    My mechanic replaced my spider on a 95 blazer. At that time I had no idea what a spider was. It fixed the problem for 4 months then the engine started missing and chugging bad upon acceleration and idle. After researching on TH-cam I found that he should have replaced the nut kit as well. I decided to do that myself and it was a success thanks to all you guys putting up how to videos I saved hundreds of dollars thanks again.

      I'm happy it can help! I did buy a new injector a few years ago. it was the OE brand not an aftermarket. Expensive but it works

    Very helpful...doing the same thing in Louisiana in July. Took one day to fashion a tool to get that pesky supply/return retainer bolt out: 6" of' 1/2" pipe for leverage, 1/4" wrench + T30 star driver - the last two held together with tape to keep everything from falling into the dark abyss...

      Got the new kit. Pushing the old supply/return fuel lines towards the firewall. I assume I can push the flared lines from the tank back and away without screwing up anything?

    • @RobHoffmann20
      @RobHoffmann20  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Baker from memory the lines into the back of the manifold had some give. I may have removed a strap? I was careful not to move them excessively

      Got it! Most the parts are in. I'll pressure up with open plenum tomorrow and pressure gauge (car has been sitting since November). This video is invaluable!! Thanks again. Cheers!

    Great video. I had mine replaced by a mechanic 6 months ago now its doing it again. I am replacing the fuel pressure regulator tomorrow not the entire thing. The screws on it are star with a raised nipple so I have to now buy special tools just to remove it oh well. After seeing this I feel totally confident in doing it. The mechanic did not replace the fuel lines x2 inside. He left the old ones. I didn't see any leaks though.

    i ordered my parts online and all i can remember is online the parts were around half of the price to order it locally. if i had to guess i would say around 350? that was a long while ago i did this work. Since this i have literally re-built the motor and now it runs awesome and has tons more power.

    @drewkang34.Awesome, that's good to hear! Im having issues with mine right now. Really tough to start and runs like crap. There is a few things i want to change/look into. One is the O2 sensor and the other is the cat. I believe the cat is plugging up and needs to be replaced. My guess is that the O2 sensor is probably jacked, since I have driven around 45000kms on it and its the only thing i still haven't changed to try to make it run better.. work is crazy busy so when i have time i will look

    @drewkang34 Check the timing before you pick up an EGR valve, and make sure to have a good look at the back of the intake manifold where that vacume line plugs in. when i changed my CPI the vacume line was almost crispy and leaking so i replaced it with a new length of hose. sometimes a vacume leak can make it run shitty, could also be something as simple as the computer needing to be reset. just disconnect the negative for a little while and clear the memory to start.

  • @RobHoffmann20
    @RobHoffmann20  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well mine were not leaking from what i could tell but i figured that already having opened it up i may as well just change it for the 20 bucks it cost me to do it. as for the security bit your referring to, i have seen places like home depot carry security bit sets, may be a cheap way to get what you need for the job.

  • @drewkang34
    @drewkang34 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @RobHoffmann20 I had to put it in the shop , they said the timing was off. I dont know why because i didn't touch the timing at all. But its running much better now, thanks for your help.

  • @RobHoffmann20
    @RobHoffmann20  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @yz100f when it stalls has the engine had time to warm up? because i know the computer for the first few min makes it run very rich.. and after either warming up or reaching a predetermined time it will begin to run in open loop mode ( retrieving information from various sensors and adjusting fuel-air ratio accordingly) if you have a bad sensor it could be causing the truck to stall out

    @drewkang34 and i have read somewhere that the CPI unit takes 10miles or so before its "broken in" you may just have to take it for a spin on the highway get her nice and hot and that could help break it in and may solve your problem

    With how that system works it doesn't matter which one you put the poppet valve back into. 96 and up have sequential fuel injection, that does matter which one you put the poppet valve back into.

  • @drewkang34
    @drewkang34 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @RobHoffmann20 You might want to check your spider injector. Because thats what mines was doing before I install it. I wish you luck. If i have anymore problems i will be putting a v8 in mines.

  • @RobHoffmann20
    @RobHoffmann20  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    if its leaking in the manifold then it has to be replaced. i know with mine if i took off the air intake and held the throttle open i could smell a lot of gasoline inside(Of course this was when its not running). and when i opened it up it was very clear i had a leak on the passenger side (the cleaner side) the gas will wash away carbon build up. i literally had pools of gas inside of my intake when i replaced my CPI.

    hi. I am working on a 94 S10 Blazer the Tahoe Style with the same motor that you got the 4.3 Vortec and I got strong fuel to the back of the motor but as soon as I can prime it and then it'll start and run until the prime runs out or it'll run until I quit spraying gas in there could something else be wrong cuz I put a new computer new relays new fuel pump new throttle position sensor and the black deal on top that's got the little butterfly flap in it neither one of my wires are hot one of them supposed to be

    • @RobHoffmann20
      @RobHoffmann20  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Gibson I'm not positive how to help you out but in my experience even a new fuel pump may not have enough pressure. Use a fuel pressure gauge and check you are over 60psi. If you are less out will not want to run. My truck was very specific with that. I once replaced the pump and the new pump was a cheaper one which couldn't make the required pressure so the truck wouldn't run

    • @x-man5056
      @x-man5056 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check fuel pressure regulator. it's inside the plenum though so you might as well change the injectors while there because a good bit of work to get to it and may be leaking injectors also. fuel pressure reg comes with new injector kit. if you see one side clean and other dirty like this vid, dead giveaway something leaking in there. get the newer port injectors though, not poppet style.

  • @RobHoffmann20
    @RobHoffmann20  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    its not mandatory but if they begin to leak you will have to remove the intake yet again to repair it.

