. I find them very informative. My hair is wavy and I've just started to go wavy since Dec. It's been more work than I imagined :0 so thanks for your help!
You're so welcome and thank you! Yes, embracing the waves/curls can at times be more work! Enjoy the journey!
I going to try some of your ideas. Thank you!!
You're welcome. Let me know how they go for you.
Hey FitKat -- can you do a full first day routine video and show us how you do the techniques, please? I have very similar hair (fine, thin and just above shoulder length) and I love the way your hair looks. Thanks so much!
Thank you for your tips. Looking forward to your thoughts and future videos!
Btw, I feel like I look bald or thinning at my crown because my hair is so fine and thin! Lol. Just nice to hear someone say how I feel.
Thank you! That's really why I started this channel. Seems like everyone with fine hair says they have "a lot" of it. Well, I don't and I figured someone needed represent us fine haired lower density gals!

You're welcome! Thanks for watching! ;)
It's lovely!!!! You have gorgeous hair.
Thank you!
We have pretty much the exact same hair type and curl pattern 💜 yay
I'm so excited about this new channel!!
Awesome! Me too, and thanks so much!
Pantene Airspray is CG approved. But I prefer a spritz instead of aerosole, so I use Suave Kids Hairspray which is also CG approved. ;)
Is there a list of CG approved products?
First off I just want to say thank u so much for making these videos! There are days that I just run my fingers through my hair and wear it more wavy. We don't have to have perfect curls everyday, thank goodness.
My hair is wavy in the back and sides but the front is straight. I took chemo for Lupus for quite some time and it changed my hair texture when it finally grew back. My waves are not as tight as yours but I like them. Learning to style and take care of it, that's another story !
Wavy hair has a big learning curve! Glad you are embracing what you have! :D
This was so helpful. My hair is just like yours, fine curls prone to frizz. Looks just like yours after sleeping 😀
Hello, another great video, thank you! I am 3 weeks into the curly girl method and am struggling. I am a fine wavy shoulder length blonde. My struggle is straightness and halo frizz at the crown. Your night time up do is cute! My hair is extremely fine too but it's long. I am supposed to get a Deva Cut in a few weeks for the 1st time and I am terrified! Heavenly Homemaker that's very common. A good cut will help. My top layer is also straighter. Try and rinse upside down so the top hair doesn't get the conditioner washed away as much. If that doesn't work be sure to apply leave in there. The straight parts could be more damaged and need moisture.
I will try that! Thank you for the tips!
Loving your videos. Im a Deva girl with wavy hair. Going out today to get clips so I can Medusa clip at night. Thank you
I clipped my hair up and returned to my satin pillow case last night. With a little help my hair looked fabulous today. In fact I spritzed it and clipped it up again before i went out tonight. A little shimmy shake and Hair looked good again. Liking this.
I just found your channel. I sure hope you plan to make more videos!!
Thank you! Yes I am! Got a list...life's been a tiny bit hectic. I look forward to getting back to filming!! Promise!

Assuming that's you in the picture, you look smashing! Those are some lovely curls you got there.
Good tips!

Your hair is gorgeous! I would love to know more about your haircut. #hairgoals
Aww thank you!! When I filmed this, my last haircut, a Deva Cut, was over a year before! But, I cut it myself often. I do a mixture of individual curl trimming and traditional layering. I might do a regular cut next time to see what I think.
Gorgeous!!
Spray with CG hairspray and hit with diffuser . I promise it will hold all that volume all day. Then no touching .
I wear a loose french braid to bed, refreshing is alot easier then meduse clipping!
Awesome! Great idea!
Love your hair! It’s the same kind of texture as mine. How long have you been doing cg?
Thank you!! I have been CG for about 5 years now I think.
LOL ➰💁🏻♀️➿
Well, Hi! Hopefully you find a few tips. And thank you!!!
Finally someone that uses an oil to refresh instead of water. Thank you. Do you have low porosity hair?
You're welcome ;) No, it's high porosity on the ends!
Thanks for the explanation! :)
Would love to see a wash day routine for you and some holy grail products from you!
Thank you so much. Could you please put the exact names of the products? I can;t find them in the UK
Hi, they are listed in the commentary below the video just not on the screen in the video. Hope that helps.
@@fitkatstyle4388 read all the comments and just as an after thought clicked on your top one! Thank you. Found it now.
Can you recommend another oil to try as VO5 Shine Glow and Go oil is no longer available.
Sure! I also like Righteous Roots Oil, it's a blend too. Light and versatile. You can get it on their website and on Naturally Curly dot com
wish you did some more videos at least a routine one, my hair is just like yours fine thin etc
Hi just wanted to say that I have fine wavy little curls what can I do so it will look like that in the morning helpppppppl
Yes, I get Deva Cuts. Thank you too! Look for the Scunci clips w/ grip inside as they work best especially with slick or finer hair!
How do I find a Deva Salon? In upstate N.Y. it's pretty rural still.
I tried the medusa clip and sadly dont work for me
I'm so sorry to hear that! How was it not successful? Maybe I can help?
FitKat Style I think it's because my hair is still super thin and it's short and then the clips mood and end up sleeping on them or going to gave me a headache and they hurt and they broke up I think I just need to kind of keep trying it out
Try just the amount of hair that allows you to get it up high enough and then sleep on a satin pillow case for the rest. Refresh the bottom in the AM. Also the clips with rubber grip inside by Scunci are my fave for staying in place. You might try just bobby pins too. Good luck, Tawnya!