  • @christ7900

    Hey thanks for video..my blazer just started blinking c.e.l on highway which i know is from a misfire from previous 4.3. It ran fine after but next day when i started it to pull into garage i felt the misfire with slightly rough idle. Ive read forums and some people say this is the issue and others say various reasons. Do you believe this would have effect? Was your truck doing any similar?

    • @RobHoffmann20
      @RobHoffmann20  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest replacing plugs, wires, cap and rotor, Those are cheap and easy in comparison the the injector.Mine was not misfiring rather suffering from very poor fuel mileage and longer and longer crank times. Also very strong fuel smell from the intake when the throttle blade is opened with the engine off.

    On the part where you connected the fuel lines to the fuel injector, you had o-rings on the tips of the fuel lines. I could not get the fuel lines in with the o-rings on, but fitted perfect without them, clip and all. Why can't I get the fuel lines to fit w/the o-rings? Yes, they are lubed. Also do the poppet tubes have a "firing order" sorta speak?

    it's wierd. When I hold the valve down and have someone turn the key over but not start I get great pressure If I have them turn the keep wait till the wine stops then hit the valve it spits a small stream of fuel out then the pressure bleeds ofF i replaces the strainer in the tank and fuel filter and the pump still wines strong. im lost. Guy looked at my truck yesterday and told me it was the CPI>

I have actually replaced it a 2nd time since. I have a brand name unit installed from my local parts store, it came with a 3yr warranty and yes a few bucks more but worth it in my opinion. If your looking for the cheapest price it may result in a short lifespan. My local parts store is a Carquest type store. they ordered it in and it arrived quickly. best of luck with your repair.
      Thanks again for checking it out.
      Cheers

    Hey man hope you see this. I got a 92 s10 with the same motor has a super rough idle smoke out of the tailpipe on start up once ina while smells like fuel hard when running . Have to pump the gas to start . Will stall occasionally to . Distributer has been done coils spark plugs ect time to do the injectors I'm guessing????

    • @RobHoffmann20
      @RobHoffmann20  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if you remove the intake boot and with the engine off manually open the throttle body to simulate W.O.T and sniff the intake. If there is an overwhelming fuel smell that may be the issue(leaking spider injector) otherwise test your fuel pressure at the pressure port, very healthy should be around 65PSI while at idle. Anything less may cause a no run situation. Also the fuel filter may be clogged and require replacement. Those other mentions are cheaper than the actual injector and hose kit.

    Hey, where did you get your kit from?
    I just replaced the cat and muffler on my 94, but it also has a nasty fuel leak by the CPI unit, which in hindsight I should have changed first.
    Anyways, just wanting to know your experience with whoever you dealt with.

      @RobHoffmann20  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't got any more video from this. I filmed this several years ago. To remove the injector if i remember correctly you lift up. The injector nozzles just have the tabs gently depressed and pulled up.
      Goodluck!

    I like your intake manifold style. My 03 S-10, ZR2 has the plastic plenum style. I wonder the performance/mpg difference. I average 17MPG combined but could drive nicer. I had a 97 GMC Jimmy and it had the plastic plenum also same with my 96 S-10 SS. All were X motors. I've only ever seen the aluminum, long runner style like yours on a Bravada once. I wonder what the story is.
    Also, why did you replace poppet style injector with poppet style when the port injector upgrade version is widely available in 2011?

    What symptoms were you having to know the spider injection was bad

    • @RobHoffmann20
      @RobHoffmann20  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excessive cranking to get it started. poor fuel economy, and with the engine off remove the intake pipe to the manifold and manually open the throttle blade, it had a very strong fuel smell.
      you can also use a fuel pressure gauge on the test port and watch the pressure drop when you turn the engine off.
      hope this helps
      Cheers!

    Thanks for sharing. Good pointers. --- For a 2000 GMC V6, 4.3 L, does anyone know the typical reliable life of the fuel pressure regulator; and the typical reliable life of the fuel injector / poppits ? Would it be wise to replace the fuel injector / poppits assembly after 200k miles?

    • @Bige4u
      @Bige4u 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you get a brandnew name brand unit, AC DELCO/DELPHI/SMP/etc, the quality and reliability should go hand in hand for at least 100k miles like GM intended and as for replacing it after 200k miles, i would, even if it isnt causing any trouble with hard starts, erratic idle or lack of power. I currently own a 2005 GMC sierra 1500 with the 4.3L vortec with just over 190k miles on it, and i plan on changing the entire MPI unit out soon. It still starts fine, idles steady, no hesitation, just lack of power when it downshifts and at higher RPM as if the typical power robbing a/c was on, but isnt, even though it has a brand new delphi fuel pump, ac delco spark plugs, stock replacement wires, ac delco distributor cap and ac delco rotor. The lack of power could come from the injectors being diry or just plain old and worn out, one try of lucas gas treatment/fuel injector cleaner helped restore some power, but that was short lived. Just be sure to get all brand new gaskets(fel-pro) for everything thats required for the change over, a vacuum leak is the last thing you would want after you have buttoned everything back up together.

      @@Bige4u Thanks, Obtained a new Multiport Fuel Injector Assembly and new gaskets. But one of the new gasket that goes around the Fuel Meter Body is thinner than the old gasket. Seems strange that the new gasket may be less effective in sealing than the old one since it is thinner.

    I have a 91 s10 taho blazer. I don't have a vortec intake. Do you have a video about how you switched it out four s vortec intake. Our am i just way off base since I'm thinking 93 have the throttle body injector also.

      Brian Parker There was an engine option to have the CPI type of fuel injection, it included higher pressure fuel pump, different intake manifold, different injectors and likely other items. My truck came with that option from the factory. Hope that helps.
